I stopped reading Gintama. Only sporadically found it funny, wasn't invested in the characters, etc.
Read last chapter on a whim.
I have no idea what the context for any of that was, but it was amazing.

That's true that the first chapter weren't very good. the manga really started after kagura's father arc so if you stopped before reaching this arc you missed the whole manga.
Because epic chapters like this one aren't rare in Gintama
I would kind of like to see Gin and friends become a sort of revolutionary crime lord group after this arc. I mean, I know the status quo will be reset somehow, but wouldn't it be such a neat twist if this arc would be a serious game changer? I know I'd be interested.
I think the Shogun will kind of reward them for stopping the stupid uncle.
I mean, he was all serious last chapter.
But it wouldn't be a bad idea, Gin teaming up with Zura. :ninja:
Gintama is a manga that just never fails me.
Ever.
i want to see gin fight the shogun. Hell i just want to see the shogun fight that would be awesome
Just finished catching up. Latest chapter was niiiice.
I'm not as into Gintama as I'd like to be. I can see that it's good, but I don't find it that funny since a good portion of the jokes are pop culture references or wordplay that gets lost in translation. Serious arcs like Benizakura are cool, though.
Besides babby Gin sitting in a pile of dead dudes eating something, were there any background chapters that weren't translated (there're about 10 missing in the website I frequent, not counting the recent Elizabeth arc)? I remember missing chapter 165 the first time, and then when I went back to find Takasugi had a big part in it.
Maybe we'll get some more background info this arc, given the amount of people calling Gin "Shiroyasha".
! Splendid as ever.
Okay, that last picture has convinced me to skip the gap and keep reading the manga so I can find out just what the heck happened XD. Gin-san has never looked so serious!
There's both of his battles on the 4 Devas arc.
The episode of the underground battle ring.
The whole Benizakura arc.
The underground citty arc final fight.
The screwdriver's arc final scene.
Gin has to many great moments.
Here, I finally finished this…

thanks a lot kewl.. the anime is catching up very soon… but i think they skipped some chapters.. ?? ... this weeks episode is super awesome.. :)
The anime is ending/going on hiatus again in like 2 weeks, I believe. Also they always skip around. And we're doing the chapters as they come out in Jump, so they can't "catch up".
Thanks again! You guys are awesome!
Is there any news somewhere about Gintama anime going on hiatus?
Thanks Kewl. Great work.
Did anyone notice the hand of Gintoki in this picture?:ninja:
!
Thanks Kewl.
And "It is useless of time" is such a epic phrase.
Fucking read more things:
http://hiwamatanoboru.com/2012/03/16/gintama-392-release/
Ok, I think I can take a break from this now…
Awesome chapter.
Looks like the Yatagarasu won't be a fodder as I thought they would…
! Now, this is interesting, Gintoki's past finally comes to light… I'm guessing after all of this is over, the Yorozuya won't be having their normal lives... I doubt we'll be seeing Katsura here, but he'll probably appear for the arc's aftermath...
Who is that? I watched a lot of the anime episodes, and those that I haven't read doesn't sound half as serious as needed for Gintoki's reaciton.
Thanks as usual Kewl!
So we're gonna get some more Gin backstory?
YES.
YES.
This arc's getting better and better. Just epic.
! I hope Zura will appear, he always wears the same clothes than these monks so he might be already there.
And I really think that the statu quo will be somewhat altered after this arc.
Gintoki's background? This is awesome.
I've been waiting for this for a long time.
Here, I finally finished this…
http://hiwamatanoboru.com/2012/03/16/gintama-volume-41-release/
Thank you soo very much :D :D :D You guys are epically awesome!
Don't you think this pic of kagura and shinpashi in front of the gards is epic?
!
Actually, no, the whole chapter is .
I hope that this time Gintoki's past will be more developped than the few last time where it was seriously discussed (I think only during Benizakura and Jiraya's arc and it was a few pics).
Maybe that we'll finally know the cause of Gintoki's sorrow, if you look at the corpse in the battlefield they're all Joui (Gintoki's comrades) and there isn't any amanto.
Oboro maybe the cause of Gintoki's troubles…
Kintama arc starts in the anime next week. That was fast, they really are running out of material
Sunrise is such a troll. If they stop the anime with such a cliffhanger, I'll laugh a lot.
Lake Toya has been forgot.
This week's chapter, as well, is the best chapter ever:
http://hiwamatanoboru.com/2012/03/22/toriko-180-gintama-393-release/
I hope you all remember the Tendou Sect.
Your friendly neighborhood law enforcement.. Oh gods, why doesn't Sorachi do these kind of arcs more often. This is exactly what Gintama's been missing for a while. My only fear about all this is that the Shinsengumi and the current Shogun will sort everything out in the end, thus retaining the status quo. You people have made me hope there'd be a change.
oh wow. Amazing chapter. It made me have a feel man :')
Finally, it seems that it'll be the most important arc since benizakura. It's been a while…
Sorachi must be thinking about his 400 chapter...

This has not been a good month for Jump anime…

Eh. It'll start up again when there's enough material for another long run.
I'm starting to wonder how long Sorachi plans to keep Gintama going. Now that we got this arc, there's only a few more serious arcs it can have (and if it went on as just comedy forever, it would get stale).

But thats what gintama is:a comedy/gag Manga. Which is why we don't get many serious crazy $h*t arcs like this all the time. The action sequences and battles are just gravy or icing on the cake if you will.
Question: when gintama first went on hiatus, how long did it take for the anime staff/producers to say that this will just be a short break? And that they will be back

You know it wont be strange if he says that after such an epic and serious arc, he has the right to take a break with gag and lazy stories for a whole 100 chapters.
So even if he has only a few serious arcs possible it can still take years.
! So the Muramuragumi are attackiing the Bakufu, and their chief is Takasugi's ally, well I think this arc won't stop getting better, only Katsura's missing…

Indeed, but unlike other comedy shows/manga- like Kochikame or the Simpsons- Gintama has continuity and issues that need to be resolved.
Sorachi could just leave them hanging and go on forever, but people are gonna miss that creamy delicious filling of action and seriousness if he goes on for, say, 5 years with nothing but comedy happening.
And now that we've got this nice tasty caramel nougat of backstory that's finally being unwrapped from it's shiny silver foil, we could very well be seeing one of the biggest plot points in Gintama finally being resolved in the not-so-far-off future.
So what does that leave us? Takasugi and Kamui, evil amanto shenanigans, and whatever everyday happenings are going on in Edo. But once the former two are done with, anything else will seem pretty miniscule since they're the ones getting the series-wide buildup.

True, and I guess if he had to wrap it up,he could do some type of distant finale type of thing after the "big battle". Even though it follows the "nobody ever ages thingy" (or the sazae San format as they call it)
And I'd be lying if I said the action arcs didn't matter.
I always thought (a selfish thought/wish) gintama was the type of setup where it could go on forever, regardless of continuity. I mean their freelancers. a different day,a different job.
And once the main battle was done takasugi/harusame/kamui,they would work on coexisting with the amanto and such. I think gintama could could run on for quite awhile imho

This week's episode was pretty damn awesome, hilarious yet touching.
Ah the old ben jhonson's joke never fails to make me laugh.
I've been missing episodes like this one, totally random, where the staff make a mess and tease everyone.
I hope that they'll be back soon. I'm looking forward to see this current arc animated.
i imagine we have a year or two to wait. It's good arc to come back on though. Gintoki returns after a long hiatus just to end up being replaced as the protagonist lol
My only dissapointment is the lack of the Laketoya chapter.
Wonderful way to go on Hiatus.
Gintama apologize for offending people?
Offend everyone with the apologies.
Win.
Finished this chapter.

Yes, most definitely.
This arc is really shifting into high gear now.
This is amazing. This arc is just getting better and better. And the ending for this chapter was great.
…again, I haven't read all of Gintama, but this really feels like an end-of-series arc.
I don't think so.
And the friggin' Shogun! He is one of the most epic characters.
wow the shogun and he isn't unconcious!
now looking forward to see wich shogon Oboro will join and when takasugi will come?
The murawaragumi are already his allies and it won't be surprising if sadasada is also.
Ok. With that last page it official. This arc trumps Yoshiwara/Hosen arc for me.
Great chapter, although I have to say that it was pretty obvious when the guy shot gintoki that he was delivering an antidote so that Gintoki could be useful again
