Its because schoolchildren stayed awake to watch the Rock Lee Fight. Also we should discuss this on the designated TV Discussion Thread.

Ok. I wish One Piece was a better Ratings retainer, but Toonami is happy with the ratings it gets. The only way we can help is by twitting One Piece when it airs on Toonami.
-
One Piece is doing fine. Relax.

Yeah, it's under-preforming. It looses wayyyyyy too many viewers from Naruto.
This may LOOK good, because OP is still in the millions, but in reality it isn't
It's fine. Not in danger of going anywhere.
…Yeah, no offense but I'd rather go with the words of the professionals. And as far as they're concerned, they're really happy with One Piece (and by extension it's performance). There's so much more to ratings info and what it means for a show's future than just the pure numbers that someone posts online... People stressing themselves out with hypothetical situations like a schedule bump-down (not referring to you specifically) are just wasting their time.
-
Man Maron, it seems that Im liking you more and more.

I mean it's on at 1:00 a.m for crying it out loud, I could see any show having that much of a drop-off.
And as someone who really felt not starting at the beginning was too big of a risk (and I still think it would've done similar ratings if it started at episode one) I don't think that's a major factor if it is at all. Also I doubt "Attack on Titan" would come before "One Piece".

God we know, so what if One Piece gets put ONE WHOPPING HALF HOUR LATER? Its not such a big loss!
-
There's been shows at 1am who's retained viewers better. Soul Eater being the main one.
As for AoT… there's a good chance it could. It's effing huge here. It beats Naruto in manga sales here on numerous occasions.
It wouldn't be a long shot if they place it in front of One Piece or hell, even Bleach and Naruto. Space Dandy is only 13 episodes so eventually they'll replace it (unless they rerun it) I can see AoT gaining that 11:30 slot.
"Soul Eater" always got in the 1mil-900,000 range so it's not that much different.
Also "Attack on Titan" may be huge, but "One Piece" and "Naruto" are even bigger. Manga sales don't necessarily dictate what does better on Toonami. Also we don't know how long "Space Dandy" will be, it could be 26 episodes.

rome, i think u caused enough trouble already at the adultswim forum.
please refrain from the excessive, unnecessary worries/complains regarding OP being canceled or moved down the timeslot.other than that, welcome to arlongpark. i didnt know u were here.

"Sigh"
I have no right to talk, being banned before and all, but what did he do on the Adult Swim Forums?
-
he was banned 5-7 times for trolling the whole forum due to his obsession over one piece. death threats, cutting penis (i find it quite hilarious), suicide, etc.
i hope it doesnt repeat here.
-
God I did NOT need to know that. But thank you.

-
Believe me I have no intentions of fucking shit up here… everyone here likes One Piece so.... lol

I never was saying that. All I was expressing was that OP honestly isn't doing as "HOT" as everyone here thinks it is. And the thing to look at is loss of viewers, not so much only the total viewers. That's all.
One Piece is doing fine. Don't worry so much.
Franky says Relax.

so much feels yesterday at the end when they talked about merry.
i still remember the first time reading and felt as if im losing a friend:sad: -
Well after the holiday break, we return. Troubled waters for the crew ahead. Can't wait to see what the new viewers think.
-
I babysat the Toonami tag on Tumblr during the One Piece broadcast and, exactly as expected, quite a few people were pleasantly surprised from what I can tell. A lot of them mentioned looking forward to how Usopp vs. Luffy turns out. Next episode should be a real treat for them.
I couldn't gauge how many of them were actual new viewers of OP, but from how some of them worded certain things I'm pretty sure there were a quite a few OP newbies that felt the feels this weekend.
That's a job well done if I've ever seen one, and it only gets better from here on too.
-
I noticed that one of the commercial promos of this episode blatantly spoiled Franky's face…. It's really not a big deal but still an obvious mistake to make lol.
My DVR missed the previous action packed episode, so I'm excited to be able to catch the upcoming fight on TV finally.
-
i feel very sad for usopp leave luffy's crew. sonny di a good job voicing his.
-
The action really picks up tonight with CP9 striking. And here we go…..
-
Aaaand we dropped 200,000 viwers
-
Aaaand we dropped 200,000 viwers
Ouch, that's disheartening…
If OP is still struggling after all this, then I guess it just wasn't meant to be.
-
Guys! Dont give up just yet! Its NOT over yet! I finally understand why Jason De Marco doesnt want to go back to daytime. Its because at night he can "defend" weaker shows that arent doing that hot in ratings. Have faith and believe in Jason De Marco.

Here is the article for last Saturday-Sunday: http://toonamifaithful.com/category/ratings/
I really hope that One Piece get pushed back an hour or so. I can't be staying up every Saturday until 1:00 am for a half-hour show

Same. I did it once. I never did it again. Usually, I just record the show on my DVR and watch it later.

One piece is hard to appeal to the casual audience. You pretty much have to accept that. Wonky characters, slow pace story, doesn't make sense, etc…
-
I think that the rating issues comes from starting the show 200+ episodes in. The reason Water 7/Enies Lobby were so great and had emotional impact was because we actually cared about the characters and had been with them for so many episodes. By jumping in and losing out on all of the backstory, it's not that surprising why people aren't able to easily relate to and care for the characters

This. Until the next batch of consecutive fighting episodes, no one's gonna care about the rest of it because these characters mean absolutely nothing to anyone who isn't already an OP fan.
It's pretty much exactly what everyone had dreaded once they heard that Toonami made this decision to start 200+ eps in. I expect the next drop might be when Sogeking debuts because unfamiliars already seem to dislike Usopp since they lack the crucial context of the past 200 episodes. So when he shows up as the epic-as-fuck Sogeking, all they'll see is cornball Usopp being even more annoying. Goddammit.
I fear for OP's survival on Toonami guys, I really really do.

Consider that there was half a year's worth of episodes aired before they got to Water 7 though. Yeah, the Davy Back Fight and Ocean's Dream might have been fairly weak arcs overall, but at least starting off on some more lighthearted arcs would give newcomers some chance to get to know the characters somewhat. It's not like Toonami just dropped them right into "OH NO ROBIN DISAPPEARED AND USOPP IS LEAVING THE CREW D:" without any prior character-development whatsoever. Yes, they didn't show their introductions and such, but after two story-arcs, surely the viewers who haven't seen the show would still get something of a feel for who everyone are just through their interactions with each other. Sure, it's far from ideal, but I don't think it's quite as bad as you make it out to be.

I know this is going to sound stupid, but I really think FUNimation should…
A-Syndicate the first 200 One Piece episodes
Or
B-Ask Jason de Marco for another slot to air the first episodes.
Or
! Ask Saban if he doesnt want to air One Piece on Vortexx. I know, I know. It sounds REALLY stupid, but Water7 Ennies Lobby just CANT have the impact it had on us on a newbie who hasnt seen 200 episodes of One Piece. And Vortexx got better with the Violence/Death thing! I swear!

I meant that One Piece's ratings are falling because people cant relate to characters 200+ episodes in a series.

I wholeheartedly feel that this is just not the case. I mean, if this REALLY was the case, then how was DBZ able to really capture an audience when there was a whole series before it that laid the ground work? It just did. Hell, I've gotten into many long running titles by watching random episodes in the middle of arcs and so have many of my friends. I've never really known a person that "truly" gets into a long running show from the beginning (most of them just have very tedious beginning eps). If people aren't watching, it's sadly 'cause they just don't care for it. And what do we really have to look forward to in the upcoming eps? Getting away from Aqua Laguna and getting a sea train to pursue Puffing Tom. Tbh, it's gonna be "boring stuff" (to the masses) that works better when marathoning, so I won't be surprised if the low numbers keep up for a while, or if last episode was a fluke, and word of mouth will start bringing people in now that the "enemies" of the arc have faces now. Besides, the Puffing Tom transition arc and EL are coming up, and it'll be just be a bunch of fighting (and even then, we'll be getting those flashback fillers w/ uncut tellings of the characters' backstories)…so the fighting should hopefully quell the masses (idiots) that just want mindless action and no development, and the flashback fillers should be able to help fill in the gaps for those that still haven't seen the series from the beginning, uncut.
-
That's also true. I feel that DBZ was just more AKSHUN PAKD For their taste. One Piece relies more on Character Development and buildup and payoffs. Dragon Ball Z was a simple new beginning with new characters and a whole new plotline.
Actually I think there is something that can Save One Piece on American television for once and for all
….NETFLIX.
Yeah, Netflix. Breaking Bad got HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE after it got on Netflix.
-
If you say so. Netflix killed video rental stores…I liked video rental stores. Plus, I'd rather not be tempted to watch an entire series on Netflix and then never bother buying it (I'm a collector, and some surprise w/ new titles is always a perk). I may have seen all of what's currently being released atm, but it was years ago. One other thing...my internet sucks. Netflix video for me macroblocks like hell and took me around 1 hour to barely watch 30 minutes of the pilot to Walking Dead (for example)...so yeah, if it can help OP, more power to it, I suppose...but I'll show support by buying the DVDs and tuning in on Toonami just for the sake of it.
