Takehiko Inoue's adaption of "Musashi", is there anybody on this side of the Prime Maridian who reads it? Seriously. Incredible stuff.
Vagabond

i read it (and for a while scanlated it). It is just too great for words most of the time. I mean the art alone makes the series a must read
-
Go rob ooshi's house if you want to read it. I just returned the whole set to him :O
lol.
Yeah, I fell in love with his drawing. It's rather amazing how Inoue draws better and better. I like his art style.
/me wants to buy Water and Sumi, his two artbooks. -
actually go to ocean's house… all i got back were the covers wrapped around a stack of napkins...
inoue isn't a mangaka, he's an artist.

I remember reading Slam Dunk and just thinking that the final volumes being ridiculously epic. No words, just pure emotions.
And yes, I read Vagabond in Korean until volume 19? 20? Where is it at now? I just remember Kojiro and Takezo owning face.
-
Vagabond. I saw this in Borders the other day, I love how the VIZ version actually has color pages for once, it just sucks it's like $15 a volume. I don't see myself buying it, but I'd love to read it some time.

Actually, today I tried to find Musashi from a library but all the copies were taken. Bummer.
-
Its well worth the 15$ (much like equally expensive Berserk), bot art and eventually plot and character are top notch.
Storywise it starts slow, but somewhere through the ordeal with Inshun it grabs you, and ever after it just really takes you away.Besides look at this juicy shit.
Thats worth the extra 5$.
Of course it also costs every little bit of pride you may have in your own art.

Vagabond is truly on of the best samurai mangas, or mangas in general, to come over the last years. I've always been thrilled by the story about the legendary Japanese swordsman
Miyamoto Musashi and his special sword style consisting of two swords called niten'ichi. And for those of you that wish to know more about him and his teachings, read The Book of Five Rings. It’s easily purchased from amazon or someplace ells.
So I was happy like a penguin on crack when I heard about the manga adaptation of his life. Some things have been changed, but it’s mostly true to the original story. And the art is truly stunning. The manga is currently at the beginning of volume 25 or so (chapter wise), and after what I've read the mangaka (Takehiko Inoue) is currently taking a break for about two weeks.
-
this manga is amazing….
too bad it's not that popular.
-
Its incredibly popular in the east.
But damn are you right in regards to over here…
I can hardly find it at any bookstores, or so much as a single mention of it on any fan level. -
I read this through scans for a while but it dropped off my radar. I need to pick it up the hard copies if just for the art.
-
Does anyone know if Viz will every reprint the earlier volumes for their "Viz Signature" line? I've been wanting to start reading this but if they do I'd rather wait so I can have a matching set.
-
They look similar enough, beleive me I'm a stickler for that and it dosen't bother me.
-
might have to give this a look into
runs off to lurk
-
Vagabond is the best edited Viz manga that I've seen so far. I wish Viz will do something this good for other titles too.
The US ShonenJump series are pretty poorly edited compared to Vagabond.

Alright cool, I guess I'll pick up volume 1 the next time I see it then. I just worry because I hate it when I buy a book/graphic novel and they come out with a new edition that looks much better 3 weeks later (curse you Batman:Year One hardcover).
-
gah yesterday i wanted to buy vol 1 but they had from vol 2 to vol 23. shit.
-
You don't..you don't even know.
I go to one bookstore after I got 1-7 after not finding 8.
They now got 8, but no 9.
Next place they got 9 but no 10, so this time I wait, cuz I wanna buy in bulk.
Then (all that was on a trip to Cape Cod) I go home, now they got 10-infinte or whatever, but they DON'T HAVE 9 WITHIN ANY REACH OF WHERE I LIVE.
0_0ADVICE: You cany Buy volumes 14 through 20 at any time you really want. Its the story of Musashi's rival to be. So its not really skipping ahead.
-
I got the bunch of volumes when they came out. It was cool how the price gradually dropped to $10 and stuff. But like pretty much all other manga, I kinda stopped keeping and and technically got out of it. Someday though….since it's the best job Viz has done imo, and manages to kick a great amount of ass even if Inoue lost heart and it's half composed of a bunch of faces staring at each other.
-
forgot where I was
it was the dojo with the really big Staff / Spears and I can't remember the volume
-
Volumes 4-8?
Personally the recent volumes (21+) are above and beyond anything the early ones could even comprehend.
They're like sequential art orgasms now. -
Are they still ten minutes a volume?
-
can't stop reading….too much win.......*goes to check if vol 9 is finished...
-
Are they still ten minutes a volume?
Eh?
You mean his big panels?
What volumes were you last at? -
Last I read I believe was nine, and I'm sure that was even a while before this thread.
-
You aint seen nothing yet.
Your stopped right as it was swinging upwards.
3 more books and annoying young brash Musashi dies forever.
And given enough time you get the Musashi in my avatar. -

I actually like that Musashi. I peaked around vol. 21 when it came out and stuff, too. I saw a LOT of the deaf guy in the glimpses.
My only complaint is that there's like a speech bubble every three pages.
-
I like the "silence" though. He's been paying attention to mood recently.
The only regrets Vagabond wise Iv'e had since like book 10 is the way he chose to end the Kojiro arc, two straight books of pretty much pointless fighting…...hooray. -
ZOMG hes becoming Magical
-
… ... .......
What?
-
NO IMAGEVENUE!!!!!! one sec
EDIT:
(well at least that what it looks like to me)
-
Where did you get that?
-
from the Ritual Scan Forge

this has chapters
but about the WSJ section is a link to their forums which as a thread dedicated to Colour manga pages / spreads throughout the month
-
Holy-
Did Musashi just cut off the side of Ueda's head??
-
yeah that's what he did… and i was pretty sure he wouldn't act dumb and leave this place peacefully. but i suppose the plot is to compare how well musashi will handle this situation compared to how kojiro fought till the end of the night in a similar situation.
-
This situation happend historically.
The school ganged up on him en masse after he defeated thier leaders.
And it certainly happend in the novel this is sorta based off. -
And given enough time you get the Musashi in my avatar.
I hope he has a better coloring scheme then
-
Hey! Its hard to match a samurai with the Beastie Boys.
-
2 new chapters out.
Musashi is rampaging through the Yoshioka.Ueda's fate is unknown.
But Musashi killed Horikawa (the ten swords guy with the moustache). -
yeah that was a nice 2 pager

But Musashi killed Horikawa (the ten swords guy with the moustache).! Ueda is dead snif  snif
Now the other 69 and it's done ahahahahahaha bye bye Yoshioka
I can't wait the moment he will draw his 2 swords and begin to invent his nittouryuAnd BTW ch 227 raw is out some time ago; you can read Zindryr's trans on mangahelpers.
Alé ciao
PS: Go read Vagabond if you still didn't –> You miss alot!
-
We don't know if
! Ueda's dead.. for sure…
-
This is from Zindryr's trans :
! 確かに総大将を斬ったが続けるのか・・・?
I've just slain your leader, do you plan to continue the fight…?
! 七十人斬らねば済まんのか やはり・・・?
Or must I kill all seventy of you to end this...?
! --> I think he's dead --> in the novel Musashi kills the new boss of the yoshioka first ; in the manga it's Ueda so logically he is been slain first. -
So I freaking love this series. I have read the first 3 volumes of it, and it's pretty much one of the best series I've read in a while.
I was reading the musashi novel today at borders and was actually surprised how the manga changed the first part of it, like tensai was actually strong in the book, and not how takezo (later to be musashi) pretty much killed him in 3 pages. I was expecting to be some differences do to time wise, but in the book Takezo seems a lot nicer in the beginning. It was kind of weird.
-
If you love the first three, your going to orgasm over the rest.
Theres alot of other changes between the two. Its hardly n adaption so much as a reinterpretation.

Well that's a little dissapointing. Is the monk still just as badass as he was in the manga?
-
228 is out.
Man There are 4/10 Yoshioka top guys left.
-
I'm gonna spice up this motherfucker.
Here's the tragic tale of the Yoshioka.
