I'm thinking about watching this anime
-
So, if I want to get most of this series, after reading the 2 volumes I gotta watch the anime and/or read what my Shonen Jumps have? The Dub seems like the best thing to see, but how edited is it compared to the original?
-
Well, I know there are some minor edits in the first few chapters. I don't think it's much though.
-
Do you mean episodes?
-
Whoops, yeah, I mean episodes.
-
Well the name changes are actually pretty good translations (read the 1st post of the thread)
And only some things were edited, like small amounts of blood, Service Man flashing people (even though you never actually see it), and the bumpers. That's pretty much it. The dub had the original Dialog, BGM, Episode Count, etc
(Besides the fact that they only showed the 1st original opening, and left out the 2nd, and all 3 endings)
-
The dub/anime ends on what chapter? One of my Shonen Jumps has a chapter with the same colorspread that was shown on the last episode. (saw it on tv, but wasn't really paying any mind)
If it does end on that chapter, then if I simply keep puchasing SJ I should be fine? (Unless they take it out.)
-
If you don't mind waiting a long, long time, then the very first chapter of "new material" post-anime is chp. 179. (the last episode ends with the heros and villains teaming up to fight against Hydrate and his floating fortress and this chapter is where they start fighting Crimson, the third of Hydrate's Heavenly Kings) As it stands, the last chapter in the US was chp. 120, so we still have several more Cyber City chapters, all of the Former Maruhage and the first part of the Reverse Maruhage before we reach that point.
-
Well I just know that anime ends right as Bobobo starts to fight these guys
!
(Litterally. Right when they charge in for the final battle everyone goes "WTF, our shows been cancelled?)But the manga continues far beyond that.
With
! Bobobo's sister Bibibi, who looks like Denbo. And his evil brother Bebebe.
! And Softon revealing that he's Beauty's brother, and stuffBut the only part of the manga I've read, past what ASJ released, is just the conclusion to the saga that the anime didn't finish though. But of course it was raw, so.. I tried my best.
-
@Lobster:
But the manga continues far beyond that.
With
! Bobobo's sister Bibibi, who looks like Denbo. And his evil brother Bebebe.
! You've got them mixed up:
-Be-bebe is sort of evil but was mostly just brainwashed by Hydrate
-Bu-bubu is the Denbo-lookalike
-Bi-bibi is the super-evil brother of all of them. -
Yet I hear the manga was canceled, too. That it now has a second one which kinda ties in to the last but doesn't really follow the same story. Which from what I know of Bobobo that's not big deal, like a big joke.

The original Bo-bobo story was complete, no questions. Shinsetsu, on the other hand, just screwed with everything mostly with some really neat ideas but ultimately lead to a lot of fanservice and rushing towards the end as the series lost popularity before it finally ended.
-
Is there a place that has all of bobobo scanlated?
Edit: even if it was only raws
-
I know i'm not suppose to double post but who is the characters name that comes out of gassers ear in chapter 171?
-
I believe I was just told that close to none of Bobobo is scanlated. Raws is a different story tho, probably.
-
thanks buuhan1 for answering that question…now if someone could answer me the 2nd question.
-
Yes, high quality raws are scanned as well.
I asked for them a good while ago on this very message board, and was directed to the megaupload links. However, I'm not sure if they were posted in this thread or the other one.
(there were two pretty huge Bobobo threads at the time)
-
oh? I must go and look for them than.
-
I suppose it's understandable why there's not really any scanlations available, with all the culture and puns and such it must be close to impossible to translate. Surprised Viz is releasing it.
-
I seriously want to know who that character was that came out of gassers ear in chapter 171
-
There are seriously no scanlations for this series?
Sheesh.
-
http://web.utk.edu/~jeppers1/bobobo.html
Well, that's two and a half volumes scanlated.
and lol and the translation choices they used..
Beauty, "WTF!?" -
The "new" place it links to is a 404 page. Guess he's done.

Yes and no. The original BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo wasn't cancelled, it was ended. Really, it was more or less complete except the author threw in a new plot point at the very end. Then the author started up a Part II ("Shinsetsu Bo-BoBo"), which brought back a lot of the older characters but also put in some new ones but most people felt it was of lower quality than the original and it was cancelled. Fortunately, they gave the author a limited amount of time to finish it, so it did reach an ending (albeit a rushed one). I wish the anime had gotten so lucky, they needed only about 10 more episodes to reach the end of the Shadow Chrome Dome Empire arc; while there was one more arc (Hair Kingdom) afterwards, I think they could've pulled off a reasonable ending if they stopped after Shadow Chrome Dome Empire.
Incidentally, on the topic of scanlations, Stoptazmo still has the first 20 Bo-BoBo scanlations up (they're of somewhat low quality in the translations be warned), but that's likely all we're going to get unless someone else tries to translate it.
Also, it's a bit late to reply to some of the older questions, but you can watch some of the Bo-BoBo episodes on toonami jetstream (a few of the things that were cut for time are restored, but for the most part it's the same as the edited television series). Unfortunately, they only have 6 up at a time, it's currently episodes 23 through 28, with them moving forward an episode each week (so next week it's 24 through 29, for example). All the episodes are on youtube also, if you want to see them.
What I find annoying is that a lot of people only watch the first 6 or so episodes and give up watching the series. Starting with episode 9 or 10, I believe, the series goes up significantly in quality.

Nice to have another Bo-bobo fan on board.
Somehow if they got one more season out of Toei for Bo-bobo (even if it was still going in Japan at the time), they could have easily done what was left of pt. 1. I've done the math and the remainder of the Reverse Maruhage and all of the Hair Kingdom could easily be done in 26 episodes. (Toei really wasn't that close to catching up either: the anime ended around the same time as the end of pt. 1) All I really want to know is why exactly Sawai thought he needed a pt. 2: there were some amazing aspects in Shinsetsu but all he needed was to not do one scene and it would have been complete. (even though the final Shinsetsu chapter is, in my mind, a more satisfying ending)
-
I really want to get raws of this series

I seriously want to know who that character was that came out of gassers ear in chapter 171
If I had to guess, I think it was Hanpen, the former leader of A-Block. He was defeated by a fusion of Bo-bobo and Jiggler/Tennosuke, but comes back later and joins Bo-bobo's team.
-
Oh come on, look at Gintama, onemanga have over 90 chapters for that, and it have many puns/whatnots then bobobo, how hard can it be?
-
Mission successful (so far): Bo-bobo 21 is translated. If anyone wants to scanslate, be my guest.
http://mangahelpers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31070
(want to get through this and the next chapter since we're approaching Tennosuke and A-Block arc)
-
I would but I need the fecking RAWS.
-
I would but I need the fecking RAWS.
Wish there was some way to get hands on them. (BTW: also did 22 and 23, they're also up on the same site…though 23 was tough with the crappy Japanese dictionary I brought to work today)
-
That sucks cause I'd seriously do it ( it be low quality mind you) but it would be better than nothing right?
-
I'd help out, but we need RAWs. I could make RAWs, but I'd need the volumes.
-
not having the raws is really iritating. I'm sure there out on the web somewhere but searching for them is a real bitch.
-
I have a bunch of Shinsetsu raws saved from when Manga Helpers was posting them (I've got the last third of the series [chapters 51 to 76, minus the chapter that Shinsetsu Bobopatchnosuke appears], plus a few random earlier chapters), and I also have a bunch of chapters saved from when they were posted earlier in this thread. Unfortunately, a lot of those chapters from the original series are Chinese scanlations by Jojohot, so their logo is pasted on all of the pages, and it's more difficult to find somebody who translates manga from Chinese than it is to find somebody who translates it from Japanese.
As well, if I were to upload some of these chapters, which site would work best?
-

Ok, I know this might be a really stupid question, but if you didn´t have raws, where the hell did you translate the chapter from? Chinese scans, the spanish manga…?

I have the entire series save the final two Shinsetsu volumes (which I hope to get next time I'm in NY). These three chapters I've done are from the original Japanese. (I was hoping to do a fourth yesterday but I have a hard time doing this at home…plus there was a sequence where Don Patch was speaking antiquated Japanese and I had to look up practically every word)
-
Ook, sorry if I sounded rude, I didn´t get it ^^U
Chapter 24… what happened in that episode to make Don Patch talk in ancient japanese? I don´t remember now...
-

Its basically nothing to do with the plot, but basically Don Patch discovers Bo-bobo selling balloons in A-Block Park, so he suddenly turns into a samurai (with a piece of sushi on his head for a topknot) and says he has pressing business…all while Bo-bobo ties the balloons on him and makes him fly off to get rid of him. (and this is before the main part of the chapter)
-
Oh, yes, I remember that XD
The spanish manga is right now in the fifth volume, right after Hatenkô´s appearance… Did they translate his name in the english dub? (He´s called "Unpredictable" here)

Anime just called him Hatenko. But the thing is that names are so transient in this country considering that the manga calls the second Hajike lead "Poppa Rocks", the anime calls him "Don Patch" and both are right. Most of the time a lot of the translated names in both the anime and manga were good…unless its something like "Nunchuck Ned" instead of "Nenchaku". (The "STOP Shinken" user in the Maruhage tourney)
-
I just have a question..
Why do dubs always translate the "4 Heavenly Kings" incorrectly? In Gash Bell they translated it to the "4 Supreme Momodo", and in Bobobo they translated it to "The Big 4".
I've never liked when they did that, as it takes all of the awe and prestige of out of the title.
-
Because the US never really got anything to relate "Heavenly Kings" to…that and they probably think they are gods or something.
Progress Report: three more chapters done...including the "Roller Coaster Turtle Rap" which I know there are probably both mistakes and untranslated nonsense on. (at least this means the shorter A-Block fights are done and Katsu is next...probably Heppokomaru's only "long" fight until Shinsetsu) Somehow looking at the earlier part of the series like this makes me realize how refreshing it was to go back and forth between storyline and pointless silliness...let alone have a much smaller cast to work with.
-
I need to buy the manga I suppose. I wish someone out there would be like "Hey everyone I got these bobobo raws and such, here have 'em =D!"
-
Update: Bo-bobo chp. 21 has finally been released both on Mangahelpers and OneManga! Sure there may be a page missing but go get it! Meanwhile, vol. 3 has been completely translated! One more chapter of Tennosuke to go before entering the transition to the next major arc.
