I've never seen those knock-offs before. I'm just shocked at how blatant they are. I almost want to watch them just to see how much more they rip off.
While its not entirely the same thing….

Oh man, it's great to see Disney's got their mojo back. Also, Dr. Facillier could very well end up being Disney's best villain. Seriously, I see it in him.
What is it with Keith David?! He's got the Midas Voice, I swear. Rocked as Goliath in Gargoyles, kicked ass as Chaos in Dissidia, and now he may very well have Disney's best villain in his resume.
Shine on Keith David. You shiny, beautiful diamond…. With a sexy, sexy voice that I wish I had...
Not to detract from Dr. Facilier's importance and awesomeness (and trust me, I do appreciate how awesome he is) but I just can't help but notice how Lawrence looks so much like a monkey. Seriously, do a palette swap and maybe add some fur and you couldn't tell the difference.
That was probably intentional… At least I took it that way.
Ratatoing? Is that even a word? XD

We haven't seen alot of the full-on 'evil' side of the Doc yet, but I do have high hopes. Currently, I'd say Cruella DeVil's holding top spot on my list; might be hard to out-do her outright Evil Bitch-ness.
Totally seconding that second comment though. Keith David's voice is like sex laced with bacon, chocolate and every other rich, sinful thing you could ever imagine. Have you seen the Spawn animated series? His voice on Spawn himself…NOM.

No doubt about the monkey look, but Lawrence is clearly the 'fall-guy' character, and they normally look goofy. Hey, for all we know, Dr. Facilier turns him into a monkey.
…Actually looking at the Doc in that video, when he has his hat off...the hair makes him look like a young Little Richard.
!
Yes/No?
While Dr. Facilier does look awesome, I'm afraid I don't think he can beat the amazingness that is Maleficent. She's just the tops, period.

Disney isn't the only one to get knock offs

…Wow. These things are SCARY. People actually buy this stuff?
Looks like the company Video Brinquedo is to be thanked for that one, and several of the Pixar rip-offs. I love this quote:
One reviewer on Toon Zone, in his review of Ratatoing, said, "if you ate a copy of the worst cartoon you could think of, you'd still probably crap something better than Ratatoing."[14]
Well, the first round of reviews for the limited pre-release are out:

The general consensus? It's not Beauty and the Beast "OMGWTFBBQ Awesome", but it's definitely a blast, and it's definitely got the old Disney magic.
How long until December 11?
It'd be damn hard to match up against Beauty and the Beast in any form in my eyes, as it's probably my favorite Disney flick ever.
That was the time when Disney held Magic in a Bottle, and everything got a healthy dousing of it before being sent out into the world. If Frog Princess got even just a sprinkle of the glory days to it, then I'll be happy knowing Disney CAN still do it, and will (hopefully) continue the work.
How long until December 11?
Too long, my friend. Too…damn...long. plots to hit Matinee on the 12th

Sounds good. As long as it's at least Aladdin, Hercules, or Mulan quality I'll be pleased. I just want a movie that I can genuinely enjoy and be entertained by (not like Treasure Planet, Home on the Range, or this new 3-D crap). It doesn't have to be the next Beauty and the Beast or Lion King. So yeah, I think this will be enjoyable.
It's going to be a good movie for sure, but I think Disney is going to go up against the same wall it did before - no more magic princess/prince conflict type movies to adapt again.
Most of the Disney stinkers tried to deviant from that formula (which Don Bluth exploited with Anastasia to great success) but really only out of necessity. Disney can only do magic fairy tales for so long…
Give them a fucking break, they haven't made a 2d movie in almost a decade
Hasn't it been just little over a half decade since the last one? A decade sounds so dramatic.
Good to hear about the positive reception of the movie. I had already kinda forgotten the film but now I really want to see it.
Five and a half years. 'Home on the Range' was released April 2004, and "Brother Bear" had been released the year before that.
Maybe taboo is meaning a they haven't made a 2D movie 'to be EXCITED about' in almost a decade? That kinda makes sense. (Though personally, I liked Brother Bear.)
Tempted to take that opening night off and go, with or without someone to OMG with afterwards.

if the reception is that good, imagine what it will be on opening night.
I have only heard a bit of the good doctors song and want more!!
"Sit down at my table…."
It's been over a decade since we've had a full-blown animated musical (Mulan).
I was talking about since lilo and stitch honestly
It's still dumb to think anything other than a new string of 2d Disney classics could jump start traditional animation again
I'm so glad Disney isn't Racist. /sarascim
Multicultural couples for the win!
As the product of a multi-racial couple myself, I heartily agree!
Sweet, I'm going to see this movie next Monday (only $5 a ticket then).

Obviously you've never seen the multitude of fairy tale stories around my house (mother was a grade school teacher)
Disney's running out of the popular Grimm's fairy tales, yes, but there's still a multitude of fairy tales and folklore they can mine stories from. Not to mention modern fiction.
A lot of Disney movies are based on 20th century storybooks, not folk tales. Lady and the Tramp, Bambi, 101 Dalmations, The Sword in the Stone, The Great Mouse Detective, etc.

I'd very much like to see them take a look at international folklore. Perhaps something revolving around the African trickster, Anansi, or the European Baba Yaga…

Any attempts by Disney would fail against this song
Any attempts by Disney would fail against this song
Knew that was gonna be mentioned. xD
I was thinking more along the lines of the story of Vasilissa the Beautiful. I'm sure Disney could tweak it to suit their needs (so it seemed less Cinderella-esque), and it'd work. And Baba Yaga as an almost anti-heroic figure in the film would be interesting…
I've always dreamed of this Fairy Tale being made into a disney movie.
Favorite story in childhood <3
It's a Grimm Tales story to boot :D

(a roebuck is a type of deer btw)
This film is utter garbage, don't even need to see it.
Stop calling it Disney and using the idiotic magic word.
There is no Disney magic, and this has nothing to do with Disney.
There is only Disney work ethic. The man died with it, don't be fooled by this lackluster pilfering.
…................killjoy
The joy was decrepit and had to be put down.
This is supposed to take place in New Orleans right? New Orleans is nothing like that.
In the 1920's in a fantasy cartoon…

Yeah, not since 2005, right?
…and with that I am now going to hell.
Anyway, I for one am really looking forward to this, and this Friday can't come soon enough (or Saturday since that's when I'm planning on seeing it). Dr. Facilier's music number looks like it's gonna be seven different shades of awesome.
I'm wondering if it will be just that one musical number that awesomes the pants off of me, or if there will be other top contenders or gasp more than one song sung by Keith David. Do soundtracks still come out a week before the movie, or is it after now?
I saw the movie about a week ago now…maybe. I thought it was great. The animation was spectacular. There were two numbers that I thought were most noteworthy, which were Almost There: Tiana's restaurant dream song thing and Dr. Facilier's, of course.
The characters didn't seem too likable at first but they steadily became so (except for our prince, I still don't see his charm).
It's not out in the UK till next February. Bloody brilliant.

Well, I have faith that Disney will be able to deliver with more than just the one song, but hey, isn't it the villains that always have the best songs? And here's a link to the Princess and the Frog soundtrack info.

Unfortunatley, it doesn't look like Keith David gets to sing another song, but oh well. From what I've heard the "Blue Sky Sunshine" song sounds like it could be pretty good.

They've already done a bit here and there, most notably in Aladdin and Mulan. But I would love to see some African folktales, and of course Russia's got some great stuff. Or something, I dunno, Mexican?
If we're still doing classic fairy tales, then I would love to see their spin on The 12 Dancing Princesses, and Bearskin. I also like "All Kinds of Fur", but that's a little too Cinderella-ish.
They should do a live-action movie.
What? Like Old Dogs? I'll wish for more animation, thanks.
They should do a live-action movie.
They did. And it sucked.
They've been padding their pockets with animation, might as well keep doing what pays the bills (and then some.)
No.
Those are ulterior to the animated canon.
And if you don't like those films then shame on you, for you demanded it.
See this film, pay them and let them know you like degraded generation recursive diluted test-audience padded and approved BULLSHIT.
Animation is false. Or cartoons are not.
Film is still an incredible commodity. All it takes is a little fearlessness.
They can make a worthy movie with moving people.
Don't tell me it can't or won't be done; instead, smash your head on an anvil repeatedly until your flat head matches your brainlessness, thank you.

I can't figure out if you are a really crappy troll or are posting in the wrong topic.
I think it's a funny stance to take for someone with a Lucky Star avatar.
