Ep 22 had to be one of the most enjoyable in the series for me, probably safe to say, oen of the most softest eps in LS. So, less than 12 to 15 hours until ep 24…Let's see how they'll end this.
Lucky☆Star
-
-
The manga is still going on right?
-
-
I hope the last episode is good and funny
-
This show makes me facepalm.jpg
The only things it's good for are the opening and the ease of which it can be parodied.
-
I hope the last episode is good and funny
Nope. It will suck horribly, feature no jokes at all, and end with everyone dying in a very tragic way.
Or… maybe not. But yeah, if the last episode is at least as good as episode 23, I'll be satisfied. I mean, I never saw it as a show where you laugh out loud every five seconds, but it's still enjoyable.
-
Dude, I just checked this show out based on a friend recommendation…
Opening
:silly:Randomness
:unsure:Lucky channel (or whatever)
Karaoke
:w00t:Sold. Too bad its ending, but better for it to end than to drag on.
-
It had a good ending,I'll bet that ADV Films will buy it
-
I tried watching it guys, I really did, but…
Terrible.
-
I saw the two first episodes of it, and I stopped. Actually I can't see why this show is popular in content, though I really agree that the characters are cute and all. However, if I want to see cuteness and well-done humor I prefer to watch Dr. Slump.
-
It's very depressing to get into a series and then it ends the next week.
-
Sigh, the series is over.
Oh well at least they left us with this dance
-
I saw the two first episodes of it, and I stopped.
Same here, but I gave it another chance, and checked out a few later episodes. Seriously, episode 1 and 2 suck compared to the rest. Try watching episode 10 or something. (Though I'm mostly recommending that one for the very last scene in it…)
-
Had to watch a few episodes for a project on another site…and I just didn't get it. It was just "moe for moe-sake" while being very Jarmusch-esque and overreliant on its previous successes and pop culture references. (not to mention particularly the moeness just got overboard with the teachers and that stupid "Lucky Channel" segment) Think I'll just stick with Azumanga Daioh.
-
The theme song to this show is somewhat catchy. Other than that I don't like this show. To each his or her own though.
Wouldn't it be cool if Bon Clay, Leeron and Ms. Aki danced to this song in school girl outfits? That would be hilarious if not disturbing too.
-
I still think Shiraishi WON HARD Lucky Channel 21….
-
@ DougyDougyGiro!*, sorry for the delay. Tokoro Ataru gave me the opportunity and I've avoided this topic for fear of being tempted into trolling.
@Tokoro:

Lucky Star is a horrible show (in my view) for the following reasons:
1. The sickening amount of product placement and viral marketing (Haruhi) obvious and sutble to the viewer. Seriously, when people derive laughs like, "omg a reference to HAH-ROO-HEE in a kawaii moe-moe anime! I had NO idea KyotoAni were the same geniuses behind both shows!! ^O^;;" it's time for people to dump the Sprite and stop going to Hot-topic. ¬¬
This is the number one reason I hate the show, and the only one that transcends subjective taste. It's no different from a twenty two minute long commercial, and it makes no effort to creative or with its advertising unlike something people have slammed in the past like I-Robot.
When a big-breasted Haruhi in a bathing suit tells the viewer to buy a certain soft drink, and people interpret it as a hillarious joke, it would seem the internet fandom has degraded beyond what some call "common stupidity" and are exhibiting symptoms of the lobotomized.
2. The "desirable" portrayal of otaku culture. If I were a citizen of Japan, I sure as heck would probably hate LS for glorifying the otaku lifestyle and promoting on a national level a derisive blight on the industrious image of Japan that took fifty years to build. Idealizing a life of a sloven slob, the potential rape victim, the social inept, and moral degenerate? Ugh.
But that is hypothetical, I have no grounds to criticize it. What I should criticize are the weeaboo who idealize that same culture. It's one thing to live in Japan and like it. It's another to live in another country and create an artificial cultural cringe out of bordom and to long for the exotic. Especially when that life is fake and counter-productive to a successful career and life.
That's all the ELC needs, weeaboo evolving into NEETs and wotaku.
3. Art/animation. Yeah, I'm not sure where people get that Lucky Star is well drawn, it's pretty ugly with all the girls as perpetual lolis with droopy eyes like they've been snorting crack and twig-thin limbs that one normally wouldn't think of seeing outside of the hunger-stricken countries of Africa.
Animation-wise, LS is inferior to almost everything else kicked out by Kyoto Animation, and can't even match Code Geass in terms of frame rate, let alone Gurren-Lagann. There are some nice shots now and then, like Anime Tenchou going nuts or the dance in the beginning, but those moments are far and few. Normally, the movement in LS is restricted to slight facial changes done quickly and cheaply through Macromedia Flash.
4. Jokes. Pretty subjective here, but I don't find random/mundane/deadpan stuff to be really funny. Nagasarete Airantou, Seto no Hanayome and even Hayate no Gotoku are much funnier and have plots that don't melt at room temperature. Seto and Hayate are also parody/homage shows like LS, and both manage to not make the parodies the actual focus of the jokes, they're just there to be cool. As in, "if you get it, it's twice the lulz, if you don't, you haven't missed anything".
When people have to have the Getter 2 joke explained to them before they can laugh, I face-palm. So much fail…
As I see it, the only reason people like the show are the reasons three:
1. Catchy OP (personally, I thought the song was horrible and still do, but I can see why it can be catchy).
2. KYOTOANI
3. Fappable, paedolicious moe-moe girls....
All in all, there are some good parts, like the Lucky Channel segment (sometimes), Anime Tenchou (not surprisingly, a large number of LS fans hate him and his segments) and Sebastian being himself. But when the main "story" isn't even the selling point, with the few entertaining parts pretty weak most of the time, I won't hesistate to call this a really bad show and would never recommend it to anyone. It's right up there with Darks and RAG as one of the worst "meme" related material ever, and I'm thankful as heck it'll be wiped from recent memory with its ending.
-
Wow Terek. You don't just hate Lucky Star, but have a strong, intricate almost pathological hatred for it.
I don't like the show either, but… wow, just wow. Those are valid and interesting reasons for hating it though. O_O So much detail.
You have to admit (and you did too) that the opening theme is catchy. Annoying, yet catchy.
To be fair, I once made a detailed reason for why I hated Loonatics. That was way back when I used to be a member on GameFAQs (shame on me).
-
I thought this anime was pretty good and bad at the same time.
The first few episodes bored the hell outta me but it picks up…Loved the last episode.
"I don't understand your hard Nippon words!"
-
Hm those are some valid points. But I think it's eh I can ignore most of the stuff except for when they put that raspy queer-man voice. I cringe at hearing it. ( I dunno if anyone caught it.)
How can anyone find that song catchy? The kinnikuman first op is catchy or cha la head cha la.
I dunno if I should finish this.
-
I don't really know what to think about Lucky Star. I've watched a few episodes from the beginning and I'm still undecided if I like it or not. So far, all the talking and neuroses of the main characters remind of kinda of an animated Seinfeld cast.
-
For me it was something like this:
-
Terek should go back to masturbating to Cowboy Bebop with his first class tower shield raised to its defense.
-
I'm still waiting for a "Contest" episode.
(…Was that statement too loli?)
-
@Cyringohn:

I've never fapped, actually. Heck, I didn't even know how to until I went to Yotsuba. >_>
You really should have some up with something a bit more original, though. A standard "cry moar" is almost too convenient a retort.

I've heard that comparison made before, actually. There's even a copy-pasta of it somewhere. Hold.
…
I'm sorry to say I have FAILED HARD, sorry. Maybe you could have better luck finding it. =|
Starts off with "Konata's like me without the funny".
-

Look deep inside and ask yourself, did we really need to know that?
-

Sorry, the massive amount of unnecessary text describing a simple show based on a FOUR PANEL COMIC STRIP must have blown out a fuse in Gohn's brain or something.
"I SAY, THIS 'PEANUTS' SHOW IS RATHER BARBARIC!"
-

Heh, I don't care for your needs!
@Cyringohn:

That's why I wrote so much.
Most of what I dislike about the anime is from the involvement of Kyoto Animation. There might be stuff in the source I wouldn't take a fancy toward (I don't like "otaku" shows in general such as Genshiken or N.H.K. for example) but I don't find either nearly as offensive as this show.
-
My overall thoughts of the series~
What I saw~
What I expected~
:wassat:
What I got~
:ninja:Overall, I dont like it in the level of some active weaboo 4chan troll like going, "OMG, HARUHI WAZ IN DA EPS!!11!1 LOL LOL1!1" But JUST liked it, somewhat, for some reason. Not for the culture refferences or the wotaku weaboo references but, I dont know. Just liked it, no reason needed.
-
Yeah… I dislike Lucky Star as much as the next guy get getting that worked up about it is pretty silly.
-
Well, just to make a point, I JUST like it, not get WORKED over it, that's all I'm saying.
-
@Daisuke:

That's the same way I feel about it.

yeah except that wasn't directed to you
at all
-
@Carter: Oh, my bad
Now then, I'm sure Terek, though his heavy hate for the series, though potential liking for this character, ought to get a kick of this DVD cover…
-

Starts off with "Konata's like me without the funny".
I'm not surprised. To me, there's just this atmosphere of yammering on and on about "nothing" and the main characters being allowed to be just as neurotic as they want.
Watched a few more episodes and I think kinda like this. I'm not really familiar with "weeaboo" used as an internet term (outside of Gurewich's comics, that is) or otakuism in general, but I guess that's a good thing, since that doesn't affect my viewing?
-

Personally I haven't seen too much on otaku culture outside "Otaku no Video" which is more a fictionalized version of the early days of Gainax. (and even then I was more interested in the story than the stupid live-action scenes showing these pathetic people) But in Lucky Star, it just seemed like they wanted to be as hip and otaku as possible while appealing to the "moe" denomination. To me, its like people are treating it like the second coming of Azumanga Daioh…but I just see it more like a fusion of "Stranger than Paradise" and "Family Guy" (which BTW, I really can't stand, either in its content or its fans) combined with Moe-girls.
And its not like a four-panel story can't work in animated form or as a manga. It may have different rules but you can make it work. Likewise you really can't bring "Peanuts" into the whole equation because there is a great difference between that and Lucky Star...and I'm not even talking about culturally. Schultz in his prime (from the late '50s to the early '70s) was a master of bringing philosophies and life to the characters...before Snoopy made the whole series a tad too cartoonish. (OK, I still loved Woodstock but from about the mid-70s...maybe even up to the early 80s, the series really went downhill) Lucky Star, at least from what I've known of it, is more about trying to think about school stuff combined with stuff that they see with cultural resonance.
(BTW: I really don't have a right to be here due to only seeing three episodes, but the hype and the responses since my post made me say this)
-
I find this show just a way to kill time.
In addition, that was a pretty sucky ending.
-
I find this show just a way to kill time.
But isn't that just what all anime/video games/manga is?
-
WHAT THE FUCK
-
@Daisuke:
WHAT THE FUCK
A GTA video game with Kamagi and Tsukasa shooting Pikachus 0_0
-
I just finished this today after having it on hold for a while. Good show to watch just to have fun. Great characters and pretty enjoyable overall. I hope for a second season.
-
@Really:

The second season was episode 13 - 24, (Proof: Lucky Channel, episode 13.) so you should hope for a THIRD season. And really, I don't see how that could work, unless they made Yutaka and the other first-years the main characters. And I do not want to see another season with a different cast. Seriously, whenever a show switches it's main cast, it ALWAYS seems to drop in quality at the same time.
Now, would a decent dubbing-company please pick up the show? I want it on DVD…
-

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure says otherwise.

Does this show have a neck.
Is this neck small enough to fit in my hands. -

No, I'm not a Lucky Star fan.

According to this review of the fourth volume of Haruhi, Kadokawa USA is going to release Lucky Star in america next year. Sure hope that's true… Who else thinks that they're going to follow the japanese and hire Haruhi's voiceactor to do Konata's voice? -
Sources in AS confirmed the rumor, it's actually true.
-
@Daisuke:

AS? The only thing I can think of when you say that is Adult Swim, and I don't see why they would know that. But I'll believe what you say for the pure reason that I want LS to be released on DVD, and the Haruhi-DVDs are pretty good, so Kadokawa USA having the liscence is fine by me. (Though, the fact that they started releasing them in chronological order, and then started doing the broadcast-order as a bonus from volume 2 and out was kinda stupid, but we won't have to deal with that here, as Lucky Star WASN'T aired in a strange, seemingly random order.) Hope they'll have some similar extras for the Lucky Star DVDs too, or to be specific, I hope they'll add soundtracks and single-CDs as bonuses, which was pretty much the main reason I decided to get the limited version of the Haruhi-sets.
