Ha ha, when regular ninjas aren't good enough…
Well ninjas are incompetent at defending people anyway so they have to have someone else/better to do that

Asuma has to be in his like 30's. If kohonamaru is like 11…he cant be in his 20's it would be like OO;;
Though seriously I bet hes like 30 or 32
Konoha is like a military that fights for the fire country. How often does the military protect politicians? Not often. That is usually the CIA or the Secret Service.
Where did you get that idea?
Are you telling me….that ninjas....fucking ninjas....aren't the central INTELLIGENCE agency and SECRET service...for an entire country....but the army? The offensive non-secretive fanfare type thing....army?
1. Kishimoto never established that.
2. Its utterly illogical.
This is a FORMER group. There was no need to mention it. I am sure there are many former groups in the past. Asuma use to always carry the signal of the 12 guards, It seems he left Konoha when he was younger to become a member and he came back some time later.
Its just a generic power group to bring out of nowhere as a vaguely intriguing concept….
Akusti also said that is was a fire temple, but it should be a ninja temple because the main monk use to be the leader of the 12 guards and he trainded the monks in some type of ninja arts.
If a national landmark is destroyed, I expect realistc response and knowlegde of the situation.
The man hunt would be done by KONOHA! That is the fire countrys military power. Konoha is under the fire country.
Why the hell weren't they there guarding the landmark then?
One former ninja monk dosen't count.
What kind of lousy military dosen't stay anywhere but thier central base?
This temple was not that important for the fuedal lord to go crazy about. This is just like if a church got bombed in America. I mean people would be looking for the people who did it but it wouldnt hurt the goverment any. They were a religous group, like most monks are. They just happed to be trained in ninja arts because of there leader. Who use to be one of the 12 guards.
No this is like Notre Dame getting ripped apart by terrorists, and the pope and cardinals getting massacred inside.
I dont see how people are complaining about this. This is no more random than than CP 1 cp 4 or cp 9 in one piece.
A giant government having KGB, Gestapo, FBI/CIA like forces is to be expected. And CP9 was brought up as part of the main plot. Not involving SUDDENLY characters weve known since Volume 4. Kakashi being an Anbu was beleivable….
But Asuma being part of this group, and them only being brought up in a cannon fodder scene is what changes it.
And like you said, FORMER, meaning the rank of "12 guard" is irrelevant as its not actually involving the job of being the guards, and is basically just a way to say "These guys are strong".
CP9 was doing its job actively during its apperance.
Asuma has to be in his like 30's. If kohonamaru is like 11…he cant be in his 20's it would be like OO;;
Though seriously I bet hes like 30 or 32
And who says that Konohamaru is Asuma's son? It hasn't been stated that Asuma is the Third's only son, he could very well have siblings.
I'm sticking with uncle until it's specifically stated that Konohamaru is Asuma's son.
OKay, so things are making too much sense right now (as said, the temple deal seemed kinda random), but at least it's getting a bit more interesting.
And I so dearly love the Akatsuki. As I said before, I'm sticking for the series just for them, and it seems like that was the right decision.
So Kakuzu appears to be the greedy member of the Akatsuki, and even Hidan manages to get my respect for being interesting.
EDIT:
I just noticed something: there's only two more Akatsuki to be revealed. The leader and the other unknown guy. o.o

Mind telling me why it's SOOO illogical? Sure they handle the seceret stuff, but why is it so hard to believe they actually fight durings wars? If they aren't the army then what is?

I'm with you on this one. But it doesn't really matters that much anyway.

The thing is: Ninjas can fight in times of war. But when ninjas, y'know, the people who use stealth to gather info and assassinate, in other words, spies, when they're not the Central Intelligence Agency sort of thing, then something's wrong here.

**Mind telling me why they can't be both? Has there been even the slightest mention of an army besides the ninja. And Naruto doesn't exactly follow the traditional ninja thing. Not completley.
I mean what Ninja wears a green jumpsuit?**

I'm saying that they can do both. But if the numerous amount of ninjas in the manga aren't the main intelligence gathering units and merely the army, something's not right. In fact, if the Kaze no Kuni's lord wanted to close down sunagakure merely for monetary reasons, then that means that the ninjas there aren't the army, unless the Kaze no kuni's lord wanted to leave his country completely defenseless.
If I'm not mistaken aswell when the Kyuubi was attacking in the 1st episode it was only Ninja fighting it
If I'm not mistaken aswell when the Kyuubi was attacking in the 1st episode it was only Ninja fighting it
And, you know, the fact that there were Great Ninja wars, I'm pretty sure that ninjas are involved in the main fighting. But, those people, the 12 guards, if they were the CIA, then what is the point of training people to become ninjas if those who aren't of the 12 aren't involved in spying or assassinations. It's completely illogical. Just like the Kaze no Kuni's lord wanting to pretty much shut down the country's own defenses. This 12 guards thing. It's pretty much saying that those guys are strong.
well since Kishimoto already said that guns won't be in the series since they'd off balance it
the only other type or army I can imagine there being would be Samurai
well since Kishimoto already said that guns won't be in the series since they'd off balance it

The ninjas still pretty much make up the main fighting force. But, that doesn't mean that they can't also be what they're meant to be.
They either are the CIA equivalent. Or theres no CIA.
Theres no way around it.
The 12 gentleman are body guards. They probably rotate shifts and guard the fuedal lord.
Who said the temple was important? Nobody. The temple just happend to have one of the 12 gentleman there and because he was a monk.
What have we known about ASUMA? NOTHING. How much screen time has he had? Hardly none. He was hardly established. Him being a body guard for the fuedual lord when he was younger, is not illogical. Because somebody have to guard the fuedual lord, right?
We learned about many divisions in Konoha. So why cant there be divisions in the fire country? There are many forces that are meant to do certain things.
Like that guy from the chuunin exam , the first examiner, he was in the torture and interrogation squad.
You complain that they are ninjas, so they should know whats going on in there country? That doesn't make much sense. Like terrorism in real life, small attacks can happend anywhere. You can stop many, but you cant stop them all. Like when the cloud ninja went to kidnap Hinata, He used stealth but if Hiashi or whoever it was didnt catch him. He would of probably succeded.
Konoha does not equal the CIA. Konoha equals the military. Some will argue that the CIA is a branch of the military. They rely alot of there information to the military and others. The secret service is not part of the military. They usually are body guards of people important to the country. Some of the secret service use to be former military people. Like many cops use to be former military people.
I was under the impression that the 12 guardians guard the fuedal lord.
And in a way you made my point for me, when u defended one piece. You said a big goverment is bound to have many groups working for it. And I agree. The fire country is no different. The 12 guardians is not a rank, it is a job.
O please. Does that mean that major politicians of the Hi no Kuni are mere fodder and can't have protection from your 12 guardians and gets stuck with just militia persona as guardians? And that ninjas, fucking ninjas, who are trained as intelligence gatherers and assassins, aren't the main intelligence gatherers? So they're divided into certain jobs. Interrogation, part of the intelligence gathering, like those jails the CIA had in Europe. Chuunin Exams/Teaching, it's not like most people automatically have the skills to become ninjas. It's still revolving about the purpose of spying. However. Even with these purposes that these ninja have self established, what about all the other not so specified ninja? Does that make Jonin like Kakashi and Hiashi mere soldiers?
And in any case, if these people were, as you proposed, the CIA, then why were they disbanded? the CIA has quite a big job in the government, even though it does not guard the president.
The 12 gentleman are body guards. They probably rotate shifts and guard the fuedal lord.
?
Who said the temple was important? Nobody. The temple just happend to have one of the 12 gentleman there and because he was a monk.
A giant temple with KONOHA TEMPLE (as in the one and only) plastered across it is probably important.
What have we known about ASUMA? NOTHING. How much screen time has he had? Hardly none. He was hardly established. Him being a body guard for the fuedual lord when he was younger, is not illogical. Because somebody have to guard the fuedual lord, right?
Its like Pauley revealing he's a secret agent sent by Smoker, and Smoker's son to keep watch on the strawhats.

Terrorists sneak around. The Akatsuki, whose outfits and probably faces are known everywhere just walked up in broad daylight and destroyed it.

THEYRE GODDAMNED NINJAS 0_0.
Ninjas arent the CIA/seceret service? Good lord man. Who is?

A job that dosen't function anymore and its members don't have anything anymore to signify they were part of it aside from mentioning it.
Oda brought up CP9 but he was using them as CP9.
Kishimoto brought up the 12G, but didn't actually have to deal with making them 12G, or using the 12G. In other words, its just a power sign, or weak thread between characters.
No work involved.
I hate it when things need to super over-analyzed in order to justify it's existence.
I hate it when things need to super over-analyzed in order to justify it's existence.
I'm just questioning what seems like poor writing.
That's what I mean though, poor writing. Kishi tells us about this new group, someone questions the purpose of it, and suddenly there's this whole analyzation thing from superfans justifying Kishi's decisions.
Oh…heh heh...sorry.
I liked this chapter! Very nice. I don't really care if the temple came out of the blue or not, it doesn't matter. And Asuma is getting some attention! Now we just need to find out if Kurenai has a Kekkai Genkai and our teacher squad will be uber awesome! Yeah!
And I'm glad Kakuzu (I don't think I got that right…) got at least one personality trait. Maybe it will figure into his fighting style somehow...I hope we get more on them soon. And I pray that the girl with the Nibi gets much more. She was cool...
Wait, if Asuma is the Hokage's son, and if Kurenai did have a Kekkai Genkai, wouldn't their baby be super awesome?
Kekkai Genkai?
And for god's sake, just everybody forget the Temple argument. it's there, it's irreversable, so there's nothing to be done about it. There is a Fire Temple with fighting monks who protect the Fire Lord. Period.
So what will Bill and Ted do next?
So what will Bill and Ted do next?
Does anyone else think that if Kishi dropped out Naruto and wrote a whole series about the Akatsuki (or even the other side characters), it'd actually be more interesting? I mean, that's kinda what it's been feeling like lately. The Akatsuki are the ones who keep getting attention, and good attention, at that.
No, I don't think it would be quite as good, but it would still be cool. I'd miss all the other characters, and I still like Naruto and the gang.
@Rixile:

I like sargent bug-eyes. But otherwise everyones pretty boring by this point.
Hi I'm Naruto, I'm here to go insanely demonic or blunder around as a bunch of clones and frustrate readers by being every bit as immature as before. Now wheres the fly bastard Sasuke.
Right here Naruto, boy is revenge awesome, did you know I like revenge? You did? Funny. Well I'm getting tired of waiting for revenge, in the meantime I'm working for Micheal Jackson and enjoying the…benefits.
Did somebody sai Michael Jackson?........wait for it...
Hello I'm Sai, I'm another good looking male in case you were wondering and I spend my days making sports commentary on penis's and running through overdone cliches again and again.
Did somebody say penis? Hi I'm Orochimaru, and despite all the awesome shit I did in vol.6 I'm more content hanging around and fighting time to time and stuff. I'm so boring these days that Zeph dosen't even know what else to say.
Hi I'm Kishimoto and god am I tired of writing this shit. You may have noticed the new art style I've selected. I call it....coloring book lazy garbage. The idea of value is a silly thing. The idea of continueing this series is also silly. But the editors don't let me sleep at night. They also don't let me communicate with the outside world. They lurk around like ninjas...the irony....like my own circle of Dante's hell....
This how the world ends, with a whimper, not a bang....
Didn't Kishimoto try to end the series after Zabuza?
I think a team Gai spin off would be so killer.
thats like Togashi Starting a new Series about the GR it'd be fucking amazing but I'd prefer to see the ones they're on get to finish
(could you imagine the negative feedback if Kishimoto decided to up and quit right now….)

I'd love it. I think Gaia alone would combust in a ball of fire.
Forest fires, vomiting, menustation. These things may be unpleaseant. But thier natures way of cleaning and clearing out the world.
The suicides induced by Naruto cancelation would fall under this catagory.
Im not a super fan. People asked what the purpose of this group? I just quoted the manga, saying it is to protect the fuedal lord.
In the Naruto world, Ninjas are the military. When I meant, they are not the CIA or secret service was that they have different divisions that do different things.
12 guardians are just 12 ninjas who job was to protect the Lord.
I guess we just going to disagree about this. Which is cool, I was just trying to explain why it made sense to me. I work for the US Goverment, with customs and border patrol. I see why different groups are needed to help keep the country safe. I might be over-analyzing. And plus I like to debate. lol
Oda> Kishie. There are many things kishie do that i dont like, but this was not one of them. I am not a super fan.
You just obtained the first member of your fanclub, Zephos. XD
I think a team Gai spin off would be so killer.
Indeed it would. Heck, any of the other cells would be more interesting. :/
I'd love it. I think Gaia alone would combust in a ball of fire.
Ditto. I'd pay to see that.
12 guardians are just 12 ninjas who job was to protect the Lord.
One must wonder why the lord cut them off the job then.
@yokaiforte:
One must wonder why the lord cut them off the job then.
Exactly my main point is its just a title Kishi can write in at ease without actually having to write in an actual active group.
Okay, yah got me. I said earlier I'd miss em, but a team Gai spinoff would be great! Lee needs love.
Team Gai forever!
Holy shit!
! I didn't know Azuma was the Third Hokage's son da hell!?!?!
So Naruto is supposedly learning a wind jutsu. Great potential if it's true, but this is Kishi so i expect onyl one variation repeated over and over again.
A wind jutsu eh? It does definetly have potential (currents, speeds, maybe some kind of pressure thing…) but it better not make him able to fly. I'd hate that.
Come on Kishi, you can do it!
@Rixile:
it better not make him able to fly. I'd hate that.
Come on Kishi, you can do it!
eeewww I will stop reading naruto it that happens
It wouldn't bother me much, they've been flying around all the time already so … I wonder though if this means he'll have Temari-like attacks or something.
the other big thing about the chapter is now he has new clones that keep the knowledge as they train
so
1 Naruto training for a day = day of training
365 Naruto's training for a day = year of training
Kishimoto just Dues Ex'd Training Time
the other big thing about the chapter is now he has new clones that keep the knowledge as they train

I actually appreciate Deus Ex's here…
nah
Shounen like Jojo's do it well really well and it actually ads to the story.

Wait…what!?!?
"If it wasn't for my horse I wouldn't have spent that year in college..."
head explodes
So now if Naruto really wanted, he could read entire libraries in one sitting. He could be...the smartest...ever cracks up
Or he could be really strong if one clone each trained a certain muscle group or repetitive action that was condusive to learning a complex technique?
Well to be honest, I think this is crap. I mean most of the time he seems to be able to only control, let's say a dozen clones in doing complicated manuevers. Yes, Naruto has totally bum rushed enemies with a horde of clones but he's not refined in his movements. He usually getting overwhelmed by stronger opponents rather quickly.
I know it's a total deus ex cop out and I do appreciate it not getting dragged out, but this really HURTS my brain.
its a 'new' Kage bushin Jutsu that makes the clones remember what they learn
Kakashi's secret Naruto only training method
Isnt it "Taijuu Kage Bunch" the new jutsu. And something about finding out what type of element naruto is.
! they test it with a pice of paper The paper classifies the user by responding in a certain way. As Naruto passes his chakra into the paper the paper gets cut in two. Naruto's element is wind
its a 'new' Kage bushin Jutsu that makes the clones remember what they learn
Kakashi's secret Naruto only training method
Yeah, I realized that much. I'm just saying it's bogus because I doubt he has the mental faculties to pull it off legitimately. But I forgot, this is Naruto, and it is a NEW jutsu so it must work…just BECAUSE~ :ninja: :ninja: :ninja:
It just hurts my brain very much and I will go lie down now.
@lxn:

Can you say hunter x hunter
meh, this is a little deus ex machina but when you think about it it's kinda a loophole with the kage bushin. I guess I'll let it pass . . . although i'm still not overly happy about it.
As for Naruto's element being wind, I was rather pleased about that. Because it's not something one would expect. Because of the kyuubi and all one would expect Naruto's element to be fire, but in this case we are shown an aspect of Naruto completely seperate from the Kyuubi.
However the possibility of him flying is just a key to the cheese gates. Like the Smallville creators said: "No tights, no flights."
