He probably thought that the mace was just a random piece of cloth that Diamante shaped like a mace and hardened with Haki.

We have seen Komatsu reacting to ingredients several times already.

And his speciality is simplifying cooking methods, so yeah, he's bound to find a way to cook God without relying on Gourmet Cells.

As much as I like both Robin and Usopp, I have the feeling that Cavendish will end up being the key to bring down the factory. I mean, the one Sugar made a contract with was Cavendish, so that leaves Hakuba free to wreack havoc once Cavendish falls asleep.

And I guess Usopp could resort to using the super spicy bullet to knock out Trebol. It's not like Robin couldn't just clutch Sugar afterwards.
