Pedro and the minks from zou are most likely from yemen since the gate look exactly the same as "Bab al-yaman" Which age is 1,000 year old like Zou,
the architecture is Inspired by "Sana'a" the capital city of yemen, also the whale tree might be Inspired by the "dragon blood tree" from socotra island, yemen too.
although zou the elephant is Inspired by the "elephant rock" in iceland or/and the Sanatani (Hindu) myth of the world residing on the backs of four elephants.

And the rainforests, very Yemen indeed.
Oda taking an element or two from X location does not make an island based off X location.
(Whale tree doesn't look like the Socotra trees either)

Yeah thats true! oda even said that alabasta is inspired by ancient egypt but its heavily inspired by the islamic/arabic architecture and culture, same thing goes for dressrosa oda said its inspired by spain and spanish culture BUT its have the colosseum which is in rome, italy…
sorry my english isn't good! haha

So Zou isn't Yemen at all.
So Zou isn't Yemen at all.
What ??! lol yes it is, my point was that oda usually mix a lot of things together by his own way and make a masterpiece!
Well medival yemen arab persian (middle east in total) buldings are mostly very simmilar

What's he (and I) are saying is that Zou has a few elements from the old Middle East, including Yemen yeah.
But just a few.
Like how Loguetown at a few points has a building or two Oda practically ripped right out of Florence.
That just means the element is from Yemen or Iran or Italy. It doesn't make the whole island at all based off any of them.
A whole island strongly based off a real world location is somewhere like Dressrosa or Wano.
Well medival yemen arab persian (middle east in total) buldings are mostly very simmilar
I think so,some of the houses look like "Mada'in Saleh" or maybe the **"**petra city" ??! in the arabian peninsula but also there are similar ones in iran called "naqsh-e rustam", i think that there are some of these in turkey as well,at the end they are all in the middle east haha
It's also reminds me of "babylon", the palace kinda look like "the Hanging Gardens Of Babylon", not to mention that "babylon" or "ancient mesopotamia" in general have a lot of animals paintings, for example: "Ishtar Gate"
Its also might have some inspiration from "persepolis" but i STILL think that zou is more yemen-like then any other thing..
but i STILL think that zou is more yemen-like then any other thing..
It's like nothing in real life at all.
Yemen is a craggy dry badland full of sand and rocks with a few sad old cities scattered around.
How is Zou based on Yemen.
your'e right,i think that i get it now, lets see!
1-the environment look like Jungles and rainforests 2-the architecture is mainly based on yemen with some other middle eastern influence 3-zou is based on the "elephant rock" in Iceland or/and the hindu myth "world-elephants".
I think it's right to say that half of zou is based on yemen.

The architecture isn't mainly based on Yemen though.
Tell you what, post a bunch of the buildings, like the houses, the hang outs of the two dukes, the gates etc. And we'll see what we got.

Well its technically middle eastern architecture so its more accurate to say that half of zou is based on the middle east cuz all the architecture in zou are 100% middle eastern..

I am sorry i forget about that one,i am so dumb lol!! your'e right zou is definitely inspired by southeast asian environment and architecture..
I think that zou is very mixed and that why its a masterpiece! now i would say its 30-40% yemen and middle east ((mainly the architecture)), 30-40% south east asia ((architecture and environment)), i am still not sure tho lol but zou is based on many things thats all i can say haha..

To say an island is based on a place or region really should't be so complicated.
It should be fairly straightforward.
Alabasta = Middle East
Jaya/Upperyard = Mesoamerica
Dressrosa = Spain/Mediterranean Europe
A place with mixed up bits and pieces from several places, that fundamentally doesn't reflect those pieces in other major ways (Yemeni and Persian architecture in a rainforest lol)….this is an island not based off anywhere real. It's from Oda's imagination using various real life inspirations.

thats make more sense haha, btw do you know what eneis lobby is based on or is it just from oda imagination ?

It also has some Islamic architecture motifs, but they're mixed in with other stuff and are presented in a very vanilla way that doesn't really suggest the culture so much as just the plain architectural ideas.
Kind of like how Water7 and Loguetown both use Italian cities as their architectural influences (Venice and Florence respectively), but there's little to nothing suggesting Italian or even broader Mediterranean culture.
Whereas Dressrosa serves that up plenty (even if it's Spain as the focal point instead of Italy). And Alabasta of course serves up plenty of Middle Eastern cultural motifs too.
So you got:
Middle Eastern Architecture (Zou, Enies Lobby)
Middle Eastern Culture (Alabasta)
Mediterranean Architecture (Loguetown, Water 7)
Mediterranean Culture (Dressrosa)
Heck add in Marineford a bit for Japanese architecture, but little Japanese culture.
Whereas the actual island based off Japan is Wano naturally.

Oh thanks so much for the info, now we need an island that is based on Mesopotamia/Babylon and ancient Greece, although i heard that the city on the back of zou IS the Hanging Gardens of Babylon IT'S SELF and that the huge Building in the center is the Tower of Babel, what do you think ??!
If thats is true then i think its will be like this, the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World:
1-Great Pyramid of Giza=Rain Dinners casino? 2-Hanging Gardens of Babylon=on back of zou? 3-Statue of Zeus at Olympia= kyros statue?!
4-Temple of Artemis=in the future? 5-Mausoleum at Halicarnassus=in the future? 6-Colossus of Rhodes=in the future? 7-Lighthouse of Alexandria=Twin Cape Lighthouse?

Well it's not literally the Hanging Gardens of Babylon because this is One Piece and there is and never was a Babylon?
It's one thing for Oda to take vague real world legends about "cities of gold" and stuff like that. It's quite another to take direct actual real world things with specific names and identities.
And I have no idea what huge building you're talking about. The whale??
If thats is true then i think its will be like this, the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World:
Ok first off…you're doing a big common mistake here of thinking about a connection pattern BEFORE thinking of what the point of such a thing even would be. Like you're literally just saying "The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World"....and that's it. What does this signify? This theory? What is Oda doing with them?
1-Great Pyramid of Giza=Rain Dinners casino?
….a tacky Las Vegas style casino is the One Piece equivalent of the great pyramids (that's plural bro)?? Huh??
3-Statue of Zeus at Olympia= kyros statue?!
The status of Kyros is just some random statue, like you find in millions of parks throughout the world. Not a massive holy statue of super duper importance. How is this a connection?
I just wanted to share my thoughts haha but since oda is inspired by ancient egypt and the maya ((Chichen Itza and the Sacrificial Altar)) Which is from the new world wonders and so is the colosseum…
I was thinking why he wouldn't be inspired by ancient mesopotamia ??! since its Considered to be the cradle of civilization in many Sources but sure thing is its the cradle of Writing ((before egypt))
So i think that the "Great Kingdom" will be inspired by ancient mesopotamia since its is the "cradle of civilization" and Writing/knowledge..
I just wanted to share my thoughts haha but since oda is inspired by ancient egypt and the maya ((Chichen Itza and the Sacrificial Altar)) Which is from the new world wonders and so is the colosseum…
These are famous manmade things in general… much like the city of Venice… Neuschwanstein castle… Florence cathedral… Barcelona's Gaudi park… the palace of Versailles… St Basil's cathedral…
Almost as if "famous cool building(s) or city" is the inspiration. And not checking off the various Wonders lists for no reason.
I was thinking why he wouldn't be inspired by ancient mesopotamia ??! since its Considered to be the cradle of civilization in many Sources but sure thing is its the cradle of Writing ((before egypt))
But there's nothing about Zou that is based off Mesopotamia.
Which was a desert region of people living alongside two major rivers, with a really famous specific style of architecture unseen on Zou.

Zou is neither of these things in the One Piece world.

Nothing about the Ancient Kingdom suggests the advent of civilization in the One Piece world loll.
I'm really confused where you got that impression?
It's a specific civilization that got taken down by a collection of rival civilizations just 800 years prior to the current events, 800 years.
800 years is I think not something you understand.
In real life 800 years ago there had already been three crusades, Marco Polo was journeying around, Switzerland was starting to form, and Ghengis Khan and his sons were conquering the hell out of Asia and Europe.
The first civilization area of Mesopotamia was Sumer.
Do you know around how many years ago Sumer was in action?
Try 4500 years ago.Or I can just point out how Alabasta as an island has history recorded way way way before the Void Century.

You do realize that our world timeline doesn't match the one piece world timeline ??? for example oda said that alabasta Represent Ancient Egypt yet it has almost all styles of islamic architecture from moorish to persian etc and Alubarna Palace is either based on taj mahal or dome of the rock, both of them aren't in egypt…
Not to mention that the royal family first or last name ((i am not sure!)) is nefertari, the name comes from an ancient egyptian queen, and that's WAY way way!! before the islamic or muslim conquest of Egypt. same thing goes for dressrosa..
Also i think that the Great or ancient kingdom must have a Unique architecture style, and Mesopotamia would be perfect imo.
oh BTW you asked me in another post about what's is the huge Building that i was talking about, well before i would like to say that it doesn't look like the tower of babel just a Slight similarity. I think its look more like al-qahira castle in yemen,Which is 800 years old ((sadly its been destroyed few weeks ago)) robin san would be angry too, i wish we could Teach these Terrorists a lesson like how she did to Yama!!

Monkey King if you had to guess what countired do you think the ancient kingdom is based on? Im thinking the whole void century could mirror in a century timeline the fall of rome so im thinking we could see a Greece ( Birthplace of democracy, at least in the west) / Roman influence but do you see anything else particular.
I know dressarosa is spanish / rome and has it's roots in mediterraen culture but I feel like oda could allude to these places without having it being that similar.

Thanks [emoji1]
Besides the reasons MK gave as in the timeline doesnt parallel as much as oda would probably intend, early Mesopotamia aka 3,000-4,000 BC or even earlier was pretty small to start with, like there were a few major cities states but they werent much bigger than a middle sized suburb or such, i think oda is going for a very advanced ancient civilization that has ideas that in some cases were ahead of what is happening currently in OP, possibly besides vegapunk though.

It doesn't need to, the idea that civilization began just 800 years before the current plot is completely absurd. Oda has to have even a basic knowledge of history to be as interested in the world and an archaeology based plot as he is. He would be aware of what a comical time frame that is for zero to modern.
for example oda said that alabasta Represent Ancient Egypt
I highly doubt that was what he said. Where is the quote from, I want to see the original. Sounds like he said he based their styles and stuff of Ancient Egypt, which of course is obvious.

A modern population having features of an ancient one isn't strange. Egypt would have continued having descendent culture and names from the old one, but it became Arabized.
Would you be surprised to hear that there are still Greeks around lol?
And what goes for Dressrosa?…

Didn't we just have this conversation like a page ago??
Nothing "represents" anything.
Dressrosa is heavily influenced and based on Spain culturally.

Let talk about the Characters and not the locations. Do you think that law is based on Valentino Rossi ?
!
Cosette is based on; "Cosette", from the French historical novel "Les Misérables", a little orphan forced to work under miserable(s) conditions under strict abuse, just like One Piece’s Cosette.
! in a novel of symbolism and metaphor, Cosette may also be seen as a symbol of hope in the world of Les Misérables, representing the rise of the oppressed and abused from darkness to a bright future. She is the primary motivation for several characters in the novel to lift themselves out of darkness, regardless of whether or not they succeed. Cosette can be seen as a strong female lead in the novel, aiming to achieve happiness ultimately in her life. She can be seen as restrained by the time in which she lived, but still full of subtle strength.
