What DN needs as an opening is something "tense", but not something garbage-y hard rock. It's not something that's "high-octane" than it is like mind stress, like taking a really hard test or a position in a court case.

are we reading the same manga?
The story never never felt fast paced and tense like a shounen manga to you?
-
nope not at all
at least not compared to the shounen that I read
-

It was certainly tense but not at all fast paced.
-
I liked the new op and ed. Did they fit the show? Nope, not at all. Did I care? Nope again. In my opinion, the show itself is so incredibly great to watch that the op and ed don't really matter that much. The first op and ed admittedly did fit the show better, but the new ones are fine. Actually, I thought the video for the opening was rather humorous. Meh~ My opinions.
On a different note, episode 21 was really good. I was not expecting Misa to be of any help to anyone, but she really surprised me. (I haven't read the manga for Death Note, so I don't know what will happen. By the way, is it any good?) I have earned a new respect for Misa, until she gets them all killed….

The manga is more or less than same as the anime. I'd say the manga is maybe slightly better.
-
The anime is unintentionally funnier than the manga

buncha whiners! You just want the same damn j-pop over and over again
No, it's just shit.
Things got pear-shaped when potato-chips started.

interesting. It's a trailer for the dub? I don't know because they don't have va's just epic writing of light killing people.

I think that's the sub trailers. Viz plans to put up subs for download first, and then start releasing bilingual DVDs in the fall.

Bumping this topic for a good reason.
Episode 25 was handled so well. It was amazing to it's manga counterpart.
HUGE SPOILERS
! I love how Watari's death was exciting music and then L's bgm got cut off and there was just slience. It was beautiful. That and then Light's scream afterwards. Man such a great scence.
Also since this is a 37 episode series and 25 was volume 7 that means a different ending?
-
It was one of the best episodes in a while; it took me by surprise.
Even if the scene wasn't in the manga, I noticed that L washing/drying Light's foot is from a biblical reference: when Mary washes Jesus' feet with expensive oil and cleaning his feet with her hair. It signified that Light was now a "God".
Either that or it was referencing to Jesus washing his disciples feet and dying a few hours later.I have to agree with Warp. It was quite an amazing scene…I had to re-watch it a few times.
-
Great episode and yeah, much better than most of the episodes.
! Now, I wonder how they will do Near's and Mello's voice, since Le Lawliet is dead. I have a good idea of how Mello's V.A. will be though.

Hey cool, I'm dead :D

Maybe Madhouse plans to shorten up the boring stuff in the second half and make it quicker and more exciting.
-
For the record, no official source has stated that the series will be 37 episodes, just places like Wikipedia and ANN.
Also, very sad episode. It makes me happy that Light gives swimming lessons. But then I get sad again when I remember Mello and Near are coming up.
Also:
This episode summarized. -
25 was by far the worst episode of the show so far.
! It was the first episode with any filler, and it was filled with it. Annoying Misa singing was barely tolerable. The L being emo and out of character in the rain was as well. But that Yaoi… WHY THE YAOI?!? And to top it all off, L and Rem's final thoughts, 2 of the best lines in the series, cut out for no reason at all. This was just plain the worst episode ever.
-
That's what I'm scared of.
I will miss L though. There was much more build up for me in the Anime though, since when reading the Manga my heart started beating faster I got pretty excited, so I was speed reading as slow as I could force my body to go. It wanted to read as fast as possible, and I was trying to take it in. So I still read faster than normal.
For anyone who DIDN'T read the Manga:
L being taken to Wammy House and the rain thing weren't in the original. Guess they wanted to make it a special episode, seeing as how the animation quality was good. The timing of the music could have been slightly better at L's death scene though. He also didn't quite show that "I knew it" look in his eyes. Also unshown was Rem writing down L's name, then Watari's, then jumping backwards through the wall in Watari's room to the area she died. The button press and the data deletion didn't happen until the last pages of the chapter.
Also, this isn't a picture it really is spoilers below:
! I have a friend that looks just like Mello. No kidding. And you know what? NOT A GUY, totally more than enough proof to conclude Mello looks super girlish.
-
Also since this is a 37 episode series and 25 was volume 7 that means a different ending?
Not really spoilers just dont wont to give anything away for those who havent read the manga
! Hope so didnt like the ending in the manga not the ending itself just how it happens turns out light is kinda dumb
-
I think more people don't understand the ending than people who genuinely hate it.
-
The death of L, in the anime, was slightly disappointing. It lacked emotion, on L's part; as GearSecond said, he didn't have that look in his eyes.
Episode 25 was pretty homo erotic, =/.
-
I kept waiting for L's "So I was right afterall." but it never came. ;_; Still, it was a nice ep.
-
In the recap for the next episode I think they'll show L's final words and look in his eyes.
I hope so anyway. Either way it still was an awesome episode (I skipped right to the part where "that happened" so I didn't really watch the yaoi scene. What was it? The footwashing thing? That wasn't yaoi pssh
-
The button press and the data deletion didn't happen until the last pages of the chapter.
That happened in the chapter before L's death.
I really liked 25. This "yaoi" everyone mentions was a biblical reference that Madhouse added in, and I thought it was well done. I thought this episode helped to show how L felt betrayed by the only friend he ever had. Yes, it's dissapointing that Rem and L's last lines weren't said, but I think they got the point across that L knew that Light was Kira.
-
Some parts of the episode were well done, but to get to it you had to wade through such pretentious crap that it was hardly worth it. The stupid vocal music gave off a hokey trying-too-hard feel, the foot washing scene was an incredibly dumb biblical insert, and as always, the super hardkore camera angles were laughably pathetic. I don't know what's sadder, the fact that this series tries so hard to be cool and falls flat on its face or the fact that there are people who'll eat it up…
I kind of liked Misa's little song, though. It was oddly fitting, although it shouldn't have lasted so long.
-
Still looked like it was going to become Yaoi and those fan pairing people will have a fun time with it.
I realized later that the only difference was 2 things:
1: L looked almost content, but a bit sad. When he saw Kira's smile in the Manga, he looked like he just saw a demon eat his out. And he didn't think to himself the "Iw as right afterall" line. Which while the silence was nice, the content look lacking emotion, and the missing line, made it end differently.
2: They didn't take him to the hospital. They went directly to Rem's ashes(made of sand) and that was it.
Like Warp, I'm hoping they'll be in the next recap.
I also noticed the preview for the next episode(can't believe I have to wait until April 10th for the raw, a couple more for translations) didn't give any hints as to the second and final story arc.
! my friends are going to freak out when they see Mello, one of them looks like his twin her hair is it's natural color
-
-
^LOL That's an awesome Yotsuba&! parody!

Well, Madhouse's main problem with doing the adaption to the manga was that they try too hard. They take suttle scenes and make them overly-dramatic, to the point where is can be laughable. But when a scene is suppose to be dramtic, I think they do a good job. I think that applies to this episode. Most of this episode was added in by Madhouse, and I thought it actually added to the mood. The whole episode was like a tribute to L. Maybe Madhouse overdid it a little, but I felt that it worked.

Kinda changing the topic here, but it's still death note. This image is one of the funniest things I have seen.

ha ha, that is great!
anywhoo, I just started watching the death note anime this week. (not having read any manga) I would now like to thank all of you who decided to post in the ANIME thread and spoil the ending, and L's real name. Thank you.
I would now like to add my thoughts to the new opening. I am not a fan of that style of music, though, I do think it suits DN. The animation scenes are truley a site to be seen. I love the Ryuk apple chaseing. The opening is like an intense acid trip, which is a good way to describe this anime. (intence and just crazy/out of this world)

Death note sorta-spoiler warning

Hey, if you don't wanna be spoiled on a series that's already ended, it's best to just ignore all internet convos about it. :I Things pop up and there isn't much you can do about it.
-
the anime hasn't ended yet. >_>
-
The manga has. :x If you really didn't want to be spoilered (about Death Note no less), it would have been best to shun all conversation.
Even then it's no guarantee~ The manga's great though, you should probably read ahead.
-
Not really related to the anime, (but neither were the hilarious pictures, really)… but! Death Note cookies!! yummy!
http://animeonline.com/index.php?page=news_details&action=details&id=100456I loved the Yotsuba& parody! Mind if I put it in my signature?

well true, I should just shun all conversation, but I wanna have fun and talk too. It's just the fact that it specificly says ANIME in the thread title, so I snuck in here, thinking it would be safe. :P I don't understand why I'm getting flack all of a sudden though, when others have already menchioned in this thread to spoiler tag stuff. :)
(maybe my comment came off harsher than I meant it)
and silly Taboo. :P you should know by now, I don't read online scanlations. :3 patient enough to wait for anime ^_^

You say that with such pride, it's disturbing.
-
"YESHHH" :3
(ok, enough off topic for me) -
I actually meant disturbing in a "really narrow-minded and annoying" sort of way…
But anyway, have we seen Near and Mello's introductions yet? Do we even know their voice actors by now?
-
(i know what you meant, I was tryingto be light hearted. I'm not being narrow minded though. just personal preference. if I had it infront of me in book format, I probably would read it, but I don't like reading comic pages online. that and I just perfer shows over books. I've always been like that. I could say, others are narrow minded, for not accepting my view too) :)
anyways, not having read the manga, I'm guessing those 2 charicters are coming soon.
! They are the people who were "studying under L" or something like that? Unless, the story has a new angle to follow, they need someone to step up and take L's place now. It just makes sence to the story. I bet within the next episode or 3. So, ya, they better have voice actors already.
-
Bump
Watched ep. 27 last night. The voices seemed to work well to me. That blonde guy seems as creepy as Light to me. So far, anyways. Not too sure how if I'm gonna like these new charicters or not yet, in the story. Are they putting cool charicters in for cool charicters sake, or are they going to aid the story? I think I felt the same way about Misa when she first came into the story. She seems to work with the plot now.

Where did u get that?
Ah crap so now they're starting the boring part of the the series?!?!
There goes the anime's TV ratings down the drain…
@Warp-
Can I use that pic in another forum plz? -
this deserves some kind of medal

Taboo, did I ever tell you I enjoy your twisted sence of humor. :P Those were nuts, as well as a bit creepy. Well, light laughing like a chipmunk was creepy.
-
^I've seen those before… XD
I had to keep replaying the chipmunk one.I think there's also one where it's a slowed down clip of L saying
! "I am L." to Light.
.
That gave me the chills. Yet I cracked up laughing.
Edit:Well, what do you guys think of Mello and Near's voice?
Personally, I think I have to get used to Mello's.
As for the latter…well, his voice almost sounds right. Possibly a little too feminine? -
isn't he suposed to be really young though, so a little less male like voice would work, would it not?
-
double post :)
