Haha, thanks guys. I'm most def. going to pick up some of your suggestions this weekend. I can already tell, this is going to be one expensive shopping spree

That's a reason I don't tend to read a lot of American comics. I absolutely LOVE the art, I love Jim Lee's work 10000x more than most Japanese comics I read. But, a lot of it is ongoing arcs, that I can't just pick up and read, to know the full story, without being confused.
There's all these New Earths, that I have no idea where they came from, without looking it up on some random site. The only thing I really know about Batman, is that his name is Bruce Wayne, his parents died, and whatever I learned from the movies, cartoons. That's it. With this knowledge, would Batman and Son be a good starting point to read from?
This applies to all series; Flash, Green lantern(which I'm pretty much caught up now), Superman, etc.
-
Anyone ever read The Fountian. I thought it was a pretty nice short romance. Colorful art too.

That's why you should read Vertigo. Pretty much all self contained series and in the main are by the same author all the way through(except hellblazer of course).
I'd start with Sandman if you haven't already read it.
JLA Book 1: New World Order
JLA Book 2: American Dreams
JLA Book 3: Rock of Ages
JLA Book 4: Strength in numbers
JLA Book 5: Justice for allPrometheus. The best JLA. The whole wonderworld arc is great.

I'm pretty excited about the up coming The Walking Dead tv adaptation.
It's the only American comic I read on a regular basis and it's my current favourite comic by far (you guys never seem to mention it in this thread…) so I have very high expectations.

Huh. I've never heard of The Walking Dead. But it looks interesting. Might have to check that out.

Just read the saga of ra's al ghul (I posted a link in the Batman Arkham Asylum topic on the Video Games section). Morrison's Batman arc is pretty confusing but there are only a few things you need to know first the rest you can find out later (since the whole point of the story is to be confusing well…).
For Superman, just start with the currently running Superman: Secret Origin. After that's over, I can tell you where to go next (Superman is currently in a REALLY LONG story arc about New Krypton that would be too much reading at this point).
Green Lantern, start at Rebirth and go from there. If you use torrents then most current GL torrents start from this point anyway and have everything you need. Pretty much everything you need to know is explained in the current series.
Flash....you may want to wait a little bit for. It's currently getting reworked via Flash Rebirth.
I think what may interest people that have a hard time getting into American Comics is the new Earth One stories DC will be putting out later this year.

if you want to read really good batman i recomend you this
Batman: Year One
The Man Who Laughs, the first encounter between batman and the Joker
The Long Halloween, it takes 6 months after Y1 when mostly all the villains of batman have already appeared, an excellent mystery thriller
Dark Victory, its the continuation of TLH and the start of Robinthat pretty much takes you to the start of Batman
but there is also other stories that take not just Batman but the companions like
Robin: Year One, Batgirl: Year One and Nightwing: Year One, the 3 are made by the same team of writer and artist and the art is pretty contemporaryand of course Hush, from the same author of TLH and DV
and about Green Lantern you can start by Rebirth but if you want to start earlier you can read Emerald Twilight(When he became evil), Final Night(When he dies), and Day of Judgment(When he returns)
but they are not really essential
also i recommend you the GL Secret Origin, I think the is being sell this month -

Dude I LOVE THAT SERIES, I think I mentioned about it a few pages back, hopefully the book will capture the same feel of the book at the very least. It can have different stuff but so long as I feel for the characters then it's golden.

Dark Horse just released a comic called Solomon Kane. Anyone familiar with it? It looks interesting enough to pick up.
-
Is The Walking Dead very gory? I mean I can handle the gore in Hellblazer fine so I guess I'm asking if it's like…a gore fest? Super gory?
-
I would assume so seeing as it's a comic about zombies.
Just finished the chapter in Sandman where
! he goes to Hell to find his helmet. It's sort of refreshing to see a Lucifer that isn't a big hulking demon. And the game that they played was pretty cool.
I also downloaded the first issue of Hellblazer to try it out. I started reading it before but remember not liking the art style. Sounds kind of strange :ermm: . -

This is what I have been waiting for. Eff Yea.
This may be the first comic series I actually buy.

The artists change a lot in the series. And yeah not all of the art is my cup of tea either. XD
-
Well I'm reading it now and like the art, so I don't know. I love the narration style too. Wonder if they'll ever be an Absolute Hellblazer release?
-
Im at chp 21 of Sandman
i loved the issue were he gives immortality to a guy and talk about reuniting every 100 years, also liked the one with the metamorpho girl, i always wondered why she didnt reappear when i saw she was an old character on Wednesday comics, i didnt knew…! she died
-

I read it! Solomon Kane is a character created by Robert E. Howard, same guy who created Kull and Conan the barbarian!
The art may not impress you but the story's pretty good.
Solomon Kane's stories deal with the supernatural during the 17th/18th century.
I say give it a red and see if you like it =)@leland- The gore in Walking Dead is well it's fine IMO, but you really shouldn't focus/worry about it as that's not the main point of the series ;3
-
Most of the things being suggsted here are things I either have already or intend to get! I tend to ignore all that DC crisis crap because it get's too confusing. I'm probs gonna get more Batman, I need more source material for my dissertation anyway.
-
Thanks for all the info about The Walking Dead. Anyways I read 1-68 of it yesterday and it's a great story. Both the plot and the characters are very well written and interesting. But it's so damned depressing. Like honestly too depressing for my tastes.
! Like what happened to Morgan and his son. :(
I sort of wanted to stop because of that but I really wanted to know what would happen next. XD It's good though.@Kairouseki:

John's narration is one of my favorite things about the series. He's a fantastic character to follow, in general :)
-
Yeah man…I shed manly tears during Walking Dead, manly manly tears ;.;
Spiderman 617 was fantastic IMO, glad to see Rhino'S moved on with his life =D
-
617 actually moved Rhino into my top 5 favorite Spidey villains. Sorry Carnage, but that was a great issue. This whole Gauntlet and War of Spiders business has been great. I really wanna know what is going to happen with the Kraven family.

actually all this gauntlet thing have been really lame
the rhino issue have been great but its just an exception
the sandman ones were terribly depressing
pretty much everything after OMD have been bad -

Sandman continues to be awesome. I just finished the chapter where
! Morpheus follows his sister as she reaps souls.
My absolute favorite chapter so far. -

pretty much everything after OMD have been badAll a matter of opinion, I suppose. I like all the behind the scenes antics of the Kraven family and how the classic villains are coming back one-by-one.
I also think OMD was the best thing to happen for Spidey comics. Probably because I hate MJ and reading the same scenario over and over. Either way, I started reading ASM again around the Obama issue (583?) and then began subscribing at 595 and have thoroughly enjoyed every single issue since.

Got my copy of She-Hulk Volume 4 today. So far I read the first two chapters, The Star Fox case was interest to point, but I did like the ending of it with Jen getting so pissed off that she turn into She-Hulk.

What? I never really read any She-Hulk books, but I thought she was always in green Hulk form. So, she actually goes back to human from time to time?
-
Apparently, she's able to switch back and forth.
-

My absolute favorite chapter so far.Aaaaah I love her so much. She's such a groovy gal. <3 The rest of the family is a treat too. XD
I love your new ava/sig too. :D

Yes, since the events in the Avengers Red Zone and The Search of She-Hulk arcs, she been able to transformed back and forth.
The April listings for Marvel Comic are out.
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=24463
! The 2nd issue of Fall of the Hulks: The Savage She-Hulk looks interesting since Jen is on the cover. Even through they shown recently that she might be dead from a flashback against Red She-Hulk by her neck be snap by a cable. I have this feeling that she might be alive. But I might be wrong.
-
^ Interesting. So its a more recent change. Cool.
-
I recently read WWH, and holy shit was it an awesome slugfest! Romita's art seemed a little rushed but IMO, it fucking delivered. I still hate how it ended with Miek revealing what really happened >_<
…but non the less an awesome slugfestEDIT
Now here's something interesting- A documentary on Daredevil!
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=7C6748F02D6BF32B&search_query=men+without+fear+creating+daredevilI strongly suggest watching it even if you're not a Daredevil fan, though maybe this documentary will make you consider reading his series ;3

I know in a couple weeks, I will ordering She-Hulk Volume 5 (since my friend is going to get me money so that can get my late X-Mas present from him).
-
did you heard the bad news about green arrow
! Star City is destroyed
i think is officially the end of the comic -
^You mean GA & Black Cannary? I've heard rumors about it's cancelation a few days ago.
-
^You mean GA & Black Cannary? I've heard rumors about it's cancelation a few days ago.
it wasnt canceled, it drop the co-feature and will be renamed just Green Arrow, also will drop the price too but i doubt it last after all this mess
-
Finished reading She-Hulk volume 4 today, I can say it was interesting. The Civil War issue was interesting since it shows Jen's two side feelings about the Superhuman Registeration Act with her normal side and her She-Hulk side.
I did found it amusing of J. Jonah Jamson going apeshit about Peter revealing himself being Spider-man then going apeshit about his son, John marrying She-Hulk. I did love the entire spit take gag from the Wasp, Doc Samson, Southpaw, Jen's Dad, Pug etc.
The ending of Volume 4 make me can't wait to read Volume 5. Which I will be ordering in the next week or so.
-
John Jameson married She-Hulk?
-
^ i think i remember something of that
he actually proposed before civil war but i dont know if she accepted -
Yep, they were married. But it was mostly from Starfox's power that made them fell in love. But once they found out, they got a divorce.
-
Is it a good idea to get the Saga of the swamp thing by Alan Moore…did anyone read it?
Also, today I read Death of Capt America vol 2, it was good, but Im anxious at what will happen next. What is the name of the very next issue
-

what a lame excuse for a divorce:getlost:
i think Marvel really does have something against marring their heroes -

The next volume is Death of Captain America vol. 3: The Man Who Bought America. After that it's Man With No Face, then Road to Reborn.

Alan Moore's Swamp Thing is great, and really worth the read.
-

I just bought Death part 3 and Man With No Face off of Amazon, Road to Reborn was out of stock. I'll have to hit up my comic book store for Road to Reborn.
-
I was reading some JLA in the library and found this;
[hide][/hide]The fuck is this? Is this a new look or just a temporary thing?
-
lol that's from the 90s, I dunno the specifics exactly, but Supes got split into 2 Supermans; a red one and a blue one. I kinda like that outfit personally.
-

Both are great. They really show Bucky's growth. I still haven't gotten Road to Reborn because A. I'm waiting for the Reborn HC to come in so I can read in one swoop and B. I already got Cap 600 a long while back and that's a large portion of RtR anyway.
That reminds me, Thor, Hulk, and Captain America all hit the 600 milestone months before Spider-Man, but now due to Spidey's thrice monthly printing and whatever reason that caused all of those titles to take a hiatus (except maybe Hulk, but I know Cap and Thor had a few months between 600 and subsequent issues), Spidey has taken the lead. Anyone think ASM might eclipse Action in issue count eventually? I think Action has the most, it's in the 800s.
-

I've heard a lot of really good things about that series. Surprisingly good things considering it's about…a swamp thing. XD
