Why does Nami, Brook and Chopper didn't recognized the name Pudding?
Chapter 827: Totland

@.access:
I'm still not sold on Big Mom being a bad person. Somehow I feel like it will be all a misunderstanding.
I can see something like "Eating people? Oh, it's just humanoid candy. Heads in a box? It's a head shaped cake. Bombing islands? With chocolate. Stealing ingredients? It's from villains. Singing about making food out dead bodies? It's just a song. We just like to look creepy, what's the problem with… omg don't tell me everyone thought it was true!?"
She literally burns countries to the ground and uses extortion and blackmail in her business. Come on.
-
Why does Nami, Brook and Chopper didn't recognized the name Pudding?
Yeah. That and Mangastream's flip flopping on the name (since they'd used Purin before iirc) was largely why I had my question about what the dialogue was ACTUALLY calling her.
But it's been confirmed Purin was in the dialogue the entire time so there's no excuse. Though someone mentioned a subtly reaction on Nami's part. I haven't had a chance to check firsthand
-
Why does Nami, Brook and Chopper didn't recognized the name Pudding?
Nami probably figured it out already

Dressrossa: Food Edition.
It's still a toss-up whether or not Big Mom turns out to be evil or not. Hopefully evil, despite any relationship to Purin, Lola, and not-Lola.
-
well, if Pudding would reeeally join the crew, i don't see her getting married to sanji, i mean, a married couple in the crew would be so weird for One piece, if that was the case can totally see them not agreeing to the marriage, becoming friends and both coming to the crew
even though i don't believe in any of the possibilities lol
Sanji is gonna marry Nami 1 day obviously. He is Nami's bitch and he doesn't mind 1 bit.
-
Big Mom = Doflamingo
Pudding/Purin = Violet/Viola
Living objects = Living objects
But what we really all want is another Rebecca!
In seriousness, I don't mind the similarities to Dressrosa, it's not like they dominate what happened there. -

I think this chapter pretty much proved she is evil…..given how she is gettin the ingredients for the cake.....
Though her goal for the Island of being inclusive is nice, there is always a darker element at work.....

I don t think she is bb akainu type of evil. Sure, maybe she does bad things but… Look at her dream, look at her crew, do Pekoms and Purin look like the type that would stay with someone so evil?
-
This chapter somehow made my "theory" about Pudding gain strength, so I decided to share it. I put "theory" between brackets because it is actually more of a wild guess than a theory, as it has not a single factual basis so far.
So, my guess is that Pudding is not Big Mom's real daughter, but the last survivor of the three-eyed race (or something close to that). By marrying her to Sanji, Big Mom was not actually targeting Germa's technology as much as putting Pudding's into Germa's care and ensure her protection since Germa 66 is in good terms with the WG unlike an Yonkou.
I thought it was weird that Pudding hid her third-eye in the picture to Sanji, because there was no reason to hide the fact she is not a normal girl from him - it's not like he is marrying based on his own will. But it became weirder now seeing that she keeps the eye hidden even in Totland, a supposed interracial paradise (that sounded wrong) where she should feel comfortable in showing her true appearance. My guess is that she has to keep the fact she is a three-eye hidden because they are and extremely valued race, something like Kurapika's tribe, and are hunted down and killed for whatever reason. Now we know BM wants to have all races living together, it makes more sense she would like to keep the last member of a dying one safe.
Of course, Oda could come up with many other reasons for the eye thing, but I am betting on this one right now. -

Does it make Crocodile any less evil just because Robin and Bon Kurei were among his subordinates?

I think Robin said she did assassination with a smile on her face. She isn t such a good example of a good person.
If anything she is proof that you can be half evil, half good. Just like BM.

To me, any character who kills solely out of being personally inconvenienced by something is one that needs to be stopped, and with Big Mom being one who was on Luffy's list already, of course she will be (sooner or later).
-
Probably already said, but anyone else thinking Big Mom's Utopia of diverse people is to eventually eat them? She'd want as many different species for their different tastes.
-
People have made jokes about the Tea Party being like the Red Wedding from Game of Thrones but seems that's exactly what Big Mom is going for. :p
-
Next nakama thread is about to blow all the way up
-
I fell in love with the idea of Totland. Gets me totally in the mood: I can feel the joy, the sweetness of it while reading.
-

God that's morbid. But think about this. If everything is made out of chocolate, wouldn't she just want to coat all the races in chocolate then munch on. It'd be like what Mr. 3 tried doing with his wax, but worse. This is finally a Yonkou. I'd love to see what Oda whips out to make her both respectable and detestable.
-
they are just gonna botch that much like they botched every good scene
I don't see how musical scenes can be made worse if we get to hear actual singing, unless it gets too dragged out.
Anime Sogeking's song >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Manga Sogeking's song.

As captain, Luffy might not allow it. The thought of Sanji being friendzoned is more likely than dealing with "marriage".
-
I did like what i saw of Purin but yea definitely not Strawhat material. And given that we still didn't see her third eye could mean that she is not that third eye girl.
Also Pedro do seem to have some secrets. Still pretty bland as far as his base character goes.
The third eye could be from that slime creature on her shoulder. We don't know their relation yet. Also I fail to see what defines someone as "Strawhat material" after looking at literally everyone from Zoro to Brooke joined.

Exactly what I thought. And those chocolated island are there to fatten the citizen.

Why would Luffy oppose that? Look at Doflamingo's crew. Sanji and Pudding being married and together on the same ship causes no harm to anyone so Luffy wouldn't even care.

In seriousness, I don't mind the similarities to Dressrosa, it's not like they dominate what happened there.I'll take another Shirahoshi or anyone else before I want another Rebecca. All she did was a whole lot of nothing while crying and screaming Luffy's name wrong even after learning his name. Worst. Character. Ever.

Like in Hansel and Gretel?
Would be an awesome reference if it turned out like this. -
I'm expecting almost every fairy tale story to be referenced in this arc.

Which ones would you like to see most?
-
can just see luffy saying he doesnt mind if pudding joins sanji as cook lol

I have very mixed opinions. Though I clarify my reasoning for stating that.
-
@Devil:
She has to be. The slime was alongisde her when she appeared: http://mangafox.me/manga/one_piece/v66/c651/11.html
This seems like enough proof to me that they are the same girl.
-
Which ones would you like to see most?
The two that poppped into my mind is The Three Little Pigs and Rapunzel.
-
Now that we know that there's sentient carpets, couldn't it be that Big Mom's suspected acts of cannibalism was just her eating some sentient candy or something?
-
I love the Disney influence in Oda's work. Felt the same way about Dressrosa too.
-
Now that we know that there's sentient carpets, couldn't it be that Big Mom's suspected acts of cannibalism was just her eating some sentient candy or something?
I'm guessing you're saying this to make Big Mom appear less as a cannibalistic-monster, right?
But in any case, these last two pages showed us how psychotic she was, so… were they humans or sentient-candies, it doesn't change much. -
Just disappointed a bit that Oda didn't make a proper presentation-panel for the big bitch yet, but great chapter after all.

Rebecca was there to reinforce the story of Kyros.
Now Pudding, hopefully she gives Sanji some serious character development. I'm still banking on the day Sanji hits a woman and I'm hoping Big Mam is just the right mixture of abomination and uterus for him to do it to.

I don't understand those who would like to see this.
Breaking that rule would destroy the character, completely (in my opinion, of course). -
Since Yonkou seems like not 100% evil, at least Big Mom gives place for all, what will be Luffy downside if he were a Yonkou with power ?
N.b. : the female characters on this arc are totally diverse but lovable ️
-
I don't understand those who would like to see this.
Breaking that rule would destroy the character, completely (in my opinion, of course).Sanji almost died because of that stupid pride. If he wants to move on as a pirate, he's going to have to put his legs to better use. If executed properly, Sanji's character can remain in tact while showing his conflict over having to break that rule. A wedding is a nice place for him to make a scene too and prove that he's going to be the one that'll give the Navy the most trouble. Seeing how Oda will go about that will be fun.
-
That thing on Pudding's shoulder reminds me of The Amoeba Boys from The Powerpuff Girls.
Omg ur profile pic…link please
-
Sanji almost died because of that stupid pride.
And this made him way more interesting, being conflicted between common sense and his "stupid pride" that must be far deeper than what we think.
If he wants to move on as a pirate, he's going to have to put his legs to better use.
Not really. It hasn't stopped his progression until now, it won't do so later.
If executed properly, Sanji's character can remain in tact while showing his conflict over having to break that rule.
I guess our vision of the character is different, then.
For me, it would destroy his development. -
So… Are we saying Pudding takes an eye out occasionally and lends it to Mr Slime of her shoulder sometimes?

So let's see:
- Beautiful woman, check
- Bubbly and easy flattered, check
- Does not like when people won't finish their meals, check
- Hides something she's either embarassed to show or feels awkward when around people.
Yep, she's made for Sanji no matter how you look at.
@uniaka:

Judging by how Pudding reacted at Big Mom eating her own subordinates, I can say 100% she is completely against all the bad her mother does.
-
Isn't her hair just covering her third eye? Thinking about it now..

Or maybe it ate the Eye Eye No Mi and can turn into an eye whenever it wants or when Pudding wants it to.
-

For me, it would destroy his development.I can't see Sanji ever being able to fully protect his dream of Luffy's if he cannot kick a woman. It's a crutch that makes it easier for him to look down on women too honestly. The second he is able to kick a woman is the second he'll be able to take women more seriously. We can worry about Sanji's character being destroyed when we see him using his fists.
-
Loving this. Big mum's crew is hilarious, the whole theme is just brilliant. This arc should be a great read.
Also, fell in love with Purin. Sanji, mate, hope it works out for you this time!
The year of Sanji indeed!

I really hope Pudding can fight too.

the word TOT comes from the catalan (spain region where they have an independence movement) that means ALL. Im sure that Oda found that word while listening the FC Barcelon hymn whem they say "TOT el camp".
-
with the Dressrossa like introduction, I don't think this will be a short rescue arc lol…do you think we will visit a lot of islands? Maybe Big Mom has 1 child to rule each of the small islands around her? How did she manage to create these islands? or just found them like this in the New World and took over? ahh so much to look forward to.
LOL @ brook just laying down relaxing and enjoying the view hahaaha
