I don't think that's ever really happened. So if it has, it's extremely rare to the point that it doesn't really count as a comparison. With fishfolk and merfolk it seems to happen all the time.

Well, it has happened. And it's been documented well enough that you can prove it for yourself with a simple Google search. Genetics are funny in what they can do. And yes, it does count as a comparison. Because it's literally the same thing. The only difference is the fact that it's much more frequent of a phenomenon among fishpeople – to the point that it's commonplace to them and they think it's no big deal.

But you -can- come out as a different race than your parents. A child from two white parents can be born with black skin if either parent has a black ancestor. It doesn't matter how far back. The odds of it being the dominant trait for your skin pigment is pretty terrible. But it does happen. Black couples have also given birth to white-skinned children. The merfolk just have a much more exaggerated version of that.

Neither Wiper or Franky would have stood idle while one of his own gets butchered. Even if he does lose his respect for Hachi it's a bit much to dismiss Hodi as not quite evil when he sits there with one arm boredly propped up on his chair while Hachi is about to become a pincushion some 20 yards away.

I…what? Wasn't it just a few issues back that Hodi went on a massive steroid-induced rage and needlessly wiped out a pirate crew just to send a vague warning to other humans that may or may not actually find said dying pirate crew?
