Throw in my pirate flag with some extra features and some big packet, and I'd say it's money worth spending. Especially if some before mentioned lines were fixed.
I enjoy bonus stuff - I'm a nerd like that.

Funi has officially sold out =/
I want my bonus cookies with the DVDs!! D=
Because this is the anime industry. Like I said, other companies do this too. Naruto, Prince of Tennis etc. all get the same amount of episodes and for the same price.
The only reason DBZ doesn't (at least with these new releases) is because the series has been released so many times… They're doing this now.
Anyways, why the sudden distaste for the price? We've known it for ages now. It's like you guys all get a sudden urge to complain about something, I swear.
I'm gonna put away $25 this Christmas, then $25 on my birthday, then I'll have enough by the time the DVD comes out. That's how I'll save my money for the first set. Does anyone know if you can use cash for online orders?
@dirt:
This thread is much more tolerable if you skip all the internet fighting.
It really is.
Alabasta = America?
…seriously, can you pronounce?
I'm sorry to say this, but $50 for 13 episodes is a tad too much. I mean, I'm already poor enough to debate whether I should buy a $20 DVD or not. So this price might be a bit too much for me to ever afford. :sad:
I think it should be $50 for every saga uncut
Well isn't that a ridiculous idea.
@dirt:
This thread is much more tolerable if you skip all the internet fighting.
That leaves what, like five whole pages?
Well, the first set WILL contain all of the Jaya arc (and even a few Skypeia episodes).
Well actually with normal DVD prices you'd be paying 90 bucks for 12 episodes or three seperate DVDs. If anything Funi is saving you 40 bucks.
@Solar:

Five, very tolerable pages.
I was halfway through Aethos' first long post when I thought to myself, Hey, I actually don't give a shit, and stopped bothering to read 'em all.
^Dirty Monkey!! For once I wasn't involved in the argument. Aren't you proud? :D
Alabasta = America?
…seriously, can you pronounce?
Nono, you misunderstood. I mean it would be how Americans pronounce Arabasta.
I mean, the entire English language is essentially words from other languages only mispronounced.

and me getting into an argument is bad considering as far as I know I hardly get into long arguments like that…:getlost:

I didn't mean to say it was your post specifically, just that that's when I decided I didn't really care. It's an argument I've read through one too many times the past few months.
@Lobster:
^Dirty Monkey!! For once I wasn't involved in the argument. Aren't you proud? :D
You failed when you posted the Vivi picture.

Ah well sorry then. I guess I took what you said the wrong way then…
But you're right... Heck I know it started because I vented a bit, but I'm not even sure (besides out of stubborness) why I even bothered staying in that argument.
Best I can suggest is AnimeOnDVD's forums, they have a VA forum and FUNi writers/directors post there sometimes, and then there's people's individual journals/blogs, which I don't know of.
What I wouldn't recommend is setting up an online petition or calling/writing random people at FUNi. It'd be best to talk to the people directly. Which is why cons are so nice. I don't know of any other places/sites, but I'm sure some other people around on these forums do.
signing up on animeondvd.com… where do I leave my topic though? It wouldn't make sense to put it in the VA forum would it?... oh well I'll look through it.

Quality vs. Quantity, m'boy.
LOL. You two are very stubborn. Neither one of you is willing to back down or accept the opinion of the other. Well I'm gonna add some fuel to the fire so to speak. I'm pretty much on Aethos' side. I think that Funi is doing a very good job and because of the rush to get episodes done, some of their mistakes can be excused for now. Yes, they've made some dialogue mistakes and I know that's important to the fandom but this is just the TV dub. The uncut dub will use correct names and may have all the wrong dialogue corrected. But anyway, as I was saying, I think Funi is doing a wonderful job(anything is bettter than 4Kids version) and I'm behind them no matter what they do. As long as it keeps the original music and semi-accurate dialogue then I'm okay.
Wow, it must be nice to live in the future where you can be sure about this. How about passing down some winning lotto numbers now?
@Gerchak:
I'm not all too excited at the prospect of buying Uncut One Piece DVD sets that cost $50 for 13 episodes apiece. DBZ fans get something to the tune of 30-35 episodes (or an entire arc/saga) for that price.
That's not really fair. DBZ went through two releases (three if you count VHS) before it got to that point. When it first came out, it was 3-4 episodes per tape/disk.
On the subject of releases, I'm not thrilled about the 13 episode sets. It's annoying as hell in Naruto to have your set end in the middle of an arc and will be equally annoying for One Piece. I would much prefer an arc based release with an adjusted price to factor in episode counts. Like they didn't do for Yu Yu Hakusho.
And of course there's no way I'm paying $50 for 13 episodes. I get Naruto box sets for $25 bucks at Wal-Mart and I wouldn't pay a dollar more. Not for a box set that's going to abruptly end in the middle of a story in a show with hundreds of episodes.
One Piece has 330+ episodes now and is barely halfway done. There's no way I'm shelling out more than two dollars an episode. Not when, even at that price, it'll run me over a grand to get the whole thing.
Box 1: 1-18, Morgan to Kuro, 18 episodes
Box 2: 19-30, Baratie, 12 episodes
Box 3: 31-45, Arlong, 15 episodes
Box 4: 46-61, Loguetown and Apis, 16 episodes
Box 5: 62-77, Laboon to Little Garden, 16 episodes
Box 6: 78-91, Drum Island, 14 episodes
Box 7: 92-104, Alabasta Part 1, 13 episodes
Box 8: 105-117, Alabasta Part 2, 13 episodes
Box 9: 118-130, Alabasta Part 3, 13 episodes
Box 10: 131-143, Filler Hell, 13 episodes
That would be the ideal way to do things. Now you could do 13 episode seasons and get eleven sets out of the first 143 episodes instead of ten, but if you do, you're going to royally !@#$ up the first six box sets. The first one will stop abruptly in the middle of the Kuro fight, the second in the middle of Baratie, the third in the middle of Arlong, the forth one episode before the end of Loguetown, the fifth in the middle of Whiskey Peak, and the sixth on the first episode of Drum Island.
Because this is the anime industry. Like I said, other companies do this too. Naruto, Prince of Tennis etc. all get the same amount of episodes and for the same price.

Is it wrong to want moar episodes sooner?
Then I don't wanna be right.

Still a chick, m'boy.

While nothing's been said about redone lines, it has been mentioned that the names that have been wrong in the tv dub, like Rafitte, will be back to normal on the DVD release… unless I misunderstood someone.
50 freaking dollars? I'm not even going to ask my family to buy me that for my birthday, it's that damn expensive.
Was it ever confirmed that Rafitte's name is actually Lafitte (by Oda)?
@dirt:

You did, actually. He said that the names in the captions that came up would probably be fixed. Rafitte was a different mistake though. He's the only character from that episode where his name was SPOKEN incorrectly.
Yeah, really, fuck those DVD's. I'm more obliged to actually torrent/stream uncut now that I've heard how inaccessible they are. I'll buy the movie, and other merch, but 50 dollars for 13 episodes? I'd rather buy 4Kids' DVD's.
Hopefully Funi is lurking and sees this.
Hey Funi!! I'll gladly pay $59.99 for arch box sets!!!
Stop bawwing. It's $50, the same price as a goddamn video game.
@Solar:

no but it's a very good guess considering John Lafitte was a real pirate:

facepalm
Some of you guys are really something else. :getlost:
Cause' all video games cost the same price, right?
Hur hur hur… Have a bowl of vanilla rice. It's good for you.
Hey, Lobster.
Shut up.
Hmmm…. didn't Solar Knight just say something bout there being only 5 pages here where we didn't complain? Can we get that up to six, please?
Stop bawwing. It's $50, the same price as a goddamn video game.
Are you fucking kidding me? 50$ for an interactive, new age game with stunning graphics and online play doesn't compare to a 5 year old anime show with maybe 5 hours of material. They aren't one and the same in the very least!
Here's something that'll make you happy Lobster.
The trailer for the Alabasta movie came out… Well, it's just a longer version of the previous one. However, the announcer pronounces Vivi's name.
Vee-Vee.
There you go.

then you go and buy your shitty 4Kids DVDs and we'll all be enjoying our amazing One Piece UNCUT sets with original names, Japanese voices optional, and several other awesome features. you WILL NOT be torrenting anything, I will be sure of it. I will report YOU YOURSELF to YOUR ISP if I have to. You will either BUY the DVDs or not watch them.
Have a nice day.

I already new that. But thanks for reminding me. This is a good thing!!

Um, uh, Quexinos… Chill. ^_^; I mean... do you really mean that?
That is fucking amazing. I have never seen such a straight laced fan.

probably not… but all I gotta say is, thank god for AP's ignore feature.

I haven't played a game that has all of those in ages.
Uhh, right. I was trying (but failed) to compare it to something which is considered a "normal" purchase. (Or rather, something that people don't go "HOLY SHIT $50 FOR A VIDEO GAME!?" at.
Basically, $50 for 13 episodes isn't bad at all.
Edit: Whoooa, calm down with the "I'll report you to your ISP!" stuff, it's kind of over the top. I thought One Piece fans were supposed to be more civil. :(
Oh,Quexinos. Think happy thoughts. Happy Quexinos spanking Bellamy thoughs.
I'm not gonna report anyone to their ISP, I Just got mad at the "Fuck those DVDs" line when Funimation is obviously trying very hard for us. I wish this forum had a feature where your post has two minutes to go through before anyone sees it and in that two minutes you can edit it. Because I'm always typing stuff I regret like two minutes later but it's too late by then.
Happy Quexinos spanking Bellamy thoughs.
it's only happy if HE'S spanking ME or Sarquiss..
so I'm about to send a PM to Mike McFarland… what do I say?
You could say thank you before you start, and then thank you afterwards … in fact, just say thank you. Saves time that way.

Yeah, it really is. We're talking about a 300+ episode series. That's a major investment.
I'll pay up to $5 an episode for a short anime series, but Funi has to be out of their flipping mind if they think I'm going to shell out fifty bucks for 13 episodes of an ongoing shonen manga series.
$2 an episode. Maybe $2.50, just because it's One Piece. I could accept a $30 set and I'd be all over a $25 set. But there's no way in hell I'm paying $50.
Not that I expect anybody to actually sell them for $50. I'll bet the average store price will be $45 and the online price will be $40, but that's still too much. I break at $30.
It seems crazy that the 50 dollar price tag, which has been known SINCE APRIL, is the main focus of complaints now. My word…
I should point out we still don't know of the Special Features/Pack ins we're getting. And Funi makes some pretty sweet looking Box sets. Episodes aside, I KNOW it'll be worth the 50 dollars.
yeah I think they said it'll be cheaper online and "Uncle Mickey's Anime Store" across the street… if such a store exists.
…
Where is my trailer, RomanGod? Did you lie?
It's not on Funimation's page http://youtube.com/FUNimation
:'(
