That fight was equal they hit each other the same amount of times, the were as damaged as each other and they didn't show signs of weariness.

Ok whats harder becoming the strongest man in the world or creating world peace? These are completely different objectives to be the PK you have to find one piece and to be the strongest swordsman you have to beat mihawk.

Whitebeard has the title yes and he has that title because he is the closest to One Piece and he tied Gold Roger. In general I don´t like the one-dimensional character of most power/strongest discussion, I feel it doesn´t really fit the unique abilities and fighting styles in One Piece.
For the Whitebeard thing I´m quite sure that he will no longer hold his "title" at the end of the saga. The next generations are lining up and they seem quite confident (Shanks, BB, Mihawk, Luffy) Things are in a flow right now.

Of course not. But bear in mind that even Zoro said he wasn't about to fight Lucchi to the crew. In raw strength, they're equal, but the Gears put Luffy on a level far above any other Strawhat. For chrissakes, he blew up a giant battleship with Gear 3rd, something I doubt Zoro could do.

How does Luffy's Gears put him above Zoro? All they do is increase speed and strength yet Luffy is ALWAYS sacrifcing one for the other (Not too mention he exausts himself quicker) and getting his butt whalloped at the same time.?:wassat: Yet Zoro REMAINS Balanced and can take it to the next level when he has to. Zoro could probably cut a batleship given the chance.

Tekkai is what caused that fight to continue, otherwise it would have ended within minutes.
Compare the kaku fight with any other of zoros fights, can you see the difference? If not don't bother answering I haven't got time to waste.

Well Oda says they are equal there is no gambling required. They fought and tied, they are constantly compared in power and oda's stats say they are equal.
So instead of choosing who is stronger oda will just give luffy the strongset opponent, even though zoro is also capable of beating him. Which will fool all of you into thinking he's stronger. While oda feels the satisfaction knowing 10% of his fans will understand they are still equal.
EDIT. FFA gear 3 is far too slow to hit zoro and zoro's lion song is too slow to hit luffy. These two techniques have both destroyed/cut steel but would be worthless in a fight between the two.
Also zoro has proven he is able to keep up or go even faster than soru, so gear 2 would still be equal against zoro.
Don´t you guys forget that all your "facts" and "ties" and "charts" were before gear2 and asura, this is an ongoing show, things change anytime and Oda is good at keeping things unclear at the "power"-front (douriki really gave me the shivers). When things become to clear /primitive the downfall is near, just look at DBZ.

First of all you don't know if it's roughly or not and in most cases characters only have 6 different stats, unless we're talking rpg where they have around ten.

No wasn't equal to luffy usopp devised a plan to exploit luffys weaknesses (which failed miserably) luffy got past the gimicks hit him and it was over. Zoro and luffy took many hots and just kept going.
Oh and one more thing luffy said he was going to kill zoro and snapped, the fight with usopp was a duel. There was no intention to kill, so luffy and zoro were at 100% in that fight, actually trying to kill each other they state it.

To be PK you need one piece, whitebeard has been searching for 22 years and hasn't found it. That tells me it's very difficult to find.
To be the best swordsman you just need to surpass mihawk.

I don't think you can say that the captain is always stronger then the crew. Rank is not about combat abilities alone, in fact in the real world that definately would not be the case. Take BB he was stronger then that 3rd commander he killed. Remenber Mr. 4? It was stated that his combat abilities were superior to Mr. 3 but hes just too stupid. Cabaji and Mohji (sp?) were basically equal but Mohji was higher ranked. Zoro is not captain because he never had the intention of being captain.
I've always had the feeling that Luffy thought of Zoro as his equal. In fact if you read some parts of the manga where he mentions Zoro it sounds like that (too lazy to find the chapters). Also I think that when they did the 300 pound cannon attack against the aqua laguana to me that just seemed like it was shouting EQUAL.
The path to PK is harder no doubt but its only logical. Think about it when you aiming to become the best swordsman you basically only have to beat the worlds greatest. Also most of your opponents are only swordsmen.
Now on the path to being PK your gonna have the world government constantly chasing after your ass. The Government is ok with the existence of Strongest swordsman but not PK. Also you have to obtain so much more, for example wealth, a powerful crew, captain responsibilities, etc. Conquering the New world and obtaining One Piece is probaly hella hard too.

Seems to me luffy is stonger than all other membercrews, because he is a captain so why would some weakling become a captain while there are stronger people around

So you really try to say that Luffys and Zoros "strength" hasn´t changed since then? This is beyond … everything I could have imagined.
Their strength has obviously gone up, only an idiot wouldn't know that. But their value is 6 and that isn't a fixed strength limit, it's their strength level. Showing they are on a different level to normal men.
e.g At first zoro lifted a cage while his guts were pouring out and luffy lift the support of kuros ship (while hypnotised). Now these are incredible feats of strength compared to the normal man.
As the series goes on that strength just improves but they are still equal. Zoro threw a giant concrete building at mr1 and with the use of a hand he managed to cut most of a building to get out of a chimney. While luffy pushed two buildings apart to free himself. They also combined to equal forces to bust through aqua laguna.
Now if you can't see the strength comparisons they are constantly put through you're blind.
Sanji has never shown a feat of strength of that caliber, people who go by douriki thinking sanji equals zoro need brain surgery.
Or that Oda is obsessed with those crappy merchandise databooks and would run to reflect every change in them? (we would be bombarded with at least ten databooks over the year:blink:)
Well he's making the yellow book in april so he must like to use them. Hopefully it will clear up this debate, by showning their current stats.

And Ace was BB superior yet BB beat him in a fight..
And Pirate King is harder than best swordsman because to be the best swordsman you just have to be able to beat anybody that comes at you saying they are a swordsman..
To be Pirate King you have to be above all other pirates, find one piece, and most of all build and command a extremely powerful crew..

If their strength had changed Oda would bring out more data books, it means Oda doesn't feel the need to clarify anything because it is already clarified.

First of all you don't know if it's roughly or not and in most cases characters only have 6 different stats, unless we're talking rpg where they have around ten.
The thing is that they have changed over time. And strength isn't the only thing that is imprtant in a fight.

If I were in command of some soldiers stronger than myself I'd still want to get stronger to help protect them. This is utter crap luffy just cares about his nakama and wants to be able to protect them.

No wasn't equal to luffy usopp devised a plan to exploit luffys weaknesses (which failed miserably) luffy got past the gimicks hit him and it was over. Zoro and luffy took many hots and just kept going.

No I expect one when 2 characters have been equal throughout the whole series and suddenly they aren't equal anymore. In april there will be a new data book that will hopefully answer the questions

Luffy thought zoro killed the whole town for no reason and snapped, he threw all logic out of the window and saw zoro as an enemy.

What's up nothing to back up your claims? I've also backed up my claims to the latest chapters they are equal until Oda says otherwise.
Man the second i see Zoro coming and beating Lucci is when i will agree with you till then Luffy is the strongest. If anything Zoro and Sanji are more equal then Luffy and Zoro
