The new Thundercats' designs are fine. You don't have to like them. But they aren't bad.

RE: Talk LGBT Issues And Be Nice About It
….
You are correct insofar as the mind and body are not two entirely separate entities that just happen to be stuck together. However, a lot of your musings are coming from the perspective that "transgenderism" is a mental illness. This is untrue. Being trans (in any capacity) isn't an illness. An illness would be something you'd want to cure or suppress. You don't suppress being trans. Attempts to suppress one's trans…ness have historically been dangerous, malicious, and harmful. Gender dysphoria is an illness. A common alleviation for said gender dysphoria is transitioning. Tends to work.
On to another point, many trans people do go to therapy. In certain places said therapy is a requirement before undergoing hormone replacement. There is no catch all for what will work though. Some people transition. Some people don't. Individualism and all that jazz. It also goes back to my earlier mention of that dangerous, malicious, and harmful suppression. There's not quite understanding the trans community and then there's telling people what they can and can't do with their bodies. I am vehemently opposed to the latter.
Side note, your use of strictly male pronouns and phrases such as "swap genders" is a touch disconcerting.
And we do agree on Shapiro being a bully who thinks you win arguments by shouting over whomever you're talking with until they get fed up and leave.

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
Guys, Carrot HAS to join. She has giant titties. And is rabbit. She has to. I say so.

RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
So long as all eleven pages are about that mushroom girl, I'll be happy.

RE: The New Nintendo Thread™
The only correct naming convention would be if we went back to using Princess Toadstool but kept Bowser over King Koopa. Crossing the streams, maybe. But Princess Bowser-stool will reign supreme.

RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
None of the Strawhat crew has unique designs.
This is really what we're going with?
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
You guys are putting too much weight and relevance on what is actually presented in the story. You just have to go on blind faith that the author will at some point make Carrot relevant and interesting.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
The fact that Carrot has no purpose in the story is being used as a reason why she has to join the crew? Really?
That's precisely why she isn't joining the crew. That's precisely why I dislike her. There is absolutely zero merit to her inclusion in this story. She's a background character that, for some inconceivable reason, has lasted for as long as she has. There is absolutely nothing that she has done thus far that couldn't have been easily done by another character. You had Pedro and Pekoms to show off the Minks' Mega-Evolution and Chopper could have handled Brulee solo. She has no impact for me. If she's Oda's final Strawhat (and let's be clear here, she isn't), this is the worst job he's EVER done setting up an interesting, compelling, and believable main character.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Or are you saying that Carrot is clearly being set up as the next crewmate, and the story is so wild that her not joining would be a curveball?
Nobody has ever said that.

Do they get a tax write-off if their company tanks and they have to claim bankruptcy or something? Seriously, they're TRYING to destroy themselves.

RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Can anybody explain to me what constitutes a woman being called "butch" in a way that isn't completely sexist?
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Remember girls, if you don't like ponies and housework you're a tomboy or butch!
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
But she can be the lookout, Count! She stood in a crow's nest! It's perfect!

RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Now, a Vivi is the final Strawhat theory is something I can totally get behind.

Hahahaha, this is all an elaborate practical joke. Good job, guys. You got me.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Hahahahahahahaha
Everyone that supports Carrot for Strawhat theories is a wonderful person and do great work and everyone who doesn't is awful and wrong and should feel bad. The Anti-Carrot establishment is trying to keep to Pro-Carrot movement down, man.
Hahahahaha, I love what this thread has devolved into.

RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
@.access:
Written junk
But both Brook and Chopper were called a musician and a doctor, respectively. Carrot has never been called anything close to lookout. Nor have we seen another clearly labeled lookout designated in the entire series. It's entirely conjecture.
Never mind that Brook and Chopper had other things going for them other than their role on a ship. Like fun personalities and interesting designs. Strong convictions and narrative prominence. Carrot jumps around in the background sometimes and can Mega-Evolve.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
It's more of an exceptional display of their position than Usopp, Chopper, Brook, and Jimbei had before they joined. And she easily jumped higher than we've seen anyone in the series jump.
Eh, if you say so, dude. I'm not sure how you can measure the height in which every character in this story has jumped but sure. Also, Usopp, Chopper, Brook, and Jinbe didn't have ANYTHING as exceptional as Carrot jumping? What are you smoking and I'll take two of them.
Why does someone need to call her that? The lookout is the person who sits in the crow's nest and tells the others what they see. It's not that I want or don't want to call her anything, its just that it's what she is. "Lookout" is the word in the english language that describes the job that she naturally seems to do on a ship.
Nobody in the story uttered the word "helmsman" in Jimbei's direction until after he joined.
But somebody uttered it! I will happily let this point slide when somebody says "Gee, Carrot, you're a really good lookout!" But until then it's only speculation as to what her hypothetical role on a ship could be.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
How many times am I going to have to post this?
You can quit posting it anytime now.
Jumping high is not a good enough reason for her to be a Strawhat. Multiple people can jump high. Sanji can FLY. You want to call her a lookout? Fine. But until somebody in the story calls her a lookout, let it go.

RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
That doesn't answer my question at all. If Oda ever does a non-ambiguous death again, I don't why one would assume that it's happening on a whim, as opposed to believing he'd have his reasons for doing so.
I assume that it's happening on a whim in regards to how people believe deaths will occur willy-nilly because we're fighting big, strong guys. I don't believe that there will NEVER be an onscreen death again. I believe that it won't be because an enemy is bloodthirsty. Seems rather shallow to me.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Unlike some I believe in Oda's potential to do something like that, but to each their own. Some of you guys sound so bitter having believed he would kill someone in the past and time and time again they come out of it unscathed. Must suck to have to live with that disappointment and come to terms with it over time. Hopelessness is a sad burden to carry around.
It's not hopelessness, sassypants. It's understanding the habits of a writer that I've followed since I was a kid and noticing no sign of him breaking those habits anytime soon.
Why would it be on a whim?
Because it hasn't happened before in any capacity aside from the VERY big, game-changing deaths of Whitebeard and Ace.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
When have we ever entered Yonkou territory until now? Oh wait, never.
What does that matter? You could have easily used that argument in Alabasta when they hadn't fought a Warlord yet. Nobody with a name is dying unless Oda decided to suddenly switch up his writing after twenty years on a whim.
I'm not saying that a special case will never happen again. But it seems rather odd to suddenly have special cases popping up now for no other reason than "bloodthirsty enemies". There have been countless bloodthirsty enemies. Still no deaths.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
When has Oda EVER killed a named character in the present story line? Aside from the special cases of Ace and Whitebeard because I know one of you will bring that up. Pedro is not dead. Jinbe is not going to die. Cat and Dog are not going to die. Nobody dies in One Piece.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
@Cyan:
It's the eve of Chapter 900 and people still refuse to accept that Oda has a certain way of doing things even when it's staring them right in the goddamn face.
Careful, they don't take kindly to snark here.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Thanks for the advice you guys, I've taken it to heart. Truly, I have.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Glad we're focusing on my snark and not the things I've said that no one commented on because they want their rabbit girl to be a main character so badly that they'll ignore valid points and keep reiterating the same "she's a lookout" or "her personality will come later" arguments.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Oh shit! Here comes Below Average again with his bulletproof arguments. Surely our side of the debate is done for!
First off, I'm a woman. Second, I've made plenty of points that you've chosen to ignore. Your sexy bunny is not joining the crew. Sorry.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Oh. My. God. Pedro is not dead. Quit using that as justification for Carrot.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Carrot's "flashback" is happening in real time. Her mentor sacrificed himself in order to give them a chance to escape, and just before doing that, he imparted a task onto her. A task that she still needs to understand, so we're not done with this yet.
The mentor that she's had extremely little interaction with? The mentor who's only other impact on her aside from this vague imparted "task" was giving her a pair of gloves? The mentor who is by no means dead because this is goddamn One Piece and nobody dies outside of a flashback? That mentor?
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
So until the actual moment a character declares that they're joining, they have no chance of joining? I'm pretty sure everyone on this site figured that Franky was joining before Luffy stopped hating his guts.
I was specifically referencing Jinbe as compared to Carrot as that is what you were doing. But, if you'd like, I can compare her to Franky. Franky had an incredibly memorable and flashy introduction, an insanely unique design and personality, and a powerful flashback and driving force behind his dream. Carrot has none of those. And, no, her remembering that Pedro gave her gloves once does not count as a powerful flashback. And before you cite Usopp's single page flashback as a reason to rationalize Carrot joining, that was early in the series when everything was rushed and on a much smaller scale. Every member that's joined since they entered the Grand Line has had a tragic and beautiful flashback explaining their personality, ambition, and purpose in the narrative. Nothing about Carrot even competes.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Until he has the reaction of declaring her loyalty to Luffy in a (several really) grand sweeping gesture and actual thought put into her portrayal, she's not joining.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
But Galaxy! She stood on the crow's nest! She has to be a Strawhat!
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
The argument isn't that she could be a lookout, the argument is that she IS a lookout. At this very moment, and ever since her first appearance, she's been a lookout. She is currently on top of the Sunny's mast with binoculars looking around for stuff. She has been for a while now.
Oh, my mistake. She's going to be a Strawhat for sure then.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
How about we change the status quo and introduce a character who is going to find her feet and purpose before our very eyes as the story progresses? This is the new world homie we can try different things and not follow established patterns from yesteryear. I mean some of these new arcs are certainly not following the good old formula. Good on you Oda, keep us guessing.
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? One Piece has been formulaic from the word go and has not stopped being formulaic. Oda's even been repeating himself a TON recently. This whole story has an established pattern and it isn't letting up because you want the sexy bunny to be a main character.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
People are saying that the lookout position is unnecessary and stating Usopp could arguably do a better job at it, but I went many pages back earlier in this thread when Jinbe was being discussed for the role of helmsman I distinctly remember seeing the likes of Count Mario and Robby arguing that the role, while fitting with Jinbe's fishman nature, is unnecessary due to Franky mainly handling it and there was "no need" to get one.
Funny how things work now…
Being a helmsman was not the driving force behind Jinbe joining. It was YEARS worth of buildup. And then when he finally joined he said he was a good a good helmsman and everyone said "alright"
A lot of the arguments for Carrot have been that she could totally be a lookout, guys.

RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Oh please, most people on here call Zoro dull and boring, yet he's the first mate!
Most people here thought Robin had nothing going for her and her personality quirks only came after she forced her way onto the ship and sailed with them.
Most people other than die hard Jinbei fans were saying his personality is as dead as a doormat so forget personality, that has no huge weight in this matter. Next point please. What about basic storytelling beats that have been present with EVERY Strawhat? A dream that isn't "seeing the world" or whatever vague thing Carrot wants. How about a point in the story? Carrot has been nothing but redundant.
The only points I've seen being made as to why Carrot should totally join the crew are far pettier than her being a dull character with nothing going for her.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Carrot's personality (what little of it there is) is absolutely horrible for being a Strawhat. Each of the crew that joined since entering the Grand Line has had knockout personalities and presence out of the gate. Carrot jumped good and used binoculars. Riveting.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Just being around doesn't make her a viable crew member. Neither does her holding binoculars. Nor Luffy saying her name every once in a while. Her presence in this arc is superfluous at best and her personality nonexistent. She has no weight to her. No pop. Nothing. She is not going to be a Strawhat.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
If you're going to pick an absurd, irrational character to be your Next Crew Member pick, at least make it a GOOD absurd, irrational character.

RE: Classic Cartoons
Weird adult moments in cartoons and no mention at all of Disney's Who Killed Cock Robin?
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
We're getting more and more instances of her in the lookout position, so that has given us more to talk about in regard to positions that need to be filled. Sulong being a thing also caused a whole bunch of discussion.
Until we get more instances of her having an actual interesting personality though….
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
What would you like people to say that hasn't already been said lol
I pose the exact same question to the arguments over whether or not Carrot is joining the Strawhats.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
We get a huge payoff in Jinbe finally joining the crew after years and years of build up. Huge double spread, assigned role, confirmation that this time he's staying. All around really cool moments. But everyone wants to focus on the sexy bunny. Come on, guys.
