Okay, went to the comic shop today and got issues 1-2 of Nation X. This probably wasn't the best place to get started in comics. I liked Kurt and Logan's Road Trip (I think I have a perfect signature I can make from that) and Jubilee's story cause it's Jubliee.
So, I need to know what series I need to buy. Old or New, any series canceled or ongoing, just as long as it's not too expensive. I think my comic shop has a good catalog. I wanna get started in comics, and forgive me if walking into my comic shop and seeing what I see is intimidating to me.
Depends on what type of stories or genres you're interested in.
Kairouseki's list is pretty good, but if mature comics aren't to your liking…^_^;
I like mature anything, believe me.

The Killing Joke is on the top row with I guess what's considered the most valuable or best or something. Hopefully it's not too expensive, because I've always heard about that comic.
The paperback version is incredibly cheap, the new hardback version is about the standard hardback price. It's not very long.

How is Jack of Fables? I don't like Jack's character in the series, and have read that the book wasn't as good as Fables.
It's a lot lighter in tone then fables can often be, but fun and enjoyable.
Jack is far more likeable then he is in Fables - he's still a total scumbag but he's no longer pathetic.

^Old Man Logan is great; it has fantastic action and the story's neat. Plus it's drawn by Steve McNiven; he may be a slow artist, but his work usually pays off.

Read Hellblazer #264 today! I thought it was a pretty decent end to the India storyline.

Agent Orange was awesome, same goes for Rage of the Red Lanterns and Sinestro Corps War. Pretty much everything Geoff Johns has done with Green Lantern has been gold, but specifically everything after "Green Lantern - Wanted" has been excellent. Have you read any Green Lantern Corps? That's an awesome read, every single volume of that is great.
Blackest Night has got to be the best crossover in comic books since Civil War, although it feels like Blackest Night has been better implemented than Civil War was. It also feels like the fallout from everything happening during Blackest Night will have major impact on the DC universe over the next year with "Brightest Day" coming out bi-weekly with 26 issues throughout the year. Especially with Geoff Johns now head of the creativity department over there.

Blackest Night isn't out yet in book form, there are still two issues left to release. Geoff Johns writes it along with Green Lantern. "Brightest Day" is the sequel to Blackest Night.
"Emerald Eclipse" is the most recent Green Lantern Corps volume put out, there are a bunch before it. Johns doesn't write it though. They go in this order:
-Recharge
-To Be a Lantern
-The Dark Side of Green
-Sinestro Corps War Part 1
-Sinestro Corps War Part 2
-Ring Quest
-Sings of the Star Sapphire
-Emerald Eclipse
Emerald Eclipse is only out in hardcover form right now, same goes for regular Green Lantern's "Agent Orange" story arc.

Spider-Man- Pick up "American Son." It's a very recent book and it is really good. I've also enjoyed all the arcs that followed but "American Son" is the best in the last year.
For older stuff, if you don't mind '80s or '90s art, "Birth of Venom," "Kraven's Last Hunt" and "Maximum Carnage" are all excellent. I also love "Death of the Stacys" since it is a very emotional and important story from Spider-Man, but it's from the '70s and really dated.
Daredevil- Get the Omnibus by Brubaker. It's really good, but huge, though.
Thor- Get the recent Thor volumes 1-3 by Straczynski. Very good and a good re-entry point into Thor. I hadn't seen anything Thor in years and wasn't lost at all when I read it.
I can't say anything for X-Men since I haven't followed it in a really long time.

Not that I know of but the sidebooks mostly tell the events occuring to other characters in the DC Universe, and are for the most part pretty good in their own way.

So being a fan of the classic Spider-Man and loving Gwen Stacy, I went to the comic book shop and bought the issue. The worst Spider-Man story ever. Why couldn't OMD erase THAT!?
I didn't read any further obviously, and my return to Spider-Man only happened because of American Son being written by Joe Kelly and I decided to stay with it.
You missed out. His run was a ton of fun, and he actually managed to make me not hate MJ… which is an impressive feat.

A likeable Mary Jane? That isn't in the Ultimate line (well 50/50 there, but much better than in 616)? That's a new one. I never could stand her.
What are some standout arcs from his run? I heard they are releasing or released a JMS ASM Omnibus, but I don't wanna risk an omnibus and not like it. Only omnibuses I have are Brubaker's Captain America and Daredevil, and that's because I'd already knew they were awesome from looking at a friend's collection.

About Wolverine i read the first 4 issues from weapon x and i liked it, and i just bought Wolverine Origins: Dark Reign and Romulus I hope it's good.

OMD and BND were set up books for hitting the reset button on Peter and MJ's marriage and reviving a ton of characters (none of which were Gwen unfortunately, oh well, got Harry back) I read some of 24/7 and it seemed good. Election Day was fun. American Son was fantastic. Died in your Arms, Redheaded Stranger and Return of Black Cat were good. Gauntlet has been good but, barring the one Rhino issue, unspectacular, the behind-the-scenes of the Kravinoffs is the most interesting part.
Also bought Batman: Battle for the Cowl, Long Halloween and Dark Victory I know I'll like them since I like anything Batman related
Battle for the Cowl is absolutely terrible and one of the worst Batman stories ever. You'll probably like the other two stories, though.

J. Michael Straczynski surprised everyone and popped up at the Bendis Q&A session. He mentioned that he has completed three Fantastic Four scripts, and also dropped this interesting piece of information about the “Sins Past” storyline.
Turns out JMS wanted Peter Parker to be the father of Gwen's kids but editorial nixed the idea. The powers that be felt that it would age Peter Parker too much if he had two adult kids running around. It was then decided by the whole creative and editorial team that Norman Osborn would be the father!

In an e-mail to popular comic book website Newsarama, Straczynski claimed that he regretted the version of Sins Past that went to press, and that he had hoped to "retcon" it out of continuity during the events of the recent One More Day storyline: "I wanted to retcon the Gwen twins out of continuity, which was something I always assumed I could do at the end of my run. I wasn't allowed to do this, and yes, it pissed me off. I felt I was left holding the bag for something I wanted to get rid of, and taking the rap for a writing lapse that I had never committed."[12]
In the original plans for One More Day, the story would have ended with Gwen Stacy being resurrected by Mephisto's reality-warping spell along with Harry Osborn, but it was eventually decided to let her remain dead.

What? Wow, now I understand why so many say "Fuck you, Quesada!" (Even though I LOVE that Peter and MJ are broken apart now.)
So, Cyclops can have grown adult kids, but Peter can't? If they were Peter's kids, but just warped, misled and raised by Norman after he rapidly aged them, I would have LOVED that story. That makes sense. That sounds like a good story. The shit that was "Sins Past" was absolutely horrible.
And Gwen was supposed to be back? Damn it all!
