I'm just glad it didn't go into Endless Eight territory. :X
Space Dandy

So what do you guys think about the English Dub? I've only seen the first episode dubbed so far, trying to stick with subs for the most part.
I've found that I usually can't appreciate the dubs since they lose a lot of the cultural references. But, how does Space Dandy come across to you all? I can say that I like the English Narrator's voice a lot. -
The English dub gets on my nerves between the narrator and QT's voices. I also prefer the Japanese OP (though the EDs are both good).
Another good episode this week. Looks like we'e on track! I just wish they touched more on the entire space war thing. I know the gag is "oh yeah, this is going on, too" but I'm always left more interested in what's actually going on than that joke expects.

QT's english dub voice also really annoyed me. One of the reasons I immediately switched to subs.
I like the JP OP so much more, too. It's hilarious seeing Dandy dance as he sings. Where he sheds his jacket, lol.

Well we know that the opposing empire has deployed Ideon.
That's something.
Also, guys, the calendar was stuck on 8th of whatever, they took 108 days to finally notice the loop and the episode premiered on March 8… this was totally a jab at you know what.

Oh dang, nice catch. I guess it did go into that territory after all.
-
What the heck
I love QT's english voice, she's cute as hell and makes my ears swoon

I don't know what.

I don't know what.
The second season of Haruhi Suzumiya had this thing called Endless Eight where it pulled a groundhog day… by repeating the same thing for eight whole episodes.
It caused supermassive shitstorms back in the day.
-
^ This exactly. It's been mentioned already in this thread (this page, even)

Yeah, I actually feel really stupid for not getting it. Even though I've seen people make the reference.
-
My mind didn't go to Haruhi immediately. I just thought 8 was used because it's a sideways infinity sign and often the shape of mobius strips.
-
I thought LOST would be a reference, given 108 and all.

It's a reference to the 108 sins/temptations of the Buddhist religion

What bothers me about QT's english voice is the autotuning. I can't stand listening to that for some reason.
It sounds way more natural and far less grating in the JP version. QT actually has just a normal voice, albeit cutesy and high.
This episode had me in stitches! The scene where they were out in the field with the calendar was oddly reminiscent of Office Space and the printer, for me.
And then the reveal and Meow's chainsaw attack was just too much, haha.
-
Speaking of references, looks like Meow's dad was making Gundam parts
Also
-
That part of the episode was really funny:
Cast: I know exactly what happens next… Is this precognition?! Are we super heroes?!?!
Narrator: NO!!!! It's a loop. A loop, guys. Baka.I was really cracking up almost the whole time, and Meow's interactions with his old acquaintances and family were deliciously awkward.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also, Yahoo answers and "Google it". Seriously?! Hilarious stuff.
-
I actually love QT's english voice because the autotune makes her sound like, y'know, a robot.
-
Hey, I get that. Doesn't change the fact that I can't stand hearing it. Something about it just kills my eardrums.
-
Holy fuck I just burst out laughing at this. She's actually…
! Ahem.
http://puu.sh/7ozqP.pngThat killed me
-
So it looks like this week, Space Dandy had a…. book end.
YEEEEAAAHH
-
This episode was just plain creepy somehow.
It's like it was a completely different series…

More like they are trying different kind of drugs when planning the episodes.
-
I totally loved the episode again.
It was awesome how the gift that the librarian left for them was a memory in a box, that they then forgot again. Very interesting concept for an episode, and for an alien, and I'm loving that Dr. Gel is getting fleshed out more.
I especially loved how the episode was being illustrated as if in a book. It was an excellent way to make it seem like we were seeing a book's memory.

Let's not forget the tone of this week's episode felt far more serious than normal.
I wonder if Space Dandy could make a cameo on Super Robot Wars some day.

Can't say I've ever seen Super Robot Wars. It sounds interesting, though. Is it funny like Dandy? Or more serious?

SRW is a sorta SRPG video game series that features giant robots from all over mecha anime landscape.
-
^ Gotcha. Well, I'd be surprised if the Aloha Oe doesn't end up making an appearance at some point, then.
-
New episode aired but I can understand why nobody really cared, it was one of the weakest ones so far IMO.
Anyway, some other good news.
-
You're kidding me! A second season?!
I haven't watched the new episode yet. I bet that I'll like it, though. This show really hits a sweet spot for me.
-
Are you kidding? This latest episode was a delight to watch!
Maybe I just like lighthearted episodes with lots of humor. :p
-
Yes! Black Tsuchinoko, YES!
Double Dandy??
Final Dandy…? :getlost: LOL
QT was great this episode.
When Chameleandy started being all nice to QT and Meow, I was like, dead giveaway. But then they wanted to pick him over the real one for an upgrade, LOL.
Drowning in a whirlpool of thought... who cares?! HAHAHA
Damn, I loved this episode. The Abbott and Costello bits were pretty funny, too.
-
I guess you're right on some points, even if it seemed disjointed to me and the gags about the Chameleandy started getting stretched for its own good, it's still got some great moments:
!
!

That first gif is so good that I may need to upgrade my AV.
Final Dandy…?
Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to get it to animate. First frame is pretty good, though, so I'm sticking with it.
I got it! YEEEAAAH
-
The anouncement of 24 Space Dandy episodes desilusioned me into thinking the series will go on this season, till episode 24. But now we have to wait nearly half a year for more Dandyness? That is impossible…

Um, you do know that Current Space Dandy actually ends at the 13th episode and that the 2nd season IS the rest of the 26 episodes?
-
Space Dandy is awesome, looking forward to more of it in July too, baby. Space Dandy is Space Dandy, baby.
-

Yeah, now I know. At first I thought we're getting all 26 episodes in one go. Thanks anyway, I think I'm going to watch Planetes now, to fill the gap.
-
So we have to wait for more Dandy? Why oh why :cwy:

Those gags were hilarious
-
The first OST came out yesterday, and I've been listening to bits and pieces of it throughout the day. I never realized how many different composers this show actually has. It's really awesome from what I've heard so far though.
-
Well, the season finale just ended, and I gotta say I really like the episode. It was great to see QT get the spotlight this time, since he's really only been the straight-guy or comic relief. The writers really know how to add that relatable human element to their characters, especially the ones that aren't human ^^
It was very impressive first season as whole, July can't come soon enough.
-
Wow, what a great finale. The music during the giant robot battle was so good. I totally agree with you, Samwize. They really know how to make you feel for the characters. I loved this episode even more than the one that featured Meow and his family.
I can't wait for the next season to start tying together all the loose ends - Dr. Gel's constant experimentation, his discovery of the killing secret of the universe (and does he still remember any of it?), Dandy's inexplicable luck, and just who the hell is Admiral Perry, really?
It's going to be a wild ride, I can tell!
-
I agree, a great episode to close the first half of the series, QT was pretty sweet here and it was nice to have him as the pillar of the episode. The music was beyond good, especially towards the end, it helped the emotional vibe of the scenes.
-
So QT's fight went full Evangelion, hehe.
!
-
I've already got that Dandy Wiffdraw. :(
-
Yeah, Space Dandy had a pretty great season finale, but sucks that we have to wait till summer.
Each episode stands on it's own merits in a series like this, but the average quality has only been going up for some time, so I'm hoping the upwards trajectory continues into the second batch of episodes.
-
QT nooo… ;_;
Was it explained in an earlier episode why do The Bad Dudes want Dandy?
-
He apparently holds a secret which would help Gel and co. to tip the scales of the war in their favor.
-
^ Are you kidding? Dandy's secret could loosen the very fabric of the universe. I can't wait to see what he's got in store.
I couldn't stop laughing when Dandy drew the (.Y.) on the paper in episode 11, and then Dr. Gel saw it in just the right spot on the monitor. Turns out that bewbs were the solution to the ever changing truth of the universe.
