This just made me remember that the name swaps are stupid.
Street Fighter V

Diggin his new look. But hot damn Capcom needs to hire someone who understands what hair looks/moves like.
You make them sound like Yuke's.
And why is Vega looking like a pirate?
-
I…I don't know what that means.
-
^ Means there are worst developers who don't know how hair physics work especially those that don't know how to make them work without it triggering glitches.
-
Awesome news. Didn't expect my main from SFIV to be in the initial roster. Great surprise.
His new moves look really interesting. -
I'll be honest - I've never liked Vega, playing as or against him. And I'm getting a little scared that the initial roster is gonna be a huge SF2(+alpha)fest like last time.
With that said, he's certainly a surprising pick, I don't think anybody had him on their "leaked" lists. Between Vega and Birdie, Capcom is clearly showing they aren't just going for the most popular characters. So I can appreciate that, even if I would have preferred other unpopular characters…
-
This just made me remember that the name swaps are stupid.
I know. Balrog fits him SO much better. And "Vega" sounds way more appealing for a final boss than "M. Bison".
-
Vega is an Hispanic sounding name and last I checked The Masked Narcissist hails from Spain.
Balrog fits Boxer guy because it's a monstrous sounding name and boxer guy fights like a monster himself
Bison?…........don't got nothing.
-
Why are you guys "surprised" Vega was revealed? isn't he in almost all Street Fighters? I don't get the surprise.
I hope the new characters are all from countries not represented yet on Street Fighter, specially not from Japan or the USA since these two countries already have a lot of characters, I'm not expecting my country to appear but I still would like to see other countries being represented.

I have a question, the characters of Street Fighter III are chronologically able to be in the Street Fighter V plot ?
And I am 100% sure that the "classical" skin for Vega is the shirtless one.
-
-
He's M.Bison now
-
He's M.Bison now
First off, he was not born "Balrog". His name is Michael Tyrell Bison.
Also, the Vega video does a great job at giving him a backstory and justifying the "Balrog" name. So much so, that I've just accepted it as headcanon.
-
Fd@Big_Bad_Lith:

I was referring to The Big Boss Of Shadaloo who as far I know has no first name around these parts unlike Bison in Japan.

Possibly. As long as it takes place after SFIV, I don't see why not. IV had III characters.
Timeline:
I - 1987
Alpha - 1987-1990
II - 1993
IV - 1994
III - 1998-1999It never made sense for Makoto, Elena or Ibuki since that would mean the girls would have to be in middle school or something, since they're in high school in III.
We don't know yet when V takes place.

And I was referring to the opening line of the video I linked.
But yeah, nobody has ever explained why Dictator M. Bison's "M" stands for. A friend I know claims it's "Mighty", as he likes to introduce himself as "The Mighty Bison", but I dunno.

Your friend is great connoisseur of cheese.
-
I've always assumed the M still stands for Michael (IE: Mike). He's was at one point a dude with a normal dude name before he gained psycho power, his good side became an Italian woman and tried to take over the world.
-
I always thought that the M. stands for "Master", but ok.
About "country diversity in SF", I think that Necali was the one who was missing in the SF roster (and a character from Antarctica). But yes, we need more characters from Africa and Middle East, just two ?
-
My theory is that Bison actually just wants to be the little girl.
Now, his name is Vega in Japan. And there's a legend in Japan that the stars Vega and Altair represent two lovers (the Tanabata story) - Orihime and Hikoboshi, respectively. That's right, the same Orihime that the Bleach character is named after. A woman's name.
Furthermore, Rose is supposedly half of Vega's soul - and is a woman. And then Vega makes Cammy, a female clone, to potentially serve as a body host.Vega (aka Bison) is a girl's soul trapped in a man's body. Or, perhaps the body we see isn't even the ORIGINAL one - Vega was originally female, but transferred into the body of a buff Thai dude for the sake of gaining power, but plans to transfer back to a female form (Cammy) when world domination is complete.
-
Ahhhhh my head it hurts.
-
Some new Vega Gameplay
Im eager to try him out, since hes no longer a charge character i want to see if he works better to my playstyle.
-
Vega, you are from Spain, why the tyrolean song in your victory pose ?
Also, I liked his "fighting poses".
-
Vega has a babyface.
-
Vega seems a little too bulky to me. He was always thinner and more agile looking, but now he looks as large as Ryu or Ken. It's kind of awkward.
-
It seems Vega still have problems fighting wild beastmen.
-
So, Necalli has a slight stuttering problem. That's, uh, kinda different.
-

From what I heard, Super and Ultra are not canonic, only the first SFIV. And in that one, there was no III character.

That could be true for III characters, but I think most of the cast is canon. I severely doubt Juri and Hakan will be considered non-canon. Decapre might be up for debate.
-
Yeah, I think the canon storyline includes Juri, but Makoto, Ibuki, and the Twins being old enough to participate is just a dream-match kind of thing.
Though, it's not like Capcom can't just retcon whatever they want. They already have with Charlie. Woops, I mean, "Nash". :P
-
Charlie is still Nash, and vice versa.
Nash is Charlie's last name.

Where is Necalli from? Central America?
-
-
-
He is from New Zealand.
He is "probably" from New Zealand.
Really? I thought the dude was supposed to be Aztec, so Mexican or Central American.
-
He's from Peter Jackson's New Zealand I suppose.
-
I think it's his name is from the Aztec language, but there was news that there would be a fighter from New Zealand, or something.
At any rate, Necalli's been billed as a "unknown fighter" like Gill or Q.
-

Not only his name, but his clothing suggests an Aztec origin too.

Not only his name, but his clothing suggests an Aztec origin too.
He's also described as "An ancient warrior", so who knows, maybe he is an Aztec that's somehow been alive all this time.
….Because he's totally not a Pillar Man or anything. No sir!
-
Charlie is still Nash, and vice versa.
Nash is Charlie's last name.
They are calling him simply "Nash" in SFV, though. Maybe it has something to do with his transformation, or maybe Capcom is trying to eliminate name confusion.
-
or maybe Capcom is trying to eliminate name confusion.
Pah I'd like to seem them try.
-
Some more Vega&Necalli gameplay footage
And Necalli&Ryu
Sorry for the shaking camera.

Yesterday, Capcom released update file 1.02 and performed an "internal stress test" for the SF5 beta on PS4. The 1.2GB update will improve matchmaking and login when the servers go live. A handful of players were able to connect to the SF5 beta yesterday, but the server didn't stay online for long. Capcom stated that they are working to "re-launch" the SF5 beta as quickly as possible. That said, remember to keep your eye on the official Street Fighter Twitter for updates.

Capcom Announces Updated SFV PS4 Beta Plans
Early this morning, Capcom Unity announced the first dates for the "relaunch" of the SFV beta on PS4. The first regional "stress test" will begin in Europe today (16:00-00:00 BST) and continue tomorrow. If all goes well with the European test, Capcom will announce dates & times for North America and Asia, followed by the official global beta test. The global beta test will still take place for the "previously promised 5 days of time"… so the regional stress tests are just an added bonus.
Edit: August 24nd, 2015
After successful Street Fighter V beta online "stress tests" in Europe & Asia, Capcom will open up the servers in North & South America beginning tomorrow (Tuesday, August 25th) which will run from 4:00pm PDT to 12:00am PDT. The beta will continue on Wednesday (August 26th) during the same time period. After the stress test stage is complete, Capcom will announce the dates & times for the official 5-day worldwide beta test. (Source: Capcom Unity)
