River Song wearing the eye patch…
That thought crossed my mind once, but I didn't really think much on it. Maybe she's just disguising to throw some villains off?
Screw it, I'm just excited!

God, this is going to be so great. And August 27th? That's honestly a bit earlier than I expected. Can't wait.
And yeah, I was kinda hoping we'd get a new companion next season, but who knows; maybe Gillan's just going to get a guest appearance.
You have no idea how badly I want sound to hear that trailer. Haven't actually seen it on TV yet, that obviously means I need to watch more TV ;)
(but seriously, what was the gist of what they were saying? If someone would be so nice :) )

Thats the best part of the River regeneration reveal. She can be multiple actresses, and multiple characters, but without whatever Timelord thing it is that lets Timelords recognize others immediately. She could be a recurring once a season character for the next 20 years like the brigadier or the master, without being chained to a single actress…
though I'd hope we'd get the front end of her stoy and payoff of her not knowing the doctor anymore while still in Moffat's hands...
Long as the former is around to do a backwards regeneration pass.

Oh I could still still access the trailer, I just couldn't hear it because my sound card is a jerk xD I nicked my sister's laptop to hear it though. Thanks anyway Flux~
I'm quite happy the Silence hasn't been completely wiped out. For some reason, I thought the opening episodes would be their only debut, but alas, I am an idiot. The fact that they are gonna reenact the Minotaur maze in a hotel-like setting will be fun…and I'm even happy the angels are back. All in all, I am very excited.
Awesome trailer. Great to see the Weeping Angels are back, but then…i kinda figured they might be based on that "secret" video revealed on theri website way back.
Hopefully, we'll actually more of the Silence......this time. Its driving me mad..trying to figure them out..i just have to know the truth.
Btw Nash looks at the Candy Patrol this week
So did the Silence have anything to do with the TARDIS exploding or not…guess we may see in the second half since they are confirmed...

Yes. Its already been confirmed they were responsible for it. The Doctor mentioned right at the end of The Big Bang episode. Right after Rory tells him to relax and have the day off the doctor says "All of Space & time is in danger - something drew the TARDIS to this point in time and then blew it up…..the Silence whatever it is...is still out there" Something like that. And Steven Moffat also confirmed himself.
That Silent from the trailer looked like it was underwater...or maybe in 1 of those Labratory test chamber thingies...

Ha ha, since when do any alien races get completely wiped out in Doctor Who?

Don't the Daleks get pretty much fucked to near extintion on a regular basis ? :ninja:

But they're always back. Doesn't count XD
Ummm. Wasn't the Fish Vampire things killed off? I can't remember.

Until they show up again.
Silurians and Time Lords were wiped out too, after all.
Well. In the case of the Silurians we've had a few different strains of them. Aren't the new Silurians supposed to be a different type to the Classic Era ones?
Time Lords I'd say since there's the Doctor they're never extinct. I guess with the Master and Jenny out there it don't count. (does Jenny count?)
We did see the last of Boekind die tho.
We did see the last of Boekind die tho.
Not really. There are plenty of humans still around.

I meant Face of Boe. We don't know what Jack did to turn into him. Unless all humans turn into that after few thousand years lol Did say he was the last tho.
Oh and Chantho's race is probably extinct too. But I guess at that point of time pretty much every species would be.
I meant Face of Boe. We don't know what Jack did to turn into him. Unless all humans turn into that after few thousand years lol
All humans die before they reach those years.I don't really think Boe counted as a new species. Assuming he does, the term last of his species loses its impact when at the same time, it's the first of its species.
It did say he was pregnant at one point. All I'm saying is that at some point he coulda changed into something else.
or that he was just given that title and it means nothing to the Boe we know.
Kinda spoils Torchwood a lil knowing that no matter what he'll never die anyways XD
Sad The Weeping Angels are back. Like River Song, it feels like they've had their brilliant stroke and are being whored out now.
Also RTD purposely left the Boe thing open so you can believe what you wish, like he did with The Doctor's Mother.
Hopefully the angels will be scary again this time. Considering they were more powerful, at full power, and there were hundreds of them… they were less threatening the second time around.
Maybe because the doctor was actually on the scene rather than a normal human following vague instructions, maybe because the crack was given more priority as a threat near the end... or maybe because Amy closing her eyes worked... for some reason... but they were less scary.
I'm okay with them coming back in and tying into the current arc since these two seasons are intertwined in a big loop and some backwards travel and River and Amy and all, but hopefully given one more go, they'll then be given a rest for a while, or they'll become as defeatable as the Daleks or Cybermen.
And yes, now that they know who and what River is, hopefully next time she shows up the interaction is bit different. Less of her knowing more than the Doctor and "spoilers!" and more... something else. (Evil brainwashed? Child version? Different regeneration?) I imagine them sheerly sharing a timeframe for a while and having a bunch of adventures in order would make a difference.
I think the angels lost some of their intrigue when they were killing people normally instead of sending them back in time and feeding off the years the people missed.
@RobbyBevard:

I agree - really hated that part.

Im hoping they'll bring back the original Angel killing meathod…at least it was a more humane way of killing their prey. I really wasn't a fan of the two parter Angel episodes in favor of 'Blink'. The Angels were much more creepy then.
I'd be okay with the eye closing thing if the explanation was "Your eyes are always working, they don't stop when you close the lids. It's a psychological thing. Keep your eyes closed and the angels can't tell." It would have been a weird explanation and still lame, and forever rendered them more vulnerable, but… better than "oh they're distracted, they won't notice until they do"
Well they were a little preoccupied with the white-time-light-of-death, so I don't fault the angels not paying attention….

Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't that idea contradict the whole "don't blink" thing?

Except it was presented NOT as a choice the angels make, but something completely automatic, that they can't help. Its why getting 4 of them to look at each other traps them forever. (And having an entire cavern of them should be really impractical.)
They ALREADY contradicted it when it was blatant "yeah, they won't notice you have your eyes closed because they're too busy running from the crack." If the Doctor, after several encounters with them, had figured out a quirk or flaw in their BIOLOGICAL AUTOMATIC defense system, in a moment of desperation, it'd be okay and it'd have a logical explanation. Result of the synapse in the brain that causes blinking (or the lights flashing temporarily taking away your sight) being what allows their movement. SOME sort of technical explanation.
But for them to just sort of stand there while the girl with her eyes closed totally stumbled around and they just have no idea? That made them look really stupid, and contradicted the "auto defense mechanism" and "don't blink" bit ANYWAY.
Not like its a trick you'd be able to do every time since you'd have to still be able to move around to escape.
This reminds me, I'm finishing Buffy soon and I think I'll progress to Angel (though I supposed it'd have been best to have watched it simultaneously with Buffy).
There's a video interview of Matt Smith/Karen Gillan from Comic Con. Some interesting information was revealed about the Silence. Apparently, they are some kind of "religious order" or something that have been around since the beginning of time - and that they were behind the kidnapping of Amy's baby.
This whole religious order thingy sorta reminds me of that reference to "The Disciples of Light" back in that episode "The Satan Pit" as this ancient order that Imprisoned the beast in the asteroid.
It certainly makes things alot more interesting…nice to get more info on the Silence too..
I'm glad even Matt Smith bows to David Tennant… Tennant was the first Doctor I saw when I got into Dr Who and fell in love instantly.
John Pertwee will always be my Doctor. (It's almost always the first one someone watches at length, apparently.) Tom baker was brilliant of course, but to me he was always "that goofy guy that came next." Really enjoyed Tennant, LOVING Matt Smith combined with Moffatt as show runner… though a season of Tennant under Moffatt would have been brilliant.
Speaking of which...
Karen was on earlier in the week, too.

Wow, Matt Smith loves rap. That's…weird. Now I'm picturing Dr. Who doing a beat.
My favourite doctor is either hartnell or eccleston. Kinda hard for me to choose between them.
I got into Doctor Who with Tennant and loved him for the first few episodes I saw him in, then someone lent me a Series 5 dvd and I became a big Matt Smith fan. Going back to Series 1-4 after seeing 5 was bad… it's aged so much.
I agree with Robby, though. Tennant with Moffat would've been awesome, plus with the better cinematography they use these days.
I think I saw Eccleston first, but Tennant's quirky acting was what brought me in and kept me. Then I got into all the classic stuff as well. Love Troughton, Tom Baker, McGann etc
I believe that Tom Baker was the first Doctor I ever watched, the episode I think was…Pyramids of Mars. After that it was hints of Eccleston, then Tennant was the one who I first watched the whole series at once types of deals.
As for Moffat + Tennant, yeah that would have been a brilliant series. I mean we saw what Moffat could do with the other Doctors he wrote episodes for and those were brilliant.
And also speaking of Aging Badly. "The End of the World" which was the second episode in Ecclestons run was on Watch today. Good lord.
End of the World was never particularly great anyways.
As for the Tennant era the only ones I can even watch anymore are Moffet's (and Human Resources and the Ood two part…oddly enough Rise of the Cybusmen and Age of Steel stayed rather the same too.)
Its true whilst it was never exactly a standard of quality. Just the effects and everything.
I remember seeing Tennants first season was on demand for awhile and eurgh. I cringed as I went through it all.
Yeah i think when it comes to Tennant episodes, I only ever really watch Moffat ones…I was going to say and this one...but then I just realised, no not really. Nothing off the top of my head. I suppose some of his final season, the Donna stuff had some watchable episodes in.
I can still enjoy the Eccleston and Tennant episodes (except love & monsters), even with the subpar effects.

Human Resources?? Or do you mean Human Nature?
Y'know, still to this day, The Christmas Invasion hasn't aged… for me. It was the very first full episode I got to watch, and it was quite the first impression. It was a great, lightly snowing day, as I just got done with my last class as Thanksgiving break started. So it's purely nostalgia when I watch it.
Did you all see this trailer yet for part 2 of series 6? Not the comic-con one…

Nice. Mostly stuff from the Comic-Con trailer, but some new bits. More Stetson Doctor, pterosaurs, giant pyramid labeled "Area 52". These next six episodes shall be a treat.

Epic trailer. I hope to God we get to see more of the Silence this time. Need more Silence damnit. Show us why they're so terrifying….what are they really up to...and why all of this elaborate plan to bring down the doctor with the impossible astronaut...
So it looks like we will be getting a prequel for the next episode on Monday.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/news/bulletin_110812_01/Available_Monday_The_Prequel_to_Lets_Kill_Hitler
And here's the prequel.
New Companion!? Crafty Moffat lingo though.
Amy and Rory will return for S7, but it sounds like in a very limited capacity, ie, perhaps only in one or two earthbound stories as guest appearances.

Yeah, it sounds like their appearances will be similar to Martha's in Season 4.
