I have a friend who absolutely refuses to read the manga and watches the anime exclusively. I showed him this opening and asked him to analyze the opening.

"not a fan of the song"
"at least it shows some cool fighting scenes with the marines"
"although sanji would probably get killed by old man kiz"

Although my friend may be an outlier, he wasn't upset or notice any spoilers that may have occurred in the opening after watching it a few times. I thought it was a great opening IMO, definitely gets me excited for the show.

Great chapter. Manga Stream version is out for those that are curious.

! What I'm puzzled about is why Eren did not transform into his titan form when he went up against the Smiling Titan. It seemed all hope was loss, with no 3D maneuver gear and Mikasa being heavily injured. I was expecting him to turn into one since it looked like death was inevitable.

Great to see Thriller Bark getting this treatment! I remember that arc feeling very dragged out when I was on a One Piece marathon.

Alright awesome! Now the question is if they are going to keep the original Japanese opening or Funimation found a way to dub the song.

You're missing the point, I'm not saying that the over analyzing is something new, I said that it has grown so much out of proportion that it turns people into hypocrites. I don't care that people waste time on a forum discussing One Piece, if I did I wouldn't have an account in the first place.

The thing that annoys me is that stuff gets blown out of proportion. Boobs have always been a part of One Piece, there have been a ton of sexual jokes, Sanji ejaculated 5 liters of blood onto a mermaids breasts and Luffy has been jerked of by the majority of Amazon tribe.

Now a 5 second scene of Sanji gliding through the most unrealistic meat colored nippleless balloons ruins the whole episode, the horror.

Open up any random magazine that you have lying in your house, turn your tv on or watch a music video chances are 99.9% that you find more hardcore porn then what you just saw in this episode of One Piece.

Hypocritical, and I don't care about the time you spend on the forum over analyzing stuff otherwise I would've started a petition to ban you from the anime section long ago.

You're awesome. Thank you. Seriously if Oda had wrote put the boob slide in the manga no one would make such a big fuss about it.

I highly doubt there any anime-only watchers here. As much as its appreciated to prevent spoilers, just looking at people's avatars and signatures that haven't been introduced in the manga would have ruined much of the surprise for them.

Futhermore, if you look at the symbolism of the D line.. "Gold" Roger.. gold is linked symbolically with the sun.. and the straw hat itself is sort of a solar symbol… Jaguar D "Sol", Ace's fire powers and that he became sort of a "sun" when he fought BB, BB himself being sort of a "black sun" or "black hole", the Thousand Sunny.. and there are probably more.

The bolded are pretty farfetched. If this was to work, all the people with D in their name would have some reference to the sun, which is not clearly evident with people like Garp and Dragon. Also if you're throwing in ships you have to consider the Oro Jackson.

Chopper doesn't turn into a deer when he falls into the water. Maybe the water weakens you and turns you into your most common form. It's filler. Those weather changes were absurd.

Those weather changes were canon worthy. It was awesome.

Bear in mind that the writer of the article is not saying Oda is directly copying them, so he isn't trying to bash One Piece, even though the article title seems otherwise. He is just pointing our possible influences that he had found on a 2ch forum.

However, I have to agree, most of the comparisons are pretty farfetched.

On 2ch, Japan's largest bulletin, a thread popped up with the title, "Concrete Proof of One Piece's Plagiarism lulz". In this thread, an image showed seemed to detail how One Piece continues to knock off Disney and Tim Burton. Or does it?

In the above gallery, you can see comparisons from that thread. Most of the Disney examples are from either the 1989 film The Little Mermaid or the 1992 film Aladdin. There are a few from the 1993 film Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.

One Piece did not begin its run until August 1997; though, it did make an appearance the year before, in 1996.

Yes, some of the comparisons are fairly clear, and it's easy to see the outside influences in One Piece. The manga's creator, Eiichiro Oda, has never been shy about professing his love for other manga or cartoons.

But, if I had never seen these comparisons, I'm not sure if I would have drawn them myself. Influences are only a bad thing if they result to dull, stifled copying. Influences are at their most beneficial if they are reworked and result in the creation of something new. Reading One Piece isn't like reading The Little Mermaid or Aladdin—or even Oda's beloved Dragon Ball. It's like reading One Piece. It is its own thing.

If you are a One Piece fan, and you haven't seen these comparisons before, they're fascinating and do open up a new level of appreciation of what Oda has created. Good manga artists copy. Great ones steal.

I didn't watch 384 before since it was listed as a filler on the One Piece Wiki, but boy am I glad you mentioned it. Great, relaxing episode. It reminds me of how much less down time the Straw Hats have had in a long time. There needs to be more episodes/chapters with just the crew being themselves.

Zoro…why are you so cool

I liked that Toei is using Big Mam instead of Big Mom. It sounds more menacing imo.

One gripe I got to ask is why did the Straw Hats go to Skypiea in the first place? I think this was the one time where they went off-track for their quest for One Piece. All the islands they visited beforehand I believe were lead by the log pose. I don't think there was any plot-driven reason to go there. If it wasn't for Enel and his awesome Lightning Lightning fruit, this would of been a dry arc in my opinion.

I actually enjoyed the filler fight as I thought something was missing in the manga. Without it, in my opinion Luffy would have had no opponent. In the manga Hordy did jack squat against him and I was really disappointed. I know Hordy was suppose to be more of a nuisance than an actual opponent for Luffy, and that's what dragged down the arc for me. There were definite problems with it though such as Hordy being faster than Luffy on land. As for the reason why the Red Hawk was weaker, Hordy took a nice bite on his left shoulder. Other than that, I liked it.

Brooke's finisher was well done, as was Franky's and Zoro's. Chopper, Usopp, and Sanji's definitely needed more kick. Choppers seemed like he just brushed aside him, Usopp's attack didn't look strong at all, and Sanji's was too abrupt.

Not sure about this one, but was Luffy's Gear Third arms smaller than usual? I keep coming back to the impression of when he first used it against Rob Lucci, and his arm was massive. In this episode they seemed a lot smaller as they were only a bit larger than Hordy.

Favorite part was definitely elated monster Chopper. That voice .

Wong Fu Productions (a Youtube group) created a vlog of them dubbing their voices over nameless citizens in the Water 7 Arc. Plus some behind the scenes of how Funimation dub the show!

By the way Luffy with that black cape taking Shanks spot in that opening is full of epicness.

! I'm expecting Luffy to struggle against Hordy Jones. If Hordy was able to do that much against Zoro, I'd expect no less even though the manga showed he barely hurt any of the Straw Hats. I'm not complaining since I can't wait to watch the fights.

I always question how Oda could kill off a pretty significant character in Kuina from just a set of stairs. In my opinion, her father always had that evil look to him. I think there is more to her death/disappearance than what was originally said.

Few people understand that Oda has never drawn Luffy with pink skin during gear second. It is an animation only effect. Volume's 40 and 44 have covers drawn and colored by Oda that showcase Luffy in G2 with only smoke. I concede that Oda never drew the trademark pumping of blood during the PX-5 encounter or vs Hammond and Hyozou.

Interesting, thanks for pointing that out. I guess Toei haven't been making a mistake turning his whole body pink. It would look weird in the anime if only one part of his body turned pink anyways.

P.S. Is Arlong's voice actor different from the Arlong Park arc? I didn't find that it suited him.

Since Luffy, Zoro, Ussopp and Robin get to explore Punk Hazard, I'd like to see the rest of the crew somehow get shipped off to Rajin Island or the other two islands. There will be some amazing samurai that fights Zoro on Punk Hazard while Luffy fights another villain on Rajin Island

The anime episode discussion is so rubbish compared to the manga chapter discussions. Most of what I see is talking about how off it looks and not the story. This also goes for the previous episode threads.

Anyways I thought this episode was much better than the previous episode with the long awkward pauses. Shirahoshi's voice actor is perfect for her; she isn't as annoying than in the manga. The Nami, Ussopp and Brooke scene was pretty badass. Plus Luffy's feasting scene was hilarious. Very good episode.

One thing that bugged me throughout the whole arc was what was the point of Shyarly being Arlong's sister? It didn't add anything to her character and that piece of information was cast aside.

Good observation on Luffy not destroying Fishman Island, but possibly someone else with a straw hat.

I don't see why people are raving about Robin's new outfit, its just a dark dress. Her other one was more creative and vibrant.

I thought it was an alright arc. After the likes of Sabaody Archipelago, Impel Down and Marineford in a row, it would be difficult to top that. I personally enjoyed it better than Thriller Bark.
