    • RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 8 - Onigashima)

      So to be upfront, I am a believer of the number theory and don't really like Yamato, so personally at face value I thought his fruit flat out confirmed he wouldn't be joining. But I'm not close minded, and I have come up with an idea that I think has a solid chance of maybe being the solution.

      First of all, I have to say I don't actually know for sure if this is accurate since I don't know Japanese, but I do remember one of the previously posted lists of possible 2.9 names said Fuko fit and means Wolf. So what if the Inu Inu Model Ooguchi no Makami name is there to throw us off, to make people who believe the number theory think Yamato is definitely not joining, but then we get a scene where the fruit is nicknamed the "Fuko Fuko Fruit"?

      This could also solve the "guardian deity" issue as well, that could be how the scene plays out. During the wrap up of the arc Yamato decides he can't join because he has to stay as a guardian deity, but then Momo/Kinemon says "What are you talking about? Its jusy the Fuko Fuko Fruit, there's nothing holding you back from having an adventure." Yes that's a super crappy example, just something like that.

      As a believer of the theory, I'm not so precious about it that I'm against a loophole like this, and I think it would be a potentially clever way of for Oda to hold to the numbers without making it obvious.

      Being worried about what part of the story is being covered in a video game is kinda silly. The only concern should be if the game is fun. I appreciate them trying new things, but PW4 is widely considered to be half baked mechanically. They are not likely to add more to it, and if/when a PW5 comes they will probably want to revamp the mechanics rather than expanding from PW4 unlike how PW3 was built on 1 and 2.

      Ganbarian has actually been off the radar since World Seeker, so they will probably have something new soon. I'd love to see a return to Unlimited Adventure/Cruise style since I consider them just legit good games whether you like One Piece or not, but after World Red was make to cash in on the Monster Hunter clone fad, and World Seeker was made to cash in on the open world fad, I sadly doubt it will happen. They could also be working on another Grand/Gigant Battle too. I still consider Gigant Battle 2 to be the best One Piece fighting video game and would love to see something like that in HD.

      But when it comes to predictions, with Dragon Ball FighterZ DLC wrapping up, I'm still in fully belief that that dev team will be making a One Piece game next. That team has only made 3 games, first DBZ Extreme Butoden, then OP Dai Kaizoku Colosseum, both of those being kinda eh because they were on 3DS, and then they made DBFZ. I might be too hopeful for it, but the pattern is there.

      @Robby:

      Still no Moria on Bon Kurei or Wapol huh?

      Moria is even a completely finished character that was in the previous game!

      We actually know who the remaining ones are thanks to datamining. Kin'emon, Kiku and for some dumb reason Oden.

      Moriah and Kuma actually have a potential issue with the way PW4 redid some things. They properly sized characters this time, where they previously downsized larger characters. Specifically Whitebeard, Jozu, Vista and Pasafistas are much larger. My guess is they had issues simply upscaling their old movesets into bigger bodies.

      In general the game feels super unfinished and if you haven't gotten it yet and don't feel the need to get every OPPW installment, you should probably just wait for the next one.

      @Megadoomer:

      This will be the first Pirate Warriors game that I get, but I find something odd about the latest character videos that have been released. Is it just me, or is Nami the only one (out of the first five Straw Hats, at least) to not have her pre-time-skip version playable?

      I'm not sure how the previous games handled this, but I find it odd that all of the other post-time-skip Straw Hats have NW (for New World) after their names, but Nami does not.

      It's pretty clear to me what happened, but I get why you wouldn't notice since it's your first one. Her moveset was heavily changed, probably to accommodate to the new heavier focus on aerial combos. They made this new moveset more focused on her new abilities, therefore it wouldn't fit pre-TS, therefore there is no pre-TS Nami. Nami has always been an issue anyway. You never unlocked her until Enies Lobby due to her having Climatact moves, but she still ran around as an NPC before that. Maybe that will be the case again, but for the entirety of pre-TS since they cut down on so many arcs anyway.

      In general this game clearly feels like a stopgap to me. It feels like they wanted to spice things up with the aerial combo updates and fleshing out arcs more, but as a result they had to cut the roster and arcs featured. It just gives me the vibe that while there was a gap between PW3 and 4, 5 will be coming quickly to essentially bring the roster and arcs back up to PW3 levels but with the PW4 upgrades.

      I get what you're saying and I am genuinely curious, but what is the appeal of games like Pirate Warriors? I tried playing the first one and genuinely got bored of beating up endless repetitive hordes of guys. There's barely any skill involved(as far as I played).

      So is the appeal that its like a popcorn game where you just turn off your brain and enjoy punching, slicing people with One Piece Characters?

      Not a knock on the game or genre but simple curiosity on my part

      As a huge fan of all Warriors games, yes. They do have a little more depth than most give them credit for. But yes.

      @Robby:

      Robin actually plays okay, just unusually.

      She's better than Nami, first game's broken Franky that needed cola, and way better than either Chopper.

      Pre-skip Chopper and both Namis are actually 2 of the best characters in the game for quickly killing named enemies. While he sucks overall I think it's Chopper's S>T or T>S I forget which because it's been a while that is a grapple move that just owns any named enemy, and Nami can juggle infinitely with Thunderbolt Tempo in Style mode. The only characters that are unplayable to me in PW2 are Perona and post-skip Chopper.

      What I'm hoping they do for the Strawhats throughout the series is change a move here and there to declone the pre and post skip versions, but keep things mostly the same to they don't have to fill them up with filler moves.

      And for the story what I think they should just do is have an original story like PW2 but then have an afterthought canon story like the Another Log in PW1 just so it's there.

      Anyone who thinks there will be more than the 9 characters are kidding themselves. We know Link has 4 weapons, Zelda 2, and Midna 2. That's basically 14 characters. We also know that not everyone will have more than one weapon, so we're basically set for a first game already. I can see one or maybe two others getting a 2nd weapon, but that's it.

      The way I see it is they're using Agitha because they want to hold onto more of the popular characters for possible sequels.

      I'm still working on warriors orochi 3. I've gotten all the trophies… except for beating every level on chaos. I could just send in my level 99 and level 70 guys and barrell through it... but I picked out 30 or so favorites while grinding through the all costumes/all wallpapers trophies... and the entire point of doing that was so I could enjoy them... but at level 30 or 40 with unbuilt weapons those guys aren't quiiite ready for chaos yet.

      If you absolutly just want to get it over with, there's a somewhat cheap way of getting through the stages on Chaos in WO3. There's a skill called Thrift that No, Motochika, Liu Shan, Dong Zhuo and Zhang Jiao have. It "Reduces the amount of Musou Gauge used up (all team members)." and it stacks if all 3 characters have it. When a SW character uses a Musou they can freely run around and are invincible. So you pick No and Motochika with one of the other 3 (doesn't matter which) and at level S proficiency it makes No and Motochika's Musou's last a very long time, meaning you can freely do any level without any worry of being hit. The one big problem is that you can't use Siege Weapons while in SW Musou mode, so sometimes you might get stuck waiting for it to end. Though it also ends them if you run into a cutscene that has to load, or jump into water or onto a sloped wall. Well, and the other problem, being that it gets boring playing as 2 characters for 40 levels…

      Actually there was one. There was a trailer released one day showcasing Stickers. I think other mechanics too, but I mainly remember Stickers because that's what this story is about.

      What happened was they were showing putting Stickers on your character's trophy to give them enhancements for the story mode and while scrolling over a handful they scrolled over one that only gave enhancments to Ness, Lucas and Lucario, before they were announced. They later edited the trailer, but the damage was done because people had already been talking about it, screencapped it and recorded it.

      Yeah not saying they should, just an idea because it seemed like the biggest reason for complaint was less on the use of the name but that the actual character really isn't there and now they can't use the comic Mandarin as a result of using the name.

      @RobbyBevard:

      If they'd just called him a brand new character name there'd be zero problem. Take away the title "The Mandarin" (and thus the history, the empire, the associated clout, the backstory, the powers, etc) and then the character as presented is perfectly fine.

      Could even call him "Zhang Tong" (one of his aliases) and then that combined with his outfit, you get the nod, without all the baggage of a much more impressive character than what the movie gave, and sidestep all the issues of wasted potential entirely.

      Here's an idea I thought of. How would you feel if say in Phase 3, after Doctor Strange, they make Iron Man 4 and the villain is comic Mandarin in all but name? All the character background of comic Mandarin but he goes by his real name if he has one or an alias such as Zhang Tong as you bring up.

      Would you like this, or would you feel like it was just backpeddling and dislike it?

      It really won't take many games to get to adding a good amount of side characters. Counting up every main antagonist there's 12 (as of now, including Dofla), so either the 4th game will be pretty much only side characters, or more likely they'll save the more minor and less popular main angonists for later and the 3rd game will even have room for a few side characters. Either way we're looking at a lot of side characters by the 4th game. Though while I say all this, it still most likely means 3-4 years from now.

      So its exactly like the partner summon in Gundam Musou 3 then. Ultimately you just gave everyone one of 2 or 3 partners, because they had the useful area affecting/powerful attacks.

      @RobbyBevard:

      There's going to be one or two characters more overall broken than the rest, they'll end up being what always get attached.

      Not quite. Playable characters become fully playable for about 10 seconds and do a Musou-like finishing hit. The NPCs just do a single move, but they seem to be more powerfull as a trade off. It's not really like Gundam 3 where you stuck with Deathscythe Hell/Infinite Justice for it's huge AOE tornado effect. They're pretty much all the same.

      I think I used the partner system once last time. Saw it was pretty much pointless and ignored it. Considering we've only seen Jozu, Vista and Iva as unique partners and no indication of tag attacks I'll not be bothering with this one either.

      It was a way to do an extra few hits without being able to take damage, and if you abused it you could stock an extra Musou attack with it. It was pretty much over powered and broken. They completely changed it this time, it's really just a 2nd part to the power up mode where you either play as someone else or just get another super strong hit if it's an NPC. And I don't know why you think it's only Jozu, Vista and Iva, it's every NPC.

      While I'm fine with the overall roster, like always I have to scratch my head over some of the picks. I can't help but think they should have gone for Moriah, Lucci and Magellan over Perona, Garp and Marco. The only problem there is that there's no new girls I guess, which aside from her own popularity is why they chose Perona. But even then Marco and Perona aren't totally bad picks, just come off as bad when we're still missing so many main antagonists.

      So I guess the next reveal should be Blackbeard, Mihawk, Jinbe and Hammok. Then the one or two more weeks before the game is out they'll show the pre-TS Strawhats and maybe some returning NPCs.

      I know they wont do it, but I really think Koei just needs to eliminate Empires and make their modes a standard feature of the main releases. They also really need to eliminate Xtreme Legends now that they can (and do) make DLC. As much as I do like the gameplay, I have to agree the way they pump games out this way is pretty dumb. At least it's pretty much limited to Dynasty Warriors. And this is mostly off topic… So...

      I don't think characters like Hachi/Hannyabal/Blueno/ect will be playable (without starting from scratch) because if you actually look at them they basically have one or two unique moves and then one or two taken from the Marine Leaders. I think leaving those kinds as NPCs are fine. There's plenty to make playable for a few games and having extra named characters for enemies (or allies) that are semi-generic is fine because it adds variety.

      For the UK yes. Namco confirmed the EU version about 2 or 3 days after the normal version was announced. They even put up a new trailer on Christmas Day with it subbed. Not sure if they've gone back and confirmed an American release or not.

      This is how Koei's games always work. They announce them pretty early for Europe because they're actually popular there, and then much later just sort of stealth announce it for America at the last second.

      Glad to see they're finally throwing away the square rooms with hallways designs from Gundam 3 and One Piece 1. Also just looks like more enemies at a time, which is awesome. The Style bar for power up modes seems like a good idea too. And the way Crew Rush seems to work now looks better as well.

      Movesets are just slightly altered (as I hoped). Gomu Gomu no UFO and Asura: Ugui are just new Square 5/Triangle 5s that follow the old Square 4s.

      Also it sounds like it says there will be a longer trailer at JUMP Festa at the end there?

      New Ken's Rage 2 trailer

      They have also been putting up 30ish second gameplay videos for all the playable characters over the last few weeks, and they finally finished them off with Bat and Lin. You can find them all here on the official site if interested. http://www.gamecity.ne.jp/shokuto/movies.html

      @Cyber-Robin:

      Wait so is it DW8 the trailer was for because it says there it's DW7? Confused.

      It's Shin Sangoku Musou 7, which will be Dynasty Warriors 8. Sangoku Musou was a fighting game and localized in the west as Dynasty Warriors. Koei then started the hack and slash series we now know and love naming it Shin Sangoku Musou, which was localized in the west as Dynasty Warriors 2. So now 6 games later Japan gets Shin Sangoku Musou 7 and we get Dynasty Warriors 8.

      Similarly, what will be Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage 2 is actually Shin Hokuto Musou in Japan, as Koei's way of saying "Yeah we're sorry about that last one. Let's pretend it didn't happen, ok?"

      And on the flip side, Warriors Orochi 2 was actually Musou Orochi: Maou Sairin in Japan, so Warriors Orochi 3 is actually Musou Orochi 2 for them.

      First trailer for DW8:

      Oh and since it wasn't posted before, here's the couple week old Ken's Rage 2 trailer since it's coming out sooner than DW8 anyway.

      Of course they will. The only change to them will be stage redesign, which is for the best anyway. They need to quit it with the square rooms and hallways set up from Gundam 3 and OP1.

      I was just thinking and thought of something. This… Might actually be localized. At the time of D.O.N. 4Kids had One Piece and Viz has Naruto. Jump Stars just had way too many random series. But this... All FUNimation.

      I'm surprised that the Samurai/Gundam/Hokuto/One Piece team didn't even wait until after releasing Shin Hokuto Musou to announce their next game. I guess they wanted to announce it quick for the same reason as last time, so they can show what little they've made at Jump Festa. While I can't wait for Gundam 4, I'm glad they did this first. Gundam 2 and 3 were massive improvments, so I think they needed to get to OP2 sooner to fix the problems the first had.

      I'm really hoping the time skip stuff is very limited. Still just Luffy, Zoro and Sanji, or maybe just treat them all like the Perfect Clima-Tact and Kabuto from the first game where putting the costume on would tweek their movesets but they're still largely the same. It's still far too soon to make full post time skip movesets without having them becoming outdated fast.

      I'm also pretty disappointed there's no Wii U listed. I want to just be done with Sony and their no dub no disk crap. Though I would rather even more so Koei just start dubbing games again, but I know that wont happen, at least any time soon.
