I've listened to Japanese Music months ago, I swear I was addicted.
I didn't care what word they said, it sounded nice…

Please. Stop. Making. A. Poll. Without. Approval! >_< Get an approval before you create a poll thread next time, please.
I listen to Japanese songs. Even though I do understand Japanese, I don't really pay attention to lyrics. I just listen for the sound, I guess.

How can you tell if it has approval or not?

I've listen to JPOP-japanese pop– since I was elementary, and I was only around highschool and college that I kinda understand some of the words
Japanese music are nice!
-
I understand close to nothing in the music, but i like the beat :P
-
Mainly I don't understand what they are saying but as Terri says, I also like the beat and sound of the music. Though sometimes I understand tiny things like Tsubasa and so on.
-
Not actually gonna fill out the poll, because I'm somewhere in between. I don't just understand a little, but I don't understand everything either. I've been learning japanese over the past few years, so I have flashes of understanding alot of the time, although I don't know the perfect meaning, nor the meaning of some of the words.

2.I listen to Japanese music and understand a little or close to nothing. Well, I can manage to catch one or two words there…
-
For the most part, I don't understand a word. But that doesn't really bother me in the slightest, as I enjoy a lot of J-music genres regardless. :)
-
Aw, shit. Forgot again.
- Off to approve things *
Anyway… I listen to some Japanese music, but I don't understand 99% of it.

Myself, I listen to all sorts of music, J-rock and pop falling into the catagory. Personally I can't stand western pop, but the Japanese appeals to me. Not only do I love some of the voices, the patterning and the style tha is so very Japanese, I can actually understand it - as well, at least, as any western music out there. I was brought up to speak both languages, so I pretty much listen to both types of music.
Words and lyrics for me -personally- aren't as important as the singing, music, beat and how the song itself is presented. I can listen to meaningless tripe and love it just the same as how I can die of bordem as a monotone class mate goes into the "I have a dream speech". It's all about delivery, and if they haven't got it, it's not worth listening to.

I do listen to some artists (T&T, Nakashima Mika, Porno Graffiti) and while if I pay attention to the lyrics I can get the gist of the song (I'm so-so in my Japanese fluency tho' I'll still screw up (mikkabousu, anyone ? )) I usually don't, just like I usually wouldn't with any other language. If I'm listening to pop it's cause it's catchy - if it's rock it'll be classic rock because that's the only sound I like (screw that angsty shit that passes these days :P), classical music I'll listen to for its setting…
and then of course, there's jazz, in where I actually DO pay attention to both, but moreso the sound of the music. But I've gotten off topic a little  So yeah, I'll listen but not usually pay attention.

I listen to a lot of Japanese music, and I do understand the lyrics ^_^ I listen to it because I like the "music" part of the songs for the most part. There just seem to be more Japanese songs than American songs that I can really feel are good. Another reason, though, is also because my friends (Japanese friends lol) listen mainly to Japanese music too. So I listen to it because I try to keep up w/ what's current in Japan right now and because I just often like it more than American music.

I looove Japanese music!!!
It's the best!!! I like J-rock and J-pop!! I have too many bands that are my favorite!!!
Well last year i started Japanese lessons so now i can understand a lot of the lyrics!!I can't understand everything but the most of them i can ;)
When i watch the lyrics the words sounds better and it's pretty cool for translation! -
I understand almost nothing, but I love to listen to it anyway, becasue it makes me happy (porbably cuz I can't understand it…warped logic)
-
Understand most of it and love it…. :D
-
i listen to some j-pop but i dont understand most of it
lyrics to me are not as imporant as the sound and fel of the song so even in my english music there are few songs where i focus on what they are singing about -
I like the beat to Japanese music, but I can barely understand it. It annoys my dad everytime I listen to it, since he always complains that I don't know what they're saying.
-
I listen to Japanese songs, and for the most I don't care what it says as long as it sounds good. I also listen to some Chinese songs although I don't speak Chinese. It's all about the music. I've been listening to English songs before I know how to speak English, so why not other languages? Besides, even for songs in languages I know, I don't always know the lyrics either.
