Is it just me or does the Vice Admiral with the beard and fat cigar look like Pluto from Popeye? I certainly wouldn't be surprised given the parallels between Popeye and Franky themselves…

RE: Happy Birthday!!
Woah, this was unexpected. o.o I didn't notice such a thread existed until a very kind personal message was given to me. Thanks everyone for the great Birthday wishes. :D I haven't posted on this site for ages but of course watch for all the OP updates.
Got a fair bit of money too, so that's going to manga and anime models. >=D

RE: Your friends, family, and anime.
My sister is okay when it comes to anime, usually she'd just ask to borrow a DVD when she hasn't got anything else to do. She's seen all of Love Hina and loved it and watched some GTO and One Piece too. I think she's read some Negima as well, but I can't remember.
The rest of my family understand that I love anime, but have never actually watched any of it with me, or if they have simply don't appreciate it. I guess I'm lucky to have one close friend who's an otaku nerd too and loves anime like me, including the same anime. We frequently lend each other our anime and manga and generally discuss what happens or theories on what will happen and such.
The rest of my friends are uncaring, I guess. I got about two other people interested in the Battle Royale manga but not enough for them to buy their own copies (the amount of times my BR manga has been lent has practically destroyed them, meaning no more lending) and a lot of my other friends have seen the Battle Royale film, but I digress.
A lot of people only see anime as Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, DBZ or Digimon, which is a bit sad.

RE: Why isnt Shaman King that popular?
Ah, Shaman King… I love it. It’s definitely one of my favourite ever series and regardless, Anna will always be my favourite anime character ever.
It had a great concept and truly lovable characters. The cultural diversity was indeed fantastic, but yes, some of it did indeed become a bit too stereotypical, but regardless it was a fun romp.
As for where it went wrong… the anime. At first the anime was my first exposure to the series, and I absolutely loved it, but compared to the manga it’s horrible. The anime only ever reached around Volume 18 of the manga, completely leaving out the latter half to Volume 32. However, despite it, I think one of the major problems was pacing. The series was just so slow… it wasn’t towards the beginning, but it really slowed down in the latter half, and this was probably what caused a lack of popularity, people were just getting bored and waiting for the next part was becoming a drag. Kind of like how Skypiea turned off a lot of OP fans.
Regardless of that though I quite liked the pacing, it was a growing storyline which needed it’s time and even if the pacing was slow the art was beautiful (Volume 1-3 less so, but the later volumes were gorgeous). There was perhaps a bit too much mecha in it as well (The whole angels series and a storyline that went on for like 3 volumes where everyone would just constantly fight and get pwned by one mecha). Despite it, the villains were amazing and the selections of enemies on Hao’s team were great (Blocky, the three girls. <3) In fact, the fight between Anna, Tamao and Jun/Lee Pailong vs. those three girls was exceptional.
The ending was disappointed due to the cancellation, and it really feels out of place. As for what happened to Hao… what the fuck.
Prologue series was, I think, something called Butsu Zone that featured Anna in it. As for the Epilogue series, there was a collection of short stories revolving around Anna and Yoh’s child, Hana, who goes with Ryu to gather the five warriors for… something or other. No idea what, but grown up Anna = <3 According to the story, Anna and Yoh must have done the deed at around Vol. 9 of the series, if memory serves me correctly.
I own the entire collection of 32 Chinese volumes, and even if I don’t understand them, the art is gorgeous. I’d have loved to have seen a proper conclusion but alas it looks not to be. Oh well.

RE: Chapter 403 "Mr. Chivalry" Discussion
An absolutely awesome chapter. Sanji fighting against Calipha was awesome, and although he lost due to his chivalrous ways, he would have still been able to pwn Califa if he didn't have to keep by his code.
Truely awesome.

RE: Buying Japanese One Piece Manga
Well, whether you desperately need it to be Japanese or not, a particular Ebayer I know and have bought from before has either all 40 or 39 of the Chinese One Piece books, at a relatively low and worthwhile price. I shouldn't think that whether it's Japanese or Chinese should affect you, seeing as you're going to use Stephen's scripts.
If you want more information of that particular Ebayer, PM me.

RE: Chapter 402 "2nd Handcuff" Discussion
Absolutely awesome, thanks for the chapter.
Chopper's back. <3 Although I'd personally wish for both Sanji and Nami to fight alone, it doesn't look like it'll happen… however, I think Chopper might meet up with Franky and help the low on coke powered cyborg. This'd work nicely in also setting up a team dynamic between them, as Franky is likely to join the team, and has only really worked and met with Sanji and Ussop so far.
...Hmm, I could just imagine the potential hilarity with Luffy/Ussop/Chopper/Franky during some down-time after this arc. XD

RE: Is there still hope…
KatanaJon1.1
Then we would really find out who that Angel-winged guy is!Hell yeah!
3-Swords-Style
My thoughts are exactly the opposite. I think that rop-action could be improve way more than the cola-cyborg-thing of FrankyHmm, perhaps. But in what way could you see improvement? How do you think Paulieâ€s attack and techniques could improve?
And by the way, for Paulieâ€s chances of ever improving in joining the Mugiwara pirates would be if he used his rope abilities to go across the bridge to where all the action is, the battle against CP9. Iâ€d see this as quite possible given Paulieâ€s drive to battle those who betrayed him, namely Lucci.
Hmm, Chopper and Paulie battle against Lucci to hold him off long enough until Luffy arrives maybe?

RE: Future bounties
My prediction:
Luffy-200 million
Zoro-120 million
Nami-70 million
Ussop-0 million
Sogeking-90 million
Sanji-130 million
Chopper-60 million
Robin-150 million
Franky-140 million -
RE: Is there still hope…
I prefer Paulie to Franky, his battle style is fantastic and I personally love it, but compared to Franky there isn't really much in the way of improving the style and introducing new moves, compared to Franky. Paulie's chances of joining are steadily decreasing, unfortunately, whilst Franky looks more likely.
But, as people have said, it had always looked likely that ViVi might join given she has had a flashback alike Franky, but instead Robin joined, and there is still the possibility of Paulie getting a later flashback.
I'd be much more impressed by Oda if the crewmember was someone completely different from either person. XD

RE: Chapter 401 "Pirates vs. CP9" Discussion
Ooh, I missed the complete lack of Chopper in this chapter. :( I wonder where he is.
As for next chapter, I hope that they continue this specific fight between Zoro, Ussop and Jyabura and Kaku and not skip to another character's fight, like some mentioned, even if it is in brief just to see some dialogue.
And yes, like others have said, Jyabura's ridiculing comments will be awesome. :D

RE: Chapter 401 "Pirates vs. CP9" Discussion
Absolutely awesome, thanks a lot. Jyabura does look more badass.

RE: Ken Akamatsu thread (A.I. Love You, Love Hina, Negima, UQ Holder)
Yeah, I noticed the Setsuna flashback, but I was hoping for something perhaps more, like a full-blown storyline actually mentioning it was Motoko itself.
If we're just going on panel cameo's, though, I noticed some more. I can't remember what volume it is, but remember the scene when all the kids are coming off the train, and we see a heck of a lot of students pour out from it in a double page splash? In it you can see the younger versions of Naru, Kitsune, Shinobu, and, if memory serves me, Motoko. These cameos are nice, but I just wanted something that was actually having them as main characters.
Another funny cameo is when Negi and the Baka Rangers just returned from the test and the results are announced. In one panel you see the school girl Kitsune throw away all her bets after she lost! XD
Mai or Mei was Naru's sister(half-sister? step-sister?) that was featured quite heavily in the Love Hina anime, and is also seen in the last two page spread in LH.

RE: Ken Akamatsu thread (A.I. Love You, Love Hina, Negima, UQ Holder)
Negima is a fantastic manga and far out shines the rest of Akamatsu-sensei's works. At first I didn't think the idea of 30 girl students + even more characters would work so well, but I'm glad I was wrong. All of the characters are awesome and I'm enthralled in the entire storyline.
So far, I've got up to Vol. 8 on the Del. Ray english version, and own 1 through 12 of the Chinese version. Some of the latest stuff has definitely surprised me, but regardless I'm most thrilled with Mai's appearance. I hoped that a character from one of Akamatsu's earlier works would appear, most likely Motoko given her school's relation to Setsuna, but Mai's appearance in a way works better. Truely awesome.
The anime… ack, hated it. Some of the voice actors were nice and made some enjoyable songs (all versions of Happy Material, Kizuna, and Maze in the Dark), but, I'm sure along with the rest of you, the animation itself was awful. It surprisingly picked up in Ep. 26, but even then the storyline was horrible. Bah.
But regardless, the manga! Truely awesome. ^_^

RE: Can anyone else see it yet? (battle prediction)
Lucci eating a rumble ball definitely sounds like an interesting idea, but I doubt he will.

RE: Chapter 400 "Key of Liberation" Discussion
Ah, I see. I know that both Blueno and Luffy used it upon each other, just couldn't really remember if they did it at the same time.
It would be nice to see a spectator's view on it, though, especially someone like Spandam's. XD

Avast, me hearties!
Hi there, just began posting on an account I made a little while yet never properly used. Ack.
Anyway, I have to say this is an exceptional forum and from what I've read, all of the forummers on the site have extremely intriquing ideas and views upon the One Piece world, some theories that I've read have certainly helped me to look upon One Piece in a new light.
Just a few personal details, my favourite character is Robin, and my favourite arc itself was… well, it's difficult to judge. I will say though that I immensely loved Skypeia for it's Battle Royale esque elements, even if it did admittedly drag on a while.
So, yeah, just a hi from me. :)

RE: Chapter 400 "Key of Liberation" Discussion
Yeah, Dragonball was sort of what I was thinking of back then. Gah, don't know why, just been a bit nostalgic and rewatching ol'DB. But it makes sense to me, Luffy knows Soru, and, well, Lucci obviously does as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.
What I was thinking of though was having it less over the top as it did get in DB sometimes though, maybe more like when Yamcha was taking on the Saibamen.
But I digress. Thanks for the warm welcome. :D

RE: Should Fukuro get a Mini-Story?
Sounds good to me. Some nice ideas, and he does seem Mini-story material, however, personally I think that out of this arc it will either be Franky or Paulie, whichever one doesn't join the Mugiwara.

RE: Chapter 400 "Key of Liberation" Discussion
Hi, new to the board. Well, been lurking on it for ages now (since half-way through the Puffing Tom train battles), and registered a little while ago, just never had the strange motivation to post. o.o Oh well, 400th Chapter deserves something special at least, eh?
As for the battle line-ups, I was pretty surprised but pleased in all aspects. :) I expect Luffy will no doubt get lost somewhere along the way and Chopper will unexpectedly meet up with Lucci, where he needs to hold him off long enough. Obviously, Chopper will lose (and the effect this might have on his confidence?) will result in Luffy being angry as soon as he arrives, leading to an intense battle.
I wonder if we'll get a Soru based part of the battle, where the pair of them are going so fast that they are naked to the invisible eye. And I can only imagine Spandam's face if he sees this… XD
But I'm getting ahead of myself, that will no doubt not come for months. I'm looking most forward to Nami and Sogeking's battles, but that's not to say all of them aren't interesting... well, other then Franky. I don't know, I'm just not particularly exicted to see him battle. Oh well.
