BEER PONG FTW!!! Sorry, I just had flashbacks from college…

Full schedule is out: http://anime-expo.org/?q=programming/schedule/

Okay, okay, okay, do we know who's holding the sign, if at all? Just to let everyone know, I'll be at Anime Expo for at least July 1st, because that's when the Toei "One Piece" and FUNimation panels are. My friends and I want to go for two days this year but we have to get things sorted out first. And you'll be able to tell it's me because my badge will say "firecrouch" and because of my story of how I got the nickname, if anyone knows the story, I know at least CosmicDebris does. If you see someone with these physical characteristics and they're in denial, don't give into their lies, it will most certainly be me. But if there's coincidentally (or not) more than one firecrouch, then we may have an identity crisis on hand.
-
Btw, nicks on the badge is sooo tiny that I don't think you can randomly spot people.
I guess it'll be Cosmic holding up either my avatar or APForums sign.
-
I'll hold the sign
-
Whee sign~.
So, seeing as how the panel with Toei starts at ten…do we want to meet somewhere nearby the room at an earlier time? Not like, eight in the morning, but certainly no later than nine.
That way we aren't in a jumbled rush to get organized and such XD. -
Yeah, you should. And probably there will be a line to get into the panel, too.
-
So it starts at 10 and we're meeting at 8? Thanks. I needed the information on the time. My driver needs that information.
-
Okay, I need Sunday off, from 8am to 11am… guess I won't be getting shitfaced.
-
I might be in-line to get my badge at Anime Expo at eight in the morning by the day the "One Piece" panel is, so I'll see what I can do.
Wow, it's gonna be interesting to meet some of the people I've met on these forums in person. To think how I started out on Arlong Park and where I am now. Good times, good times.
-
Okay then, eight it is. But beware, Janken Jack and I aren't morning people. If I am at all grumpy/bitchy in any way shape or form, I apologize in adavance.
But my friend who I'm staying with happens to be a decent morning person. Seeing as how he's on 6th Street (yeah, I know bad part of LB), we'll probably be one of the first ones there. He's not a huge OP fan, but I'm like a little sister to him so he'll go XD.
Oh and firecrouch, you can get your badge a day early if you register online. Just a helpful bit of info to make your day easy ^_^.
-
So how and when do we get our badges, provided we have registered online?
-
Okay, if you've registered online you should have your badges mailed to you a few days before Expo. Then if you have your pass before Expo begins, on Day 0 (June 28th) you can go and get your badge holder if you go to the pre-registration line. Make sure you bring a Photo ID, the badge, and the e-mail confirmation.
-
Yeah, every year I've went registered online but I still had to wait in line once I got to the convention center to pick up my badge.
By the way, it looks like I might be going for all four days after all. Anyone know of any cheap vacant motels that are close by where Anime Expo will be?
-
I don't (I'm just going to commute), but I'd look into it soon if I were you, I imagine they'll be booking up fast if not already.

My friend and I were actually talking about going down to Long Beach soon this week to go scouting. Wish us luck.
-
Well, another thing I can point out for you to use in your scouting mission is hotels.com.
It was pretty useful to me, as I thought of getting a room for just myself (I really need time away from my family) but my friend's mother told me to come stay with her XP. At the site, you can sort rooms by price or distance from lnadmarks (i.e. the Convention Center). I saw some rooms running for as low as 80 bucks a night. Hope you aren't picky though.
-
If you are still looking for a place to stay/share, this thread might be useful to you: http://forums.anime-expo.org/index.php?showtopic=77
For badge/holder pick up, if you live close to Long Beach, I highly recommend you to pick them up on day 0. I waited 3~4 hours last year on day 1. Whilest the registration guy is really confident to make the line shorter this year (max. 1 hour), … better be safe than sorry :P I'll go pick up mine around 2pm or so on day 0 (28th), I think, unless the staff badge pickup is somewhere else.
Btw, off topic, but Cosmic, do you still have Disney pass? SHL's going to Disneyland sometime this month, if you want to meet him :P I'm gonna meet him when he's up here, along with ooshi.
-
So let's see here. The list of people who are meeting up and attending the Funimation and One Piece panels are:
Bee's Wings
CosmicDebris
Fire Croutch
mr_bushido
oceanizer
Pass the Rootbeer
Toshiya -
I'll be sure to write down a list of questions to ask for both panels.
-
July 1st is shaping up to be a good day for me, despite the fact that I have to wake up uber early XD.
I know that we're getting together for those two panels, but how about we have a separate meeting on another day prior to the panels, so we know what we all look like? I'm just trying to make everything run as smoothly as possible. That way, there's less to worry about and more fun to be had. And fun ish good.
-
Well, I'll be the guy in the Brooke outfit (hopefully) doing an annoying job of trying to get into character. Ocean should be the talking penguin. I think Cosmic will the girl that's always beside him, or she'll be the girl humping every Usopp cosplayer. And mr_bushido should be the drunkard in green hair.
Just look for the happy bunch of weirdos.
-
I know where to find Bushido, at least XD. Maybe we could all meet up at the Ikkicon booth one day, like maybe June 30th?
If not, I'm probably going to be found at either The Host Club Tea Party on the first day (June 29th) or the Hellsing: Ultimate Panel on the second day (June 30th). Other than that, I'll be meandering in Artist's Alley or the Exhibition Hall looking for deals on stuff to buy. I'm hoping I'll be able to track down the one doujinshi booth I see there year after year. It's just this year that I plan on buying things.
If I remember correctly, the guy who sold tons of doujins at AX was also the guy who used to sell those infamous paddles, correct? Or am I mistaken?
-
I want a yuri paddle so badly.
-
They aren't allowed to be sold at the conventions because to many people were reporting cases of being harrassed by those with the paddles. I myself had to vehemently defend my less than watchful friends from being smacked in the rear without their permission by boys with Yuri paddles. Most people would probably allow you a pat if you asked nicely. But there were far too many "hit and runs" that left people peeved, therefore the people who run the con discontinued the ability for the paddles to be sold. They can still be brought to the convetions (don't ask why o_O), but they are no longer able to be bought.
At least, that's what I heard when I was trying to buy my own Yaoi paddle last year and found none for sale.
-
Well I'll probably be just plain-looking if anyone wants to seek me out. Just some skinny white guy with red hair and a badge that says "firecrouch". I'll be sure to check out some motels onight, but nothing's finalized. When Anime Expo ends should someone start a new thread in the Anime section about "One Piece at Anime Expo", kind of like how there was the Anime Boston panel? Should I start asking people what kind of questions they would like to have answered at the panels?
Speaking of paddles, I've got a funny AX story that I think happened in 2004. They were selling yaoi paddles for about 30 bucks a pop at this one big booth and every time my best friend saw someone walking around with one he would yell a big friendly,"YAOI!!" at them. They either smiled or yelled back, and eventually two of my other friends joined in, but not me. Later we got outside and we saw a group of 12-13 year-old girls walking around with yaoi paddles, so naturally my friend started shouting, "YAOI!!", they shouted back, my other friends started to join in. I yelled, "Shut the hell up!" at them.
What ensued was one of the funniest moments I'll remember from all my years at Anime Expo, and probably future ones. The girls ran up to me, grabbed me, the fat one jumped on my back while I ran around struggling and screaming as another beat my ass with a yaoi paddle. I couldn't see so I imagine more than one girl was beating me with the yaoi paddles. My friends just stood there and laughed, I wouldn't be surprised if my friend who started the whole thing started helping the girls beat me.
-
Wow, once the group assembles at the panel we'll have three red-heads lol!
Two of my friends who are coming to the panel are also red-headed. You wouldn't happen to be an Aquarius would you, firecrouch?
-

I'm a Scorpio. Well, the red-headedness may come out differently depending on the light source. Why do you ask?
-
Oh it's just that thew few red-heads I know are ALL Aquarians o_o. It's scary!

Who said that it's not sold any more? At least I know they still sold it in last year's AX.
-
Where were the booths that sold them anyway? I could never find them.
-
Yeah, they sold them last year. There was a huge booth right in the middle of the hall that sold them.
-
gah I remember those paddles @_@ fun times last years X3
-
gah I remember those paddles @_@ fun times last years X3
Yeah, especially when you're on the receiving end :getlost: .
-
I had good times with the paddles haha the Yuri one <3 cant wait for this years.
-
I wonder if the Yuri paddle feels any different from the Yaoi paddle :getlost: .
-
Hmm o_O. Odd. I don't remember seeing them being sold last year, but I remember people bringing them. Oh well. Maybe it was another convention I was thinking of and I got confused. Mea culpa XD.
Oh and firecrouch the Yaoi and Yuri paddles are the same, really.
-

Damnit! Those bastards!
-
Um, does anything think they could pick me up and drop me off at th con on Saturday? My driver just called out.
-
Where do you live Rootbeer? I might be able to, it all depends on where you are :p.
-
Do you know where Glendale High School is?
-
Seriously? o_o. I live in Downey dude! I know where Glendale is.
However, it's a thirty minute drive from where I'm staying in Long Beach. I don't think my friend would find that uber convinient, especially considering how on Saturday we have to get up early as is, because we both take to long in the damn shower and the Toei ppanel starts at ten.

But the toei panel is on Sunday. I need a pick on Saturday.
-
Pass the Rootbeer, i don't think I can help you, but if I can I will. We need you to be there. Is there any way you can use other modes of transportation like a bus or a train?
-
@Pass:
But the toei panel is on Sunday. I need a pick on Saturday.
Oh Lordie, where is my mind? XD.
Well, you happen to be in luck Rootbeer. Since my friend and I don't have any panels we're interested in checking out before 12:15 (Hellsing Ultimate cast ftw) we'll have time to pick you up. I'll call him tommorow and talk it over with him.
If we do pick you up, you'll need a ride home if you aren't staying anywhere and you can't mind being slightly molested by a stick shift.
-
Don't worry about a ride home. I got that covered. :) Though it's a pity my ride home won't drive me to the con. >:(
-
Hey Rootbeer how come you dont bus it? just sayin :O
-
I'd avoid a bus from Glendale to Long Beach if I could too. I hate buses. But if it was the only way…
-
Yeah, if a car ride will take about a half hour without traffic a bus is gonna take like an hour or more with all the stops it'd have to make.
