Good to see the old girl back, even if the plastic surgery makes it look like a different dame altogether.

RE: One Liner Questions
RoboBlue addressed this in the Downtime thread. It's a forum thing, nothing on your end.
edit-
Robo said on discord it's probably a DNS issue. -
RE: Channel Awesome, AVGN, and other web review shows
I remember him saying he liked Maximum Carnage.
Unless he has 90s Kid handle it in satire of 90s comic values, that's gonna be a tough comic to review. From the defense side, your job is to convince your audience the rinse-repeat formula of moral slap fights and one-sided battles are deep and entertaining. If Linkara has changed his opinion about the comic, all he can do is point out they're doing the formula a trillion times.

RE: The Arlong Park Anniversary thread!
And OMG where are Aftershock and The Dude? Have they abandoned us?
You're just now noticing Aftershock's disappearance? That guy was a fable by the time I was lurking in Sept 05.

RE: Disney animation thread
I've heard (from SimpsonsTubers) that season 33 is a minor renaissance of quality character-driven stories, plus some fine tuning like getting rid of jerkass Homer and giving Smithers an actual romance with a new character.

RE: Disney animation thread
New Chip and Dale trailer is out.
Peter just looks like the personification of "MY CHILDHOOD'S BEEN RAPED!"
I was curious about this but now I'm all for it.

RE: Disney animation thread
Aw, come on, guys. Disney isn't homophobic. They have vague, barely-acknowledged, easy to dub-out for foreign markets gay romances all the time!

RE: Channel Awesome, AVGN, and other web review shows
Lady Emily takes an empathetic almost-2-hour look at the controversies of post-movie AVGN, from his drop in quality to his new co-stars to the ravenous hatedom of Cinemassacre Truth.
What I love about this video is that it's less a finger point at James's current work and more someone jumping back into AVGN after years away, discovering how much things have changed, and trying to understand everyone's mind-sets and how fanboys should handle their idols changing with age and priority. Definitely a must-watch if you're really into Lindsay Ellis or, friend of Emily, Sarah Z.
edit- Before someone posts, "Controversies?! Aw no, what did James do?! I thought he was one of the good ones!" He hasn't hurt anyone. The backlash is mostly reactions to his current body of work. Actually, the propping up of James as the internet patron saint of kindness and decency is briefly brought up as a reason why some people want to knock his reputation down a few pegs, and why such reputations are probably not that healthy a thing to give someone.

RE: Disney animation thread
Surely you can't base that on the trailer alone?
This is your first time on the internet, isn't it?

RE: Disney animation thread
"The show that defined a generation" is a nice way of saying furries were really into it.
As bizarre as this looks, you know what, can't say I've seen a movie where an animated duo squabble because one got CGI surgery. I can't think of any mainstream movie that makes fun of those mid/late -2000s CGIfests like Polar Express or Beowulf. I've complained about so many movies and show being rehashes of old ideas, not old properties, but old ideas. So I feel, on principle, I shouldn't condemn something with at least two clever ideas, one of which really works with the metaness. I know there's probably a whole lot of tired cliches here the trailer isn't showing, but two clever ideas is enough to make me the most cautiously of cautiously optimistic.
Who'd they get My Little Pony? Yeah, I know Disney could just fork over the money for licensing, but I'm so used to companies pinching every penny they can.

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
The contrast between the fun and energetic energy from the Guardians and the very serieus Warlock could be where the fun will be.
Ronan wasn't a stand-up comedian either
A problem with making Warlock contrastingly serious is that it's been done twice before with Ronan and also Drax. Would get pretty redundant and boring if Warlock ended up being basically Golden Ronan.
-
RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
Will Poulter joins the MCU as Adam Warlock in GotG 3.
Warlock's the brooding philosopher type in the comics; a guy who takes things very seriously. I doubt someone like that would work in a GotG movie. Wonder how they'll change him.

RE: RIP Those We Lost in 2021
After releasing an instagram video that played like a suicide note yesterday, ex-wrestler Shannon Spruill/WCW's Daffney has taken her own life at the age of 46.

If you or someone you know has suicidal thoughts, please remember/let them know: every tomorrow has the chance to be better. Seek professional help, talk to loved ones, take that long-awaited me time. You do not need to be quiet, you are not a horrible person for feeling horrible inside, you can be better.

RE: Non-Disney animation thread
of course you'll find someone who "loves" just about any show.
That's true, but with it having more airtime on Nick rewind years ago than Rugrats ever did, having official DVDs from Shout, and the duo getting an announcement trailer for them being in Nick All-Stars, the series has clearly gotten more love from Nick higher-ups than the fans ever gave it, and I don't know why. My point wasn't "is there LITERALLY anyone who likes this?" and more "Has anyone realized the higher-ups at Nick love this show more than their viewers do?"
-
RE: Non-Disney animation thread
So, does anyone actually like CatDog? I don't mean 'doesn't hate it, thinks it's a C+ effort' like it, but 'loves it' like it. I've never heard anyone talk about the show or have memories of watching it or have a favorite episode or have strong feelings or praise anything other than the admittedly-catching opening. Didn't hear anyone talk about it ten days ago, didn't hear anyone talk about it ten years ago. It always seemed like a footnote in the Nickelodeon history book. But when Nick embraced 90s nostalgia, it seems they arbitrarily placed CatDog into the same nostalgic-echelon as Rugrats and All That. I think I missed something. It's like if Warner Bros tried to push Channel Umptee-3 as being just as beloved as Animaniacs and Freakazoid.

RE: RIP Those We Lost in 2021
Some of the shock of losing Asner gets lost in him living past 90. Once someone you know hits 80, you should start mentally preparing yourself for their death. Something my mom taught me a couple years before my grandfather died.
RIP Asner. Odd how some actors with years in the business get best remembered for their works aimed at kids.

RE: Western Comics thread
MacKay's Moon Knight slaps and will probably take Immortal Hulk's forfeited crown as my favorite current title. It's both a 'best of' of past writers like Lemire, Ellis, and sometimes Huston, but still feels distinctly its own.

RE: Non-Disney animation thread
The fart and butt jokes didn't do much for me either.
But then again, I've seen so many cartoons that will settle for a fart and JUST a fart. Having Durpleton see his farts as an allegory for his disapproving dad and wishing thoose crowd-clearers of his could be more supportive and encouraging is… unique. I'm always willing to give points for something unique, no matter how stupid it is.
-
RE: Non-Disney animation thread
@Daz:
especially Durpleton
Yeah, I just finished the first episode. I can tell Durpleton will be my least favorite but-not-necessarily-hated character and Glendale would be my favorite.

RE: Non-Disney animation thread
I see it's called Nickelodeon All Stars and not Nicktoon All Stars. I expect stages for the Snick couch, the AYAOTD? campfire, OLMEC's temple, a Kablam comic book, Stick Stickly's table, and Weinerville. What do ya mean no?!

Pesto: "Miss me? Miss me?! What? You mean with a rock? You gonna throw a rock at me but miss? You saying it's my job to sit here and let you throw rocks at me? Is dat what you're saying?"
Squit: "No, no no, Pesto. I'm not gonna throw a rock at ya. I'm just saying now that your voice actor is dead, I'm really gonna miss ya."
Pesto: "…. You're gonna miss me?"
Squit: "Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna miss ya."

RE: Pixar movies
One great description I heard about Luca, I think from Double Toasted
If you're a depressed adult who wants another Inside Out, this isn't what your looking for.
If you're a happy kid or a happy kid-at-heart looking for the next Good Dinosaur, you found a goldmine. -
RE: Channel Awesome, AVGN, and other web review shows
Even though I wasn't a big FNAF fan, I was the kind of person who argued the scares didn't come from cheap jump scares (except for the hallucinations in, I think it was, three) but from the tension of trying so hard to prevent the jump scares from happening. I always felt Cawthon was a decent enough guy what with using his criticisms of older games to create FNAF that he deserved to have his work defended like that.
So much for that mindset.

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
On the plus side, 50% this means a new MCU Inhumans that don't suck.
-
RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
I mean Stan Lee is pretty much synonymous with Marvel, he and Jack Kirby pretty much made it what it is today
I wasn’t offended by them using that
Uh, I think you misread 'they took a protest against prejudicial murder and turned it into an advert for a movie' as 'Nothing Stan Lee has ever said should be used to advertise Marvel because he's dead.'
-
RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
I
Disney's marketing department took a quote from a now dead man
and twisted it into a smultzy advertisement for their next few junkfood movies. That's just cold.

RE: Western Comics thread
I guess even though technically some of these writing decisions feel more like regression then attempts at making something for fresh.
That's the other reason comic book writers are weird - the infamous ones are obsessive fanboys who went legit. Looking at you, Quesada.

RE: Channel Awesome, AVGN, and other web review shows
If you find yourself loudly, proudly and smugly shouting at the entire internet that something a ton of people like actually sucks, you kind of forfeit the right to be upset when people rake you over the coals for it.
Well this just sounds like anti-individualism with some window dressing.
As someone who's gotten more death threats for my opinions on movies and anime than I have for my political beliefs, stop. Please stop.
