Oganosuke's techniques are insane even for a master level fight.
I think he alone could have wiped half Ryouzanpaku. And in this episode he looks like the Elder evil twin.

nobody switching sides yet … but the turnaround has started, at least as far as the disciples go (aw, Hongo interfered so Kenichi/Kajima could have a fair duel). I guess next week we see what the Masters do to change their situation.
btw, after Hongo knocked Schtilvay out the window what was he doing looking at in his hand? I couldn't tell

That buggered me too, I thougth Hongo could be injured (since the scans are bad and blood on a dark glove would be hard to see)
But I think Hongo might be wondering himself why he didnt kill the creepy scythe guy.
So, Chikage and the rest are objecting to ganging up on Shinpaku? makes me wonder if the Yomi masters will think the same way. I know they want to win/rule the world/whatever, but they're also martial artists, and as we've seen, no TRUE martial artist desires anything other than a fair fight.
it would be strategically dumb, but I could see everyone just agreeing to pair off into 1v1 fights for the sake of Martial Arts Honor or whatever.
Is this translation just off, or is this the dumbest chapter I've yet to see. We're about to see our antagonists shoot themselves in the foot, and it's because off this freaking little girl realizing…something? Is this the Elder's doing? It's not completely clear. And no Chikage, your master seems to enjoy attacking people while their back is turned, what are you even talking about. The weapon-users are getting berated for doing only what the rest of Yami/Yomi have been doing for the past few chapters.
Also, I'll be pissed if the weapon-users are get taken down in this arc. True they have no characters, and I don't know who most of them are. I can't even remember them, whenever they appear if feels like a new characters was just made up on the spot. They've made these fights worse by their presence, but I could have forgiven that if maybe, they'd appear in later arcs. I kind of assumed that Ryouzanpaku would escape, leaving themselves at a disadvantage for the rest of the series. But if this happens, this entire thing becomes one massive waste of time.
the disciple-class weapon users are indeed lame.
But I think the scythe guy, arrow chick, armored knight, and especially the kodachi user made impressions on me, from the masters. oh, also the esoteric poetry swordsman. I just wish more of them had been set up beforehand, like the Kodachi user was. like, what happened to the Katar user that Ethan fought on a mission one time? he was cool.
Obviously there's some kind of discrepancy between the masters and their disciples because the masters don't look like they're about to turn on each other. Oh wait, there has been some tension which already turned violent this chapter betwen Hongo and scythe guy. It has been hinted at multiple times that the weapon division and non-weapon division had a pretty bad rivalry going on. I don't think the rivalry alone is enough for the masters to jeopardize the whole Setting Sun plan but it could conceivably play to their downfall.

Caught up again with this, judging by the raws I'm pretty sure that it's Kanou Shou's earring the one with the birdcage shape.
Seeing the latest chapter and Chikage asking her master provocatively I have a feeling we might even see some of the unarmed masters temporarily switching sides.
Pretty sure Hongou is already in that camp with him stopping scythe guy. I think it might be possible for Mikumo, depends on how much she values Chikage. If she means anything to her she might unwillingly go along with it for her sake.
On the other hand she set up that whole Jenazard thing so he couldn't disturb the eternal sunset plan.
I can easily see Kensei's brother and Agaard making the switch, them being so ambiguous and their reason being part of yami being rather loose.
I can easily see Ma's brother and Agaard making the switch, them being so ambiguous and their reason being part of yami being rather loose.
It was weird to see Agaard at Yami after the battle with Apachai in the first place.
It was weird to see Agaard at Yami after the battle with Apachai in the first place.
Well I don't think that's necessarily true. Cause the individual motivations of each of the yami masters are kind of vague.
We know yami exists to do this whole world reform thing where martial arts becomes the focus point and that yami was just a solution for all those masters to avoid fighting each other supposedly to accomplish that reform thing.
But talking about individual masters it's kind of hard to tell what drives them to be part of yami.
Jenazard was kind of set up by Mikumo because his reasons for being part of yami were too whimsical and might have disturbed the plan.
God knows why Sougetsu is in that group, might be as simple as it being a comfort thing and yami providing him with resources(money/alcohol).
Hongou seems to have slowly developed doubts since Shou's death.
So yeah Agaard might have another reason to stick with yami despite not being invested in that whole eternal dusk thing.
I wonder how close this manga is to being done. Not that I want it to end soon but there doesn't seem much left to cover.
I wonder how close this manga is to being done. Not that I want it to end soon but there doesn't seem much left to cover.
How so? For one nothing needs to get resolved this arc. This could just be an event to change the status quo of that world and after that it could just be endless chapters of the good guys trying to fix it slowly.
And then there's the fact that Kenichi's endgame is pretty vague as hell. His goal is to become strong enough to protect everything he wants to.
According to the Elder that's already strongest in history.
Also this manga doesn't really do an insane amount of built up, certain arcs just pop up. It's just more and more challenges out of nowhere.
This isn't like One Piece where we actually kind of know what needs to get done until we can get to the end. And judging by the pacing changes of One Piece that manga actually is working towards an end.
I don't get that same sense out of Kenichi, this manga still takes it time when it wants to, to the point where one could say too much.
So in theory this can go on as long as the author wants to, he can always throw in more until he's sick of it and just does a end the manga time skip.
I think the closest you might come to measure how close this is to the end is trying to cross off all possible weapons and martial arts forms that can still be featured. Which might be meaningless given that this manga already had x forms of different types of kung fu/karate/etc.
PS: I'm not making any judgements here on whether that's a positive or negative.
Besides Keneichi (and his pals) getting stronger, the yami and yomi members being defeated, and Miu's past being dug into more I don't see much else the manga can run on. Sure, there are the random quests but the end game in those missions usually ends in some fight with some member of yomi or yami so that angle is being covered slowly but surely. Not to mention those fights also help Keneichi closer to his goal of being strong enough to protect those he cares about so those random side quests do a lot to push the manga forward.
True, the author can make as many random side quests he wants and replace members like candy in a vending machine but I don't think the manga is ending soon or anything. With this arc though I feel like its reached an important milestone in laying out the important framework for it to all come together though. With all the members of the weapons and non-weapons division showing up and their ultimate plan being set in motion and most likely failing? Another person connected to Miu's father showing up. I see this arc as more than just another battle scene but rather a big leap in the story, honestly.
This whole setting sun thing is supposed to be their ultimate goal afterall.

But that's what I was talking about. Kenichi isn't a manga that I feel is really bound by those story lines. I have a hard time seeing people getting into this series because of any of those, because to be honest none of them have been really executed particular well so there isn't much intrigue to be had.
I mean normally the idea of super humans wanting to reform the world's society to be more centered around the martial arts would be quite interesting.
If the whole eternal sunset thing was done well we'd all be dying to know what the next step in the plan is, similar to how you'd be interested in each step of a heist setting. I mean it's a fucking plan to reform the world. One would assume something like that would take a lot of elaborate steps which would open up countless conflicts for the good guys trying to stop each of them. Instead it's just there whenever the author needs to, to have a semblance of plot.
With that I'm pretty sure most got into the series because of Kenichi and the masters.
Kenichi is easy. People like underdog stories and people love to see heroes grow. And that's kind of something this series did pretty well in my opinion, pacing Kenichi's growth over such a long period of time and there's still a lot for him to learn.
And then we have the masters with their over the top abilities and eccentric personalities. In my opinion the best humor comes from their world view being so wildly different compared to the common person. They also kind of serve as examples by which we can measure Kenichi's growth. And of course when masters fight. That's generally entertaining.
There are of course other things like the series doing an ok job of introducing different fighting style/martial arts and fights in general. I feel safe saying that "plot" probably ranks pretty low as a source for enjoyment for this series.
So yeah I don't believe any of those mysteries(Saiga, Yami's plan, whatever else) to be really important for most readers. This isn't really like One Piece where everyone is kind of wondering what the One Piece will turn out to be and once that mystery has been solved there won't be much left.
Pretty sure most are just in for the ride at this point, and as long as the manga can keep Kenichi's growth fun and keep introducing interesting masters to weave conflicts around this series will go on. Since both of those aren't really tied to any of the story lines.
And because of that I find it difficult to guess how far off an ending really is. The organic ending would be us seeing Kenichi turning into a master from beginning to end but that seems so far off it doesn't seem realistic.
Well yeah, I'm not going to lie to you. I am more interested in the action and Keneichi's growth rather than the plotlines and I guess Keneichi's growth is the main plot. Looking from the authors perspective the more Keneichi grows the more the story grows and yes, as long as he can keep that growth interesting the story can go on indefinitely. I see your point. Of course there will be an end one day but it won't necessarily focus on some major storyline but rather Keneichi's final growth as a character.
New chapter out, well I guess that settles Mikumo's position on things.
Sougetsu making the switch went as I guessed, fully expect Agaard to make the switch in the next few chapters too.
I think another master that could be a wild card is Oogata. I absolutely don't think he'll help but he may do something furthering his on goals that might not overlap with Yami's.
Indian master guy is a bit weird. I don't think he'll switch but we've seen so little of him and he has been portrayed as Chikage's inner good voice so I don't know what real impression we should have of him. I'd still put him under bad.
Question is if Agaard and Sougetsu will be enough for reinforcements. The Elder is supposed to arrive soon, too.
I think with that whole break in chapter into "Big Lock" chances are that Alex and Diego will come too helping Ryozanpaku as a chance to get "even" making them free of that honor thing that kept them in prison.
I really liked how that whole Kagerou "redemption" went over the whole series, it was always more on the funny side with him doing it for selfish reasons at first, but I kind of liked the whole angle of him changing perspective because he's so connected to his weapons and that the hoe influenced him. And him acknowledging his own irredeemability was a nice touch that could have been really awful for other characters from different series given how clichéd it is. But it worked for me with him.
Taking the scene with the birds in a bubble as "oh he has feelings now" feels pretty clumsy but personally I can accept his turning happening mostly off screen. To me the vital turning moment is when he used his hoe for the first time showing us his new perspective. So to me that whole flashback is probably just one of many things he finally saw with that new perspective.
also keep in mind that when Shigure first met him, she had just nursed a baby bird back to health, and set it free.
and he cut it in half when it flew over his head.
So his empathy towards these birds is a little bit more than just cliche, I think. it's a recurring motif for him.
also, hard to tell, but did he just get ripped limb from limb? these scans are so messy…

As you can see above I was referring to his line about him being irredeemable.
That line happens a lot with killers turned good story arcs and it can be incredibly corny thus undermining the original intention.
I thought it was a nice touch with Kagerou, it didn't feel like it was said out of self pity or for being and I hate to put it this way "emo". It wasn't overplayed it just felt like a simple acknowledgement of his life.
I wasn't directing that "cliched" at how his redemption overall was portrayed.
Oh well there goes any remaining tension this arc might had… well a least we get some character development and forced fan service.

oh, I know. I was just also pointing out that the bird has slightly more meaning to him, because it's been so long I thought most people would have forgotten. Hell, I would have too, if I hadn't re-read the series last weekend. I just thought it was a nice touch is all. Really liked his whole character, and his arc. I kind of hope he's actually dead like Tsutomu, instead of secretly alive like Apachai. it's the Big Final Battle with All the Masters, so I'd expect there to be some casualties.
^Oh, you bet I forgot about it.
Good chapter, I had to do a little double take when that panel came up. I was expecting the sacrifice but I wasn't expecting it to come so immediately. I wonder when Hongo is going to come back into the picture.
New chapter out I think that was everyone that could make the switch. Still a bit surprised about indian guy despite acknowledging the possibility. I expect a cut to Hongou next chapter because trolling.
Really nice episode.
But I hope this is only a temporal truce for the nine fists who turned on Koshinada. I still want to see another fight between the Sougetsu brothers.
Would this mark the final stage of the manga or there would be still more in the future?
Well… Considering this is supposed to be a Global-scale threat, I'd say this would be our last arc
Latest chapter is out.

Pretty good, really just lots of fighting. I know this manga is purposefully ridiculous but lol at martial arts helped me overcome my terminal illness~
Hongou is fucking suicidal.
Hongou is feeling himself right now. He took out the Demon Fist a month or so ago, and he just thrashed the Scythe dude. But yeah, he really ought to be in over his head this time. Death flags left and right.
Latest chapter and things are heating up. http://www.tenmanga.com/chapter/HistorysStrongestDiscipleKenichi571/388780/
Hongou is not alone and Keneichi is holding his own. For now I hope the author concentrates on these 2 fights before heading on to what's happening outside. The switching back and forth is cutting into the pace and drama of the fights.
White knight to the rescue!
Sigh… This manga would be much better if Kenichi were not so dull and predictable.
Really, those two nameless girls lasted just long enough for this? That's depressing, Miu doesn't really deserve better, but she always gets the worst deal every arc. She also comes off as an idiot, is she punching the air at one point?
Shigure and…Haruo's his name now?...were the best parts of the chapter. While I expected more from her after being gone for so many chapters (I expected more explosions), she did just screw over the big bad's entire plan. I would be happier if her return wasn't followed by a scene implying she was about to get her ass kicked by Miu's dad, but at least she successfully dodged him.
This chapter was harsh on Shiba dai sensei :getlost:. I mean i knew he was weak cuz of his injuries but the power difference now is pitiful, he could barely scratch saiga
Well it's THE other Furuinji, aka HSDK's super saiyans.
I wondert where Hongou went.
I wonder how Kenichi, Miu and Miu's ass will get out of this one!
Well it's THE other Furuinji, aka HSDK's super saiyans.
Makes you wonder why the genetic obssessed relatives of Miu's mom didn't approve of their union.
Man, that's like the third time Kenichi basically gets knocked down, only to get up again and blurt out the usual "I am gonna protect Miu!" sentence. I had hoped for a more "martial arts based" fight against Saiga's disciple (keep forgetting his actual name), instead of this willpower spectacle. Whatever, can't wait to see how he's gonna end the fight, which hopefully will happen soon-ish.
Mr. Furinji is god like character and Kenishi is, well being Kenishim but at least we know Kenishi is going to surpass Miu pretty soon

Its typical classic sexist male way of thinking. ''Women should stay in f*ckin kitchen and make sandwitches and babys''. Quite a lot of authors make their male heroes overprotective towards womens, I guess they think that is awesome and chivalry way to handle women but I think its rather insulting towards women, luckily Miu is not that complex character and her lifelong dream is actually become a bride and good and obedient housewife.
So Kenichi wants to be overprotective and dominant male who protects his 'helpless' wife and Miu wants to be good and loving wife who is protected by strong husband… I guess they deserve each other.
I like Kenichis struggle for growth and to see how he progresses becoming stronger is one of main attractions of this series but hes reasons for doing so is pretty dissapointing. I hope that Miu would have more character on herself, a real goal on her life than just being a trophy wife for some strong guy.
HSDK was always a simple manga. Come for the fights and over the top characters. Stay for the fights and over the top characters.
And when I say "over the top" I mean that in every exaggerated way.

What a twist….......
Well i didn't see it coming but i Wonder if it was necessary
Eww that was a really shitty asspull.
I'm pretty disappointed by this, there was like no hint that he's not the killer.
I wonder what kind of explanation we'll get, because from the looks of it every possible explanation won't change the fact that this is nothing but an asspull.
How can we justify Saiga's bipolarity? We'll make an evil ninja clone that would impersonate him and blame him with all of Saiga's bad actions.
Genius!
! Bullshit
Quite a weird and unnecessary twist indeed. Still like the chapter though. Now I really wonder what Saiga's back story is all about. Thought he was the evil Furuinji.
Who is the other guy anyway lol.
Damn I really liked idea of Miu's dad and Elders son would be actually bad guy, it brought some needed drama and sense of threat to story… but this asspull reversing one of major story points of entire series is very big letdown.
And the fandom cried "jinkies!"
Well the author certainly needs his glasses because he can't see anything without his glasses, and he clearly how retarded this was.
What are you guys talking about this is awesome!
In a hilarious way.
Ok, Shigure put some fucking pants on.
Second…the dad was good the whole time? Uh...ok? That's sorta weird, but whatever.
What the fuck happened in this chapter? lol
