The anime production team really makes it their own. They have fun with it. Great thing about the anime. No boundaries to fuck up in filler.
Gintama Discussion

I honestly see this as FUNimation's next big aquisition waiting to happen. The humor's right up their alley, not to mention it being based off of a fairly popular Shonen manga (as most of their shows tend to be). With the right dubbing team and some minor joke re-writes, Gintama might even have a shot on [adult swim] as a nice break from the usual serious action anime.
Will have to address this at the next 'Con I attend. Or maybe I should PM some FUNi reps?
-
Rumbel released episode 49! Next episode the best song in all of Gintama begins! Shura!
-
What is 50 about that makes it so great?
…..................is Kondo in it?
-
Lots of parodys, irc.
I honestly think the Anime's alot better then the Manga, probably one the few I can comfortably say that.
-

I agree. All the hilarious filler moments ensure that it's retaining its humor while not going too fast, and the voice actors are perfect for their roles.

48's second half was pretty sad once I figured out what was going on. Really like how they set that up.
And jesus christ, Gintama usually isn't that adult-oriented but episodes like 49 makes me wonder what audience they can exactly fit this show in. That was possibly some of the closest full-frontal nudity without it being full-frontal nudity I've ever seen.
I liked the Akagi references, even if I've never watched it. I think I might now.

when I watched 49, the quality was poor
…........I couldn't tell if you could see anything......are you able to?
-
It got pretty close, their groins were basically just shadowed out.
I mean, it didn't bother me, but I can imagine that causing alot more of an uproar here.
-
Oh okay, I couldn't tell due to the quality. I was pretty creeped out so I didn't comment on it until now.
-
I don't really follow Gintama, but I watched episode forty nine for the Akagi parody. It was OK, I guess, but a lot of the terms in it don't make sense. "Oyaman"? "Parent"? "Atari"? What?
-
They were all Mahjong terms.
-
No they're not. :wassat:

not the best episode to start with
try another one -

You know how they didn't know the game. Play off that.
Atari is a move used in Go. Parent was just like another name for the one who starts off. Lots of parody stuff and jokes. If you aren't familiar with other games or that much culture, it is gonna go over your head. Especially this episode.
-
not the best episode to start with
try another oneThe Underwear Thief is a great episode to start with.
-
the first episode with Kondo stalking Otae is what made me love the series
-
For me the episode 16 was where I became a fan. It was the one where Hasegawa was driving the taxi.
-
I sort of fell in love with the concept of it. Futuristic technology in the past, lots of humor. Then as I started to read/watch it, I sort of got the whole "life lessons" concept from Gintama. My favorite part of Gintama would have to be the arc when Kagura's dad comes to Earth. It's serious but still retains its humor and the life lessons.
-
Yeah, Gintama really has a nice balance with that.
-
i like it from episode one, even though its a filler lol
i knew it would be interesting with a edo/future setting
-
Fiddy out by Rumbel. :)
-
-
^ OW crap, that was so funny…but in such a retarded way (sorry, but I hated that movie that part is parodying).
That was such an awesome episode, oh yeah
-
My favourite was Hijikata's trailer. I would totally watch a cooking-show like that.

Yes I could watch Hijikata splurt a somewhat dubious white substance on a plate any day. Mayonnaise has never looked so tasty.
I also liked Otae's idea, too bad they would get sued right out of the face of the earth before it happens. Hasegawa's was great too, that samurai hobo is really a great character.

Another song by DOES for Opening 5:
-
-
-
(curses not having YouTube access at work due to firewalls) Well I guess I have to wait until I get home to see this.
Edit: No lie: DOES does it again! And the ED is hilarious with the kid version of everyone.
-
btw, for anyone who's seen 53 and onward, are they in the manga? If so, can you tell me what episode 53 is in the manga?
-
im only on episode 5
-
Well, just when you didn't think Gintama was going to top last year's "Dragonbleach Piece" insanity…
OP/ED is at the end but just watch the beginning…its nuts.
-
Um, video's not showing up.
Sounds cool and I wanna see. =[

53 was somewhere in volume 3, don't remember exactly
-
I've been wandering is this series worth looking into?
-
Fixed :ninja:

16 SPARKING!!
-
That was hilarious
-
Gintaman!! Gintaman!!
-
This haven't been updated for a long time…anyway, crunchyroll have many more episodes again (they already have that sword arc, I forgot to the name, but also the ones before it). They have up to episode 62
that part w/ the big robot was hilarious
-
The anime started in April 2006 and has already hit the 100's?! Wow. I have been meaning to read or watch more of this series. Which would you recommend?
-
The chapters in the 90s have a lot to do w/ the episodes that I watched yesterday (episode 58, I think, 61). Those ones are really good too watch (theres also 2-3 episodes about Kaguras father (and some huge space monster, I thought those episodes were good too)
-
awesome stuff, if I must say.
-
Bumping the thread cause I was coaxed by a friend to see this week's Gintama raw:
Three words: hilarious Dragonball ripoff! (based on, of all things, Hijikata trying to find a place to smoke) They even got DBZ music in it for the "recap" after the commercial!
-
I stopped watching this around episode 20 or so it doesn't seem to have a point.
-
im on ep 15 its pretty funny. Gives me something to watch when im really bored
-
@MonkeyDMalcolm:

Then the show wasn't for you. This series isn't supposed to have a point: its about "adults" living in a weird satirical world with an occasional action arc. Not all Jump series have to be the same, do they?
-
On the first post of this page what ep is that?
-

no they don't but it becomes repetitive and boring and the story wasn't going any where.
