Hokay!
Boy, you sure showed them!
Get over it. It's an action game set in the Metal Gear saga, it's all good.
Wasn't Metal Gear about the Plot and resolved around themes like Freedom, peace, genetics, war, censorship, internet contro and the charactersl. Showing Raiden fighting after the end of SOP is a middle finger to MGS4 ending. The original idea of having the game set between 2 and 4 was a great idea and still felt like a Metal Gear game.
@Zack Platinium knocked the wrong door and should have went to Crapcom to make Dmc 5.

I think you're taking this franchise too seriously, that's like being mad at Street Fighter 2010 for Nintendo where Ken is a cyborg bounty hunter and everyone else is dead.
Wait, this is being developed by Platinum Games?
Fuuuuuuuuck. Okay, I'm sold.

Kojima let the game get rewritten because he wasn't big on the original idea so take it up with him.

If Platinum Games was a developer established in the West and if Capcom weren't trying to branch out by letting Western Developers work on their franchises as was their motivation for letting Ninja Theory hand DmC then they would've and Rising would've gotten canceled instead Kojima letting Platinum handle development of it.
So is the dynamic cutting mechanic still in? That's really the only thing about this game that interests me.
Not really interested but its a spinoff so I don't mind really.

Sure is, the trailer I posted last night shows it fully in action.
Not even remotely trying to side with Sanji here…. I am in no way am as big of a Metal Gear fan as I used to be.
But this might be too corny.... even for me.
Platinum Games being corny/cheesy is half their charm.
Didn't MadWorld do poorly in sales? I feel that game is underrated.
I never finished that one - don't think I've gotten past the castle part.
Anyways, the latest trailer at least makes the game seem better in my eyes (it feels a bit more like a Metal Gear game, at least).
You can never have enough cheese.
@Mr.:

Well it was on the Wii.
Well it was on the Wii.
I'm afraid that doesn't make as much sense as you think it does.
Granted, Wii isn't well known for "hardcore" games, but just because it's released to that console doesn't mean it's going to be underrated for sure.

Well, the series is pretty much over since 4. There is nothing much to crave and wait for since all our questions have been answered and tied all the loose ends with great emotion.
They should just let the series die but there will always be someone who wants to make cash out of it. This game feels like it was made of Transformers 3 fans. Like Pyromonki said I should discard this game like the Snake skateboard game.
Konami should move on to new things. The ZOE3 artworks are just sick.

C](http://metalgearsolid.nl/?p=1867)onfirmed that MGS5 is being made with few details. As long as it's not after MGS4 I'll be excited. Would love to see a remake of the originals with young snake.
Solid Snake again? I was hoping for a prequel to the entire series starring the Boss. Kojima himself even stated he wanted this.
Eh, not sure exactly what to think? I'd love to have another experience with MGS like I did with 3. As much as I loved the gameplay in MGS4, I just don't want another stupid storyline scapegoat like "nanomachines" again.
Nanomachines caused 9/11. Fucking nanomachines…
Hopefully the Codec calls are more like in MGS 3 again. I loved just wasting time talking to everyone.
Also, because for some reason it was missing in 4, this better have a cutscene viewer.
80% of 4 were cutscenes, they figured if you wanted to see them again you'd just replay.
Solid Snake again? I was hoping for a prequel to the entire series starring the Boss. Kojima himself even stated he wanted this.
I think he is definetely my favourite of all the Snakes because he is really "charming" and the one I empathize the most with. I am not that fond of the idea of The Boss's prequel for some reasons, I think maybe keeping her past mostly a mystery is better.
There were a lot of artworks of Big Boss. Maketing wise, remaking Metal Gear 2 solid Snake is the best course of action. Promoting the famous fight between Snake and Big Boss with real time HD graphics, real time cutscenes and Voice Acting could be awesome.
I think Kojima should move on to other franchise but I he has been saying for the last 3 or 4 games.
I think they should remake Metal Gear 1 and 2.
Kojima has said many times he doesn't want to remake those because he'd pretty much have to rewrite/change the whole story. A while ago he said his younger team could do it but they proved with rising they seem a bit lost without Kojima. The Boss prequel would be cool but I've always wanted to play as young Ocelot.
I would love to see that, but I can see why they'd prefer to move on to new stories. The first one was pretty standard, but the second one was where the Metal Gear series started getting more into the gameplay we know now having a snake that would eat your rations, discarding items when they get on fire, and getting a code through morse code and translating it with the manual.

I have to add a much better story with a darker tone (everyone betrays you) on war. There were really sad moments (lacking in voice and cutscene !) like Gray Fox's "death".
If these stories resolve around Snake and Big Boss. I recall that BB betrayed Snake on his first mission and have not met until Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. I am not sure that Kojima would tell a story on how BB trained Snake, it does not sound that great.
Replaying 3 on the Vita makes me REALLY REALLY want a Cobra Unit game. Running around WWII fighting Nazi's with BEEZ and talking to the guy you just capped for battle info is too good to pass up.
Regarding the MG remakes, for some reason I wouldn't want to see them on the level of MGS 4 graphically. I can't explain why, though. I'd like the being around the level of the PS2 games, so I'd want them for the 3DS with HD ports possibly later. I think it'd also be a good way to keep costs down.
To follow up on my last post, apparently Kojima wanted to make a Cobra Unit game but the new team couldn't handle it so they made Rising instead.
KOJIMA!! COME BACK!! MAKE GAMES AGAIN!

I really want a remake of 1. I can't get into it as easily with those PS1 graphics. Make a Peacewalker level update or something.

You mean MGS 1? There's Twin Snakes then.
No one likes Twin Snakes.
I don't really see the problems with it. I thought it was good.
I liked Twin Snakes. The majority of the complaints I see from it are the fact that a lot of the cutscenes made Snake look like a typical hollywood action hero. The most ridiculous one coming to mind is when Snake jumped off an incoming missile. Especially odd considering there was that codec conversation after Snake climbed all those stairs and remarked to Campbell how he wasn't as fit as he use to be. I'd rather see Snake as the gruff man in his 30's struggling to make his way through the series.
Personally, though, I didn't mind the game overall. I enjoyed it and loved it. Psycho Mantis is still one of the greatest bosses to ever grace video games.
"You like to play Super Smash Bros."
!

The cutscenes wered indeed ridiculous or badly directed. Snake screaming "fox !!!!!" before getting stomped made me lol hard. I was supposed to feel very emotional, it was one of the defining moment of the series. The voice acting was undeniabely inferior to the original (lack of emotion). Its not bad Voice acting by today's standards but I am expecting the voices to be at least as good as the original.
The ost of Twin Snakes was ok to good but they did not use "enclosure" its almost a crime not to use it especially for a remake.
Hoàwever, I did like the graphics and environment of Shadow Moses in HQ and the designs of the characters.
The words above MGS5 are Open Ground Reconnaissance Endeavour
Kojima recently tweeted he had something exciting to show at SDCC behind doors, and people who walked out of the presentation said it was amazing.
Cliff Bleszinski @therealcliffyb Just got pulled into a back room at Comic Con by @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN and showed some crazy new secret stuff. Wow.
This is most likely a leak from the presentation, but nobody will know for sure. Maybe we'll hear more at Kojima's MGS 25th Anniversary Event in Tokyo on August 30th.
They're using the old font again..
Can't wait to see this; I hope it's not too different from the old ones, "Tactical Espionage Action" being replaced kind of worries me.
"Would she have wanted this?" probably refers to the Boss. The Diamond Dogs logo. Everything leads to the conclusion that we're playing Big Boss again.
Let's not forget that this could be fake, though.
Sounds legit to me. The lines are so Metal Gear.
Konami confirmed it's fake. The guy behind it even contacted them.
Okay, I want this.
Game was rushed to the finish line with missing stuff and overall still managed to come out workng somehow same as mgsv. Doesnt mean both come close to actually living up to the greatness those two game franchises are known for though and are ultimately total disappointments.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
My new favorite thing I read today is "FFXV has an amazing story, it just doesn't tell it".
Oh so it's the same as bleach and FT? Those two also have THE best shonen stories in them somewhere… I am sure. xD

A game does not get to have an incredible level of polish like TPP, and still be rushed.
A game does not get to have an incredible level of polish like TPP, and still be rushed.
The only polish it has is on the actual gameplay mechanics. Repetitive as hell missions, second half that is only repeats, barely any story, characters underdeveloped and previous ones ruined and obviously unfinished story as well documented online perfectly point out my point of why it is rushed and not complete.

How does that even make sense? Story is one of the most basic fundamental element that is done before the actual development on the game begins. How can a game have such a incredible level of polish in the area that is by far the most time-consuming, and difficult part of development, and be unfinished, and rushed just because the story wasn't a vomiting fest like MGS4?
The story is finished. The game was never marketed as a some-sort of lore-fest that people wanted. It was a revenge tale, which was completed by the end of chapter 1. With chapter 2 serving as a after-revenge type story to show that despite DD expecting things to get better after revenge, it never happened, and even caused major events. The game itself doesn't show any real sloppiness in chapter 2, but somehow that makes people think that it's unfinished due to it's pacing which again serves as a epilogue rather than a full-blown story-chapter like chapter 1.
Mission 51 is not canon. The game doesn't acknowledge it. Nor does it add anything of worth to the characters. Anyone still trying to argue that it's important must have not really thought about the episode just beyond resolving two useless plot-devices. The game's true ending with Eli going back to his old ways was a prefect end to his character-arc until his eventual appearance at Shadow Moses.
On a side-note; TPP has the best character-work in the entire series. One-tape of Zero in the truth tapes is more than enough to show Zero's character, and his relationship with Big Boss and humanise him then the entirety of MGS3, and MGS4. More doesn't equal better. Kojima, with this game, finally understood the essence of subtlies, and keeps the characters very subtle.
TPP, at its core, is the story of Big Boss’s fall from grace, but it’s also so much more than that. It may very well be Kojima’s magnum opus. It takes all of the Metal Gear series’ most important thematic elements, and puts it into a relatively simple story with a deceptively small scale.
There is a reason why TPP reception is a carbon-copy of MGS2 on release. There is a reason why Kojima, despite MGS3, and MGS4, went back to his MGS2 days bringing the series in a much more ambiguous tone, and simply not concerning itself with the actual story, and ended the series exactly like how he wanted over 15 years ago. It took like a decade before people came to appreciate MGS2 post-modern-narrative-style, and it will be the same for TPP.

So Liquid and the kids were just supposed to leave with Sahelanthropus and no one does anything?
Mission 51 is not canon. The game doesn't acknowledge it.
You mean "Konami" doesn't acknowledge it.
The game's true ending with Eli going back to his old ways was a prefect end to his character-arc until his eventual appearance at Shadow Moses.
His old ways was leading Child Soldiers despite him being a rogue member of Foxhound in Metal Gear Solid?
TPP, at its core, is the story of Big Boss’s fall from grace,
…..Then what was Ground Zeroes? Cause that sounds awfully redundant.
There is a reason why TPP reception is a carbon-copy of MGS2 on release.
First I've hard of this complaint.
It took like a decade before people came to appreciate MGS2 post-modern-narrative-style,
Maybe for some but not everyone.
and it will be the same for TPP.
No it won't. It's always be known to half the fanbase as the game where Kojima threw the canon out of wack…....and ran up the game's budget in production (which no one's ever been able to prove.)
So Liquid and the kids were just supposed to leave with Sahelanthropus and no one does anything?
It doesn't come up ever again. It doesn't effect the Solid Snake saga. Doesn't effect Eli as a character…..... But Please do tell me what critical relevance they hold to anything in the series.
You mean "Konami" doesn't acknowledge it.
No i mean the game doesn't acknowledge it. Kojima doesn't acknowledge it. His staff doesn't acknowledge it, you know the people who created the game. It was released with the collectors, just like how movies often release deleted-scenes in them.
Only the butthurt fans acknowledge it who were clearly disappointed by the game, but instead of simply admitting that, they decided to blame the evil konami, and labeled the game unfinished.
His old ways was leading Child Soldiers despite him being a rogue member of Foxhound in Metal Gear Solid?
TPP takes place in 1984, and MGS takes place in 2005. Eli builds his Kingdom of the Flies, stays under the radar until Big Boss in Zanzibar is taken down, then he plans for the Shadow Moses stuff.
…..Then what was Ground Zeroes? Cause that sounds awfully redundant.
Snake Eater, Portable Ops, PW, GZ, and TPP(both GZ, and TPP make up the MGSV game) are all part of the Big Boss saga.
Maybe for some but not everyone.
Obviously. Otherwise we wouldn't be having a complete repeat of MGS2 if people actually bothered to think about MGS2, and understand it's message. It's funny how MGS4 was a giant middle-finger from Kojima to those who kept asking for MGS2 "plot-points" to be explained yet even-then people STILL didn't get it.
It's not a coincidence that the two games that Kojima enjoyed the most making are also two of the most ambiguous title in the series.
No it won't. It's always be known to half the fanbase as the game where Kojima threw the canon out of wack…....and ran up the game's budget in production (which no one's ever been able to prove.)
Probably because Kojima himself does not give two shits about the canon. MGS2 should be the dead giveaway of his design philosophy. Though most "fans" are oblivious to it, and think Kojima makes a MGS game just to throw crazy convoluted plot.
Anyone who has been on the internet since MGS2 days would know that the best discussions about MGS game comes after few years of its release. IT happen with every single MGS game since MGS2.
