Exactly, Having a DF doesn't gurentee you the same results. This is all i know. Ther end of the Manga will have a none fruit user in the top3-4 fighters in Zoro. Shanks probably has a fruit or he wouldn't be able to fight with Mihawk in swords only.

Circumstances DO play a major role in battles in OP. That is way I like it more than any other shounen manga, Oda's always surprising us. :)
Devil Fruits are not the major fact about someone's power. For example, Zoro and Sanji did beat fruit users aplenty.
My side on this: none. As ever, I believe that in a place where the majority of the "facts" might be based upon people's opinions, there's no automatic right nor wrong, thus, people should not be starting useless flame wars out of belief in their own beliefs. My proof is the argument you're evading with that 1 to 40 nonsense you made up. If strength progression didn't have a limit and worked the same for every character power levels would be completely out of hand and way beyond what we've seen of the top tier characters.
The lost arm scene had nothing to do with power levels in that respect. Being strong doesn't make your flesh stone, and that scene was mostly for dramatic purposes, and in no way indicates that Shanks was weak in that time. Something we DO know is that in that very scene Shanks was adept at using this Ambition/Haki/Whatever thing we've been informed TOP TIERS USE.

Your point was that characters keep advancing in strength even until old age as long as they keep fighting. Garp's still an active marine and his abilities have decreased. How does ANYTHING at all in the manga prove that the case is not the same for all characters in the story, which would be the logical thing to assume from what we've been told, and Whitebeard is similar to Garp in that respect. You even suggested the possibility that Whitebeard is beyond the Pirate King's level. That's preposterous. If anything, Whitebeard hasn't progressed significantly in the power hierarchy which is exactly my point. You can't win an argument just by saying "I think Whitebeard's just a BIT stronger now, nothing big guys, don't mind me".
