Leveling to 70 can be done at your own pace.
However, once you hit 70 and need to start raiding, you're going to have to dedicate 4-5 hours at a time to raiding, as most serious guilds raid for about 4-5 hours straight, with a few breaks between bosses and the like. And they usually do this 4+ times a week. Often more.

Most serious WoW players dedicate all their free time to the game.
But yeah, 4-5 hour raiding periods is very common and expected of any serious raiders.
TO put it in perspective, I am a level 47 fire mage(It's hard for me to solo, I'm a group spec, and a group player) who has put roughly 16 hours of time into playign this character, for maybe only a total of 20 hours of playing. I am slow at leveling, and have been playing on and on for nearly 2 years, having only been a subscribe maybe 6 months in total. I play, get bored, log off, and do the same either later or tomorrow. FOr isntances I can stay entertained much longer, and will happily complete any instance. A run from the beginning to the Witchdoctor in Zul'Farrak, not killing every single mob, but most of them, and about 1/2 the scarabs along the way, including theo nes in the scarab room, I managed to complete 25% of level 47, and have 75% of my total XP needed left to reach level 48.
If I wanted I could probably get to 90% of my XP today.
Also, I can't play while using BitTorrent, so that factors in a bit. I'm downloading the new KF episode(s) right now, which I missed when it was posted 5 days ago.
Gear second deceives you, 16-20 hours of gameplay at level 47 is a lie. Even the fastest of players won't hit level 20 anywhere before 10 hours of game play. Average first timers spend roughly a day of game time to hit 20.
It's amazing how much time you can burn playing WoW. When I first started playing I didn't think I could ever spend more than 2.5 hours, but there has been times when I've played for like 5. And regret it.

If someone says "oh it's gay" it usually means "I think it sucks because I had a bad experience which was really my fault, not [what was said to be "gay"]" So it's probably alright actually.
As for PvP gear, I've got some BlizzCon news:
Blizzard is making sets for PvP which look similar to, but different than, the PvE gear, and will have different stats. IE you might have Warrior Tier 6, but the PvE one might be red while the PvP version is blue. They want it so you know they've worked for it, and to know it's equivalent, but the different color schemes and slight armor changes are there so a quick glance is enough to go "Oh he belongs to a really hardcore raiding guild" or "hey, he must really PvP a LOT and be good at it!"
So PvP will be a truly viable option in rankings and such aren't a good enough reward. This way you don't have to feel like you need to PvE in order to have good enough gear to compete in PvE.

I meant days actually.
2 hours is enough time to get from level 1-10 if you're fast. Double that for a newbie who understands kinda what to do. triple that for your normal newbie rushing through quests. And quadruple for the idiot who takes his time and levels slow.
Of course the rest of the levels are…much more difficult to level through, especially once you reach 48+. I think the saying goes "Leveling from 48-60 wil take as much time and effort as going from levels 1-42".

30-40 was the funnest, <3 STV.

everyone (both factions) i talked to hated lvling in STV. they only came back there to gank (mostly at nesigwarys… if you are new to STW for gods sake stayaway from nesigwarys on pvp servers)
Yeah, Nesingwary's is a favorite target for PVP ganking. Fucking hated that place.
Well, I liekd it the first few levels I played there, but after nearly 8 levels and still plenty of quests, I was getting pretty sick of it, especially since Alliance have no way to get to the lower half easily, it's a long trek with no flightpath. I'd have killed for a flightpath from the rebel camp to BB, but I guess that would have ruined the atmosphere.

I didn't mind STV, but I am on not on a pvp server. I'd probably be paranoid as hell there otherwise. It got me leveled fast and I made some good money.
I think he means a flightpath from BB to the rebel camp. Yeah that is a long run. Easier to fly all the way to darkshire and run down. Thankfully I had a hunter so I could just use cheetah.

I think any base with a flightpath in Northern STV would ruin the atmosphere. But running from Darkshire was a pain too.
Grom'gol, which was in northern STV, had a flight path to Booty Bay. Not sure about Alliance, but figured they'd have one too.
Nope STV is more of a Horde area. All we have is a nessingway sized rebel camp. No Griffin there.
I played horde, so I had grom'gul. Still, I don't get why you guys didn't like it. Sure, there were douchebags that ganked, but that was what made it fun lol. That, and epic battles against people that were actually your own level. The thrill of /bow at enemies and waiting to see what would happen was awesome. >.> Running around and trying to survive was fun too. Although one time I was completely pissed off by a dude that would only wait for me to pull several mobs(protection pally AOEing), then he would stealth (feral druid) on me and gay me.
Going for the chest in the arena at BB is awesome too.

You usually get a blue item, with a chance of a really nice epic axe. You can form a nice trinket too if you gather enough of a certain item from it, I forget what it's called though. It's basically impossible to get as a low level though because all of the high levels take it.
So my 100 hours was quite off the chart…

Mister Anbu: you must be lucky… to be ganked by people acctually leveling in STV. on my server the only gankers were lvl 60 or someone that had a lvl 60 friend with him/her.
the chest: a few chest only items that is good gear for the lvl bracket lvling in STV some random green and pots, but they never get their hands on it.
all the 60s wants to collect 12 arena master tokens to hand in for grand arena master trinket which 1 every hour or 30 min (forgot which) absorbs 1000 or so damage. (loved that trinket)

And I read an interview with Leeroy Jenkins a long time ago, heh. As I recall, they created that video as an advertisement for their guild, but he said while it was staged, it was based off an instance that actually did happen.
nope the goblin drops the chest regardless if there is someone there or not. and no fighting requiredif you are alone. though that was atleast rare (or impossible) while i was still playing.
It's not an instance or anything so I don't see why, but there a zone wide yell so anyone intrested will proberby be waiting.

! Seems death knight is unlocked by questing. Then you make a new death knight who starts out at a high level (like 55+) rather then your guy becoming one.
! Death knights are plate wearers using spells, and DWing or 2handers, and can tank without a shield. Instead of using mana, rage, or energy, he use the runes of the runeblade. Runes come in frost, blood, or unholy. DK's are open to all races though it may damage the rep (I don't think dranaei will be happy about it for one) DK's can summon an "Army of the Dead"!
! The new profession, Inscription is based of the runes. It can give spells special effects. For example fireball can have knockback or more direct damage added to it.

I managed to get some easy to sell vendor trash. I got a blue but the green that was on the bottom, I couldn't get. I died at the same time I clicked it.

Like the first piece of text chat(even though they're using voice chat) is "WIPE TIME!!!!!"
Not to mention the quick calculations by some guy in the group, leading to a repeating number. A couple of sorta jokes thrown in their that, although they fit in, do seem a bit rehearsed.
And on the topic of alts at a higher level, they should just start you at level 10 Once you complete a quest that requires whatever the current max level is. It's about 2 hours of play time skipped, so it's not significant in the long run, and if you already completed a quest at 70, 80, or whatever the current cap is in the future, you already know how to play, and can get right into picking your spec. The only downside is you can't et money, but it's small amounts of copper and any experienced player should have no problem earning the money or sending extra over. One run of a high level instance will earn enough money to get most people from level 1-60 no problem.
I'll bring it up at the next BlizzCon, but so far it seems to be a feature reserved for Death Knights.

No offense or nothin'. Just seems like every female WoW player that Gohn has met mains a Rogue [either that, or a Priest]. And it's usually an Elf too.

Actually the rogue was the 4th character I created, the warrior was my first, then the druid, then the hunter, and then the rogue…I just found that I enjoyed the rogue the most, hence I climbed levels faster.
Being able to stealth past mobs that I don't want to deal with really sells it for me, it really irritates me when I have to kill everything in my path just to get somewhere. And I also really like having a number of escape routes if I get stuck in a bad situation. I HATE DYING.
You're playin' the wrong game then, buddy. WoW is all about killing useless mobs, then realizing that you accomplished nothing since the next expansion pack spits in the face of everything you've done in the past.
Don't really care about dying, s'long as it's not a huge, twisty zone where you can't auto-run to your corpse. Otherwise, dying isn't a problem.
It's really fun to fight Rogues as a Warrior. Mmmmmmmm, tasty Rogues.
There are times that I have wished I could sneak past mobs. Oh well, HOLY DESTRUCTION usually creates paths.
