I think the movie 7 designs are slightly off, but overall I agree with with Pirateneko that even that I like way better than the way they used to be drawn, personally.

the thing is, they look more mature, yes the girls are way to skinny, but they are just really stylized. i can tell Oda has a good grasp of anatomy to where he can do what he wants with it. that's why i love Oda, he's just too awesome and i love how creative he gets with his characters.
it sorta reminds me of how some american artists draw females the way they want to, like how J Scott Campbell draws Dangergirl… all those girls are way disproportioned, but its the way the artist draws them, he's got his own style that is slightly influenced by manga. the same applies to males of course, not all guys have muscled hard bodies like super heroes....
-
I rather don't like their necks, but the new style has been growing on me.
-
Oh, pirate neko, I know Oda is a good artist, and I LOVE how creative his charicters are, I just perfered everything before when everyone's features were more rounded.
actually, it makes me think of dragon ball. Toriyama's style was more rounded when he first started, and it got more angular, although, I didn't mind either of Toriyama's styles.

You know one thing that bugs me about the Usopp character sheet…they were too lazy to fore-shorten his nose. XD C'mon, it's not that hard, Oda does it all the time. The funny thing is the bandages in W7 make it easier.
-
yeah, that bothered me too a bit. well, at least we know that Oda does it right, since it is his character after all.
@Captain Usopp
yeah, that's true. Toriyama's style has always been my favorite, even when the characters got really angular. i adore his original Dragonball style.

On the topic of How to Draw Manga books, I actually found one that is very helpful. I finally found out how to draw a good body, and the later chapters cover perspective and how to make a good comic (the proper placement of speech balloons, mainly.). Of course, I had been drawing manga for two years already, with the help of a thinner beginners guide, so I kinda already had a style. Really, it's a very complete book and very helpful, especially the later chapters. It's called "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Drawing Manga Illustrated" and it's by John Layman and David Hutchinson. Just in case you're interested.

Thankies much for the settai pre links; they're quite helpful, and me thinks I'm going to have to eat Movie 7 Robin now.
Anyways, I'm very happy for the guide to Robin's eyes. I doodle eyes all over my school work, and lately all I've been doing is Battosai's eye. Now I can do do Robin. :P

I'd like to know how some people draw with a tablet and have it come out looking like pencil. Just practice or anything I should know about the settings/preferences in the tablet or software programs? Like what tools, opacity/flow and such do you think works best?

Thank you Neko!! I didn't know about all those presets. ^_^

It's not really that difficult, just make the paint brush thin, light grey and smooth.

CosmicDebris and e1n, YOU GUYS ARE MY FREAKING HEROS!! :w00t: :w00t:
I mean seriously, you guys just don't know how much this truly means to me! Those tutorials and stuff should definitely help!
I just recently got into drawing myself and I always had trouble drawing Robin, but now thanks to you guys and this thread, I might eventually be able to draw her nicely and once I am good enough, I'll even be able to make artwork of her for my current project as well as for my futrue projects to come.
Once again, thank you!

My advice would be to look at reference pictures and use the mirror.

grab your blanket off your bed, throw it back on all messy like, and start drawing the folds and curves. You'll really learn how fabric works after doing this for a while. Even I'm still learning to draw folds etc, convincingly. If yoru ever sitting around bored, start staring at someone's clothes, how it hangs off of them, and wraps around the body. This is what I do.

sorry to double post, but I want to bump this back up so people can answer MY question.
I wanna re-color my chibi samus picture digitally. I want some advice from one of you who is used to coloring digitally and stuff. What would work best.
1: outline the drawing, and color the second outline.
2: go in with the eracer tool, and take out the color from the pencil crayons.
3: just recolor over the original scaned color.thanks for the comments.

No, really, I'd like to learn how to do that. ><
~captain usopp, I don't know much about coloring digitally, but as far as I know working with a black outline should be much easier and look cleaner, so that's what I would do.
