Really, I have not understood ever in this thread hostility against anyone, generally, and specially against newbz, I think these boards are too peacefull and this is good or bad, it depends. Maybe somethin happened when I wasn't postin?

I don't think we should be grammar maniacs. I am notorious for making typos and mispellings myself, as are many of our mods and admins. Also, we have many non-english speakers, where english is not their first language, and they are bound to make mistakes. As Oi Sanji just said, no one's perfect. Furthermore, if someone has been picked or had nasty things said to them about poor grammar or spelling…they should by all means let us know, because that sort of behavior is not tolerated.
But is it really too much to ask, to have people capitalize a letter at the beginning of the sentence? To make at least one complete coherent sentence, that demonstrates one complete thought?
I really don't think that's asking someone to write an essay.

For the most part, it is peaceful, but there definitely are some rotten eggs I've seen floating around.
On the subject of elitism, yes, it is a problem. And an annoying one. Let me stress also that my previous posts were not aimed at those who are new to the series (not to mention young does not necessarily equal new, old does not necessarily equal long time fan) - hell. I'm new to the series, compared to some of the people here. People without a knowledge of One Piece should be welcomed, and I think they are by some people. But you also have people who jump on someone for starting a new thread for a question that's been asked already - instead of answering the question, or pointing them to a thread that does. It's an attitude I hope we can do something about in the future.

However, we are not a babysitting board or playground.
I actually think any admins/mods are babysitter/slave in ANY forum. Or teacher at school kind of thing. We cannot avoid new people coming in, but isn't it nice if the person become "normal" after while and contribute a lot?
i tink i wrote it smwhere b4, but i used 2 type liek dis. n believe or not, dat was wen i was 20 yrs old. wat a shame. but ppl still kept up wit me n made me realize that I was typing SO stupid… Now look at me, ain't I normal? >.>;
Probably because of that experience, I feel like we should give them some allowance (even though that allowance shouldn't be unlimited).
ps. What is "Wordy McWord"?

Getting a bit off-topic here, forgive me.

Sure, I hate bad grammar and so forth as much as the next person, but you have to quit this whole "Us Against Them" attitude and embrace them for who they are. They're a living person, like you and me, they might be interested in these things.
As another living person, I'm also interested in readable sentences so I have to disagree with your opinion on catering to all levels of 'typing skills'. :)

**Sure, there's blood, sex, swearing, but this is Toei Animation, for the love of Christ. Children watch this show, amongst older people, and if some of these said, 'Newbies', can't type as well, who gives a damn? - They are entitled to a valid opinion, too.
What?! Where's the sex? I can't believe I missed it… darn.
As for people who can't type well (they're not exclusively newbies, believe me), I give a damn. I don't mind a typo or two, I don't mind a grammar mistake or two because I don't always catch my own mistakes. I am interested in their opinions, but the problem is, I can't read their posts. That makes me frustrated because I feel stupid and I cannot form an valid response. Ignoring their posts in a thread I'm interested in is just disrespectful, IMHO.**_

I think this sentence sums it up nicely.
There was a member whose text had been almost unreadable, and I finally just asked them nicely if they could try to limit their abbreviation useage. And you know what? It helped! But I can't be PMing every single member who has a problem privately about this, which is why it would be nice to add it to the rules. Not necessarily as a normal, strict rule that someone would be warned for, but more as a guideline or suggestion for posting. I'm not looking to ban people who can't type. I'm looking to encourage them to expand their typing abilities to a more coherent level.
And I believe wordy mcword was meant as a postive thing, ocean ^_~
Edit -
Mod-san, isn't that exactly what babysitting is?
My babysitting comment was meant more towards the earlier discussions about "One Piece is for kids, so silly childish posts are a part of the board!" I'm sorry, but silliness like Eneru vs. Pikachu is not what I think the boys had in mind to be discussed when this board was created. But I do agree that on some levels we do "babysit." It's just not the level I was refering to.
I disagree with using insults against other members, but I think there is a fine line between an insult and a critical comment. One may feel that what's been said to him/her is nasty, but others may feel that it's not. Mature posters will try solving the problem by themselves. I guess that's less work for the mods as well
I do agree with you, there is that fine line, and people fall on different sides of that line. It's something that needs to be judged on a case by case basis. It is definitely possible to explain to someone that their text is hard to read and ask them politely to change their typing habits (I've done it!) But when the critical comments turn into downgrading "I'm better than you, you suck." kind of things, that's when there's a problem.
No one has told me of any places where they felt insulted by another member, however, so I haven't been able to look.

Quality of threads? What about the quality of moderators. o.0
What are u talking about the qualities of MODS..
the more the better.
More MODS means better protection on this site and it makes this Board flow easier. And my suggestion is that when a new member has joined.. they recieve a msg about posting like..
"Welcome to Arlong Park Forums"
"We are glad to have you aboard and we hope you have a great time making threads and posting but before you begin all that we've made a step by step tutorial about making threads and what threads are appropriate and which aren't..
" and it goes on… anyone think its a good idea? -
Aren't you guys slaving us enough already? :P
I thought we get one of those emails already when we join the forum. Though, I don't think I ever read them +_+ Maybe in PM works better? Don't know…
-
More mods lead to higher chances of getting a dumbass.
And giving out messages like those seem too automatic, like something you will get from a site that has a good free mmorpg and open to all. Those things just lost all meaning to say.
Let's just treat the guy with respect.. that's good.
-
Yeah i guess ur all right. The more MODS make the newbies think
"Oh lots of MODS here. I guess I can do whatever I want and then they'll fix it"
<_<
EDIT: Sorry my bad, when I put "MSG" i meant as in PM'd.
sorry peeps

It's the old "trap" ya know… When you start a board. you have only a bunch of people, but the posts are OK, and you're communciatin better. When the board starts becomin more famous and better lookin, more people come, and the quantity of the posts fucks quality straight between the eyes. And by putting more and more Mods, you will create a semi-"military" kinda style of a board, something like Orwell's "1984", and the people will start doin shit. By having only a handful of mods you cannot control the big crowd.
Yeah, I kinda get frustrated too when I see a post like "I lik Zolo 2, we n00bz a' tha real zhzit!" and stuff. Not by the grammar mistakes of course cause I make many of em myself  but by the way of posting that doesn't allows me to understand, as Ranier said. What the fuck's wrong with their brains?!
And now, many people believe that most of us who posted in this thread "hate" newbz, cause we say these thingies...That's the worst part. Someone said "Leave this "We against them" theme". I still can't find someone from the older generation who has this type of attitude, really. Maybe the newbz and the "less newbz" are biting each other's head? -

Maybe you guys have all been chillin' in the Anime section of the Forum, but the Manga section seems pretty relaxed and all void of the mind-numbingly boring/repetitive threads. That, and also the topics get changed off-topic so much that you could start off discussing Chapter 366 and end up with a 5 page long debate/discussion on the use of 'nakama' in scanslations and what editors/translators think.
But we're talking about the overall quality of the threads here (which I'd like to think that I contribute to). Honestly, I don't expect this forum to have mind-probing topics like "Have you ever been in love?" or "Advice thread" that you can get on other sophisticated forums…
I'll elaborate more later, but right now I'm starving.
-
Well, although the manga section has been fine, I understand what everyone means. Take a look at the manga page, the first page is full of locked threads that are both off topic or old chapters, meaning not much else is being dicussed like it used to. But that's really mainly because much of the story has been researched and broken down to bits. A revelation like 'Dracule' or otherwise hasn't come out in a long time. That's what's missing. But if there's nothing to talk about, I'd rather have nothing there than it filled with garbage and I'm sure any moderator would agree with that.

I'm sorry, but I can still read a sentence if it isn't capitalized or punctuated at all.
