Well, Disgaea is definitely one hell of a time killer. Sadly, it's not the "good" kind. The grinding is AWFUL, you find yourself spending hours leveling to level 18 just to take out the third boss, or rather kill all the enemies standing in your way AND the boss.
Grinding gets easier and easier as the game rolls on. If you properly use exp-boosting equipment, good leveling stages, and the Item World, you can easily gain a thousand levels in less than twenty minutes in the post-game. It does start slow, but after you've beaten the game once it gets faster and faster until it's easy.
But yes, it is a grinder that eats up a lot of time, but it's not the teeth-pulling that Buuhan always says it is. If you like building superpowered characters in a strategy RPG and you like the game's anime-styled characters and setting, then it's worth picking up. A tolerance for grinding is required, but it keeps getting easier the further you get in the game.
