The joy of WoD is already starting to wear off and I find myself playing the game less and less, barely even going in to do the farmville grind. It's especially depressing since the guys I use to do RBGs and arenas with seem to be just as reluctant to play and we haven't got any decent games going for a while.
BUT.
Today when I logged online a quickie to do some farmvilling before moving on to another game I got snagged by my raiding guildies and dragged through Highmaul HC. It was nice but as a long range dps I found it too easy, there wasn't much for me to do (only one guy required you to run around like a mad man to avoid fire). I had only done the first 3 bosses before on LFR, I hadn't read any tactics beforehand, since everyone else knew what to do no one really explained anything and I STILL managed to survive through it all with little dents in my armour. If this had been back in TBC I would've wiped the raid a few times. I was carried pretty heavilly, since I mostly (99% of the time) just PVP these days - and as a healer to boot - my gear was horrible (I got some items that would otherwise have been DEd and managed to switch out some 620s and 630s with 670s) and my dps worse . I was, not surprisingly, at the bottom of the dps meter but still. It… shouldn't have been this easy, should it?
I would like to try it on mythic but my gear and dps would have to be improved by then... and I'm not sure if it would be worth it. Or maybe the Blackrock Foundry will prove more exiting.

How far?
I mean, your description doesn't fit the Imperator fight.
Everyone has to know the mechanics and pull weight on that one, and if you're the ranged DPS I would think they'd assign you to bounce the debuff away, no? -
How far?
I mean, your description doesn't fit the Imperator fight.
Everyone has to know the mechanics and pull weight on that one, and if you're the ranged DPS I would think they'd assign you to bounce the debuff away, no?=d Not all of them on mythic but a few. And the Imperator, well, people just got the debuff and seemed to know what to do with it, when to run away etc. It actually confused me because I got it too and I just ran away with it since that's what I was told to do… but before p4 wnot many things happened. You moved in a group, moved out of things when they happened, took down the adds and when you got the debuff you... moved away. Hm, I think there was probably a few tactics about that debuff they didn't tell me about but it looked easy and it... kind of was easy for me? If that makes any sense? I still don't really know the tactics for any of those bosses, I just rolled with it.
-
No, if you didn't know, you probably did it wrong, but someone picked it up off you.
You can't move out of the circle area, or it teleports you back while you have the debuff.
The debuff will jump to the nearest person after 4 seconds, and each jump the range it will jump gets less and less. You can't just "move away" and get rid of it, since it teleports you back. If you thought you got rid of it, you simply shoved it to someone else in your team.
What you are supposed to do, is move to the edge of the teleport limit circle, and another person (a ranged DPS) comes with you.
You sit there until it bounces between you and the carrier, and after certain number of stacks, the carrier guy takes it further (since the circle resets to your center every jump). At this point the original carrier will run back to the team. The debuff will set off away from the team, since the jump radius is reduced. The "carrier" will either just take the hit (not recommended) or Deterrence/Iceblock the hit.
EDIT: Alternatively you can just let it bounce around in the team, until the stacks gets high, then move out with a ranged DPS and he will take it from there.
-
Ah, that… explains a few things. And no, I didn't get an assignment like that, so someone must've snagged it from me. I didn't get teleported or anything either so I guess I must've been lucky.

Some more datamined information from 6.1 has revealed that there may be a "Veteran Edition" coming soon, which will allow people to play their characters without a subscription fee (but with vast restrictions).

It was a nice system, indeed. I still have no idea why they retired it.
In other news, Blizzard is sending gifts to players that have had a World of Warcraft account since the game's launch (within 60 days specifically).

I started in 2007 myself, so I won't be eligible, but I'm curious to see what this gift will actually be.

This is nice but I wonder if the restrictions also apply to player created channels (you can just type /join insertnamehere and you've created a new channel others can join. If not that might be the way to go in the future. Letting you play with your friends from time to time without feeling you have to play since you payed money for it.

Hm. Does it only apply to people in the US, though? Or in Europe as well? And what happens if you got several accounts with characters from the first account split into new ones? Would there be a chance to get several gifts if you have several accounts? And what if you've not subscribed all the time, etc? I'm really looking forward to finding out more about this.

Europe is eligible as well. Not sure about the second part.

Mythic is piss difficult, but if you are like me you will be bored out of your skull from doing Highmaul on 3 different difficulties over and over. Mythic is hard and it would be fun if you could do ANYTHING except for Highmaul. Blizzard keep on yapping about players missing endgame content, but they compensate that by making you do the same stuff over and over and over. There wouldn't be any need for mythic if Blizzard just stood by their own formula and released meatier challenges in the first place. I mean, when TBC launched we had 5 raids of varying difficulties and progression through them was mandatory. Pve has lost me completely, the PVP is still alright I guess, if it weren't for Ashran sucking so badly and being forced down all pvpers throat, PVP would be the only thing I would spend my time with.

Finally got my ring upgraded to 690. That 125 Abrogator Stone quest was a pain.

Yeah, until your stacks get high, you don't have to really worry about the mechanic since the range that it can jump in the beginning is huge. It's certainly more of a problem for melee. My raid team isn't super amazing and we end up with a few really low dps, so we're struggling at the last phase when all the shit is hitting the fan. We'll probably get it this week though.

Selfie cameras folks. That's a "defining" feature of 6.1.
-
There's a TON of great changes in 6.1 that answers the general "lack of stuff to do".
Having dungeon daily and raid weekly in the garrison is great.
Especially the dungeon daily, that also rewards chance for epic loot is exactly what heroics needed to bring incentives back. -
So did anybody try the new raid?
We did a spontaneous normal run yesterday to get a feeling for the encounters. We cleared gruul, the beastmaster and the twins (Hans and geht Franz or whatever their name is) and I must say that I love the new mechanics.

In Blizzard's latest quarterly report, World of Warcraft was reported to have dropped down to 5.6 million subscribers.
- Blizzard Entertainment had the largest online player community in its history, with Q2 MAUsB up 50% year-over-year. Though_World of Warcraft_ ended the quarter at 5.6 million subscribersC, Blizzard revenues are up year-over-year based on strong performance across the expanding Blizzard portfolio. On June 23, 2015, Blizzard Entertainment released, Fury of Hellfire, one of the largest non-expansion content updates to date for _World of Warcraft._Thisnew content helped stabilize the subscriber number towards the end of the quarter. World of Warcraft remains the No. 1 subscription‐based MMORPG in the world.
I personally haven't played since the beginning of 6.2… and before that, I hadn't played since 6.1 came out. I definitely wasn't expecting such a huge drop in the numbers though.
I'm just going to hold out for the next expansion. Hopefully they can refine the daily system into something better and refine/remove the Garrison system that is basically an idle system at this point. Even if an eventual 6.3 happens... I can't see it fixing the current expansion at this point.

"World of Warcraft: Legion" was announced today.

Feeling hyped for tomorrow will we rename this thread or just make a new one?
Couldn't this just be transformed into the general WoW thread? It doesn't really boom much with activity after all.
-
I get the feeling that a lot of whats going into WOW Legion was going to be in the patches for WOD - but they've realised people are over WOD and need to kill the brand.
Hopefully Blizzard will give the Alliance something more than a guest role in this expansion.
-
Demon hunter seems cool….wonder if they'll keep it elf only - they never seem to stick to race exclusivity for long.
-

If I was to speculate - it would be Elves for the expansion then next expansion they'll have people become Demon Hunter trainers.
I would speculate Trolls and Worgan or Human get access to the class with their own storyline for how they joined.
Pretty interesting - I might actually consider resubbing and getting WOD. Skip the Garrison stuff though.
-
I remember originally Death Knights were going to just be humans and elves, but they opened it up to all available classes at the time because people Rrrrraaaged. But it looks like the demon hunters have a lot more added physical features other than just pale skin and glowing eyes (wings, hooves, scaley skin, etc.), so I think it'd be a ton of work for them to do that for a lot of models. Same reason why druids have always been limited.
-
well lorewise illidan only had bloodelf and nightelf followers so i think they will keep it that way
-
I kinda want to get back into the game but I haven't played in a couple of years. I have no idea what the state of my account is in. Or how lost I might be since storywise I lost interest after tryimg out a little bit of MOP. Would it be confusing? Or overwhelming? There's been a few major patches since 2013 right?

It's pretty easy to just come back - Lore isn't as important as it used to be. If you buy WOD you get a free boost to level 90 and can just power through the leveling zones and get some carries for gear. Then go back and do the old quests to understand whats happened - each expansion has been pretty self contained lore wise with little need to have done prior content.
-
I've started playing again recently, and am having a blast with doing Mythic Dungeons, which I ignored back when they came out due to burnout. Hoping to be able to start doing Hellfire Citadel in non raid finder difficulty soon, since most of the encounters look really fun compared to what I encountered in Highmaul/Blackrock Foundry. Then there's the new timewalking rewards and dungeons that'll help to make things even more refreshed from time to time. Even though the expansion burned me out pretty quickly at the beginning, coming back to a sizable amount of content is probably going to make it more fun as I wait it out until legion.
Also, for anyone interested, Legion pre-orders were made available a few weeks ago with the official release window being announced as Summer 2016. You get a Level 100 character boost (the level 90 boost was replaced by this in the store as well), along with early access to Demon Hunters. Then there's the Digital Deluxe Edition, which comes with everything mentioned before, along with the usual pet and a mount, and some content for Blizzard's other games. Legion is shaping up to look like a much more exciting expansion than Warlords. Although, I did think this in comparison to Mists when Warlords was announced… but I'm hoping this time I'm right.
Lastly, if there's anybody who is interested in starting to play the game, it's on sale for 5 bucks. You get a free month and can level to 90. Warlords is also on sale for 12.49, so if you've been waiting for a price drop on that, now is the time. Both of these sales end on January 4th.
Oh, and Gnomes can be hunters in Legion.

Oooh lookie what I got in mail.
I've had the same look on my character for years, including some time during TBC. Especially after transmogs -

I haven't played since Cataclysm, but this might just pull me back in.
Smart move to finally release the classic game. If not every Night Elf player would be rioting.
I'm not sure if I want to play the new expansions or vanilla. There's a lot to catch up (and a lot of money to spend) before I can get into the new expansion, but I'd love to experience this as it unfolds. I wouldn't do a whole lot in vanilla outside of being a "tourist", but man wouldn't it be fun to walk around the old zones again… It'd be nice to experience the classic game play too.
-
In World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, there is only grim-darkness, dark-grimness, and STALEMATE.
-
I thought Cataclysm through Warlords of Draenor were a bit disappointing, but Legion has actually been a really great expansion. They're Still putting in major end game updates and it's not over yet.

That sounds promising! I've seen some of the screenshots from the expansions and they look so pretty! Night Elves are my favorite so it's nice to hear their expansion was good.
What worries me is the gameplay changes introduced since Cataclysm. I'm a "tourist/exploration" type player who plays solo to experience the surroundings and atmosphere. It's the leveling and zones that matter to me. After Cata it felt too streamlined, like I was forced to go on quest that wasn't mine, and that really turned me off from the game.

I don't think it was really a Night Elf expansion. There were certainly a lot of Night Elf characters involved, including their long lost descendants, the Nightfallen in Suramar, and also the druids of Val'Sharah, but the focus on the expansion isn't really on them.

Another nice thing about Legion is that they made each zone scale to your level, so you could choose to go to any zone first and end whenever you want, no more "I have to go to this zone first and that one last because I won't get enough XP". There has been plenty of story in Legion, lots of cool mini cinematics, plenty of things to do solo.

Expansion looks fucking great.
Baby got their bottle with Classic server, but whatever.
-
Couldn't wait and joined a private vanilla server. I thought I'd be massively disappointed due to nostalgia blindness but… I wasn't. It really feels like I'm back, playing the same game I loved so much. There's something about the old experience that just clicks. It feels like everything you do matters. There's of course a lot of downsides as well, like being stupidly hard at times and the gruesome leveling, but it's still fun.
Id' like to play regular WoW side by side to compare, but I really don't have the money to spend on either subscriptions or legion right now. Which is a shame, I want to get to max level before Battle of Azeroth and explore more of the cataclysm-era maps before they change. Modern wow has a lot of good things too, and I've heard the latest patch was amazing. I really want to try it out properly.
Anyway, the reason I'm writing here is because after playing on the private server I wonder how successful classic will be. There's clearly a lot of interest in it, and I'm glad Blizzard will put out an official version of vanilla. But I suspect what most people want isn't to play old WoW, but to relive old WoW. And thing is, that's something I think only private servers can do. Kronos for example will release a new server in March where they'll periodically release content like Zul Gurub and Ahn'Quiraj, complete with patches mimicking actual changes that happened in the original game. And since it's a private server it has a very particular community feel to it. Only players who care enough for vanilla bothers to download it. And because servers are frequently taken down you often have to restart, which keeps the community alive.
As for classic, I suspect it'll have a lot of players initially, but as the game remains unchanging people will eventually drop it and it'll die off. And there's already debates between people about what version of vanilla Blizzard should chose, if they should update it, etc. Since this is the official version, people with set high standards and eventually be disappointed when the game doesn't cater to their specific vision.
Or maybe it'll stay alive like Everquest, but somehow I doubt it. It'll be interesting to see.
-
Wow, the biggest game that I don't want to play, but I want to learn about. 2 years ago I caved in and leveled a warlock gnome up to the frozen throne content by myself, it was fun~ish.
The quality of the content is way too over the place, is expected as it's a 10+ years old game, with weird areas where some cataclysm content coexist with vanilla content (I think?) and the world shakeups that don't trickle down to early areas.

In the latest patch of Legion, this problem has finally been at least touched upon. With a big statboost for all the levelling content, along with scaled levelling, that allows players to choose between Outland and Northrend and then later, the Cataclysm and Pandaria stuff. People complain, of course. But I would strongly recommend returning to wow now if you wanna level. You'll probably find it alot less dull .
-
At the very least you get more variety and choice in your leveling and fine have to work about out leveling anytime soon.
In any case, I just finished the Before the Storm book and wanted to share some thoughts. Though I'll keep spoilers, even in tags, to a minimum.
! First off, God DAMMIT Calia!
! That said, I think this book's ending Matt set up Sylvanas for a choice between her personal power and the welfare of the Forsaken. If the ending leads where I'm suspecting it might,*Calia may be the answer to Sylvanas's goal of preserving the Forsaken, but it's going to come at the cost of a threat to her power she's shown unable to tolerate even in the relatively harmless Desolate Council. Also,*I'm annoyed they left the fate of the goblin and gnome couple hanging, with them presumably dead. -
The whole community was put aflame on Tuesday and then Thursday Zappyboi saved it. This week was funny as hell, bfa is fun before it even starts.

It amuses me greatly seeing all the love for Zappy Boi
