@Refii:
No, I don't judge something based on the idiocy of other followers or "appointed leaders."
I don't think you understand. I'm not saying that the Christian message is illegitimate because of whatever percentage of Christians are dicks - if I was saying that, anyone could bring up the fact that there are enough extremely charitable Christians to make the argument invalid.
A core part of Christian belief is that Christ's death was the single-most important event in the history of the planet, and yet we could have just easily never heard of it. The only argument to counter this is that God Himself had a part in the spreading of the message, but that would mean that God Himself had a part in all the horrible ways the message was spread.
And from a spiritual perspective, I challenge you to find me something wrong with Buddhism…
Reincarnation doesn't happen. That's what's wrong with Buddhism.
@CosmicDebris:
It's not "primarily". The Fundie bible thumpers everyone likes to make fun of are a minority in the whole world. They're just the loudest people and they own a lot of media.
Exactly, and since they're the loudest ones, they're actually spreading Christ's message, even if that message differs from your interpretation. The point remains that if some people in the world hear about Jesus at all, they hear it from the "Fundie Bible thumpers."
The bible explains all those questions pretty well.
Because there's only one interpretation of the Bible, obviously. I mean, the only way you could really claim the Bible explains anything is if you believe the Bible should be taken word-for-word literally - which, as I understand it, is the definition of a fundamentalist.
Am I supposed to give it up because some people suck?
No. But the fact that the people who suck are the ones responsible for the spreading of the Christian religion is evidence of the wholly un-supernatural quality of religious belief.
You're talking as if Christianity just recently spread in the technological age of western civilization. XD
Well, before then, Christianity was spread by genocidal military explorers who killed and/or enslaved the indigenous people of the lands they conquered, so, you know, the point stands.
@Natty:
i just cant imagine a life where I dont believe in anyting, and have absolutely nothing to look foward after life.
Okay, but does "this belief makes me happy" usually imply "this belief is true"? Or, if anything, does it usually imply the opposite?
