Not Being a Yaoi fan myself. I'm reading this thread to put it ito perspective you me. E1n, love your speech. But now I have ot raise a point that has been bothering me.

In case you didn't know, he's a fighter, in his villiage, having same-gender twins is bad luck. And there was him and his brother. So they raised him as a girl, and I still find it really hard to believe.

hmm… there's a different between going around slashing fiction work and actually liking gay porn, though. my initial statement said that 60-70% (or just simply "most", let's stop with the guesstimated numbers) of the people who like yaoi restrict themselves in 2-d realm, even when they're slashing tv-show characters. won't you agree, that even these people who slash just about everything, would go EW when you show them hardcore explicit gay porn video?

About what e1n and megakazul are saying, I think there's some yaoi type of slash fandom going on outside of anime/manga and into other media like American cartoons and even some live action tv shows/movies, but they're still restricted to the realm of fiction in mostly fantasy types of settings. And when I have seen non-anime type of slash stuff it's either in the form of writing or they're drawn in a bishie type of style.

The problem here is that y!gallery contains a crapload of art, but very little fiction. I've READ slashy stuff from other fandoms, such as Lost and Prison Break and whatnot. However, seeing as how shows like this use live actors, it's understandably waaaaaay more difficult to draw them. The basic anime/manga style of drawing can be picked up fairly easily, and thus it makes more sense to draw these characters as opposed to "real" characters. If you look at ff.net, the anime categories have quite a few thousand fics each, but last time I checked, the Harry Potter section ALONE had well over 300,000. Check out somewhere like DA though, and you'll see that the quality of the anime drawings far outweighs most of the Harry Potter art that shows up on there.
It simply seems to be the particular kind of art media being observed.

Well, after pouring through the pages, I"d like to thank e1n for that awesome theory, and CosmicDebris for opening this thread back up for discussion.
Indeed, anything is discuss-able on the forums, so long as people are willing to make real contributions. And I'm seeing plenty of it.
When I created the thread, I was pretty much looking for a generalized reason behind the appeal. All these folks who "support", as it were, couples like Sanji and Zoro, Light and L, etc. etc., confused me. What exactly is so appealing behind two male anime characters, redrawn to sometimes look more feminine, engaging in homosexual behavior?
The answer not worth a damn is the Apple Jacks answer, "they just do". There's something generally unique behind every fetish out there, and this one just had me wondering.

By the responses so far, I'd say there's more to say than "duh". This is a discussion forum after all.I have to say honestly, while I don't have any problem with yaoi, I find the whole subculture interesting but I have a hard time understanding the attraction.
