Like Schwerer Gustav said, it's the best story you'll never see… I got to see most of it, but it was a long, long time of playing. The gameplay may have been frustrating and difficult at times, but the story was definitely worth it.
SQUARE ENIX - Single Player RPGs are dead?

Fuck you, SquareEnix. Honestly, you have to rely entirely on characters of past games to keep us interested in your newer ones. That's not the fucking issue.

Final Fantasy 7 pack. $40
Play with your favorite characters from the popular classic and watch how they have zero influence over the context, gameplay and story.
Get your Buster Sword on! -
If they add Ultros to DLC, I don't care, I'll pick it back up just to have him as a party member. I hope his Sync moves summons Mr. Chupon to "sneeze" the enemy away.

Have you played 13-2?
I love how people keep asking me this, when for me to be able to play through 13-2, I have to play through 13.
What is so different about 13-2 that means that I have to play through all of 13 to get to? How is it an improvement? Please tell me.

Who needs an ending when you have Cloud!

You get a crappy plot and annoying characters? Seriously. if you want a good time travel game both Chrono Trigger and Radiant Historia are there. If you want a good SquareEnix game both Nier and Dragonquest are there.
13-2 is so bad it's certainly not worth going through 13 for. Even if 13 is better.
-
No Final Fantasy can be as bad as Mystic Quest. That was just… ugh.

I am saying how do know if it's a good game or not if you haven't played it. It's like calling a sequel to movie bad without seeing because you hated the first one. Your not giving a fair chance. And reallly you don't even need to play 13 to play this game.

But if I absolutely hated the first game, what incentive to I have to buy the sequel besides "You're giving it poor judgment" do I have?
Don't worry about it. Either way, I'm going to buy the sequel someday, since I'm going to force myself through both cause I'm a masochist or something.
Either way, they shouldn't be relying on characters from past games to improve on their game. I'd rather they remake FF5 and FF6 for the 3DS than put their villains in FFXIII-2, but you know, that takes things like….effort.

I don't see how this dlc improves the game. This dlc comes across as fanservice offering old charcters from past games to older fans of the series.

Lifecycle of the FF thread:
-updated about upcoming game
-everyone bitches about upcoming game/ some are cautious yet hopeful
-Conversation segues into all out critique of franchise and square-enix as a whole
-Everyone starts talking about older final fantasy games
-Topic turns to discussion/debate about favorite/best final fantasy
-Updated on new game (go back to top)/New game comes out (continue reading)-posters express feelings for new title in several sub steps that take place over time
(A) it's good but I dunno
(B) Final Fantasy__ was better
(C) Meta game talk while posters are playing (tactics, dungeon's, weapons, secrets, levels, etc)
(D) FUCK THAT ENDING
(E) On second thought… fuck the entire game...
-Overall disappointment for new final fantasy game

But how can you say "Fuck that ending!" to XIII-2 when there isn't one?
-
Touche… ummmm....
then just skip to the criticizing square enix step

How many of those are still around?
A lot seeing that FF games still sell.

But how can you say "Fuck that ending!" to XIII-2 when there isn't one?
Alright I really don't want to defend this game but I have too. This game story has an end to it. It's about Serah and Noel beliving that if they can stop Caius that will save the world…and it doesn't work out so well but this game story has an end. The DLC are just piece of storys that happen during the game and maybe after the game. I don't see this as being so bad because other games have done this. Mass effect 2 recent dlc, quest for botty, Dragon age orgins, or even Prince of percia where they sold you am epilouge.
-
There's a difference between selling an epilogue, due to not finishing it by release date, but still containing a solid ending in the plain game itself, and making a game with no ending unless you wait for DLC you have to pay for.
-
FF7 had a cliff hanger too.
What exactly was left hanging, other than vagaries of "And then this character went on to do X with the rest of their life?"
It resolved the plot, stopped Shinra, Sephiroth, and the meteor, and showed the world survived (Which was a separate problem from meteor.) And we got plenty of Red XIII.
It may not have been a lengthy half hour ending with each character getting one last moment to shine like in parts 4 or 6 like folks wanted, but it did have an ending and resolved all its issues. (Squeezed in sequels aside.)
Lifecycle of the FF thread:
Its kind of like the Sonic cycle.
In both cases I've given up on the franchises ever being what I want again, so I've stopped caring. (Or at the very least, hoping) It makes things easier.

Okay, good point with the ending, actually.
And I can't compare this to the Sonic series.
I don't want Final Fantasy games to be like past games. I just want them to be good, and FFXIII wasn't. If they want to go back and redo something they did in the past, sure, great. But I get why they want to do new things, and it's good for them to do new things. Just….make sure they're good.
Also, I really, really, really, really, really, really love Sonic Generations.
-
After finally getting Sonic CD like 15 years later I finally realized I'll never be happy with a Sonic game again, and that's it me, not them. So, I gave up and don't care anymore.

Just out of curiosity, which Final Fantasy game was the one that made you stop caring?
-
My last real Final Fantasy concern was "I sure hope XIV recoups when 2.0 drops because they have some pretty balls to the wall awesome ideas to make it not suck."
-
Just out of curiosity, which Final Fantasy game was the one that made you stop caring?
As far back as 8 and Chrono Cross on the PS1 the cracks were starting to show. Where I liked a lot of it, but was also unsatisfied with a lot of it. I really actively disliked and hated nearly everything about 10, and it was almost the last straw(But I loved 9 and enjoyed X-2, so there was balance) and I really, REALLY wanted to love 12, but it failed in a lot of ways and I was pretty much done at that point. Toss in Dragon Quest 9 being blech, and everything I've read about 13 makes me certain I'm not interested, just further enhancing the stuff I don't like and having even less of what I enjoyed.
I never actually finished 10 or 12, but I suppose 13 being the first one I've opted not to even bother with and have no interest in makes it the official point. (Well, no interest in the online games either.)
They've kept me reasonably in their graces with the PSP games for the last several years, mostly.

I don't see why you say this game doesn't have an ending…..it does!!!!!! The story the game tells has a ending....all this dlc that suspose to take afterwords will just sets the events for ff13-3....and this isn't the only game to do this. There was Ratchet and Clank tools of descruction, Mass effect 2, and even Fallout 3 DLC takes place after the game ends.
-
Didn't they say there would be no XIII-3? And there was an article on here saying that the real ending to the game would be future DLC. And I can't think of any game that's made the basic ending to the game DLC, and it's a dick move on Square's part.

Notice how Fallout 3's ending was horrible?
-
Fallout 3's ending was horrible, but it was still an ending.
Either way I think Lord Monkey D. doesn't know the difference between an ending and an epilogue.

Dude SE trademark 13-3 like months ago. And are they suspose to say we have a sequel coming right after the new game comes out…no..no one does that. All they said was that the to be contiune ending doesn't mean there will be 13-3 but it Could be DLC.
-
Gamefreak also trademarks random pokemon game names, doesn't mean they make them. It's to stop other companies from doing it instead.

Why when they own the name to the pokemon series?

I know it was horrible but the story they told ended. I am not talking about the quality of the ending I am here to say it has a ending. Heck I don't like the ending to 13-2.
-
My friend who played the game said yeah it WAS ending
then it didn't and it sincerely cliffhangers
everyone says it has no ending and I trust them
-

Yes it's has a cliffhanger ending and it's opening up for dlc or a whole new game. But the main story of this game ends.

I stopped caring when I discovered developers that weren't Square. I respected Enix as a publisher at one time, and I can't really bad mouth them, or blame the merge for their undoing. It's really just Square losing their prime, and old developers.
There was a time were they seemed like they really loved making games. But those were simpler times. The ambition is probably still there, but there's just so many factors that come to mind with development and releasing a final product to the market. This is just mere observation, but what I see with current FF titles is them being more movies while gameplay is just an add-on, or process to advance the movie. I can also say it's the result of lazy development, but when I look at their smaller titles that's released on handhelds, I can't help but think otherwise. They are obviously cutting back, which is shame. Not that I mind. There's developers I follow that are beyond Square's old and current prime anyway.
-
No, the main story looks like it's going to end, then it just doesn't. A cliffhanger works if there is a confirmed sequel, but not if you're adding it on a DLC later.
-
Hey guys XIII as a whole sucks ass let's talk about games that do have endings.

I agree Square needs to figure out what they need to do and do it or else they are going to get left behind.

I guess the confusion is coming that yes this game does not have an ending since there going to be some sort of sequel to it….but the story of this part of the trilogy or whatever has an ending and that what I am defending.
-
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1218042p1.html
It says in this article that the story isn't finished, and will be continued in DLC. That means it does not have an ending. That should be the end of this argument.

Can we please talk about something else…..how about type zero?
-
It says the story for XIII-2 will conclude through dlc. That means you'll have to pay 30+ dollars to get the ending to this game
-
I decided I didn't care about FF after 12. I was losing interest after I traded in 10 (something unthinkable to me for previous games ) and skipped x-2 after playing like an hour of it. Didn't give a damn about 11 and 12 just wasn't what I thought (despite being a good game… it let me down. Didn't even finish it).
13 was the same case.. and by the time 13-2 was announced, I had realized it wasn't so much the quality or my expectations, but the fact that I just didn't really like the JRPG genre anymore. It all just feels the same to me.
-
just kinda started FFXIII weeks ago and right now the Battle Paradigim system is a little annoying.. so far the game isnt too bad in terms of gameplay and battle mode..but the gil systems isnt good due to little gil increases at a time
Also bought Origins.. I like it but whats the difference between the PSP/GBA/PSX versions?

Wonder what they got planned…....FFVXIII media blowout?

I know I said I'd get back to you all once I finish the game, but since I love dolling out the FFIX hate, I'd just like to say Fuck the Hippaul Racing minigame! I mean, I hate button-mashing minigames as it is, but this, just….....fucking THIS! Actually it's not even just a button-masher, it's one of those games where you have to alternate pressing two buttons!
So apparently you have to get to level 80 if you want to get the rare, one-time-only key item. I stopped at level 50 and I thought even that was ludicrous. And yes, I know it's just a sidequest and it doesn't need to be done, but the programmers still put in there with the expectation that you would discover it and play it if you so choose, and you would enjoy it. Yeah, nothing says enjoyment like alternately mashing buttons as fast as you can 64 times in a row, and that's not even counting the countless dozens of other times that you'll inevitably fail at it.
Oh, and did I mention this even a game that you can try and then come back to later in that game. Nope, there's only a very small window in the game in which you can play, so if you want to get that one-time-only rare item, be prepared for the delightful and rewarding experience of alternately mashing buttons for what will most likely be several hours, without being able to do anything else, least of all proceeding with the game!
And no, this is of course not the first time Squeenix has pulled this shit with their minigames and sidequests. Hey guys, here's an idea, try making a minigame that's challenging, but fun. Don't put in the games that came out of Satan's toychest. What the FUCK were they thinking?!
I dunno. Maybe I just suck at button-mashers (sorry, "alternate" button-mashers).
Other than that, this game just keeps getting better and better (and I mean that sincerely).
-
No one likes or is proficient at the minigames in FFIX. Unless they're some sort of otherwordly being or masochist.

Oh yeah, Chocobo Hot and Cold is okay. So is Tetra Master.
