The pacing for the first two thirds had me cringing whilst watching. But the excitement of that last third is that of the One Piece I know and love, which just goes to say that if Toei can condense such intensity in three minutes with not that much content to work with, they still got it. The declining pacing of the series is quite not gradually ruining my anticipation for this series every week, and that is a tragedy in itself. :(

RE: 563: ''The Shocking Truth! Hody's True Self!''
A few more episodes to get through. Can't wait for some decent animation.
Feels bad going from watching the new Hunter x Hunter episode with the gorgeous Uvo fight and then switching to One Piece to watch clunky scenes from the past few weeks.
Hoping for something better once the fights begin for real.
I've been thinking the same thing from even before this episode. Been looking forward to Hunter x Hunter more than One Piece every week for a while now. And while Hunter x Hunter is amazing, it feels wrong since One Piece is the favorite…

RE: 559: ''Hurry Luffy! Shirahoshi's Dire Situation''
People, moderators included, wanted Fishman Island to take at least 2 years (100+ chapters) and be One Piece's best arc. But we're about to get One Piece's best arc with either Punk Hazard or whatever's coming up with Big Mam so it doesn't really matter, water under the bridge for me.
So true. And what a great part of One Piece fandom history. It makes me nostalgic, really.

RE: 553: ''Shirahoshi's Tears! Luffy Finally Appears''
Obligatory epic for the Shirahoshi scream leading to the Luffy kick scene. (GIFset I made for it http://l3reezer.tumblr.com/post/25807045518/one-piece-553-shirahoshi-no) I thought this episode has been the best in a decent while, finally giving me the hopes I had for this arc when they first arrived. Those hopes kind of diminished… until this point, that is. And now I'm ready for some great ol' shonen action. Comparing this episode to the chapter, I liked it better overall. A few exceptions go to Luffy's face in the manga after the kick looks better, Nami is drawn much better in the manga, and the group shot at the end in the anime was less dominant. It was drawn slightly below expectations and I expected it to stay on the group shot even when Luffy said the words "You decide for yourselves!"
Assuming Hody's voice is the same as Kotomine Kirei from Fate/zero, I wonder how the seiyuu feels about getting his ass handed to him two weeks in a row in different series with different characters.

RE: 543: ''A Hero's End - Tiger's Shocking Truth''
Great episode. The amount of emotions I have accumulated for Fisher Tiger in just these past two or three episodes is amazing. The animation was good, mostly because of its consistency. There were a couple of shots where I thought Jinbe looked really awesome. When Fisher Tiger denies the blood in that exclamation of his, I think he looks better in the anime than he does in the manga. It seemed to show more emotion in his expression. Utterly melancholic. Koala is so adorable. I too hope she makes a re-appearance in the series. Completely deserves to be a Straw Hat even.
I think this episode is an example of how creative Toei could be with filler material. Would've been awesome to show a nice-ass brawl between Tiger and the marines. I was really expecting a fight to follow when Jinbe arrived at the scene and that explosion happened upon impact of Jinbe's fist to Strawberry's defense. I wish even Oda would actually portray those fights. So much potential! -
RE: 538: ''The Crew's Defeat?! Hody Controls Ryuuguu Palace''
That Luffy x Franky awkward silence was hilarious. I wouldn't have even minded them stretching that pause twice as long if it saved them from the pacing issue even a little bit. Completely agree with the Arlong flashbacks being a good watch just to see the reanimation, but with the animation quality as of late, the anticipation kind of dies. Thought the Nami reaction to Jinbe was somewhat melodramatic. The fast motion focuses on his tattoo and stuff made it seem like Nami is completely traumatized from it, but I would figure she has come to terms with it, especially after acknowledging Hatchi on Sabaody.

RE: 537: ''Protect Shirahoshi - Decken's Pursuit''
Sanji's scene was hilarious. Did not feel extended that much. I felt sorry for Chopper even and his desperate attempts to stop Sanji. Thought the rope was pretty funny, they could've portrayed it as comedic irony better if you ask me. It would've been just as funny as the audience suspecting Luffy of kidnapping Shirahoshi and then Shirahoshi actually appearing out of Megalo. I think Luffy is initiating Gear Second too much as well. For something that is suppose to affect his life span, he seems to use it without even gauging his opponent's strength properly. The Zoro vs. Hody scene was pretty irksome. I would have preferred Zoro dominating some of Hody's minions as a means to extend time on the episode.

RE: 507: ''Reunion with the Dark King Rayleigh! The Time for Luffy's Decision Has Come''
Didn't especially like the art style in this episode until the latter part with Usopp and Heracles, which was great. I'd have to say the best elements were those little touches such as Usopp's fire-star(s) falling into the pit of the mouth and exploding in the background, the shimmering light effects, and the perspective of Usopp's tears falling towards the screen almost. That was spectacular.
I still haven't adjusted to Bepo's seiyuu; it just doesn't fit well with me still.
Was delighted to see Shakky and Kuma again, but I'm definitely mourning the fate of Kuma now(?) Does anyone know where Jean Bart is at this time? Or was… Just chillin' in the submarine(?)
@whoever that was
Usopp was crying for Luffy because he felt helpless as a nakama. I myself was kind of questioning when Usopp would stop feasting on the delicacies of the island and actually start training or doing something progressive (like the others are), and this episode initiated that by showing him the utter need to do so in order to reunite with his friends and console his captain. It reminded me of their fight at Water 7 for some reason and how much of a pair of Bro(s) they are.
Actually made a graphic of it if anyone's interestedhttp://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lojmcizW1r1qzk4cro1_r1_500.gif

RE: 506: ''The Straw Hat Crew's Shock! The Bad News is Received''
One of the few who like Robin's appearance, not to say that it's superior. I love the way Nami looked in this episode as well. But that art style for Robin just doesn't faze me at all, I like it.
On all other notes, the episode was a great refresher. I was just happy to see the crew again, and in that manner, the episode successfully breezed by without seeming slow-paced. -
RE: 503: ''I'm Counting on You! A Letter from a Brother!''
Oh come on. The next episode is going to be a flashback as well? For fuck's sake there are entire animes that are shorter then this freaking flashback. If they are so desperate for a filler they could have at least given us some cool new storyline instead of stretching the Luffy ,Sabo and Ace storyline into infinity. Thank god at least the manga is here
Well that's funny, at what point did One Piece need to change its standards to be like other anime series? The length of this arc is completely reasonable. Other than the Naguri encounter, there have only been minor elongations, spanning about 2 episodes extra worth, or .05 Gomu Gomu(s).
Regarding the episode:
I'm surprised so many people were and are bothered with Ace's cry. As someone said, it expressed his raw feelings and how sad he really was, it was his first time crying as far as we know so it's justified to be completely full of anguish. Personally approve of it. It was contagious actually.Personally believe Sabo is alive. Love the arc as it's going. Can't wait for next episode. Can't wait for Strawhats' episodes. Can't wait for reunion. Aww yeahh

RE: Does One Piece inspire you in real life?
You know when you see a girl, and let's say for instance her body size or hair or eyes are not what is stereotypically seen as cute. Well I kind of more accepting because I kind of see everyone like a one piece character. Actually I'm more than accepting I'm starting to really enjoy everyone's weird and cool and crazy points. You know like every body has good or bad points. I used get upset that my brother couldn't let himself lose an argument. But I see this annoying point of his like a real life One piece exaggeration–for example like CP9 Califa saying everything is sexual harrassement. In real life having a friend like that can get annoying but Spandam and everyone in One Piece kind of deal with these people is such a lighthearted way--I've tried it out you dealing with people in this lighthearted manner and I like dealing with people like this!! Like a girl with a beautiful face might have a too long nose, but that is really cool because well…the have a too long nose-hahahahahahah. I kind a of love it--it is a long nose but I can find things I love about long noses.
Oh and a message to the people who find it incredible that a person could be inspired by One Piece try seeing through my eyes, to me I can get inspired by One Piece because there is a human being who has gone through things, experienced things and is writing then into a fantasy story. Some of what I talk about above may be things Oda has discovered about real life and in turn put into One Piece-- so it is natural for me to get influenced
Surprisingly, I actually get what you are saying, haha

RE: 501: ''The Flames are Lit - The Grey Terminal's Crisis''
Unless you're talking about his actual, physical death, don't mind that. Would want people to react accordingly for longer than 10 minutes.

RE: Idle speculation thread- What Do You Want One Piece Movie 11 To Be About?
I would like to see a really epic Davy Back Fight like movie, but not with Foxy.
Totally just imagined a Davy Back Fight amongst the Kid, Heart, and Strawhat Pirates. What a nice thought, actually. (I can't think of any imitation for that though, unless some idiotic captain who doesn't know what he's up against challenges all three of those crews to one. Enter, Foxy.)
But let's see…
I wouldn't mind a Marineford remake just to do the arc better justice than it had in the anime and also because it has a lot of flexibility action-choreography wise. I don't think adding creative license to those fights would necessarily irk anybody either as long as it remained in an acceptable boundary. (I really did fancy Marco vs. Kizaru even though it was so short and segmented.)A filler film about another villain with a devil fruit power (or hell, if you can pull off a non-devil fruit user, why not?) is welcome as long as its well orchestrated. Don't try to pull some crap such as correlations to past villains or characters' pasts. Just have something in the same vein as Baron Omatsuri, but better with nice production value.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
According to the two year countdown, we should be necessarily close to #11. but with the lack of promotion, I don't think they'll be following the routine 2 year cycle as strictly as everyone (myself included) hopes

RE: 501: ''The Flames are Lit - The Grey Terminal's Crisis''
Wow people thought Aces death was worse in the anime? I thought it was brilliant and incredibly well done. A highlight of the animated marineford. I guess thats just me
The presentation by Toei just didn't seem to meet expectations. It was the highlight of the Marineford Arc (debatable because of Whitebeard's sequential death), sure, because that was the intention of the context by Oda. But something about it being one of less than ten deaths in One Piece, a death of one of the definitely more important characters too. Compare it to Merry's funeral and it just can't even begin to equate presentation-wise. But then I guess for those who see no reason to compare the two, then yeah, but I think Merry's episode was a exclamation of what they were capable of doing at One Piece's finest moments.

RE: Should they bring back the ending songs? Cut down that 7 minute intro?
I've always been concerned as to why One Piece, or rather, Toei, has to take such measures as eliminating the licensing and other costs for the EDs by disposing of them entirely. The shock value is tremendous considering how amazingly popular and profitable One Piece is, to much justice.
Personally, I would prefer the endings back, wholeheartedly. The 2:30 opening is nice, but the idea of two different songs and video sequences seems more favorable. Probably contrary to entire belief, there is art direction and significant thought that goes into the openings and endings. Call me pathetic, but I'm completely vulnerable to the emotions that openings and endings can evoke, especially with our most recent one, "Fight Together." If I can have something at the end of the episode that can remind me why I'm watching One Piece after a distasteful filler episode or reassure my love for One Piece after an epic episode, then I'm all for it. My second time through the series, I loved hearing "Memories" play at the end of those early episodes.
As for the lamp action motif reminder in the beginning of each episode, I think it can be handled in a similar fashion. For something they make once to include in every episode, it could be more visually stimulating. A sequence of flashback fights or something like that would be more entertaining than the Straw Hats standing on a giant map whilst our narrator talks for a minute if you ask me.

RE: 501: ''The Flames are Lit - The Grey Terminal's Crisis''
I actually wouldn't mind a 2:30 opening and a 1:00 ending even if it took away from episode content. They're just that standard of compliments that really add to the enjoyment of weekly episodes.
I'm going to agree with the direction change since Water 7 because I just downright idolize that arc and its presentation. Your mindset about the time-skip is the same one I had hoped for Marineford. Even the whole insert song for Merry…I wished that would've happened for Ace too. As someone said earlier, his death was really underwhelming in the anime compared to expectations. -
RE: 501: ''The Flames are Lit - The Grey Terminal's Crisis''
Spend however long redoing the Marineford Arc instead of fillers and instead of doing the same thing in the form of a film. Then get back on track with consistent pacing AND an ED at the end of every episode again. And hey, why not throw our next 1 hour special soon? It's been a while~
Pertaining to this week's episode, oh man, I was steaming mad while watching those guards abuse Sabo. I was kind of laughing at Sabo tripping so damned much, but I sympathized with his state of mind. And I was wetting my pants when Dragon and Sabo shared that moment.

RE: Best OP opening song
1. Kokoro no Chizu
The song was really fitting for the upbeat-ness that the anime was in at the time. (Foxy arc and whatnot.) It really brought out the nakama feeling between the Mugiwaras and the next tier of epic that the anime was entering with the appearance of Aokiji and entrance into Water 7.
2. Brand New World
It was really catchy and awesome enough for the Enies Lobby arc.
