Coming from someone who regularly charms everyone he meets
Heheheheheh. I think you just helped RedGreenBlue pick his subclass.

Coming from someone who regularly charms everyone he meets, I would hate you.
Oh, you're such a flirt.
Speaking of foiling DM plans, 11 levels from now my Monster Slayer ranger can cancel out teleports. Can't wait for us to fuck up a Rakshasa's day.
Should we use this thread to establish some session 0 guidelines? Or would you rather do it in voice chat?
I myself have never done a session 0 but I figure it's stuff like:
Well, I'm all for having that discussion here. Also, thanks for the suggestions, guys.
I'm definitely leaning toward half elf conqueror paladin, now. Might go variant human if feats are allowed, though.
Would also love to multiclass into warlock if possible.
Alright, let me answer my own prompts then.
- how many sessions/levels will this be // is it open-ended?
-> Not up to me but interesting to know
- are there any house rules? (the luck roll thing, feats? multiclassing?)
-> I'd like feats and multiclassing to be options but I could also do without
- how do people feel about potential inner-party conflict?
-> I'd probably like to keep this to a minimum considering it's my first game. I'm talking about bloodshed though, not simple arguing.
- is this supposed to be more on the serious and gritty side or more happy-go-lucky?
-> I'm expecting the latter but either one is fine
- should we expect the usual monster to go for the kill on unconscious people?
-> I'd prefer not to die immediately but as long as I know beforehand, I can act accordingly
- is a frog lizard superior to a lizard wizard?
-> Superior is such a strong word
- …
-> :sideways::sideways::sideways:
The Great and Powerful Shuhan mentioned doing something of a Session 0, so this will probably be part of that.
Anyways, my ranger is Variant Human but took a feat to get expertise in Nature, which should tell you exactly how combat-optimized he is. I can step it up if other people are but I'd rather not.
I'm also against any serious inter-party conflicts. If the Rogue makes a public check to swipe some extra gold when we're dividing poor, that's fine. If the Rogue is passing notes to steal my personal loot while my character sleeps, or sets anyone up to get killed or something, that's not.

Sorry Huschel, got a little busy today
1)I have no set amount of sessions, especially since life can interfere at anytime. Lvls however will most likely be capped at 20, but I am willing to hear against that
other than luck, components for spells, hunger, tedious stats like that I won't enforce. As long as you have spells prepared and know them, cast away as long as you have the slots to use.
how you interact is up to you. I am flexible with how you run your characters and will do my best to conform the story to unexpected issues( that and I love groups that are dysfunctional, but don't let me form your actions)
it will be a mix of dark and humerous. Serious 24/7 is just not fun to me.
at this point, I cannot answer that
Frog Wizard

I'm assuming no "no" on feats means "yes". Variant human it is, then.
I'm assuming no "no" (…) means "yes".
Does it though? :ninja:

Aaaanyway. I don't have intentions to minmax my character but gosh, it's harder than I thought. The backstory helps.

Yes to feats, just to be consistent.
So…this Sunday, Sunday, Sunday? Or not yet?
Edit: Wait, never mind. I actually can't this week. Unless you want to start in the morning. :P But I can keep my Sundays free from now on.
I think we can wait one more week, I still have to help my ladyfriend with her charater anyhoo~
This Sunday is unideal for me anyway.
What's she gonna be, Shuhan? Wizard? Warlock? Monk?
Yeah, I definitely cannot do this Sunday, but next Sunday looks good.
She isn't sure what she wants, so we have been going over some classes and races. This is her first foray into DnD so she needs a crash course.

Yeah, I definitely cannot do this Sunday
So how does next sunday, 1/20/19 at 12:00 PM EST sound to everyone for our first session?
Works for me :)
Sounds good. How long do you expect a session to be?
Sounds good. How long do you expect a session to be?
Well, I was thinking at least 2-3 hours. If it goes longer Im not opposed but I guess that is up to you, you'll be playing in nightime so how long would it work for you?
12 is a bit early for me- can we push it back an hour?
1:00 PM EST is fine with me, was just going for early enough for Huschel
I'm game, especially when I know beforehand. With that starting time, 3 hours should be no problem and a little longer should be possible.
1:00 pm EST works for me.
1pm is perf.
I have prepared my spells. :ninja:

Nice! What service/website did you use?
Nice! What service/website did you use?
I found them here. And then I just sleeved them up with Magic cards.
Okay. So we have established Airdi wants to be a glass cannon…oh boy
So we have a:
Barbarian
Bard
Cleric
Paladin
Ranger
Undetermined Glass Cannon
I dunno, that seems decently balanced to me.
She is going to be a Gith Sorcerer, just have to roll her stats and she will be happy.

Oh, we will set this world afire. In the name of Lathander. :ninja:
So the plan is to use a Discord voice channel, right? Will it be on the AP discord somewhere or will you sent us a link? I just wanna feel ready XD
Shuhan#7393
That's my discord, just friend me and Ill create the room~
Sorry, IRL has been hectic (going to a Panic! Concert~) so I've been busy.
I made the room, if you haven't gotten the invite let me know here.

So here's the skinny... I woke up this morning with literally no voice and a high fever. Im currently at work, but I am literally a mute zombie. Considering I really need a voice for Discord DnD stuff and I really want a character voice for my npcs...would it be alright to postpone till next sunday at 1:00 pm?
I really am sorry ><;
No worries. I'm absolutely fine with waiting until next week, taking care of yourself is more important, dude. And now I have enough time to read over the basics
That's okay, Shuhan! Feel better, hope this doesn't interfere with your concert plans.
Next week is totally fine for me. I'll try to get a character sheet together tomorrow and send it to you.
Feel better soon! :)
We are on for tomorrow, I repeat, we are on for tomorrow!
If you havent made a discord and friended me, do so!

Sorry, IRL has been hectic (going to a Panic! Concert~) so I've been busy.
Just for reference
Thanks for DMing, Shuhan! It's hard with so many people, but you did great. :)
Seconded. You did a great job and it was a fun session. :D
Thirded. 110% worth the wait.
Also, because I am the absolute worst at remembering stuff, would it be alright if everyone wrote down their character's name, race, and class here or on the discord before our next session?
Thank you, Shuhan. That was a lot of fun.
Speaking of names, I wrote down soooome notes. Feel free to correct or add, everyone.
Airdi: Airdi, Gith Sorcerer, 6'2" darker-grey skin, Xena outfit, hoochy skirt, knee high boots, only cares about money
Anthony/AJC08012: Tortuga Backbreaker, Tortle Paladin, one of the worst paladins ever
Crysum36: Kelvin Silverspring, Human Fighter, probably the greatest polearm fighter in these parts
Huschel: Taleron Brightfist, Cleric, wants to rebuild his guild
Jabberwok: Human Ranger
No Swords: Rocks Stonejaw, Goliath Barbarian
RedGreenBlue: Samson, Paladin, used to be a slave in the colleseum, good at guarding, one of the worst paladins ever
Me: Drensaw, Human Bard, grew up in a circus, left because of family drama, philosopher who believes knowledge is power and wishes to uncover the secrets of the multiverse, gold eyes, auburn hair
Session 1 - Of nets and natural 1s
! So here's what's what. We come to our senses in darkened prison cells. Each one of us finds themselves behind bars facing each other in a big round room. The entity in the center of the room appears to be our jailer. After a crossbow bolt fired at him doesn't impress him too much, some magic does the trick and our new Friend happily lets us know that his name is Faust. That can't be good. Also, we appear to be deceased. But anyway, you probably wonder how we got into this situation. It all began when…
! Cue the flashback
! ...we entered the Iron Sphincter. That's the name of a pub, thanks to missing notes and audience participation. Some drinking and arm-wrestling later, we get offered a job by this lady named Mavis. Her cargo has gone missing including the people transporting it and she offers every single person 700 gold pieces upfront and more to come. A suspiciously high amount of money. Everybody's in. For various reasons but mostly gold. So here's where everybody introduced themselves in-game so I will try to do the same. But it was a lot all at once and I was glad I could figure out everybody's names. Maybe :P
! Our group of adventures consists of :
! Airdi (?), the Gith Sorcerer (?) with a rich character-driven story arc to unfold in the future
Drensaw, the Human Bard with no interest in money
Kelvin Silverspring, the Human Fighter, formerly a gladiator and nowadays stillusing nets
Professor Marlow, the Ranger (?) but his friends just call him Marlow
Rox Stonejaw, the Barbarian whose favorite pastime appears to be grinding goblins into a fine powder
Samson, the Human Paladin, as quick on his feet as he is on his back
Tolrand Brightfist, the Dwarf Cleric, always ready to give help to those who don't need it
! Anyway, we're rich, time to go shopping. After some armor upgrades and a night's sleep in the pub, the group sets out to find the missing cargo. Soon thereafter, they find a turtle man lying on his back on the side of the road. They help him up and decide to keep him:
! Tortuga Backbreaker, the Tortle Paladin with abs of steel
! With this newly acquired companion, it doesn't take our heroes long to get ambushed by a bunch of goblins. Thanks to fantastically low initiative roles, it looks like this flashback will be much shorter than expected. But not to worry. The two paladins will save the day! Samson rolls a nat 1 for his net attack and naturally lands on his back. Oh my! Still, Tortuga can defeat these monsters! Oh, what's that? A nat 1? Tortuga is also lying prone in front of a goblin? Fantastic! Somehow, the group manages to dispose of 6 goblins anyway and catches another one in a gladiator net. But not before our Ranger rolls another nat 1 and convinces himself that there's an ostrich hiding in the bushes. The goblin can be convinced to point us towards some footsteps and gets executed for his trouble. The prints may or may not be of an ostrich (they're not).
! And so endeth the session.

I had the same idea but instead I decided to 'publish' what I got. :P
It's Samson! And he was the one who used to be the gladiator slave.
Other than that, fine scribing~
I see. Fixed that. :)
Great job, Shuhan! I'd like to get combat flowing a little faster but I'm sure that will come with everyone getting a little more familiar.
And for reference, my character is one Professor Engelverry Marlow, Human Ranger, currently on administrative leave from a university and looking for funding to continue his biological research.
