oh and the 1st match is fucking hilarious
I'll admit I'm unsure whether Kaiji can win against Dio/Kenshiro (since that's most likely the final matchup in Group A, all the others are women/faggots/not well known enough)
I stopped reading after i read Shinji's name. I mean what the fuck?

I mean, what did you expect from the fucked up minds of /a/?
Zephos makes a valid point. I should have called it "No University".
hey man you're not suppressing your power levels right
In all seriousness, I am a disgusted at having to defend the female characters, especially when did a little "searching" and found out the joke/female combinations equal almost half the legitimate entries, which is, suffice to say, a recipe for failure given we know how certain people like to vote.
Outside of proxy and bot-votes, which I'm not sure will work or not, I think people who think the "jokes" are going to get far are going to be in for a surprise.
"Motsu", for example, is a drawing. "Dango" has taken QUALITY Cabbage's role as our resident "manly meal". Just…ugh.
On Kaiji, he's an amazing badarse fellow, especially during the E-Card gamble which we have yet to see (it follows the Human Derby, meaning we won't see it for about a month, maybe more) but I don't think he could topple Dio or Kenshiro, especially since this is the REAL Kenshiro this time and he's got to tango with the Aquarion nominations, though I don't know what's up with it.
…
On Shinji, he's a classic troll nomination, and was with us last year. Why are people surprised? o_O
its worse when there are people there less deserving then him
Jesus you're right there are characters from Magical girl series D:
@Daisuke:
I mean, what did you expect from the fucked up minds of /a/?
Eh, I'm more of a /v/ man myself to be honest. But, like, i thought that to the majority of non-japanese people GAR meant actual men and NOT effeminate pieces of shit and stuff.
Fortunately i see no trace of that one glossy black fellow.
Gen Fudo has a real chance on that side because the guy is a notable Badass and that show is quite entertaining
Who is this "Imber" I just read about, and what's Aquarion's story?
Sell those two to me folks!
lol I just noticed that Bruce Ironstaunch made it into it….
ANN does a much better job of summing up Aquarion so
n a distant future, humanity once again is facing the threat of the "Shadow Angels". Mystical creatures who returned after 12.000 years of absence. They attack human cities and kidnap their inhabitants in order to drain their "prana" (vital energy). To fight against them, youngsters with special powers from arround the world were gathered and trained to pilot the "vector machines", three ancient ships that together form mankind's ultimate weapon, "Aquarion". The story revolves mainly arround Apollo, a teenager rumored as the reencarnation of Apolonius, a fallen angel who fought against his own kind to protect mankind. Few believe it could be true, but the fact is that dispite his untamed and reckless nature, he proved to be an invaluable asset in the battle against the Shadow Angels.
the series also has its gimic that the pilots of the 3 planes that combine orgasm when the mechas form… but its a wholly entertaining series that doesn't take it self to seriously and while it isn't as high on the epic or badass as GR, GGG or TTGL, its just a fun series with some really well done action sequences
sounds pretty good, but everyone has a boner over Kaiji (the series and the character)

Haha, what?

No kidding. Everywhere I go, he seems to be talked about in /a/ But what is it about Kaiji that turns everyone on, besides being a moeGAR?
…from what I gather, guys think he's molestable but genuinely inspiring. There are often threads full of pics of Kaiji-harassment, but not one sage/mod-induced deletion in sight.
Haha, what?
no joke,
it shows what im talking about in the opening
and if your wondering Fudo is Aquarions Taiga like commander although hes a bit different

In Kaiji 13, Kaiji gave a very Coach/Kamina-like inspiring speech to rally the other Human Derby contestants into ignoring the danger of their gamble. That's a pretty attractive quality, and (not to spoil anything) he does a lot of interesting stuff later.
Namely the "E-Card" incident, which I'm sure a lot of people would liken to something Akagi would do.
…
Ugh, CGI mechs, Taleran. :|
I see what you mean about the orgasm thing, though. Haha, that's pretty crazy! Is the rest of the show as well animated as the opening movie?
Also, by "doesn't take itself too seriously" how do you define that? As in, GL-level or GGG-level?
the seriousness is between the 2 ranging from one to the other at times, and the CG is alot better than whats shown in that and yeah the animation is always top notch

going by the immense, unavoidable amounts of fanart (thanks Japan) he gets like…raped or something
though that would probably make guys love him more )':
I know some of the things that happen to him later on, and he really is the ULTIMATE SURVIVOR. It's almost hard to believe he has the same VA as Akagi.

It's an OVA, right? I guess that would explain it, I was thinking it was a TV-series and went, "wow, this is pretty good".
I'm a bit pressed for time now that I've got a single week left of vacation, but if I manage to finish Oh! Edo Rocket (and I can testify, Ginjiro is a very manly dude) I'll check it out.
I want to see Moyashimon first, though. I saw a screen-shot of the lesbians in a "morning after" scene and thought it was strange, but now I'm excited as heck! Hopefully it'll be awesome.
It needs MORE SUBS though! ._.

What happens is,
! He ends up on the losing end of the E-Card bet, and so cuts off his ear as collateral so he can survive.
Kaiji's apparently gotten "battle scars" from his various gambles. In Espoir, he was supposed to get branded with an "11" on his arm, but that wasn't shown in the anime. I don't know the specifics, but he would probably get a charred finger or something fried in the Human Derby match by touching the steel bridge.
I know some of the things that happen to him later on, and he really is the ULTIMATE SURVIVOR. It's almost hard to believe he has the same VA as Akagi.
What strikes me as amazing is that people call him a gambling genius "on par with Akagi". He just seems a whole lot smarter than most other people, who are comparatively dumb (like Andou and the trusting Furuhata). He gets outsmarted from time to time as well, and when he can't use his smarts he gets fudged, like right now on the bridge.
it was originally a 26 episode TV show the OVA came out last year hence the nomination (the OVA comes after the TV series), that opening was the TV opening btw

Akagi and Kaiji are fundamentally different. Akagi (at least in his youth) is incredibly bored with life and loves the thought of pointlessly gambling his life away. Kaiji, like normal humans, has an attachment to living, which restricts his gambling capabilities. (P.S.: it's 21, not 11)
Moyashimon also has a trap; MOYASHIMON: TALES OF HOMOCULTURE
OH SNAP! I've met Moyashimon's trap! I thought he was one of the lesbians.
Fuuuuuuudge. D:
…
Oh, I guess it was a lesbian after-all. AND WHAT ABOUT THAT BREWER'S SON, eh? Pretty Gar himself, getting drunk and sleeping with that graduate student even though he's just a freshman!
woah wait hold on a minute
Jean Valjean
They made a Les Miserables anime?
If I cared more, it would be sort of depressing that Jonathan Joestar is probably going to lose to Light Yagami in a supposed "manly" competition.
Guess I'll just have to root for Speedwagon and Zeppeli who at least have decent chances of getting through Round 1.
@BuckingHorse:

Haha, what? Ever heard of "swimming lessons"? The Jojos are going to clean clock this year, and we'll even have another (in my view) hilarious match of Jojo v. Jojo (character-wise I mean) before a block final.
@BuckingHorse:
Guess I'll just have to root for Speedwagon and Zeppeli who at least have decent chances of getting through Round 1.
Speedwagon has to face Dio in Round II if he survives Round I.
I hope your right about the JoJo's, I'm still disappointed SBR wasn't allowed to compete.

That's assuming Dio beats Kenshiro but yeah either way Speedwagon is pretty fucked in Round II.
Actually I'm pretty sure Zeppeli is gonna lose to Simon in Round II, so it looks like I'm going to have to pin all my hopes for a JoJo champion on Dio.
@BuckingHorse:

I'm annoyed that so many non-Gar females got in the tournament; joke entries are here for a fun first, maybe second round match. Then the tournament gets to serious business.
But what the heck are malformed little monkeys like Konata from the moepedo failfest doing in a manly tournament? When we could have had on-going manga or new manga candidates electable in their place?
@BuckingHorse:
That's assuming Dio beats Kenshiro but yeah either way Speedwagon is pretty fucked in Round II.
That's going to be an EPIC round, even moreso than Coach v. Kamina. I'm really excited because I saw Jojo's OVA since the last SaiGar and I'm all ready to board the Dio man-tr…uh, campaign for Dio.
@BuckingHorse:
Actually I'm pretty sure Zeppeli is gonna lose to Simon in Round II, so it looks like I'm going to have to pin all my hopes for a JoJo champion on Dio.
Don't count out Sakai Yuuji or Mr. Delicious just yet. Higurashi's two year fanbase is comparable in size to GL's six month fanbase, and since the tournament is known to websites that value Higurashi very highly, I wouldn't be surprised if Claude gets a lot of votes. Same goes for Yuuji.
And that's not even considering the "lightning strikes" scenario - if Shana II gets to "Sairei no Hebi - Sakai Yuuji" by the time Yuuji's match rolls around, he'll beat Simon. Badly. Imagine the Shana fans and TYPE-MOON fans rallying around a Shiki Tohno/Gilgamesh fusion; we saw how powerful a lobbying force the FSN fans had with Archer and Gilgamesh last time, now add the Shana fans from various forums onto that list.
Mr. Delicious is the weakest candidate in that tier simply because most of his fame is derived through his name, but it will still be a very interesting match.
I never really understood why Dio was GAR, he doesn't seem to follow the definitions except fo the pure manliness one which isn't really GAR, Raoh makes sense because of his personality and way to living Dio however is a cheat, sneak, despicable guy.
That's going to be an EPIC round, even moreso than Coach v. Kamina.
ahem you mean Coach vs Kamina vs A. niger
I'm gonna get a lot of shit for this, but why the hell is Speedwagon in it?
Yes he has an awesome hat, but other then that isn't that manly. Then again I've never really liked Speedwagon. I hated him at first, but got to used to him. Still don't like him though.

I think the thing is that most people who say someone is badass and great just like to slap that tag on them.
Results: Match day 1
Group A
1: Dio Brando (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood): 252 votes
2: Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star): 245
3: Yoko (Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann): 213
1: Emperor of Britannia (Code Geass): 514 votes
2: Motsu (Negima?!): 70
3: Aihara Kazuki (Kimikiss Pure Rouge): 32
Next Round - Match day 2
Hosaka (Minami-ke) vs. Teresa (Claymore) vs. Galatea (Claymore)
Itou Kaiji (Kaiji) vs. Gen Fudo (Aquarion OVA) vs. Boota (Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann)
Dio struck me as awesome because he had a great personality, set up pretty good defenses for himself to prevent the Jojos from finding him and figuring out his secrets, and was pretty insane in battle.
Oh, also. I just got back online after a day without power (Northern California folk know what's going on) just to see the epic battle between Dio and Kenshiro. Seven votes made the difference - if I had managed to vote I'd have cast one for Ken since I figured he was the under-dog here, but man, even with Hokuto's fanbase almost eroded seeing a match this close is GREAT.
Charles di Britannia cleaned clock on the other side, as expected.
How is Hosaka GAR? He's just really sweaty and has sweaty delusions.
Plus:
Actually I might have just answered my question.
Group A
1: Hosaka (Minami-ke) 553 votes
2: Teresa (Claymore) 308 votes
3: Galatea (Claymore) 74 votes
1: Itou Kaiji (Kaiji) 555 votes
2: Boota (Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann) 350 votes
3: Gen Fudo (Aquarion OVA) 75 votes
Next Round - Match day 3
The Skull Man (The Skull Man) vs Kusanagi Kenji (Kotetsushin Jeeg) vs Robert E O Speedwagon (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood)
Balsa (Seiri no Moribito) vs Apollo (Aquarion OVA) vs Itoshiki Nozomu (Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei)
I did a face-palm when I read today's results.
Going by what warp said, it's little less than a joke for Speedwagon to top "The Skull Man" AND Kusanagi Kenji! Kenji was awesome, even if The Skull Man wasn't - I had a fear the Jojo fans would be a bit over zealous in voting who they knew, and this says it.
On the other side…hilarious joke, right? Not a joke? I'm in despair.
Nice hat.
…
Sixteen han.
Results: Match day 4
Group B
1: L (Death Note) 403 votes
2: Graham Acre (Gundam 00) 377votes
3: Ito Makoto (School Days) 269 votes
1: Alucard (Hellsing Ultimate) 722 votes
2: Clare (Claymore) 275 votes
3: Ellis (El Cazador de la Bruja) 33 votes
I'm at a loss here
I fail to see why. I'll have to explain yet again -
L is the most popular character from an extremely popular mainstream series, and he managed to get just a scant thirty votes more than a character from a brand new mech series. Even if it is Gundam, Gundam isn't exactly "mainstream" along the lines of Bleach or Naruto, right?
Graham's defeat isn't something to be frowned on, it's a victory if anything, since it shows that the mech fans still have a lot of power should they decide to flex it all.
On the other side…yeah well, Clare and Ellis are girls. The latter is a girly girl and the former a sort of shotacon, but her addiction to Raki is sort of sweet.
Or perhaps you meant to post today's results instead, which were more face-palming but not exactly "GOD DANG IT, EPIC FAIL" horrible.
Heh, Bruce won his match. Awesome.
I don't care what anyone says, Bruce Ironstaunch is one of my favorite GL characters.
Though he was the only character of today's six entrants that I actually know of, and that's probably for the best.
I've always loved Kino's Journey so I'm pretty pleased with today's results, despite my love for Hibari.
I'm finding it sort of funny that out of all the TTGL characters thus far only one has gotten through of course we have yet to get to the super popular characters like Kamina and Simon
Who is Kino?
…
And yeah, pretty hilarious how most of the GL characters have been squashed. When Lord Genome comes to bat I think we'll see a change of pace.
Kino's Journey:
Surprised that Kino overtook Hibari. Not that I mind much, though I would've taken Balsa over Zetsubou-sensei.
Heh, Shark Fujishiro. I hope things get more GAR soon before the skin on my face dissolves.
Looks like Lord Genome did about as well as expected. He got the most votes of any individual so far.
I'm having trouble staying loyal to Coach with such an incredibly fun and hilarious campaign for Aspergillus Niger, our resident fungus. Just read the sticky and you'll see what I mean.
Even with a sticky on /a/ I'd still say Aspergillus Niger is probably going to come third or maybe second in this round.
I just can't see Kamina losing. As even though I find him to be overrated, he gets strong support from both anime and mech fans. While the other two appeal to more specific fanbases.
