Hello everyone!! I’m excited to announce the first tournament of the Arlong Park Smash Bros Community Tournament For Fun Circuit (better known as the APSBCTFFC). Match records here will be recorded for posterity, and players will be ranked. As expected however as with the ruleset, everything is made up and the points don’t matter. And so, without further ado, here I go to pick out this week’s theme from a hat…

Yes, that’s correct, the theme of this week’s For Fun lineup will help us decide whose Hank Hill is the true “King of the Hill.” For those of you unfamiliar with who Hank Hill is or what King of the Hill is:

What’s wrong with you
Hank Hill is a proud Texan who is the main character of King of the Hill whose commitment and dedication to propane and propane accessories is surpassed only by his staunch stance on staying true to his friends, family, and conservative Texan way of life. Also, he’s gonna kick your ass.
Heathens who have yet to add a Hank Hill mii can add one here:

“KING OF THE HILL” Ruleset:

Propane and Propane Accessories: Only the following items are allowed:
o Smash Ball
o Fire flower
o Hot Head
o Blast Box
o Bomb-omb
o Bombchu
o Motion Sensor Bomb
o Smart Bomb
o X-Bomb
o Gooey Bomb
o Hocotate Bomb
o Bill makes a special appearance as Bullet Bills
o Crates, Capsules (so containers in general)
Drinking Alamo beers with the guys: Four player free for alls, four stocks each. No time limit.
That boy ain’t right: Customizations on, any equipment choices you want including stat modifiers (Yes, unless equipment gets really out of hand in terms of stat modifiers, anything goes)
I tell ya hwat: Taunts must be set to the following. And yes, you must taunt after a KO:
o Up-taunt: I tell ya hwat
o Right-taunt: BWAH!!
o Left-taunt: That BoyAintRite (Note the space, otherwise it won’t show up “rite”)
o Down-Taunt: God dangit Bobby (Again, note the spacing)
Hell, or Dallas**:** The following stages are banned:
o All Omega forms
o Final Destination
o Mute City
o Prism Tower (which is essentially Lumiose City)
Workaholic: As with all for fun matches, I will be opening a form for you to send the wins for each match (so for each AP Tourney match, please please please save your replays so you can check them after), ranking each person from 1st to 4th. The form will be open once I make a set of mandatory matches, but you are allowed to send as many nonmandatory matches as long as all parties agree to it being a ranked match. If you do an entire four hour session of nonmandatory but ranked matches, then go right ahead!

It’s the first tournament, so just go crazy testing things out and getting the feel of things and playing one another! I’ll try my best to make some really diverse matchups so everyone gets to play everyone at some point through the For Fun forum!

Also, forcing us to taunt after a ko in a 4 person free for all seems a bit weird to me. It works in a one on one because the other person can't immediately fight back while you're taunting

(lol. The thing is my connection sucks guys. I would only hinder the tourneys with disconnects and also i only added my fc in the spreadsheet so everyone could see it).

That'd probably work a bit better. I still think it makes more sense for the first tourney to be more general though

Oh I realize, and I have no problems with specialty/theme tournaments in general. My issue is that I feel that as the first for fun tournament, it should aim to be as inclusive as possible

The way For Fun is gonna be built is pretty much complete versatility with customizing characters, so I'd like for people to build a fighter from the ground up and play with the customization options this first week. Ok, that makes sense I guess. Getting customization options does take a while, and mii and palutena are the only ones who have all custom attacks unlocked from the start

Next For Fun time is gonna be "everyone goes" was certainly my plan, so you can trust me that it's in the works very soon. I did think that it would be good to start off with a general theme as well, but I think it'll be neat to see what people will come up with, as well as the special properties of miis strength and speed scaling with weight and height.

There are no restrictions to what miis and what equipment you want to use at the moment, so you could make someone who fits your own personal style of aggression. In particular, one equipment that's been all the buzz are the smooth landing equips which basically auto-L-cancel if you lean more air game.

I'm a bit wary about certain items' abilities, but we'll just have to see how they play out in person.

I have just one Mii, which I call Chicken. Took it for a test run in Classic, somehow beat Master Core 9.0 even though this was my first time ever using a Mii. Guess I'll be using it lol.

For Glory: So it begins

OCTOBER 11 - OCTOBER 20 (adjustable pending participation)

Article 1: Rules
For the purposes of this tournament, we'll be following these rules

Sets of three matches (best two out of three)
3-Stock
8-Minute time limit
No items
No equipment
Custom movesets allowed

Ties
Sudden Death will not count in determining the victor(or victoria) of a match. Instead, the person with the highest number of stocks and lowest percentage (if stocks are the same) wins.

Article 2: Stages
The following is the list of stages we will be using for this iteration of For Glory. It may change in future editions depending on how it turns out this time and how competition evolves around this game.
I've thought a lot about this, mostly because I want a balance of fair playing as well as actual stage diversity. The choices below reflect what I find to be a reasonable outcome.

Picking stages, counterpicking, banning
Before starting the game, each player is allowed to ban two stages of their choice from the legal playlist. So, say, for example, I play Ganondorf and don't want certain disadvantages, I can cross off Reset Bomb Forest and Gaur Plains so my opponent doesn't counterpick them later on.
As we seem to be a tight-knit honorable community, I imagine it will be ok to just express these bans to your opponent when setting up the match in whichever way you do that (pm? skype? gchat? phone call?)

When starting the game, both players choose their favorite out of the first pick list provided and taking bans into consideration. Since the 3DS stage selection process seems fairly random as it is, I don't believe we can come up with a more fair system to start a match-up.

After the first match, the losing player gets to pick the next stage, this time including counterpick selections. What this means: find a way to be in contact with who you're playing, as online customization blocks out the stage choice option (for w.e. reason.)

Article 3: Rule breaking, Lag, and other issues
Lag is potentially one of the more problematic situations for us given the fact it can happen to anyone, it can happen at any time, and there is no cure.
However, we can work together to prevent it. If in the middle of a match try to minimize potential disruption as much as possible, such as streaming twitch and having netflix on your phone while playing.
If it happens during a match in a way it arguably affects the outcome, sadly there is nothing we can really do about it since I'm not entirely sure if the replay includes lag and I really doubt it does given how it works. Also, it is not the fault of the player. However, if you do know that you are experiencing terrible lag for w.e. reason, we ask that you let the other players know and maybe try at a different time.
If disconnected early during a match or mid-match we encourage that the match is replayed under the same conditions. That means the same stage, same characters.
If disconnected near the end of a match or in a match with lopsided standings (eg. one person has 3 stocks and the other has one stock and 90% damage) we advice that match is counted and the next match takes place. Of course, notice these are more than anything suggestions because we can't control all extremes.

That said, if you fear foul play, particularly during high-steak (mm, steak) matches near the end, you may request that a third party monitor the match by joining and then SDing. People you may ask for this include myself, Purple Hermit, and Demon Rin. If you're not participating in For Glory but would like to volunteer this service and have reliable Wi-Fi speeds, please let me know so I can include you in this list.

If you see or suspect that anyone breaks the rules, by doing things such as (but not limited to): picking a banned stage, exhibiting behavior that implies equipment on a character (no way Ganondorf is THAT fast), not turning off items, etc., then MAKE SURE TO SAVE THE VIDEO and let us know what the situation is. Keep in mind that if the other person challenges your claim the video will be the main source of evidence.
Players who are found breaking rules by ill intent will be forbidden from further participation in the current tournament and, depending on the time frame, may also be excluded from the following tournament. If in the top range of players, this includes forfeiting any prize the player may have earned. Smash ain't no joke!

Submitting Results
When the tournament officially begins, I will put up a google doc for you guys to submit results so we can use Purple's math and get to ranking everything.

Determining winners
At the conclusion of this series (tentatively October 20th) we will announce the top participants, who will then dispute position and prizes between each other. More details on this when the time arrives.

I believe that covers everything. Feel free to discuss or ask me any questions, but keep in mind that unless otherwise noted, the ruleset and stagelist for this tournament are final as of Midnight of 10/11, US Pacific Time. The tournament is set to begin at noon of that same day.

I feel like everyone here knows how to counter Little Mac pretty easily, and it would be pretty stupid to use him in Glory 1v1 matches.

Yeah I'd say it was 50/50 between Palutena and my Greninja. I really need to get practice time with him more often, I feel like he's untapped. You really gotta watch out for Shadow Sneak (even though those were the most satisfying kills for me), as that got you a bunch, especially from off the stage.

The ZSS WFT was an excellent match also, though with a dumb input malfunction suicide on my part.

It was also the first time I've ever faced a human controlled Rosalina, and it was pretty interesting trying to figure out how to go about it. I was glad I was able to two stock Roasalina as Little Mac, since I've spent most my time training with him to overcome his weaknesses and to learn how to play unorthodox with him as he is one of the most predictable characters in the game (a big part of me really wants to be Little Mac so I can overcome common counters against him). It helped once I realized Luma couldn't actually walk forward by herself, and tried to strategize around that.

You're definitely excellent all around, and a blast to play with! (though I still can't take Wii Fit Trainer seriously…)

Who do you think I'm best with? Since I honestly don't know and am still undecided towards my pick for the tourney.

Being by far the best player among my local friends it's really dfferent and exciting playing you guys who are as good or better than I am.

I'm like Goku and I've won my local Tenkaichi Tournament, but then all of a sudden BAM!!! Vegeta and Nappa show up (from across the internet). They would wreck my friends so I fight, and I'll either lose or barely win, but either way I'll give it my all and train harder because of it.

So what I'm trying to say is that my friend's are Yamchas, while you Arlong Parkers are Saiyans.

Considering that we all seem to be getting used to customs and miis in general, it should be pretty even (except for Rin who apparently has made a really great combo with her best friend.
