So no, not likely. Cooking Fest at least had hints it was going to get interrupted thrown at you 24/7 well before the arc.

Glad Shima actually decided to go down the cooking competition route :) I'm sure the Five 10-Shell cooks have some crazy skills, so this competition is going to be interesting. Hopefully it will be fleshed out a bit before we go into the back channel or get shown what the other combos are up to.

Despite the hamburger balloon and hotdog blimp, this chapter is creepy as hell.
So the whole 'soul transaction' means that people who wear masks have their souls 'exchanged', or is 'ressurected from the dead'? I got kinda confused there. If it's 'ressurected', the holy shit thats creepy stuff. Funny how a cooking world takes a scary turn, while a supposedly yokai/ghost world is just a goofy place.

I like how komatsu just chills in the kids house and wearing the tattered clothes, how sweet. Then again, komatsu's pretty small if he fits in kids clothed lol.

It was infuriating, but good writing nonetheless, that Shima decided not to address it right then, rather showing Komatsu and the kid bonding instead. Chako was only introduced last chapter but I already care about what's happened to him.

I've got this crazy idea that the food spirits we've seen so far aren't actually dangerous and it's the urchives instead that are turning into "masks". Beware the living ingredients that people are wearing to protect themselves from the mostly harmless ghosts!

I feel that it was downplayed because its may be a key reason Komatsu wins the cooking festival. He's got a bit of prep on how these sea people's tastes
