Hey guys, was just browsing onemanga and happened to catch this new series by the Hellsing mangaka. It reads just like Hellsing with his crazy good art and gore but its a samurai epic…or is it? I found it kinda slow for the first few pages but the ending shocked me. Definitely something I'm quite interested in. (BTW I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link directly like that to onemanga so if not can a mod please edit my post? TY)
Drifters (New Series by the Hellsing Mangaka)

-
Haven't I made a thread for this before? Oh well, thanks for the heads up on the scanlation release :)
-
Oh did you? I didn't happen to see one but if so please merge the topics.
-
seem's like Hirano has been reading the dark tower series (implying to the doors at the end)
-
It had nice art. But the dialogue just felt…wrong. And WUT. At the end. Haha.
-
it was quite hard to tell what was going on. But i'm interested, so i'll keep watch on this one
-
Plus I'm a sucker for superhuman beings.
They were lacking here.
-
Awsum, plz more.
-
So he's a time traveler? I'm guessing he's like some kind of detective that uses the doors to travel to different eras in time and… do stuff. Been done before, but that doesn't make it any less interesting. Plus, Hirano is awesome. I'll give this a read.
-
So… is Hirano still gonna work on Hellsing: The Dawn?
-
Too… Many... Translation notes... And untranslated stuff... I mean, damn!
Either way, could be cool. Fingers crossed…
-
Is this actually employing some poor writing here, or is the translation just terrible?
-
most likeally poor translation i'm guessing
-
Then again, this is Hirano. He's not exactly known for his… dialogue. Hellsing had a lot of people talking to each other, and nobody ever answered another person's questions. Was kind of annoying.
-
Wasn't really interested until the ending. Him being a time traveller does add something to it than if it was some samurai epic. So I'll continue to check it out.
-
I'm interested, but I bet I'll forget all about it in the next month until it comes out.
-

that allways annoyed the shit out of me.

Chapter 2's been out on one manga for a little bit now. The samurai guy gets sent to a world with elf-like people, and meanwhile some other guy gets pulled from World War 2. And then there's a third drifter.
A little confusing so far, but when did Hirano ever make sense?
-
I think these Drifters would be sent on missions to fix problems in other timelines or realities…
-
Shame it's monthly, I really enjoyed the character design of the agent looking guy.
-
so far the chapter lengths are decent just wait until we start getting epic 8,9 and 10 page chapters. How hirano pulled that with Hellsing, I will never know.
-
So far this series has some potential, cool characters so far, but monthly releases are soooo slow with such little plot development. I keep needing more and more.
-
This post is deleted!
-
I dunno if anyone's noticed this, but it looks like Hirano has stopped drawing EVERY FRIGGING PERSON with gloves on their hands. It's minor, but Hellsing bothered the shit out of me because every person, from the most minor character to Alucard himself, all wore gloves. Bare hands were some kind of taboo or something.

New chapter is out on One Manga
Only 10 pages O_O, but still not bad. Ending was funny.
-
Jesus Christ, only the 3rd chapter and Hirano's already doing the 10 page bullshit.
-
yeah. I'm also annoyed at the pacing.
-
what the hell do you guys expect that's hirano for you. I think he just draws what he draws that month and goes " 5 pages…fuck them it's a chapter i'll just write 'to be continued' right there, my editor let's me get away with 8, what's 5 page's to that? not a big difference to me"
Now onto the chapter, I think the storyline so far is getting more and more interesting. Didn't expect that guy to be oda nobunaga nice.
-
Yeah, you can't really bitch at Hirano for doing 10 page chapters. That's just… his thing. But I did enjoy this chapter. The banter between Nobunaga and the main character was fun stuff. A Typical Hirano Shoutfest that we all love.
Had to look it up since there was three of those, but I'm sure all of you know the three warlord poem: "If the cuckoo won't sing..." Nobunaga was the one who said "Kill it". This should be interesting.
-
New Chapter is out. Some new characters come into play: Caesar and Hannibal (at least, I'm pretty sure it's them) Interesting.
-
i read the new chapter and their whole talk of japanese wars or era's was really confusing and had no idea what they were talking about.the only part that i under stood from this chapter is that people from the past are called drifters and the elf village is being attacked.the art is great and the story is interesting but they don't explain much, so it's hard to stick to it
-
Hirano's works are like that. Hellsing, in all honesty, had a very wonky plot too, but the art was amazing and the symbolism was crazy. That's just how he is. If you're a fan, you'll eat it up, if not… well, you'll either accept it or dislike it.
-
Hirano never rights literal you really have to pay attention to everything that happens in his story's cause anything can be relevant later. I thought the little war history were getting is rather interesting and I'm glad the elve village is getting attacked takes the focus off of the"3" which i'm sure will be our main 3 protagonist's of this story and stark focusing on the world around them.
-
Are we supposed to learn japanese history now…?
-
Well it's not a bad thing, but the interaction between the 3 during the history talk was pretty interesting IMO.
-
Are we supposed to learn japanese history now…?
Nothing wrong with historical fiction.

New chapter is out
i'm starting to like the three characters chemistry a lot
-
Toyohisa is older than I thought. (I pegged him for early 20s)
Still, this is great stuff. Although I'm kinda getting impatient to fine out what the bigger picture is.
-
Yea it's great to see that all the characters are not a bunch of teens like most mangas. I have to agree with GEPPETTOSMONSTER the chemistry so far is very good. Their were some really nice panels in this chapter.
-
i'm also extremely anxious to learn more about the plot and the chemistry between them mixed in with the historical fiction is superb
-
"are you gonna kill them cause they don't speak japanese?" - nobunaga
awesome line
-
New Chapter's out. Actually decent length and a decent amount of dialogue, too. Apparently the Octsys guys are suppressing the Elves, Dwarves, and Halflings of this world/timeframe. Meanwhile, Nobunaga does what he does best.
Like Hellsing, it's developing slowly, but the art of course is amazing and I'm enjoying the story.
-
This chapters been out for quite awhile. I like how this chapter broaden the story's horizen a little more than the previous chapters. I wonder after the swordsman guy (who's name I can never remember) get's rid of all of those octsys guys. If an elf or some sort of mage will cast a spell on the three to speak in their language.
-
New Chapter's out. Toyohisa really owned some face there. Hell, he even impressed Nobunaga. The Octsys guys are pissed, though…
-
I liked how toyohisa demanded the elves to "finish off" that general guy….very hirano like =D.
-
Been out for a while, but the new chapter is out, and…
Wait, what? Wha... what? Girlycard? What?!
That aside, it was cool to see it switch to Hannibal and Caesar. And now we have Bill Doolin and Wild Bill Dalton (who Hirano made look like Alucard, probably in tribute). Awesome. Gonna be some ass kicking going down.

new chapter is out
This "black king" guy, reminds me of a ring wraith from LOTR
-
He has a really cool dragonfly staff.
But damn, that is one KICK ASS looking Joan of Arc!
-
http://www.onemanga.com/Drifters/10/001/
the new chapter is here
! so what i'm getting so far is that the black king is the major enemy and that he captures "drifters" and some way or another has them serve under him and since his forces right now are too strong. These people try and keep these "new" drifters away from the black king. Oh and it's cool to see a pilot from WW2
-
From what I understand, the "Dark King" guy gives the Drifters that side with him the ability to use Magic. That's why, in this chapter, we saw Joan of Arc using Fire, the one 19th Century Japanese General going crazy with his sword, and the one woman (I don't recall who that is) using Snow magic.
Best I can figure is that the Drifters siding with the good guys (the citizens of this world) are basically fucked unless they get some kind of edge, too.
What I want to know is what side the Octsys guys are on. Are they with the Dark King guy, or are they just another force along with the Dark King and his army trying to take over this world? And the glasses guy… is he a good guy? Bad guy? Or is he just warping random Historical figures to this other world for shits and giggles?
One thing about Hirano... his art and his symbolism is fucking amazing... but his plot can be confusing as hell until the very end... and even then, it can still be confusing.
