I think we could expect quite the opposite. Remember how Oda depicted Crcodile during Marineford? Attacking Whitebeard, Sakazuki, the executioners? Oda really tried to hammer Crocodile's strength into the audience's mind, even as Crocodile had been the defeated villain over 300 chapters ago.

I think there's also a quote from Oda where he basically says that he doesn't like it that characters who were defeated in the past to be written off as "weaklings" by the audience.

But I hope you're right. Marco is one of my fav characters and I hope we get to see him kicking ass with his full powers. His fight with Kizaru got cut too short.

I think what he meant was Spandam's privileges in CP0, not CP9. He was CP9 because of his father, but he fucked up hard and should have been demoted or fired. But instead he's now a member of CP0, and he could have been promoted after Ryo's promotion to admiral.

I expected there to be more like 7-8 commanders. Four feels a bit too few for an organization as large and ambitious as the RA.

Can someone fluent in Japanese confirm whether they indeed said "THE four commanders" rather than something like "four of the commanders"?

Not necessarily. It might be normal in their culture. For example, Thai people have names that are literally random words in Thai, such as Sky, Rain, Crab, Chicken, Pig. And yes, even Egg is not an uncommon name.

Ok on the subject of the vivre card, according to op wiki page it says that small pieces of the vivre card point to the largest piece, and the largest piece points to the person the card is tied to.

This would make sense that Sabo gave Zoro his own vc but took a small piece for himself, so that Sabo can find Luffy if needed (the small piece points to the big piece that is in the possession of the strawhats), and Luffy can also find Sabo since the big piece would point to Sabo.

You sure that's Luffy's vc? That would make sense since Sabo took a small piece along with him.

It's just that in both ms and mr translations, Sabo says "this is a vc FOR Luffy" not "this is a vc of Luffy."
