Well nothing in it so far has really amazed me. But I've only read the first few chapters in Shonen Jump. I'll just have to wait and see just how good a basketball manga can be. I've liked it from what I've read, it just surprises me that it's that popular.

in the US volumes of One Piece is the art replaced and the names of the artist changed?
If you're talking about the japanese fanart then yes the art is replaced with american fanart. Which is for the most part poorly copied panels from the manga.
-
i dont no why but i dont like jojo i think the arts weird to me thats just my opinion dont yell

One of Viz's recent newsletters was asking for more OP art to put in upcoming volumes. They must not be getting enough and that's why they always have to settle for this sort of dreck.

viz needs better marketin ideas for there manga all they do is market naruto

You know its the bottom of the barrel when they even print a direct trace of that one picture of Zoro that Scott Ramsoomair drew.

I'm guessing without the middle finger and Zo_ro_ spelling, correct?

Viz posted this message today on their website:
"Kubo is Coming"
If it was "Oda is Coming" I would actually get excited.
-
For a second there, you raised my hopes a little.
-
what do you mean kubo is coming like tite kubo is coming to the u.s of a
-
Its all based on perspective. Kubo is just one of the big Jump names in the US (alongside Toriyama, Watsuki, K. Takahashi, Kishimoto & Obata) so to have him in something like an interview or a convention would be hype to them.
Then again, I say this also means Oda, Murata & Sorachi need more respect in the US. (among others)

Got my issue. There was two of them and they weren't in plastic like the Jumps have been for awhile now, I picked it up and saw "Bleach Pinup Inside" on the cover and went "That's why, some kids came in here, ripped them open, and stole them." but nope, they're in there in tact. Guess they finally decided to stop with those cardboard things listing what manga was in the issue.
Either way, I'll scan anything of interest (including the Bleach pinups, even tho no one here probably cares) and post them later.

You mean the index that lists which page each manga starts on ? My issue still has that.
But I just now got my issue to. A bit late. =/ I thought the Bleach pinup was pretty nice. But you have to be carefull not to rip the damn thing in half. It also bothers me how it's double sided. Now I have to choose which one I want to see when I put it up on my wall. It's not a big deal though for this one.
But what really pissed me off is what they did with the "Naruto Poster Book" that advertised "11 Huge Posters". All but one of them were double sided, making for "6 Huge Posters". The cheap asses. :getlost: I had to go out and buy another one. I think I'm done with Naruto posters for now though. =P I might get a cool Japanese Shippuden one, but that's it. I still don't have any OP posters…
-
Yeah, issue at my Wal-Mart has it in plastic bagging. Maybe the stocker took it off, but I don't see why. Either way, nothing seems amiss so it's all good.
I bought this months Anime Insider, beyond a nice picture of Light on the cover it features a 4 page article on One Piece, spoiling major things for American audiences with mentions of Franky, Brook (they spelled it Brooke) joining and the Four Emperors. They also mentioned that Dragon's mystery is answered in volume 45. I might scan, even tho someone already has.
-
Well now it's apparent that they have no plans on releasing the earlier chapters since they're just going to start with the ones printed in the magazine. Apparently this was that the request of the creator.

Wow… I say VIZ fucked up. I'll probably get it and the other BoBoBo Bo BoBoBo graphic novel regardless though.

Yeah I noticed that. I looked at my Bo-bobo 11 and saw that it had about the same pages as what's going to be printed. Which means…Viz screwed up and the first two Cyber City chapters may never be out in the US. (especially since they link up to the Hallelujah Land arc and explain what happened to Suzu and where Torpedo Girl returned from...and especially since they're going into the Pana fight already in progress! Dang I hate Viz's logic!)
-
I'm trying to get into Bobobo, especially considering I bought a giant statue of him. But it looks like all kinda crazy is going on, but that seems to fit the series. Wonder why the author requested it? Eitherway, would watching the dubbed anime till its end drop me off at or near where this volume starts? Or better yet, the August 2007 issue of Shonen Jump as that's where I started buying it every month.
-
Slam Dunk is considered one of the best manga of all time.
Maybe… If you're really into sports manga that is.

According to Sawai, he "claims" (by way of Viz) that his early works weren't as good as the stuff from Hallelujah Land on. Personally, I think the Gunkan and OVER arcs are just as good or even better than his later arcs so I don't know where he gets that from.
-
Err… I'm surprised he cares with the randomness which is the series.

I really don't know if this is Sawai or this is Viz speaking on behalf of Sawai. Other countries have released the series from vol. 1 on, yet its only here that we get a special "Hallelujah Land" volume, then pick it up years later from Cyber City without the first two chapters of the arc. (let alone the Jump releases are one chapter a month…not even two like other series that aren't Naruto, OP or Bleach) So that pretty much means that we're stuck, with no promise of early volumes and an extremely long wait until they get to the stuff from where the anime ends. (presuming they go straight into the Former Maruhage arc after Cyber City, we have about four volumes worth of material for that, then a bit over a volume and a half of manga in the Reverse Maruhage before we get to manga-only stuff)
-
I didn't know Viz did hardback versions of the [One Piece] manga. I saw volume 13 in hardback a few weeks ago, but the cover looked crap.
It's a shame we're missing the beginning of Bobobo, I really wanted to read the beginning.
-
Regardless, I'll still read and probably buy whatever Bo-Bobo material Viz puts out, because I love the series as well as their translation work for it.
I'm still bummed they're not releasing all of it, though if that's how Sawai requested it, that's a good enough reason for me. Wouldn't be so bad if I could find any scanslations out there past chapter 20.
-
Hard back One Piece volumes? That's news to me.

Somehow I wish I had the means to scan this series completely online so someone could scanslate it (that, Nube and City Hunter), but unfortunately I have no space in my room for a scanner and I don't want to run back and forth wasting money at Kinkos. I just wish there was an easier way.
-
I didn't know One Piece had hard back. The only manga I've seen hardback was volume one of Bleach. That was at an in-town bookstore; I've never seen hardback manga at any major retailer, such as Borders, or Barnes & Nobles.

I'd offer as I have a powerful scanner, but I don't got the money to buy the Japanese volumes.

Hmm…I was thinking of a slight alternative for the moment: though I don't have scans, I can translate what I have and put them up on another website. Probably would have to find a way to contact you for the script but then anyone who has the manga could try to put it on some raw Bo-bobo scan. (but if I do that and get up through the part where Viz is, do I keep going or do we just skip to stuff Viz hasn't reached yet?)
-
I see no reason to stop for the sake of Viz, they're taking their time. I just checked YesAsia and they don't have the entire series, so I don't know where to get it even if I had the money.

I've seen it all the time at Kinokuniya…it may start getting rarer now its over but I'm planning to get the last two Shinsetsu volumes there soon.

There's no import stores or anything like that where I live, so my only option is the net.

And here I'm waiting for my city to grow over 1 million people just to get these important stores like that T_T
-
My city is at 614,000, I guess I'm close. XD
-
buuhan theres a good website called sasuga.com they have every manga
-
Meh…we don't have import stores in Philly unless you live in a certain area where its important. We've got Russians, Indians, Chinese, Koreans & Brazillians...no Japanese, thus why I have to go up to NY. I wasn't forcing you to get these things from a store...I guess I thought if you wanted it, you could get it online.
-
@Saucegayover6000: I think you mean http://www.sasugabooks.com/, I've been there before but I haven't heard any feedback here on them.

I just bought the Blue Grand Elements off them, they had shipped it by the end of the day and it arrived 6-7 days later which is fast considering they shipped to the UK. They're very good. I've ordered the Red book today and I'd use them again. Only problem is they aren't shipping stuff until Tuesday because they're at some convention.
-
Yesterday I went to the Comic Con in Novi, MI and there they had a dealer that had a lot of Viz releases a month early including One Piece Vol. 18. I just wanted to inform you that to my surprise Ace's tattoo is UNCUT in the actual volume. And no, Zoro is still "Zolo".

i ordered a bunch of times from sasuga. i bought all of w7 yesterday and there shipping it tuesday to. They have great shipping speed and everything in stock
-
They're reverting Ace's tattoo back in the volume? Does this mean that the One Piece volumes will no longer involve art edits? Cause that's quite a controversial one…
Still disappointed that they didn't change everything back tho, that would have been awesome. I was thinking "prototypes?" but there'd be no reason for them to have a version with his tattoo in tact.
-
I know the tattoo was unedited snce I still have the OP cover Mar.2008 issue of SJ and saw Aces tattoos left the way they were.
I still need in US vol.2-5,7,9-10,12-18. in JP vol.1-38,45-49/50
I dont have a import store here so I have to go by online sources.
besides,I can only buy the US editions of OP.:getlost: -
looks through March 2008 issue
Okay, perhaps you're confused. We aren't talking about his arm tattoo. We're talking about his back tattoo which was originally the manji, a symbol commonly misinterpreted as the swastika used to represent the Nazi party. It was edited to crossbones just like in the anime and what Oda had to start doing himself recently. Ace's arm tattoo has no reason to be edited as he's Ace in the viz manga.
-
Maybe it was left, because it was referenced in vol. 8 as a peace symbol.

That's not good because that screws up the countinuity, because 27 volumes later, Oda changes it into a cross.
-
Viz must be clueless on the whole matter but it makes me wonder if they even bothered changing it in the older volumes in Japan.

Funny. The fact that they DIDN'T edit it screws up continuity. In the manga.

Nice, Viz is growing some balls.
Though it doesn't really matter now since Oda himself changed Whitebeard's emblem.
-
Well, I've got a nice import store about an hour or so away, and they get the new volumes quick (as in about a week or two after they're released in Japan), so I can stay up to date.
