I thought I would never get to read the ASM chapters of the New Green Goblin (way bak in the chapters 170s-80s) but I foun it, so I can't wait to read it…now about the stuff after election day, not really sure whats the name. Also I read more Ruinaways a while ago (I think it was 8) anyone know how much vol they released?

@Syan:
Yeah, I'd love for DC to make a new Captain Marvel book. I also want a Hawk & Dove book, but another Hawk just died in Blackest Night Titans. My favorite pairing of H&D was Hank and Dawn, since that was the one from my childhood.
The one Hawk and Dove book I read was from the 80s written by the Kestrels and illustrated by, apparently, Rob Liefeld BEFORE he started drawing everything…overexaggerated. The art and writing was pretty good IMO and I found it pretty fun :3

I like the original one (Ditko). The 2 most recent series blew so bad it's no wonder they haven't made a new series for a while.
-
I like the same one Tizoc mentioned. Hawk and Dove just works better as a boy-girl team. Hank and Don had good brotherly interaction, but I just felt the interaction of Hank and Dawn worked better. Pity that Armageddon storyline changed Hank, but it worked for the character. I never liked the Holly and Dawn pair, though.
-
Speaking of DC I generally don't like Superman since I see him as a force for cultural imperialism sometimes, but I fell in love with All Star Superman by Quitely and Morrison. Anybody else a fan of their take on the Man of Steel?

After Election Day, it's 24/7 -> American Son (amazing, do not miss!) -> Died In Your Arms -> Red-Headed Stranger -> Return of the Black Cat (contains "Who Was Ben Reilly" arc) -> Gauntlet part 1.

I'm not a fan of Superman whatsoever and I've never really liked anything Morrison has done. But how do you see Superman as a force of cultural imperialism? He has the whole all-American boyscout motif but doesn't ever force it upon others that I've seen.
-
Ah but I think it kinda has been forced on people in a way by some fans. To me generally he doesn't represent his world but hs country, America. His general boy scoutness does annoy me and so does his "powers granted to him by fanboys whenever they feel they want to try and make him more powerful than everyone else".
But I speak as someone who has seen fanboys take it too far way back in the "Goku vs Superman" argument a couple of years ago. Anyway considering I don't like his ridiculous powerscaling it might see odd that I love All Star Superman even though he is arguably physically stronger than ever. Well the whole thing was well written and I loved the art.
It was more than the usual "slug it out with a bad guy" routine. I actually felt for the character and those around him.By the way I can talk other comics, I may have reduced my collection reently but I still ave series I love, such as The Boys, Thor, The Runaways, The Sandman and Fables.
-
I get what your saying, but that's not cultural imperialism really, that's fans being really opinionated. Goku v Superman is an overall silly idea, anyway. Both have been shown to be ludicrously strong to the point of planet destruction, isn't that enough? Not to say I wouldn't be intrigued by some sort of crossover that would end unresolved, but it would still be silly.
As for the Kryptonians, I only like Supergirl and Power Girl, but PG has been kind of annoying in JSA. Maybe it's because she's hanging around Magog, because I hate Magog. Oh, and I absolutely love Superman Prime.
-
Ah well it's a hard point to argue but it is the kind of thing I am writing about in my dissertation, except my dissertation has a very strong emphasis on gender issues while I compare Japanese and American comics.
-
So yeah….Blackest Night 6....
! How come Hector Hammond wasn't the Orange Lantern? Why was Mera the Red one? It also still makes me mad that WW became a Star Saphire.
-
I gave up on e green lanterns a while ago when the colour coded lantern arc was a few issues in. I'm trying to minimalise my American comics so I think I shall keep away from GL.
-
Let's take a trip down the old-comics road for a minute. Has anyone else read Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth? It seriously is probably one of the most artistic comics I've read (Then again, I haven't read that many comics), and it is quite disturbing and yet very symbolic at the same time.
-

Dude, it all made perfect sense to me.
! Lex Luthor made the most sense for an Orange Ring to me and Scarecrow finally receiving his Yellow Ring was satisfying as hell. Mera made sense for the scenario and I don't really mind WW as a Star Sapphire since I don't like them anyway. How about Ganthet going Green? Atom Man an Indigo Lantern and Flash as Blue, fucking brilliant! "All will be well!"

You think he made more sense than Hammond? Even after what Geoff setup in Secret Origins?
As for the red person, he just wanted to use her more for blackest night
-
@Syan:
This forum seems predominantly slanted towards DC from what I've seen of most of your favorites. Not that I'm complaining, just noticed that.
Actually, aside from reading Detective, Superman (Secret Origin for now, I don't care for this new Krypton business), Batman & Robin, and a few Vertigo books, most of my comics are just Marvel and Conan. I'm slowly getting off of Marvel, though, and in the past few months I've been getting into alternative action comics like Shade the Changing Man, The Badger, Nexus, Madman, The Rocketeer, and Jack Staff.
-
I just finished reading Wolverine and Kitty Pryde. Very interesting mini series. Since the storyline pretty explain how Kitty official get her codename, Shadowcat, and also she gets her ninjtsu skills.
I also read She-Hulk Vol. 1, very awesome book, even through I already read Vol. 2 a month ago, Vol. 1 is just as great and I love the entire Marvel Comic Books being used as Case documents, very creative in my opinion.
-
Anyone read the Justice League miniseries, Cry for Justice?
Wondering if it's worth picking up, it has a rare appearance of one of my favourite DC villains, but I don't know whether it's actually any good.
-
^
No, it is terrible and universally despised. Characterization is wack and there are tons of character deaths for no reason.It doesn't bode well for Robinson's JLA but we'll see what happens when he puts the new team together.
-
Woot! Got 6 volumes of Preacher and 4 volumes of Transmetropolitan. And the fifth volume of Transmet and the first volume of Ultimate Sandman should be delivered shortly .
Has anyone read the Discworld comic books?
-

How annoying. They finally bring back Prometheus how Morrison envisaged him with Faces of Evil and he gets chucked into a rubbish miniseries? I swear, the best villain DC's created in decades, but they seem content to have him bounce around as if no one knows what to do with him. I at least hope Robinson is putting him back on a Strength in Numbers/ World War III footing.
Anyway, thanks for the heads up.

Yes. They're good. Rincewind's two and the Guards one I have. I think the Mort one is good too, but it's been ten years since I read it so I can't be sure about that one.
-
@Kairouseki:

Don't fuck with my column!
You'll get it when you read it ;3
Eh I'll give those series a read, just to put your mind at ease.@Friend of Luffy- All Star Supes is one of my fav. Superman books. I too am a Supes fan; became one after reading Superman: Brainiac and this book.
World of New Krypton is fantastic IMO, Greg Rucka's doing a great job with this series, even though the covers are totally misleading most of the time XD.
Mind you, Supes is almost always interesting depending on who writes him/how he is written.
Oh and glad to see another fan of The Boys here =)
If you're interested give The Walking Dead a read, yes it may look like a zombie series, but as you keep reading it…you'll be impressed by it ;)
Also, the current GL stuff is worth reading for Larfreeze alone.@Syan- Be forewarned that I am a huge Morrison fan...boy, I've enjoyed the majority of his work to date
@RuNa- WW seemed like a quick cop out a bit, but come on, Lex makes oh-so-friggin' sense when it comes to greed. As for Mera, SHE'S MAD AS HELL AND SHE CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! WHY WOULDN'T SHE GET RED RINGGED?! Vomits blood j/k but Mera made sense after all the shit she's been through. Still how is Atom compassionate again?
@Darkstorm- That book has a love/hate going for it from what I've seen @_@
-
Well I may give Cry a read when it's collected then.
But yeah, Preacher, Sandman and Transmetropolitan are three of the finest series ever.
-
You think he made more sense than Hammond? Even after what Geoff setup in Secret Origins?
I was thinking the same thing after you said that but the person that got the ring made the most sense in the DC universe. Speaking of Hammond, where is that freaking going!?
-
@Syan- Be forewarned that I am a huge Morrison fan…boy, I've enjoyed the majority of his work to date
What? I didn't say anything bad about him, just that I personally have not liked anything that I've seen of what he has written.
I've only read Batman: RIP and Final Crisis completely. RIP was a disappointment to me since I thought the villains were kind of lame, even Joker who seemed just different. Also, the story was choppy and all. I was a bit annoyed when I finished it since I bought it for the story of Batman's death, thinking RIP was that story, but I did recognize the fact that it wasn't meaning a physical death. Final Crisis just had the weirdest pacing issues and was very confusing at first. There were a few spots that were really good in it, but as a whole I was just left flat by the finish. Collecting the 52 "Superman's" of the universe to win was a gigantic deus ex machina cop out for me, as well.
I've heard that his All Star Superman and Batman & Robin are amazing, but I don't read Superman stories and I don't like Dick as Batman at all, actually I don't really like Dick as Nightwing either. The "retro" one-shots and what I've seen of older books makes me really like him in his Robin days, but when he grew up, he lost his appeal to me.
-
I don't blame you for not liking Superman, I usually don't either. All Star is fantastic reading, it is one of the 2 Superman stories I will actually read, it helps that it is done by my fave American comics creative team (although the actual team are mostly British- not sure about the colourist). The other one would be Superman Red Son.
-
Y'know, Red Son actually looks really interesting and I may some day get it, but for the time being, I'm way too strapped for cash to even afford some of the comics I absolutely love. Thank God for DCBS being so affordable so I can at least get a few.
-
Nah I'm in the same boat man, I can't touch my standing order for at least 2 weeks.
Go me I just realised I posted the 3000th post on this thread. This is Sparta X 10!
-
^lol, congrats mate.
Oh yeah Fantastic Four has been pretty good recently if I hadn't mentioned it yet. The latest issue that was about Franklin's birthday was great and it set up the stories to come.
@Syan:
What? I didn't say anything bad about him, just that I personally have not liked anything that I've seen of what he has written.
Oh I know you didn't, but just wanted to give you a heads up that I may sometimes praise a number of Morrison's stuff, but rest assured; it's usually because it is fun/good depending on your approach and how you interpet his stories. So apologies if my post was misleading ^_^;

lol, if there's ONE thing Morrison is known for is that his pacing isn't like every other writer, for the most part. Also I've heard that Batman RiP would make more sense if you had read the Batman stories he wrote before it.
I need to reread it someday to ascertain the 52 Supermen thing.Mind you, with some books you could just read them for the sake of the writing and not the characters.

Haha, coincidentally I just got FF 574 today too. It was a good set up chapter. I popped in because I heard the team working on FF has actually turned it around and made it good again. Also, I saw Spidey on the cover and decided, "What the heck?" Huge bonus was a cameo by the Power Pack! They look so much different now from their "Power Pack" comic earlier in the decade, mostly Katie as a redhead like Julie instead of blonde, but in general they are 4-5 years older. I loved the Power Pack comic for its fun stories and colorful srt style. I'm interested in where this might go, and if Ms. Marvel's series is being cancelled then perhaps the FF will fill that void. Especially if the Power Pack keeps having guest roles.
Did Morrison write Batman and Son? I think he was around that time, but I read that at a friend's house and loved it. The entire character of Damien is really interesting to me, but I don't really like him along with Dick. The stuff with Jason Todd seems cool, though.
I also just got my ASM 615. Just curious, but are Betty Brant and Glory Grant roommates and Betty gets her inside information from Glory's sleep-talking, or was it implying that they are lesbians? Maybe I just flipped by and overthought it, but the way Betty had that odd smile and it slowly went into the bedroom with a sleeping Glory just seemed weird.
-
At the moment I'm reading Runaways and Spiderman's Maximum Carnage
-
^ I love the scene when Captain America shows up and says, "Looks like you could use a hand," in Maximum Carnage. It was something I read while really young and Carnage and his group were so terrifying and evil that every one was becoming affected, even Peter. I was actually so drawn in and scared and the moment Cap showed up, I knew it'd be all right. One of my first real emotional reactions to comics, and one of the most well-done scenes of all time.
-
I really want to read Fantastic Four so bad (got the first two issues of Hickman/Eaglesham's run) but I am waiting for trades so that they read better (since they don't directly affect other books like most Marvel titles I am able to wait).
-
Right now, I'm middle of reading all the books I got for X-mas, currently working on Astounshing X-Men Volume 4.
Of the stuff that I got for X-mas I still have to read She-Hulk Volume 3, Young Avengers Volume 1 (already read Volume 2 and love it), and Runaways Volume 1. I'll be ordering She-Hulk Volume 4 in the next week or so. Since I'm really enjoying reading She-Hulk so far.
-
Perhaps you fine folks can help me. I'm a big Wolverine fan and I really want to get into X-Men, not just him either, the whole series, but I'm intimidated. I can't tell which of all the X-Men comics are of consistent storylines or what.
I would like to follow the series from it's start to it's on-going process. Does anyone happen to have a torrent or the like?
-
Buuhan, I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for. Do you mean you want all of the main continuity of the X-Men from the original team in the '60s (Prof X, Cyclops, Angel, Marvel Girl Jean Grey, Beast, Iceman) to present? Or just a basic catch up summary and a good recent point to jump in the series?
If you mean more recently, Astonishing X-Men, Wolverine Origins, House of M, and Messiah Complex / War are good recent points to start back in.
If you do mean from the beginning, you'd start with the MMW releases, but there is a lot of stuff.
-

Do you mean the Power Pack minis from months ago? Those aren't part of the main continuity, but non the less, I am really glad to see the Power Pack in main Marvel continuity. I guess they'll retcon/omit any of their recent appearances previous comics (eg Julie being in Loners). I'd like if they do though as Julie ended up regretting her super hero days =(
I'm interested in where this might go, and if Ms. Marvel's series is being cancelled then perhaps the FF will fill that void. Especially if the Power Pack keeps having guest roles.
Doubt the Pack'll appear in it unless they have to do with the 4 cities ;)

Yup Morrison wrote it and I really like it myself. I'll prob. get around to getting The Resurrection of Ra's Al-Ghul to complete my collection >o>
Cap appearing in that Spidey story sounds so random…:wassat:

While I could provide torrents, the latest X-Men stuff have had some great Wolverine moments.
Take note that the chronology of the X-Men series goes something like this-
! 1960s- Uncanny X-Men (revived in 1975)
! 1980s- The New Mutants (Marvel wanted to cash in on the popularity of X-Men at the time and released this series along with…), X-Factor, Wolverine miniseires
! 1990s- X-Men, DeadPool (started off with 2 4-issue miniseries then an ongoing), Generation X
! Early-Mid 2000s- New X-Men (this is the 90s X-Men book but retitled, I don't think this will be a series you'd like due to the writing direction, though IMO it's had some of the best X-Men stories in it), Astonishing X-Men, Cable and DeadPool, Academy X series, Phoenix: Endsong miniseries, MadroX, X-Factor (this is one IS NOT like the one from the 80s), House of M (pivotal X-Men event), Wolverine
! Late 2000s (i.e. past few years/months)- X-Men Legacy (this is the retitled X-Men/New X-Men), Messiah CompleX (another pivotal X-Men event), Cable(?), X-Force, DeadPool, X-Infernus miniseries, Wolverine: Weapon X
I'll try to provide you with a torrent for these series, but if you want to read the latest stuff from the past decade then a reading order of the following is recommended-
1- New X-Men–>Astonishing X-Men, Wolverine, Academy X-->Messiah CompleX-->X-Men Legacy, X-Force, Cable(?), X-Infernus
2- MadroX-->X-Factor
3- Cable and DeadPool-->DeadPoolYou don't have to read the other 2, but they're good in their own way. The 2000 series X-Factor involves a different team and concept than the one from the 80s.
The list in no. 1 features a number of stories that involve Wolverine in his best. Messiah CompleX story just leads to those titles listed -

I first noticed it from the Spider-Man magazine, since they get featured in it. Then I got this:
That's the art style I meant. And Katie's clearly blonde in it. It's from '08, so fairly recent. I know it was just little extras, but I really enjoyed it.
Doubt the Pack'll appear in it unless they have to do with the 4 cities ;)
Well, in the new issue, Reed offers a job to Alex. I don't mean have them in every issue, just every few months and stuff. And they could keep the Julie being off-screen since Alex mentioned Julie was off somewhere else.
Yup Morrison wrote it and I really like it myself. I'll prob. get around to getting The Resurrection of Ra's Al-Ghul to complete my collection >o>

Cap appearing in that Spidey story sounds so random…:wassat:
Guess you'd have to read it. It works perfectly within the story of Maximum Carnage. It was just a huge event in Spider-Man, lots of people were in it. It's still one of the longest arcs of Spider-Man, at a heavy 14 issues. It's fairly cheap, you should check it out.

Went to Waldenbooks today (didn't buy anything though, just looked around) and saw a comic titled "Mavel Zombies vs Army of Darkness". This struck my interest so I looked through it and it's ZOMBIES OF MARVEL SUPERHEROES VS ASH FROM THE EVIL DEAD MOVIES! Holy shit, that's awesome .

I was in B&N, and saw alot of comics that caught my eye. Mainly the Avengers one.. Not sure what's the exact title. It looked really interesting, but I was not sure since I'm aware that there are adaptions of everything…. and I'm really behind as far as comics go. Even the price shocked me... I feel old.
I did pick up something called "The Marvelous Land of OZ" because the art got to me. Maybe I like the kiddy expressive stuff with nice colors and backgorund... It's really nice though.
-
Yeah, I saw that Oz one too. Also the Pride and Prejudice comic :blink: .
-
X-men continuity up to Messiah War(some minor spoilers for the series in the 80s and early 90s):
American comic continuity is so confusing… Btw RuNa, empty your PM box. I'm trying to PM you (not about this, about the Wii).
So, is there a torrent which has everything I need? I have a comic shop, but I think buying will make it more confusing and a lot more expensive. (I think he sells those super thin paper-back comics you use to get for under a dollar back in the day for a good $5)
-
Finished reading She-Hulk Volume 3 today, things are just getting more interesting, the entire Andy situation was really interesting and like the development of Southpaw's future self as seems that Jenny help her become a better person all together.
-
Kai- if you liked that, give Marvel Zombies 3 a read, it's my fav. of the series and it has a pretty fun story. I hadn't read the first 2 but you may like them as well.
Oh and the Oz comic from Marvel is pretty good, the art is done by Skottie Young (sp?) He's done art for other series as well which looks a tad different than in the Oz books. -
Is anyone else looking forward to Marvel's Siege event? I'm getting bored of Dark Reign, though it has been a couple of months since I could afford to buy a comic.
-
I'm somewhat interest in it. But I'll be waiting for the Graphic novel release.
-
Ah, I only do that for Runaways and Thor.
-
@Friend:

I personally enjoyed it for the most part, but Siege…I'll see how it'll turn out. Only thing I'm looking forward to in Siege is Oliver Coipel doing the art for the Siege miniseries.
-
I didn't realise Copiel was doing the art, oh that's a pleasant bonus!
