If it is not allowed, I absolutely will. But right now, discussion of Coby is as relevant as it was 4 years ago, and perhaps more so due to new information. I think Coby is an interesting character for a variety of reasons, and as far as I know the purpose of these forums is to discuss our interests with other fans of the series.
Coby's potential

Wait, what new information?

Wait, what new information?
Woops - I was almost certain this thread was from RIGHT before the war of the best (only read the first few pages). Turns out it is not, and so you are correct: no new information :P Though it's worth thinking on, if you like Coby anyway, nothing new here apart from some more community discussion. Sorry for accidentally misleading!

Luffy will oneshot Coby few more times, but EOS Coby will be equal or slightly stronger than EOS Luffy.

Slightly stronger? That's an unusual view - do you think something will happen to Luffy, like Gol D. Roger's disease or something? Or do you think that Coby will be able to catch up and surpass Luffy himself? I'd enjoy reading your opinions :)
-
As someone said, Smoker will probably be Luffy's Garp.
That means Coby will be his Sengoku, imo. -

Coby is probably the only person in the OP world who's improving at faster rate than Luffy. So if we assume that he'll keep on improving at the same constant speed, given enough time he should catch up with Luffy and maybe even surpass him. But for this to happen I think we're gonna need 1 more time skip.

That means Coby will be his Sengoku, imo.Smoker really after PH that guy has zero credibility I think Luffy would beat him quite easy at this point IMO. Coby on the other hand am expecting him to be a beast after 2 years training under Garp. I think he's criminally underestimated on here.
-
Story wise, Smoker seems to fit the Garp role (assuming this era will even mirror Roger's at all, that is). Garp was very strong, though, and though he couldn't beat Roger he could hold his own. I think you're right that, currently, Smoker couldn't mess with Luffy. I wonder if/how that will change… One thing to consider, though, is that a smoker/luffy fight has a different dynamic than a lot of one piece fights. He may get manhandled, but if he can get his sea stone onto luffy he could very well turn the entire tide of a fight. That being said - Luffy knows about Smoker's weapons, and is probably just way too fast to really be susceptible to them.
I do expect Coby will be insanely strong, I just don't know that he'll ever top Luffy. I do think, though, it will be a battle worth looking forward to. As Mortein said above, he is progressing pretty rapidly - realize that by the beginning of the series, and for about a year thereafter, he was a cabin boy (for Alvida then the marines) and basically not training at all. By marineford, he explicitly unlocked observation haki (while Zoro and Luffy always seemed to possess a latent capacity for it). That's a testament to his potential, I think. He is also one of the most ambitious characters we see, and probably THE most ambitious good marine (it might be said that Sakazuki is quite ambitious as well, but of course (1) He's a real jerk and (2) he's probably already reached his potential, at least strength wise).
I think the most ambitious good guy marine is probably something pretty darn significant.
-
I'm skeptical about Smoker=Garp. If anything I think Coby fits that part better. He has no DF ans he's actually friends with Luffy. Smoker is just obsessed with the SH's and besides the refusal of promotions he isn't really garp-like. I can see Smoker becoming an Admiral??(lol). Maybe idk what to think of Smoker after PH. He got shafted in every possible way

Oh you poor deluded people.
Coby is a captain. The crew fought off two hundred of those during Enies Lobby. He is about as threatening as an owl fish right now.
Plus, he is a good aligned marine. That basicaly seals his fate as never being capable of doing anything of note.

Well that first part is true. I mean, Luffy basically Bellamy'd him in the war, and I don't see that being any different right now.
That being said, I disagree about his alignment limiting him. I would call Aokiji "good," and he made admiral and was recommended by Sengoku as his replacement. Plus - and I'm not saying this is my view - it is generally accepted that the WG will either be abolished or reformed at the end of the series. If it is reformed, a good aligned marine will probably have a lot to do with that (whether or not that's Coby). Pirates who, other than being chased by the WG, don't much care about the WG won't be reforming it - even if they make reform necessary by shattering its power structure. That basically leaves Dragon, and good aligned WG officials.

So you think Coby will be irrelevant for the rest of the series? I think you're underestimating his growth potential. Just look how he was at the beginning of the series. Oda clearly has big plans for him.

Last I rememebered Captains can't use haki or master of the six fighting style. Oda stated that Coby has now mastered all six fighting style plus his haki, and if I remember again only Vice admiral and up can use haki(or is required) but a mere captain has it and is a master of six fighting style.

A) Where has Oda stated that?
B) Tashigi has haki. And at least one of six Rokushiki styles. And is a captain.
C) Coby is a captain as per SBS nr… 68, if I recall correctly.

I think every good aligned marine is going to be pretty irrelevant as long as they actually remain marine.
And my believe stems from everything Oda has done thus far.

I'm not gonna waste my time to search an article where Oda said such thing. Go look for it yourself, it was an article interview with Oda or something, where Oda sated COby rank and him being a master of the six fighting style now and Kizaru being stronger than he was two years ago.

See, here is the thing: That's not going to be even part of the series.
Every good aligned marine showed thus far was either completly useless, or made to lose at whatever they were trying to do by circumstances.
You would call Aokiji "good", but he only succedes at doing bad stuff. Like killing his best friend, for example. Oda is unwilling to allow any good aligned marines to actually do anything good, because Revolution must be fully justifieable. Just look at the current arc. Or the one before it.

That was volume 1000.
You know, the very same that states Coby's rank is a captain?

Here you go, it's even on Aohige words.
First, the article talking about anime getting first look at post-skip Coby & Helmeppo, along with Oda's sketch of them and his setting, said "Coby learned the Rokushiki".
Then in the film Z issue 1000's rough sketch, drawn by Oda, says "Coby has mastered Rokushiki" and he also has advanced CoO. In Oda's own handwriting.
Nothing about his extent of mastery on other forms of haki though. Here, pics.
Oda's involvement has actual solid, on-paper-proof.
EDIT:
Don't forget that the CP9 guys having been training since they were kids before they could master the six fighting style but Coby did it within 2 years and on top has monster COO haki. -

Not questioning the authencity, since I simply forgot it existed. More importantly, Coby, regardless of what he has mastered, is still only a captain. His relative is strength is equal, or a little bit above Tashigi, and we saw how well she fared.

Nah it's way above Tashigi. Don't tell me you also forgot Oda stating that Captains stationed in Marine HQ are stronger than any other captains. Like for example: if a rear Admiral from east blue goes to HQ he will be like a Captain or lower level there.
So don't go thinking that Cobys Captain level is equal to Smoker or Tashigi Captain level. Why did you think after Timeskip Oda made Coby captain? Because Coby is stationed in New world HQ meaning if he goes to other bases he will be like a rear admiral or somewhere like East blue he will be like a Vice admiral level guy.
Now you gonna ask me when Oda said such thing, well whenever I find it I will show ya. My memory is that good I remember old stuff.

Smoker was HQ captain.
So was Hina. And T-Bone. And Shu. And Very Good.
You want to lecture me on the marine matters? Really? It's basicaly my whole bloody theme here.
