Both clips from episode 238 (gerusama version):
"Ruffy" - 1MB AVI
"Luffy" - 300kB AVI
I just thought this was peculiar.

Hmm, interesting. Nami really says Loofy here. But then again, I´ve never hear Nami say Roofy anytime now that I think of it. Is it possible that it is because of her voice actor, since most of the other characters pronounce it like an r?
I dunno, I was thinking maybe it's a male/female thing, or alternatively, a rough/gentle distinction. (ie, making it sound more like "r" is more badass)
I can hear everyone say "Luffy"
but I distinctly hear Franky say "Monkey D. Ruffy!"
It's more like a pronunciation type
The guys probably put more with to it making it sound like "r"
Just a question about this, how does Chopper sound, I don't remember is it "l" or "r"
In Skypiea they said Ruffy alot, but we can all see it should be Luffy and that depsite how tricky it is to say for them (the Japanese) they do sound distinctly different.
it's just like they say Dracule; Jillacule
Well, they usually use some sort of an "inbetween R and L"-kinda sound. Evidence is that Ivotas almost always hears "R" and SereneCrimson almost always hears "L". I tend to hear "Ruffy" more personally, but a friend swears he hears it "Luffy" most of the time. It's kind of like a spectrum between the two. I posted these clips because I thought it was remarkable that they went to the extremes of the spectrum here, you can hear a distinct "R" and "L".
