First of all, unless you have a Nielsen's rating box, your viewings of any TV show are completely unknown to anyone and do not affect ratings.
Secondly, companies don't simply "give away a license" if it's not successful for them. It just doesn't work that way.

Just as long as Luffy gets a MUCH better voice actor. I think luffy would sound better if a guy voiced him ya know…(not that I'm a sexist or anything) its just my opinion. Luffy's like 18, so why not make him sound like a MALE TEENAGER!
-
In Japanese Luffy is voiced by a girl and sometimes (to me anyways) he sounds like a girl. But not as much as the U.S version. But I don't know… Luffy sounding like a general guy would sound weird. Like Luffy's voice in the Spanish version is atrocious.
-
Hmm, never seen or heard the spanish version… I bet he sounds to old, at least they probably get it uncut.

Yeah they get it uncut but some of the character names are changed. Like I know Arlong is named something else (Did'nt catch what it was called though) But Luffy's voice is WAY to deep. He sounds like… Some guy you hear in a Spanish soap on T.V. It's alot worse than our english Luffy. At least ours can come close to the original voice. But Spanish Luffy? Not even close! Belive me, you have to hear it to belive me!

One Piece would be on Toonami. That's all I have, I mean it would be better, but you know, it's not hard to do better than 4Kids.
TOO LATE!! :D :D :D

@neodragzero:
I can't see how Funimation would think it necessary to make the idiotic edits that 4kids has made like changing Marines to Navy, erasing words from clothing on characters, mixing two or three episodes into one more than once, cork guns, taking out the music, making a rap intro, etc. So saying that funimation would make the same edits as 4kids did is basically ignoring the differences between the two companies.
Funimation never went to these levels of stupidity when it comes to their editing.
I would be pretty freaking glad if Funimation were the ones who had the liscense instead of the shit filled assholes at 4kids.
FUNi did turn GT into a real cheesy guitar/rap intro the only opening that ive seen they do good was Smile Bomb.
-
I would have to say I like some of the voices 4kids have for One Piece. Luffy, Zoro, Ussop, Princess Vivi, Shanks, Chef Zeff, Nojiko, and Bellemere all sound like they do them good. If 4kids gets tons of emails bashing the edited version of One Piece they may bring out the unedited DVDs with the Original Openings and Endings faster. Thats what I realy hate about 4kids, they edit out all the good stuf they think is to bad for 7 year olds to watch. I mean with the stuff they son't cut out 7 year olds still should watch. One Piece was made for teenages over 15 at least, and thats who mostly watch it anyhow teenagers. One last thing the lollypop Sanji sucks on instead of having a smoke is fine for little kids, and I think its suits a chef, but I miss it.
-
I always wondered why the TV ratings system works the way it does?
I gather they have devices which can tell whether a TV is turned on, and if so, what channel; they're used in the UK for licence compliance monitoring. Such devices would be perfect for ratings studies, just drive around during prime-time and see what an entire neighbourhood at a time is watching.
And the whole sweeps-month absurdity. Let's base ad rates on viewing of an atypical month of programming!
As for the cigarette editing, it's not okay. It's silly. People smoke. We don't have to pretend otherwise. Are we worried kids will take up smoking to emulate Sanji? As I've said before, then let me have the eyelash curling franchise!
Sometimes the edits seem primarily as a flexing of power. We're going to alter something, because we can! (the whole Kuroobi's bloodied/drawn-on face)

I was at AFO last weekend (Aug. 5-7) and was in line to get my Fullmetal Alchemist Wallscroll signed by Chris Sabat (Major Armstrong. He also plays Vegeta, Piccollo, Yamcha, Mr. Popo, and others in DBZ and Kuwabara in Yu Yu Hakusho. My point is he works for Funimation)
Anyways, he noticed I was wearing a Luffy costume (Movie 3 to be exact), and he looks at me and says, "Man, I really wished Funimation would've gotten One Piece!" I was like, "Yeah, you're definately not the only one!"
So there you have it… straight from the source.
-
I disagree, with what they did to DBZ, and DBGT I have no interest in them doing OP.
And while they did get slightly better with DBZ, in was only in a handful of aspects. They still continued to switch VA around which sucks, and some of their voices gave me headachs (kid buu anyone?).
Personally I think we would have been screwed over either way.
-
so u think FUNi would be as bad as 4kids?
-
One Piece is a series with alot of smoking and drinking. And there are alot of guns aswell. It still would have edits… Just not to the level of 4Kids. The series is still more for children than adults so putting it on Adult Swim won't really give it alot of money. Kinda like with Detective Conan (Case Closed). It has violent parts, but the outlook is very kiddy and cherry. That's why it propboally isn't doing much money.
-
so u think FUNi would be as bad as 4kids?
Yes I do, if not worse. Also the aspect of Sabon doing the VA roles for 10 people doesn't exactly appeal to me either.

No way man, FUNi keeps alot of things the same even on TV. They always have uncut DVDs released shortly or before the show is even released on TV too. Plus, most of their shows go to Toonami/Adult Swim and very little edits for TV are required in the first place.
EDIT: Worse?! How could it be worse, 4Kids just skipped 2 arcs.

The skipped five, if you count the Buggy mini arc, the Apis arc, Laboon, CobyMeppo, and Little Garden.
-
Yeah forgot about them, but 2 major ones (one was filler but still it was many episodes).
Funimation needs to stop their DBZ ultimate uncut editions and get some for One Piece, since it is now much father behind in episodes than the original DBZ dub is. I doubt we'll ever see OP dvds now, but the Shaman King ones were perfect, if only they could do it…

Those uncut VHS and DVDs took how long to come out in the first place? In the middle of the Ginyu fight after waiting 3-4 years? Perhaps after getting tons of hate mail about the crap they did for DBZ they're taking a more aggressive approach.
Remember Home of Infinite Losers? oh wait that was originally "Hell" that they censored to being. Along with all of the editting they did during that time.
And oh wait, just NOW DBZ is being aired on TV uncut. This is what? 8-10 years after its inital release in the USA.
And this still doesn't excuse their horrible voices that gave me headaches.

Your thinking of pioneer my friend for the Home of Infinite Losers thing, Pioneer did the first 50 episodes or so, then Funimation got it, and just recently Pioneer lost is license, so Funimation is now redoing those episodes…. And its 8-10 years after is relase cause Pioneer had it, they couldn't do it till now....

And how did they continue the series after 50 episodes? Oh right, with more bad dubbing and censorship. Hercule my ass.
-
well yeah tho u cant have mr.satan on regular cn. theyd take it off the air. we do have laws.
-

On the episodes that airred on TV yes, but like the person above me said, they cant have Mr.Satan On TV, Maybe on Adult Swim, but on Toonami no, That is why they have Uncut episodes on DVD, which funimation did from the start, after they took it over….And there dubbing was quite good, the only voice i dont like is Piccolo's...
-
Well if I didn't get headaches from their dubbing I might have agreed with you, but as is, no.
-

lol, I am the opposite , I hate the voice acting for the japanese DBZ, goku's voice is soooo bad….
-
Everytime I watch Funi's FMA I weeped in envy. Because, although not perfect, they're doing a good dub job with the series and seems to really like the series (Ed's VA watch fansubs!), and I remembered the horror that is 4Kids' One Piece of crap.
I know what you meen aniki. I think it's a crime what 4kids is doing to one piece, It should be on adult swim, like fma.
-
Yeah, the reason they have the new uncut dvds are for the first 50 episodes which pioneer butchered, not FUNi. They've had uncut dvds for all the other episodes usually even before they air on TV. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.
-

Then I guess we agree to disagree.

Think about what the quote says. One Piece was not made for kids!! It's was made for teenagers and up! Because of the 4kids editing system cartoon network would so not put it on Adult Swim because they don't want to get sued. I mean just playing the 4kids logo before the show would make most views scream and tick off 4kids too! And for Detective Conan (Case Closed) Funimation did it so the unedited version is already out. Everyone knows that even though some of their voice actors suck (Sorry for saying that), if One Piece (1) they would have kept the realy opening and ending. And (2) there would have been at my guess about a 75% chance with some of the same and new voice actors.

Yes it was. One Piece is intended for kids in Japan too. It's just that alot of age groups like it. But in our country some of the content in One Piece is not suitible for younger viewers so 4Kids has to edit stuff (though they do go overbored with the editing but you get me.) The main outlook story will apeall more to kids than adults or teens here. therefore (though it has to go through editing) if companies want to get the most money out of this series it only makes sence to distribute it to a young adience. (you know, like older kids) Of course… Everyone dreams of their anime going to Adult Swim. If it goes there it'll hardly be edited (if edited at all). But I really don't think One Piece is really... A good choice for Adult Swim, even though it has it's fair ammount of drinking and smoking. It's still too kiddy to really deserve to go there.
-
Well if Funi got One Piece, sure it would be edited on TV… BUT IT COULD BE UNCUT ON DVD ATLEAST X_X
-
If FUNimation did One Piece, then it wouldn't suck.
My problem with 4Kids One Piece is that they keep the basic ideas but don't let them grow.
-
@OP:
Funimation and Cartoon Network should send 4Kids a thank you card for taking the spotlight off of them. Itâ€s their editing practices that 4Kids are emulating.
Funimation is great company if they're making anime that goes straight to video or uncut on Adult Swim, but if they had One Piece on Toonami, most of the edits would be the same. Because Cartoon Network has very strict editing guidelines, there would still be no blood, no guns to the head, and edits that would get rid of inappropriate scenes, such as drinking, smoking, and religious items. Bellmeareâ€s death scene would still be cut.
Sure they won't change the Marines' caps to Navy caps and other silly edits but so what. It is inconsequential to the plot.
Please. You're not giving CN much credit.
I wish to point you to the CN dub of Rurouni Kenshin (I'm not sure which company dubbed it, but that is inconsequental, because we're talking about the edits CN imposes)
In the Rurouni Kenshin dub, which aired on the WEEKDAY, 6:30 PM Toonami, there were many scenes of drinking, and saki is mentioned by name numerous times. Many characters are killed, including four who are shot by a gattling gun right on screen. Bellmere's death scene would stay, as far as I can figure out.
There is also much blood (as there is in even the Toonami DBZ near the Cell and Buu sagas), several attempted suicides, TONS of religious references (Kenshin is one of the highest ones around for religious context, and CN kept nearly all of it), and the word "Damn" is let slip twice.
Yes, that's right, the old weekday Toonami let cursing go by. Just by reviewing ONE anime that has aired on the Toonami block, I can pretty much shoot down your claims right here and now.
Funi would do a pretty good job on One Piece I think (They've come a long way from the Furiza Saga, and there aren't any names necessary to change like Mr. Satan was), and CN wouldn't restrict it any. If anybody remembers, after the Weekday Toonami went away Kenshin aired at 10:30 PM Saturday nights…the same time as the 4KIDS OP now. Yet, Kenshin had much looser editing standards, which I've already listed for you.
So Funi and CN would be a great match. 4KIDS is manure no matter what they're doing or who they're paired with.

Thats absolutly right. I remembered watching DBZ and Kenshin on CN soemtimes and was so surprised by what they allowed. If FUNi dubbed OP, it would be fine.

We might get Chris Sabbat doing 5 of the voices though, lol Ace with Vegeta's Voice or something lol
-
I think Funimation would be fine I have always liked there dubbing alot of people used to complain about some things in Yu Yu Hakusho, but I think they did fine with it.Yu Yu Hakusho is rather bloody also and I used to watch it on Toonami and it was perfectly fine I mean a few things like a Yusuke Quote"Maybe if you pulled your head out of your ass" as cut but I mean come one.
Also is there any sort of Patition someone could start are has already yo get 4Kids to stop airing One Piece.I mean One Piece is intended for viewers 12-16 and well standards in japan are defiently not as strict as they are here.
-
Petitions aren't gonna work. Obviously they don't care about the fans.
